• WiX major upgrade! Need different behaviors for different components...

  Okay! I have finally more closely identified the problem I'm having. In my installer, I was attempting to get a settings file to REMAIN INTACT on a major upgrade. I finally got this to work with the suggestion to set <InstallExecuteSequence> <RemoveExistingProducts After="InstallFinalize" /> </InstallExecuteSequence> This is successful in forcing this component to leave the original, not replacing it if it exists: <Component Id="Settings" Guid="A3513208-4F12-4496-B609-197812B4A953" NeverOverwrite="yes"> <File Id="settingsXml" KeyPath="yes" ShortName="SETTINGS.XML" Name="Settings.xml" DiskId="1" Source="\\fileserver\Release\Pathways\Dependencies\Settings\settings.xml" Vital="yes" /> </Component> HOWEVER! This is a problem! I have another component listed here: <Component Id="Database" Guid="1D8756EF-FD6C-49BC-8400-299492E8C65D" KeyPath="yes"> <File Id="pathwaysMdf" Name="Pathways.mdf" DiskId="1" Source="\\fileserver\Shared\Databases\Pathways\SystemDBs\Pathways.mdf" Vital="yes"/> <File Id="pathwaysLdf" Name="Pathways_log.ldf" DiskId="1" Source="\\fileserver\Shared\Databases\Pathways\SystemDBs\Pathways.ldf" Vital="yes"/> </Component> And this component MUST BE REPLACED on a major upgrade. • Best way to implement game loop without freezing UI thread

  I'm trying to make a simple 2D game in Java. So far I have a JFrame, with a menubar, and a class which extends JPanel and overrides it's paint method. Now, I need to get a game loop going, where I will update the position of images and so on. However, I'm stuck at how best to achieve this. Should I use multi-threading, because surely, if you put an infinite loop on the main thread, the UI (and thus my menu bar) will freeze up?   In normal (not compiled) Linq to Sql queries you can extract the SQLCommand from the IQueryable via the following code: SqlCommand cmd = (SqlCommand)table.Context.GetCommand(query); Is it possible to do the same for a compiled query? The following code provides me with a delegate to a compiled query: private static readonly Func<Data.DAL.Context, string, IQueryable<Word>> Query_Get = CompiledQuery.Compile<Data.DAL.Context, string, IQueryable<Word>>( (context, name) => from r in context.GetTable<Word>() where r.Name == name select r); When i use this to generate the IQueryable and attempt to extract the SqlCommand it doesn't seem to work. When debugging the code I can see that the SqlCommand returned has the 'very' useful CommandText of 'SELECT NULL AS [EMPTY]' using (var db = new Data.DAL.Context()) { IQueryable<Word> query = Query_Get(db, "word"); SqlCommand cmd = (SqlCommand)db.GetCommand(query); Console.WriteLine(cmd != null ? cmd.CommandText : "Command Not Found"); } I can't find anything in google about this particular scenario, as no doubt it is not a common thing to attempt... So.... Any thoughts?

And the Button sets them to "AAA". But now I replaced the Setter function with the one that is commented out (simulating some manipulation of the given value). I would expect that whenever the property value is changed it will be reset to "BBB". It does so when you press the button, that is when you set the property in code. But it does for some reason not affect the WPF Bindings, that is you can change the TextBox contents and thus the property, but apparently the Setter is never called. I wonder why that is so, and how one would go about to achive the expected behaviour.

• setting write permissions on theme subdirectory?

  I've a theme which supports multiple templates, each with a header background image whose color can be set by the site owner via a colorpicker widget in my theme's options panel. This has the effect of opening the background image, recoloring it and resaving it back to the server. I've had zero issues with this routine until recently when a customer installed the theme on a web host whose default read/write permissions are apparently much more restrictive than the norm. In this case, the user was unable to alter the colors of the template images because of the permissions settings. I'm looking for a bit of understanding on what the permissions would need to be (assuming I purposefully set them via script) to allow the logged in wordpress user to write to files under my theme's styles directory. • hibernate insert to a collection causes a delete then all the items in the collection to be inserted

  I have a many to may relationship CohortGroup and Employee. Any time I insert an Employee into the CohortGroup hibernate deletes the group from the resolution table and inserts all the members again, plus the new one. Why not just add the new one? • How to filter node list based on the contents of another node list

  Hi, I'd like to use XSLT to filter a node list based on the contents of another node list. Specifically, I'd like to filter a node list such that elements with identical id attributes are eliminated from the resulting node list. Priority should be given to one of the two node lists. The way I originally imagined implementing this was to do something like this: <xsl:variable name="filteredList1" select="$list1[not($list2[@id_from_list1 = @id_from_list2])]"/> The problem is that the context node changes in the predicate for $list2, so I don't have access to attribute @id_from_list1. Due to these scoping constraints, it's not clear to me how I would be able to refer to an attribute from the outer node list using nested predicates in this fashion. To get around the issue of the context node, I've tried to create a solution involving a for-each loop, like the following: <xsl:variable name="filteredList1"> <xsl:for-each select="$list1"> <xsl:variable name="id_from_list1" select="@id_from_list1"/> <xsl:if test="not($list2[@id_from_list2 = $id_from_list1])"> <xsl:copy-of select="."/> </xsl:if> </xsl:for-each> </xsl:variable> But this doesn't work correctly. It's also not clear to me how it fails... Using the above technique, filteredList1 has a length of 1, but appears to be empty. It's strange behaviour, and anyhow, I feel there must be a more elegant approach. I'd appreciate any guidance anyone can offer. Thanks.

  Hello, I'm having some troubles with updating linq to sql entities. For some reason, I can update every single field of my item entity besides name.   Hello, I'd like to create WCF operation contract which consumes a string, produces a public webpage and then returns the address of this new page. [ServiceContract(Namespace = "")] public class DatabaseService { [OperationContract] public string BuildPage(string fileName, string html) { //writes html to file //returns public file url } } This doesn't seem like it should be complicated but i cant figure out how to do it. So far what i've tried is this: [OperationContract] public string PrintToFile(string name, string text) { FileInfo f = new FileInfo(name); StreamWriter w = f.AppendText(); w.Write(text); w.Close(); return f.Directory.ToString(); } Here's the problem. This does not create a file in the web root, it creates it in the directory where the webdav server is running. When i run this on an IIS server it seems to do nothing at all (at least not that i can tell). How can I get a handle to the webroot programmatically so that i can place the resultant file there and then return the public URL? I can tack on the domain name after the fact without issue so if it only returns the relative path to the file that's fine. Thanks, brian

• How to Implement an Interface that Requires Duplicate Member Names?

  I often have to implement some interfaces such as IEnumerable<T> in my code. Each time, when implementing automatically, I encounter the following: public IEnumerator<T> GetEnumerator() { // Code here... } public IEnumerator GetEnumerator1() { // Code here... } Though I have to implement both GetEnumerator() methods, they impossibly can have the same name, even if we understand that they do the same, somehow. The compiler can't treat them as one being the overload of the other, because only the return type differs. When doing so, I manage to set the GetEnumerator1() accessor to private. This way, the compiler doesn't complaint about not implementing the interface member, and I simply throw a NotImplementedException within the method's body. However, I wonder whether it is a good practice, or if I shall proceed differently, as perhaps a method alias or something like so. What is the best approach while implementing an interface such as IEnumerable<T> that requires the implementation of two different methods with the same name? EDIT #1 Does VB.NET reacts differently from C# while implementing interfaces, since in VB.NET it is explicitly implemented, thus forcing the GetEnumerator1(). Here's the code: Public Function GetEnumerator() As System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerator(Of T) Implements System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable(Of T).GetEnumerator // Code here...   I have two tables, Users, and Address. A the user table has a field that maps to the primary key of the address table. This field can be null. In plain english, Address exist independent of other objects. A user may be associated with one address. In the database, I have this set up as a foreign key relationship. I am attempting to map this relationship in the Entity Framework. The hyperlink above is php generated, meant to trigger the above JavaScript function, and swap the url from attributes contained in ids "movie_url" and "embed_url". Works just like it should in FF, but IE will only perform the .css commands. My guess? IE doesn't like me assigning IDs to PARAM and EMBED, perhaps? What do you think?

• Setting up magic routes for plugins in CakePHP 1.3?

  I'm working on upgrading my project from CakePHP 1.2 to 1.3. In the process, it seems that the "magic" routing for plugins by which a controller name (e.g.: "ForumsController") matching the plugin name (e.g.: "forums") no longer automatically routes to the root of the plugin URL (e.g.: "www.example.com/forums" pointing to plugin "forums", controller "forums", action "index"). The error message given is as follows: Error: ForumsController could not be found. Error: Create the class ForumsController below in file: app/controllers/forums_controller.php <?php class ForumsController extends AppController { var $name = 'Forums'; } ?> In fact, even if I navigate to "www.example.com/forums/forums" or "www.example.com/forums/forums/index", I get the same exact error. Do I need to explicitly set up routes to every single plugin I use? This seems to destroy a lot of the magic I like about CakePHP. I've only found that doing the following works: Router::connect('/forums/:action/*', array('plugin' => 'forums', 'controller' => 'forums')); Router::connect('/forums', array('plugin' => 'forums', 'controller' => 'forums', 'action' => 'index')); Setting up 2 routes for every single plugin seems like overkill, does it not? Is there a better solution that will cover all my plugins, or at least reduce the number of routes I need to set up for each plugin?

• Android: Adding data to Intent fails to load Activity

  I have a widget that supposed to call an Activity of the main app when the user clicks on widget body. My setup works for a single widget instance but for a second instance of the same widget the PendingIntent gets reused and as result the vital information that I'm sending as extra gets overwritten for the 1st instance. So I figured that I should pass widget ID as Intent data however as soon as I add Intent#setData I would see in the log that 2 separate Intents are appropriately fired but the Activity fails to pick it up so basically Activity will not come up and nothing happens (no error or warning ether) Here's how the activity is setup in the Manifest: <activity android:name=".SearchResultsView" android:label="@string/search_results" <intent-filter> <action android:name="bostone.android.search.RESULTS" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" /> </intent-filter> </activity> And here's code that is setup for handling the click Intent di = new Intent("bostone.android.search.RESULTS"); di.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); // if line below is commented out - the Activity will start di.setData(ContentUris.withAppendedId(Uri.EMPTY, widgetId)); di.putExtra("URL", url); views.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.widgetContent, PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, di, 0)); The main app and the widget are packaged as 2 separate APK each in its own package and Manifest

• JAXB code generation: how to remove a zero occurrence field?

  Hi all, I use JAXB 2.1 to generate Java classes from several XSD files, and I have a problem related to complex type restriction. On of the restrictions modifies the occurence configuration from minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded" to minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="0". Thus this field is not needed anymore in the restricted type. But actually JAXB generates the restricted class with a [0..1] cardinality instead of 0. By the way the generation is tuned with <xjc:treatRestrictionLikeNewType / so that a XSD restriction is not mapped to a Java class inheritance. Here is an example: Here is the way a field is defined in a complex type A: <element name="qualifier" type="CR" maxOccurs="unbounded" minOccurs="0"/ Here is the way the same field is restricted in another complex type B that restricts A: <element name="qualifier" type="CR" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="0"/ In the A generated class I have: @XmlElement(name = "qualifier") protected List<CR qualifiers; And in the B generated class I have: protected CR qualifiers; With my poor understanding of JAXB the absence of the XmlElement annotation tells JAXB not to marshall/unmarshall this field. Am I wrong? If I am right is there a way to tell JAXB not to generate the qualifiers field at all? This would be in my opinion a much better generation as it respects the constraints. Any idea, thougths on the topic? Thanks!!
