• PEAR:DB connection parameters

  I just finished my first PHP site and now I have a security-related question. I used PEAR:DB for the database connection and made a separate parameter file for it. How should I hide this parameter file? I found a guide (http://www.kitebird.com/articles/peardb.html) that says: Another way to specify connection parameters is to put them in a separate file that you reference from your main script. ... It also enables you to move the parameter file outside of the web server's document tree, which prevents its contents from being displayed literally if the server becomes misconfigured and starts serving PHP scripts as plain text. I have now put my file in a directory like this /include/db_parameters.inc However, if I go to this URL, the web server shows me the contents of the file including my database username and password. From what I've understood, I should protect this file so, that even though PHP would be served as text, nobody could read this. What does outside of web server's document tree mean here? Put the PHP file out of public_html directory altogether deeper into the server file system? Some CHMOD?

• Problems with video conversions through the web (local host)

  Hello, I get the following errors when I attempt video format conversions called from the local host: “An invalid media type was specified” for M4V to WMV conversions. “One or more arguments are invalid” for MP4 to WMV conversions. Here are the details of the problems: I’ve written a dll in C# that accepts videos in the formats AVI, WMV, M4V and MP4 and performs the following actions: Creates a copy of the input video in WMV format . Creates a WAV file of the input video audio portion. Creates a JPG image from a frame of the input video. I attached the dll to an ASP.NET web project that performs the dll actions. When tested through the developer studio, the actions are performed as intended for all formats. When I place the web project in place to be read when the local host is called through the web browser, the following behavior takes place: WMV format: All actions performed as intended. AVI format: Creates WMV file – OK Creates JPG image – OK Creates empty WAV file – problem. M4V format: Creates empty WAV file – problem. Does not create WMV file -problem Does not create JPG file –problem Throws me the error “An invalid media type was specified” MP4 format: Creates empty WAV file – problem. Does not create WMV file -problem Does not create JPG file –problem Throws me the error “One or more arguments are invalid” When I check their security property, all the files have the same permission access parameters (when I check their security property. Can anyone guide me as to how to solve these problems when the web project is called from the local host? Thank you.

  Scenario I want to parse a large CSV file and inserts data into the database, csv file has approximately 100K rows of data. Currently I am using fgetcsv to parse through the file row by row and insert data into Database and so right now I am hitting database for each line of data present in csv file so currently database hit count is 100K which is not good from performance point of view.   When I get a runtime exception from the standard library, it's almost always a problem in my code and not in the library code. Is there a way to truncate the exception stack trace so that it doesn't show the guts of the library package? • Git add not working with .png files?

  I have a dirty working tree, dirty because I made changes to source files and touched up some images. I was trying to add just the images to the index, so I ran this command: git add *.png But, this doesn't add the files. There were a few new image files that were added, but none of the ones that were modified/pre-existing were added. What gives?   In my appliation,I am opening an excel sheet to show one of my Excel documents to the user.But before showing the excel I am saving it to a folder in my local machine which in fact will be used for showwing. • Committing to a different branch with commit -r

  Does CVS allow committing a file to a different branch than the one it was checked out from? The man page and some sites suggest that we can do a cvs ci -r branch-1 file.c but it gives the following error: cvs commit: Up-to-date check failed for `file.c' cvs [commit aborted]: correct above errors first! I did a cvs diff -r branch-1 file.c to make sure that contents of file.c in my BASE and branch-1 are indeed the same. I know that we can manually check out using cvs co -r branch-1, merge the main branch to it (and fix any merge issues) and then do a check in. The problem is that there are a number of branches and I would like to automate things using a script. This thread seems to suggest that -r has been removed. Can someone confirm that? If ci -r is not supported, I am thinking of doing something like: Make sure the branch versions and base version are the same with a cvs diff Check in to the current branch Keep a copy of the file in a temp file For each branch: Check out from branch with -r replace the file with the temp file Check in (it'll go the branch as -r is sticky) Delete the temp file The replacing part sounds like cheating to me - can you think of any potential issues that might occur? Anything I should be careful about? Is there any other way to automate this process?

  hi, I am so worry :( I dropped one of the tables from the database accidentally. fortunately, I have back-up. (I have used the "Auto backup for mysql") The back-up of the table is stored as .txt file (56 Megabytes) on my PC. I tried to import it by PhpMyAdmin and the import failed because the file is too large to import. then I uploaded the file to /home/tablebk directory. I have some experiences in php.   I'm using a Webkit browser inspector like this. When I run it in Ubuntu 12.10, I'm getting errors when using the inspector. I would like to debug this issue, but since the inspector object isn't a webview object, I'm not sure I can add an inspector to the inspector? (like how you can use F12 when inspector is its own window in Chrome/Chromium, which lets you debug that inspector). It should be possible, but maybe not with pyGTK?

  I'm working on a bit of a project in python. I have a client and a server. The server listens for connections and once a connection is received it waits for input from the client. The idea is that the client can connect to the server and execute system commands such as ls and cat. • Using Visual Studio to make non aspx code-behind pages

  I want to build my own "code behind" like pages so that i can have HTML in a HTML file and code in cs file but be able to have Intellesense for the tokens in the HTML file. (i know that's what the .NET page class does, but i want to have something much lighter) EG: in the .html file: <%@ Directive classname="HTMLSnippet" %> <html> <body> <div>[%message%] </body> </html> and in a .cs file public class MyClass : HTMLSnippet { public class MyClass () { snippet.message = "message goes here" } } So my question is how do make the HTMLSnippet class so that it's members are automatically created, and specifically show up in Intellesense as i add tokens to the .html file? I know that .net currently does it by creating the designer.cs file and basically builds a class with all the elements from the page as it goes, and that would work fine but how can i get visual studio to generate that before compiling so that it shows up in Intellesense. Thanks! Clarification I'm not using this as a handler yet, i want to use this to have HTML snippets with tokens be usable in code as an object with properties. so almost like a custom control. I think what i have to do is create a VS add-in that waits for me to type tokens into an .html file then it automatically creates a .cs file with members for each token.

  Hi guys, I have made a build file for the automated compilation of Oracle Forms files. The failonerror attribute is set to false so that the build file does not exit if a compilation error occurs. Unfortunately, however, though this prevents the build file from exiting when a compilation error occurs, it also appears to make the build file exit the task. This is a problem because, unless the form that does not compile successfully is the last to be tested (based on the filename of the form in alphanumerical decsending order), there will be one or more forms that the build file does not attempt to compile. So, for example, if the folder containing the forms that are desired to be compiled contains 10 forms and the first form does not compile successfully, the build file will not attempt to compile the remaining 9 forms (ie exit the task). Is there a way to make the build file attempt to compile remaining forms after encountering after failing to compile a form? Thanks in advance!

• Configuring Novel iPrint client on ubuntu 13.10

  Recently I have struggled a lot to make Novel iPrint client to work on my laptop. I need it to use Follow Me printers in our university(you can take your print form any printer). Using this tutorial from Novel, I tried to convert the rpm package and install it on Ubuntu 13.04 & 13.10. The post install script from installing generated deb package had a typo which I saw in post install messages and I fixed that. Now I have the client running. To see the client UI I installed cinnamon desktop(because unity does not have system tray and old solutions did'nt work to whitelist Novel clinet). I have iPrint plugin installed on firefox as well(I copied the shared object files to plugin directories). I try installing printers from provided ipp URL(which lists available printers on the server) with no success. After clicking the printer name I see this: I have various errors: Formerly firefox used to asked my network username/password for installing SSL printer but now it returns this: iPrint Printer - The printer is currently not available. However I can install non-SSL version but the printer location is either empty or points to: file:///dev/null even if I change it to the exact address which I see on working machines still it prints nothing. I have tried the novel command line tool, iprntcmd to print. It is being installed at: /opt/novell/iprint/bin/ msadeghi@werkstatt:/opt/novell/iprint/bin$ ./iprntcmd --addprinter ipp://iprint.rz.hs-offenburg.de/ipp/Follow-me\ -\ IPP iprntcmd v05.04.00 Adding printer ipp://iprint.rz.hs-offenburg.de/ipp/Follow-me - IPP. Added printer ipp://iprint.rz.hs-offenburg.de/ipp/Follow-me - IPP successfully. It adds the printer with empty location and again no print. What I found interesting is the log file at ~/.iprint/errors.txt with strange errors which I hope somebody here can understand. PS. I had the same problemwith 13.04. No matter if I am within the network or I connect with VPN, I have the same issues.

• Another "Windows 7 entry missing from Grub2" Question

  Like many before me had the following problem that after installing Ubuntu (with windows 7 already installed), the grub boot loader wouldnt show windows 7 as a boot option, though i can boot fine if I use the "Choose Boot Device" options on the x220. The difference is that I try using UEFI only so many answers didn't really fit my problem, though i tried several stuffs: after running boot repair it destroyed the ubuntu boot loader custom entry in /etc/grub.d/40_custom for windows which doesnt show up many update-grub and reboots trying windows repair recovery thing while being there i also did bootrec.exe /FixBoot and update-grub and reboot again and finaly because it was so much fun, i installed linux all over again, while formatting and deleting everything linux related before that. Now that i think of it, Ubuntu also didn't notice Windows being there during the Setup and it still doesnt according to the Boot Info from Boot Repair. I'm very new to this UEFI thing too. missing files like bootmgr i don't really have a clue :D but yea, maybe thats how it suppose to be? • How to Troubleshoot TFS Build Server Failure?

  Ever found your self in this helpless situation where you think you have tried every possible suggestion on the internet to bring the build server back but it just won’t work. Well some times before hunting around for a solution it is important to understand what the problem is, if the error messages in the build logs don’t seem to help you can always enable tracing on the build server to get more information on what could possibly be the root cause of failure. In this blog post today I’ll be showing you how to enable tracing on, - TFS 2010/11 Server - Build Server - Client Enable Tracing on Team Foundation Server 2010/2011 On the Team Foundation Server navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2010\Application Tier\Web Services, right click web.config and from the context menu select edit.          Search for the <appSettings> node in the config file and set the value of the key ‘traceWriter’ to true.          In the <System.diagnostics> tag set the value of switches from 0 to 4 to set the trace level to maximum to write diagnostics level trace information.          Restart the TFS Application pool to force this change to take effect. The application pool restart will impact any one using the TFS server at present. Note - It is recommended that you do not make any changes to the TFS production application server, this can have serious consequences and can even jeopardize the installation of your server.          Download the Debug view tool from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896647.aspx and set it to capture “Global Events”. Perform any actions in the Team Explorer on the client machine, you should be able to see a series of trace data in the debug view tool now.         Enable Tracing on Build Controller/Agents Log on to the Build Controller/Agent and Navigate to the directory C:\Program Files\Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2010\Tools         Look for the configuration file ‘TFSBuildServiceHost.exe.config’ if it is not already there create a new text file and rename it to ‘TFSBuildServiceHost.exe.config’         To Enable tracing uncomment the <system.diagnostics> and paste the snippet below if it is not already there. <configuration> <system.diagnostics> <switches> <add name="BuildServiceTraceLevel" value="4"/> </switches> <trace autoflush="true" indentsize="4"> <listeners> <add name="myListener" type="Microsoft.TeamFoundation.TeamFoundationTextWriterTraceListener, Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Common, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" initializeData="c:\logs\TFSBuildServiceHost.exe.log" /> <remove name="Default" /> </listeners> </trace> </system.diagnostics> </configuration> The highlighted path above is where the Log file will be created. If the folder is not already there then create the folder, also, make sure that the account running the build service has access to write to this folder.         Restart the build Controller/Agent service from the administration console (or net stop tfsbuildservicehost & net start tfsbuildservicehost) in order for the new setting to be picked up.         Enable TFS Tracing on the Client Machine On the client machine, shut down Visual Studio, navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common 7\IDE          Search for devenv.exe.config, make a backup copy of the config file and right click the file and from the context menu select edit. If its not already there create this file.          Edit devenv.exe.config by adding the below code snippet before the last </configuration> tag <system.diagnostics> <switches> <add name="TeamFoundationSoapProxy" value="4" /> <add name="VersionControl" value="4" /> </switches> <trace autoflush="true" indentsize="3"> <listeners> <add name="myListener" type="Microsoft.TeamFoundation.TeamFoundationTextWriterTraceListener,Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Common, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" initializeData="c:\tf.log" /> <add name="perfListener" type="Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Client.PerfTraceListener, Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Client, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"/> </listeners> </trace> </system.diagnostics> The highlighted path above is where the Log file will be created. If the folder is not already there then create the folder. Start Visual Studio and after a bit of activity you should be able to see the new log file being created on the folder specified in the config file.
