• EXC_BAD_ACCESS from AudioBuffer

- by jfalexvijay
I am trying to do the record using AudioUnit for iPhone app. Changes: (start) I have added the following code bufferList = (AudioBufferList *)malloc(sizeof(AudioBuffer)); bufferList-mNumberBuffers = 1; bufferList-mBuffers[0].mNumberChannels = 2; bufferList-mBuffers[0].mDataByteSize = 1024; bufferList-mBuffers[0].mData = calloc(256, sizeof(uint32_t)); Changes: (end) static OSStatus recordingCallback(void *inRefCon, AudioUnitRenderActionFlags *ioActionFlags, const AudioTimeStamp *inTimeStamp, UInt32 inBusNumber, UInt32 inNumberFrames, AudioBufferList *ioData) { OSStatus status; status = AudioUnitRender(appdelegate-audioUnit, ioActionFlags, inTimeStamp, inBusNumber, inNumberFrames, appdelegate-bufferList); if(status != 0) NSLog(@"AudioUnitRender status is %d", status); SInt16* samples = (SInt16*)(ioData-mBuffers[0].mData); ..... } fixed: (I am getting OSStatus -50 error code)- Because I didn't initialize the bufferList. I am EXC_BAD_ACCESS from AudioBuffer (ioData-mBuffers[0].mData). I am not sure with this error. Please help me to resolve it.

• ajax request via jquery for a url that redirects

- by user177883
I m trying to access a data after invoking a URL which redirects the output to another page with query strings. ie: $.ajax({ url: 'http://foo.com/results/bar.aspx?fooid = 123&more=1', success: function(data) { alert('Load was performed.'+data); } }); Reponse results empty. This URL is a redirect to another page with query string, I already have a page that parses the query string and write the output to a page. But response is blank. How can i get this data?

• Export XML with only one MySQL request ?

- by mere-teresa
I want to export in XML format some data from 7 tables (MySQL database), and then I want to import in another database. And I have a update or insert rule for data. I already have a SQL query retrieving all data, with JOINs on my 7 tables. But...when I try to put data in XML format, I reach a limit. My PHP loop can catch each row, but I would like to benefit from hierachical structure of the XML, and all I have are rows with the same data repeated. It is better to query once and to construct the XML tree in PHP or to query each time I want access to a lower level ?

• iPad search bar bad memory access?

- by Geoff Baum
Hello all, So I am trying to implement a search bar in my app and am very close but can't seem to figure out where this memory error is occurring. This is what part of my search method looks like: filters = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; NSString *searchText = detailSearch.text; NSMutableArray *searchArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; // Normally holds the object (ex: 70 locations) searchArray = self.copyOfFilters ; //This is the line that is breaking after ~2-3 letters are entered in the search for (NSString *sTemp in searchArray) { NSRange titleResultsRange = [sTemp rangeOfString:searchText options:NSCaseInsensitiveSearch]; if (titleResultsRange.length > 0) [filters addObject:sTemp]; } displayedFilters = filters; copyOfFilters is a deep copy of the displayed filters that appear when the view first loads via: self.copyOfFilters = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithArray:displayedFilters copyItems:YES]; I have traced through the entry of letters and it is accurate after 2 letters, but once you try and enter a letter after a space in the search bar, it crashes. The value of copyOfFilters = {(int)[$VAR count]} objects. Does anyone know what may be causing this? Thanks!

• Is catching NumberFormatException a bad practice?

- by integeruser
I have to parse a String that can assume hex values or other non-hex values 0xff, 0x31 or A, PC, label, and so on. I use this code to divide the two cases: String input = readInput(); try { int hex = Integer.decode(input); // use hex ... } catch (NumberFormatException e) { // input is not a hex, continue parsing } Can this code be considered "ugly" or difficult to read? Are there other (maybe more elegant) solutions? EDIT : I want to clarify that (in my case) a wrong input doesn't exist: i just need to distinguish if it is a hex number, or not. And just for completeness, i'm making a simple assebler for DCPU-16.

• Make sure bad patterns don't come back after refactoring

- by Let_Me_Be
I'm refactoring an old C code. The code has absolutely no layered architecture (everything is being accessed by everything) and I'm trying to change that. I would like to cut direct access to structure members (at least write for now) and only allow access through access functions. Is there some tool (or perhaps directly the compiler) that could check this rule for me? I need this since I'm maintaining a fork and the upstream isn't very concerned with code quality.

• Is inheritance bad nowadays?

- by mafutrct
Personally, I think inheritance is a great tool, that, when applied reasonably, can greatly simplify code. However, I seems to me that many modern tools dislike inheritance. Let's take a simple example: Serialize a class to XML. As soon as inheritance is involved, this can easily turn into a mess. Especially if you're trying to serialize a derived class using the base class serializer. Sure, we can work around that. Something like a KnownType attribute and stuff. Besides being an itch in your code that you have to remember to update every time you add a derived class, that fails, too, if you receive a class from outside your scope that was not known at compile time. (Okay, in some cases you can still work around that, for instance using the NetDataContract serializer in .NET. Surely a certain advancement.) In any case, the basic principle still exists: Serialization and inheritance don't mix well. Considering the huge list of programming strategies that became possible and even common in the past decade, I feel tempted to say that inheritance should be avoided in areas that relate to serialization (in particular remoting and databases). Does that make sense? Or am messing things up? How do you handle inheritance and serialization?

• a potentially dangerous request.form value was detected but validateinput(false) not working

- by tonybolding
I have installed VS2010 and MVC2 and testing a simple form using tinyMCE. When I post the contents of the textarea in tinyMCE I get the dreaded YSD and the message "a potentially dangerous....." No problem I thought - seen this before so I put the ValidateInput(false) on the controller but no joy - I still get the error. page code in edit.aspx is: <% using (Html.BeginForm()){ % <p> This is some example text that you can edit inside the <strong>TinyMCE editor</strong>.
<%} % and Controller action is: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] [ValidateInput(false)] public ActionResult Edit(string mceText) { return View(); } Any thoughts - (I know the code is not complete) been trying this for hours but everyone just says to use ValidateInput(false)

• HTTPS causes jQuery to ignore request

- by Josh
I have an odd bug, this jQuery code executes correctly when calling the page via HTTP, but once I connect to the page via HTTPS it doesn't execute. The code basically tracks when a link is clicked.

Test Page

Facebook

I've tried updating the URL in the get use a full HTTPS path with no success. No error is raised when I try to HTTPS.

• Can I catch bad pointer errors in C++?

- by Simon
Hi there, I was wondering if there is a possibility to catch errors like this in C++: object* p = new object; delete p; delete p; //this would cause an error, can I catch this? Can I check if the pointer is valid? Can I catch some exception? I know I could set the pointer p to NULL after the first object deletion. But just imagine you wouldn't do that. I am using VC++ with Visual Studio 2008/2010. Thank you

• # character seems to cause problems with a get Request

- by Ankur
I have a queryString that I pass to a servlet's doGet() method that looks like this: count=9&preId0=-99&objId0=-99&preId1=-99&objId1=-99&preId2=69&objId2=16#!78&preId3=-99&objId3=-99&preId4=-99&objId4=-99&preId5=-99&objId5=-99&preId6=-99&objId6=-99&preId7=-99&objId7=-99&preId8=-99&objId8=-99 After and including the # everything is null, so I am assuming the # has some special meaning. Is this true? and are there other such characters that will do this?

• Flexible array members in C - bad?

- by Lionel
I recently read that using flexible array members in C was poor software engineering practice. However, that statement was not backed by any argument. Is this an accepted fact? (Flexible array members are a C feature introduced in C99 whereby one can declare the last element to be an array of unspecified size. For example: ) struct header { size_t len; unsigned char data[]; };

• Feedback + Bad output

- by user1770094
So I've got an assignment I think I'm more or less done with, but there is something which is messing up the output badly somewhere down the line, or even the calculation, and I don't see where the problem is. The assignment is to make a game in which a certain ammount of players run up through a tunnel towards a spot,where they will stop and spin around it,and then their dizziness is supposed to make them randomly either progress towards goal or regress back towards start.And each time they get another spot closer to goal,they get another "marking",and it goes on like this until one of them reaches goal. The program includes three files: one main.cpp,one header file and another cpp file. The header file: #ifndef COMPETITOR_H #define COMPETITOR_H #include <string> using namespace std; class Competitor { public: void setName(); string getName(); void spin(); void move(); int checkScore(); void printResult(); private: string name; int direction; int markedSpots; }; #endif // COMPETITOR_H The second cpp file: #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <cstdlib> #include <ctime> #include "Competitor.h" using namespace std; void Competitor::setName() { cin>>name; } string Competitor::getName() { return name; } void Competitor::spin() { srand(time(NULL)); direction = rand()%1+0; } void Competitor::move() { if(direction == 1) { markedSpots++; } else if(direction == 0 && markedSpots != 0) { markedSpots--; } } int Competitor::checkScore() { return markedSpots; } void Competitor::printResult() { if(direction == 1) { cout<<" is heading towards goal and has currently "<<markedSpots<<" markings."; } else if(direction == 0) { cout<<"\n"<<getName()<<" is heading towards start and has currently "<<markedSpots<<" markings."; } } The main cpp file: #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <cstdlib> #include <ctime> #include "Competitor.h" using namespace std; void inputAndSetNames(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps); void makeTwist(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps); void makeMove(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps); void showAll(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps); int winner(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps, int nrOfTwistPlaces); int main() { int nrOfTwistPlaces; int nrOfComps; int noWinner = -1; int laps = 0; cout<<"How many spinning places should there be? "; cin>>nrOfTwistPlaces; cout<<"How many competitors should there be? "; cin>>nrOfComps; Competitor * comps = new Competitor[nrOfComps]; inputAndSetNames(comps, nrOfComps); do { laps++; cout<<"\nSpin "<<laps<<":"; makeTwist(comps, nrOfComps); makeMove(comps, nrOfComps); showAll(comps, nrOfComps); }while(noWinner == -1); delete [] comps; return 0; } void inputAndSetNames(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps) { cout<<"Type in the names of the "<<nrOfComps<<" competitors:\n"; for(int i=0;i<nrOfComps;i++) { comps[i].setName(); } cout<<"\n"; } void makeTwist(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps) { for(int i=0;i<nrOfComps;i++) { comps[i].spin(); } } void makeMove(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps) { for(int i=0;i<nrOfComps;i++) { comps[i].move(); } } void showAll(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps) { for(int i=0;i<nrOfComps;i++) { comps[i].printResult(); } cout<<"\n\n"; system("pause"); } int winner(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps, int nrOfTwistPlaces) { int end = 0; int score = 0; for(int i=0;i<nrOfComps;i++) { score = comps[i].checkScore(); if(score == nrOfTwistPlaces) { end = 1; } else end = -1; } return end; } I'd be grateful if you would point out other mistakes if you see any.Thanks in advance.

• Is this bad coding practice?

- by user566540
I'm using PC-lint to analyze my code and theese lines are generating several errors. That makes me wonder if my coding pratice is wrong? char *start; char *end; // Extract the phone number start = (char*) (strchr(data, '\"') +1); end = (char*) strchr(start, '\"'); *end = 0; strlcpy((char*)Fp_smsSender, start , start-(end-1)); EDIT: After your help i now have: char *start; char *end; if (data != NULL) { // Extract the phone number start = strchr(data, '\"'); if (start != NULL) { ++start; end = strchr(start, '\"'); if (end != NULL) { *end = 0; strlcpy((char*)Fp_smsSender, start , FP_MAX_PHONE); } } How does that look?

• Display x if x display y if y (bad title I know)

- by user1914940
Ok so after reading the title you are most likely like...what? Ok, so I have a jquery code that displays input box if an item with prefix Blue from dropdown menu is selected. Code: $(function() { $('#text1').hide(); $('#select2').on('change', function(event) { var opt = this.options[ this.selectedIndex ]; var picked_blue = $(opt).text().match(/Blue/i); if(picked_blue) { $('#text1').show(); } else { $('#text1').hide(); } }); }); But what I also need to add is to display something else if any other item from dropdown menu is selected.

- by chota
Hi, I am just beginner on java script and JSON and never had done any work in these before. My employer has just asked me to create the basic POC of these. Scenario: I have a REST API and when i call it, it returns back response in JSON format. Need to To: Create a HTML page and use javascript to call that REST API and capture JSON response and print in the same HTML page. I would appreciate your help. This might be simple, but for me i have no idea because i never have done anything similar in java script and json. I goggled but could not find anything. Thanks, chota

• Jquery mobile function calls before Ajax Request end

- by rpmlins
Here is my problem. When My Home page shows, I call the LoadUser functions, which on success, sets the globalUser variable with the returned json, and after it loads I call the alert function but it says globalUser is undefined. I have tried many other work arounds, but I always get the undefined mesage. If I call the alert(globalUser); on the success function, it works as expected alerting the object. $('#Home').live('pageshow', function(event) { $.when(LoadUser()).done(function(a1) { alert(globalUser); }); }); function LoadUser() { $.ajax({ // connects with the web service and validate de user input url: "http://localhost:51396/Icademy.asmx/GetUser", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", data: { "userName": "'rodrigo'" }, dataType: "jsonp", success: function(json) { globalUser = JSON.parse(json.d); return globalUser; }, error: function(ret) { alert("Um erro ocorreu, tente novamente mais tarde."); } }); }

• Going from web browser to web request

- by Patrick
I am working on a program that automates tasks in a browser like entering text, clicking, etc and right now everything is working fine when using the Web Browser tool in Visual Studio 2010. What I'd like to know is how should I approach converting all of this so I can use send requests instead of the browser? I heard its a lot more efficient and a lot better if you are going to be using multi threading but I have so much code that already works now and am not sure how I should do this without scraping quite a bit of it.
