• C# How to find if an event is hooked up

  I want to be able to find out if an event is hooked up or not. I've looked around, but I've only found solutions that involved modifying the internals of the object that contains the event. I don't want to do this. Here is some test code that I thought would work: // Create a new event handler that takes in the function I want to execute when the event fires EventHandler myEventHandler = new EventHandler(myObject_SomeEvent); // Get "p1" number events that got hooked up to myEventHandler int p1 = myEventHandler.GetInvocationList().Length; // Now actually hook an event up myObject.SomeEvent += m_myEventHandler; // Re check "p2" number of events hooked up to myEventHandler int p2 = myEventHandler.GetInvocationList().Length; Unfort the above is dead wrong. I thought that somehow the "invocationList" in myEventHandler would automatically get updated when I hooked an event to it. But no, this is not the case. The length of this always comes back as one. Is there anyway to determine this from outside the object that contains the event?

• simpletest - Why does setReturnValue() seem to change behaviour depending on if test is run in isola

  I am using SimpleTest version 1.0.1 for a unit test. I create a new mock object within a test method and on it i do: $MockDbAdaptor->setReturnValue('query',1); Now, when i run this in a standalone unit test my tested object is happy to see 1 returned when query() is called on the mock db adaptor. However, when this exact same test is run as part of my 'all_tests' TestSuite, the test is failing. This happens because a call to the mock's query() method does not appear to return any value - thus causing my test subject to complain and trigger an unexpected exception that fails the test. So, the behaviour of setReturnValue() seems to change depending on whether the test is run in isolation or not. I can get it to work in both a standalone and TestSuite contexts by using this instead: $MockDbAdaptor->setReturnValueAt(0,'query',1); So my immediate problem can be fixed ...but it feels like a hack. I thought if i create a new mock within a test method then why is the setReturnValue() behaviour getting affected by the context in which the test class instance is run? It feel like a bug.

• ASP.NET/C# - Deserialize XML, XSD.exe created multiple classes

  I'm trying to deserialize some XML (returned from a web service) into an object that I created using XSD.exe. The XSD executable created a .CS file with a different partial class for each parent node in the XML. For Example, the beginning of the XML looks like this (why can't I post xml here? sorry, this is ugly): <disclaimer><notificationDescription>Additional charges will apply.</notificationDescription></disclaimer><quote><masterQuote></masterQuote></quote> And the Class generated by the XSD.exe has a partial class named disclaimer with a get; set; string for notificationDescription. And another partial class for quoteMasterQuote with the corresponding child nodes as public strings. How can I deserialize this XML file into multiple classes? • Dynamically loading sub-trees into YUI Treeview

  When you create a YUI TreeView instance, you can pass in an object that represents an entire tree, and it will automatically build up the TextNodes for you. I'd like to send in a partial tree, such that the tree only goes, say, 2 levels deep, and anything deeper than that will invoke dynamic loading. I've got that much working. Now for the interesting part. In the dynamic loading callback I give to my tree instance, I want to again be able to just give YUI a big object representing more of the tree. • How to provide stl like container with public const iterator and private non-const iterator?

  Hello, I am deriving a class privately from std::list and wish to provide public begin() and end() for const_iterator and private begin() and end() for just plain iterator. However, the compiler is seeing the private version and complaining that it is private instead of using the public const version. I understand that C++ will not overload on return type (in this case const_iterator and iterator) and thus it is choosing the non-const version since my object is not const. Short of casting my object to const before calling begin() or not overloading the name begin is there a way to accomplish this? • Gridview empty when SelectedIndexChanged called

  I have a DataGrid which is being bound dynamically to a database query. The user enters some search text into a text field, clicks search, and the code behind creates the appropriate database query using LINQ (searches a table based on the string and returns a limited set of the columns). It then sets the GridView datasource to be the query and calls DataBind(). protected void btnSearch_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { var query = from record in DB.Table where record.Name.Contains(txtSearch.Text) //Extra string checking etc. removed. select new { record.ID, record.Name, record.Date }; gvResults.DataSource = query; gvResults.DataBind(); } This works fine. When a user selects a row in the grid, the SelectedIndexChanged event handler gets the id from the row in the grid (one of the fields), queries the full record from the DB and then populates a set of editor / details fields with the records full details. protected void gvResults_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { int id = int.Parse(gvResults.SelectedRow.Cells[1].Text); DisplayDetails(id); } This works fine on my local machine where I'm developing the code. On the production server however, the function is called successfully, but the row and column count on gvResults, the GridVeiw is 0 - the table is empty. The GridView's viewstate is enabled and I can't see obvious differences. Have I made some naive assumptions, or am I relying on something that is likely to be configured differently in debug? Locally I am running an empty asp.net web project in VS2008 to make development quicker. The production server is running the sitecore CMS so is configured rather differently. Any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks in advance!

A user able to select or remove (by selecting check box) product’s from the view, finally save as a collection when user submit these changes. With this 3 layer design how this product collection will be saved? How the filtering of products (removal and addition) to the category object? Here are my options. • jquery use return data from 2 functions in another function ---always get undefined. why ??

  Function socialbookmarksTableData(data) is called by another function to generate the content of a table -- data is a JSON object. Inside the function i call 2 other functions that use getJSON and POST (with json as a return object) to get some data. Since my class decorator creates another subclass a decorated class seems to prevent the use of super() when it changes the className passed to super(className, self).   Am I understanding it wrong, or is the description wrong? Equals checks for noncompatible operand (EQ_CHECK_FOR_OPERAND_NOT_COMPATIBLE_WITH_THIS) This equals method is checking to see if the argument is some incompatible type (i.e., a class that is neither a supertype nor subtype of the class that defines the equals method). For example, the Foo class might have an equals method that looks like: public boolean equals(Object o) { if (o instanceof Foo) return name.equals(((Foo)o).name); else if (o instanceof String) return name.equals(o); else return false; This is considered bad practice, as it makes it very hard to implement an equals method that is symmetric and transitive. Without those properties, very unexpected behavoirs are possible. • Error when instantiating .NET/COM interop class via classic ASP

  Hi all, I am having a problem when trying to instantiate a C# .NET class that's been exposed to COM in a classic ASP application. I've used tlbexp to generate a typelib and registered it in Component Services; now when trying to create the object as such: Server.CreateObject("The.Class.Name") I am getting the error: Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 80131534' Server.CreateObject Failed I've searched around online for information on this error, and found numerous discussions but no solution. The error code 0x80131534 apparently means "COR_E_TYPEINITIALIZATION, a type failed to initialize", which would suggest the problem would be in the constructor. The constructor of the class in question sets a private field to an instance of another class from the same assembly, and then reads some configuration settings from an XML file. This behaviour is unit tested and I've checked that the file exists; I can't see anything else that could be breaking in there. A few other points which may or may not be of use: A test .NET project referencing the DLL can instantiate the class just fine; however a test VB6 project referencing the TLB blows up with the same error. Both the DLL and the TLB are in the same location. This application is running locally, on Windows XP Professional SP3 and IIS 5.1. The .NET assembly is built with .NET Framework 2.0, although 3.5 is installed on the machine. I know other people who don't get this error on their builds, so I believe it may be something environmental. Any suggestions are welcome as I've been struggling to fix this for some time. • Servlet receives null from Remote EJB3 Session Bean

  I'm sure this is a beginner error... So I have a JEE6 application with entities, facades (implementing the persistence layer) and Stateless Session Beans (EJB3) with Remote interfaces (providing access to the entities via facades). This is working fine. Via the SLSB I can retrieve and manipulate entities. Now, I'm trying to do this from a Web Application (deployed on the same Glassfish, entity+interface definitions from JEE app imported as separate jar). I have a Servlet, that receives an instance of the SLSB injected. I get it to retrieve an entity, and the following happens (I can see it in the logs): the remote SLSB gets instantiated, its method called SLSB instantiates the facade, calls the 'get' method facade retrieves object from DB, returns it SLSB returns the object to the caller (all is good until here) calling servlet receives .. null !! What is going wrong? This should work, right?   Hi there. I'm recieving that wonderfuly ambiguous error message when using one of my webmethods on my WCF webservice. As that error message doesn't provide any explanation whatsoever allow me to post my theory. I believe it may have something to do with the return type I'm using I have a Types DLL which is refrenced in both the webservice and the client. In this DLL is the base class ExceptionMessages. There is a child of this class called DrawingExcepions. My only idea is that it's the child that's causing the error but as far as I've read, this should have no effect. Has anyone got any ideas what could be going wrong here? Although, I'm still interested in ideas on how I could have figured this out without finding the bug in Oracle's bug database.

  I'm trying to determine the current working directory of a process given its PID. The command-line utility lsof does something similar.
