  • linked list problem (with insert)

    The problem appears with the insert function that I wrote. 3 conditions must work, I tested b/w 1 and 2, b/w 2 and 3 and as last element, they worked. But b/w 3 and 4, it did not work. It only display up to the new added record, and did not show the fourth element. Efficiency is not my concern here (not yet). Please guide me through this debug process.   • creating a vector with references to some of the elements of another vector

    hi, I have stored instances of class A in a std:vector, vec_A as vec_A.push_back(A(i)). The code is shown below. Now, I want to store references some of the instances of class A (in vec_A) in another vector or another array. For example, if the A.getNumber() returns 4, 7, 2 , I want to put a reference to that instance of A in another vector, say std:vector<A*> filtered_A or an array. Can someone sow me how to do this??     Hi, I basically started today with WPF, and I'm astounded by how difficult it is to do binding. I have an array of Textboxes, in an ObservableCollection, and just want to bind that in my Listbox, so that they arrange themselves vertically. I have fiddled around with this for 3 already, can you help? I'm working in a Wpf "UserControl", not a window as so many tutorials seem to rely on.

  • Java queue and multi-dimension array

    First of all, this is my code (just started learning java): Queue<String> qe = new LinkedList<String>(); qe.add("b"); qe.add("a"); qe.add("c"); qe.add("d"); qe.add("e"); My question: Is it possible to add element to the queue with two values, like: qe.add("a","1"); // where 1 is integer So, that I know element "a" have value 1. If I want to add a number let say "2" to element a, I will have like a = 3. If this cant be done, what else in java classes that can handle this? I tried to use multi-dimention array, but its kinda hard to do the queue, like pop, push etc. (Maybe I am wrong) How to call specific element in the queue? Like, call element a, to check its value. [Note] Please don't give me links that ask me to read java docs. I was reading, and I still dont get it. The reason why I ask here is because, I know I can find the answer faster and easier.

    I am new to programming and come from a non-CS background (no formal degree). I mostly program winforms using C#. I am confused about 32 bit and 64 bit.... I mean, have heard about 32 bit OS, 32 bit processor and based on which a program can have maximum memory. How it affects the speed of a program. There are lot more questions which keep coming to mind. I tried to go through some Computer Organization and Architecture books. But, either I am too dumb to understand what is written in there or the writers assume that the reader has some CS background. Can someone explain me these things in a plain simple English or point me to something which does that. EDIT: I have read things like In 32-bit mode, they can access up to 4GB memory; in 64-bit mode, they can access much much more....I want to know WHY to all such things. BOUNTY: Answers below are really good....esp one by Martin. But, I am looking at a thorough explanation, but in plain simple English.

    Hi, I was trying some problems with my 2D ruby array and my LOC reduces a lot when I do array slicing. So for example, require "test/unit" class LibraryTest < Test::Unit::TestCase def test_box array = [[1,2,3,4],[3,4,5,6], [5,6,7,8], [2,3,4,5]] puts array[1][2..3] # 5, 6 puts array[1..2][1] # 5, 6, 7, 8 end end I want to know if there is a way to get a diagonal slice? Lets say I want to start at [0,0] and want a diagonal slice of 3. Then I would get elements from [0,0], [1,1], [2,2] and I will get an array like [1,4,7] for example above. Is there any magic one-liner ruby code that can achieve this? 3.times do {some magic stuff?}

  • How can I add file locations to a database after they are uploaded using a Perl CGI script?

    I have a CGI program I have written using Perl. One of its functions is to upload pics to the server. All of it is working well, including adding all kinds of info to a MySQL db. My question is: How can I get the uploaded pic files location and names added to the db? I would rather that instead of changing the script to actually upload the pics to the db. I have heard horror stories of uploading binary files to databases. Since I am new to all of this, I am at a loss. Have tried doing some research and web searches for 3 weeks now with no luck. Any suggestions or answers would be greatly appreciated. I would really hate to have to manually add all the locations/names to the db. I am using: a Perl CGI script, MySQL db, Linux server and the files are being uploaded to the server. I AM NOT looking to add the actual files to the db. Just their location(s).

    i'm still learning Haskell and need help with the type inference please! using packages SDL and Yampa i get the following type signature from FRP.Yampa.reactimate: (Bool -> IO (DTime, Maybe a)) and i want to use it for: myInput :: Bool -> IO (DTime, Maybe [SDL.Event]) myInput isBlocking = do event <- SDL.pollEvent return (1, Just [event]) ... reactimate myInit myInput myOutput mySF but it says Couldn't match expected type `()' against inferred type `[SDL.Event]' Expected type: IO (DTime, Maybe ()) Inferred type: IO (DTime, Maybe [SDL.Event]) In the second argument of `reactimate', namely `input' In the expression: reactimate initialize input output process i thought "Maybe a" allows me to use anything, even a SDL.Event list? why is it expecting "Maybe ()" when the type signature is actually "Maybe a"? why does it want an empty tuple, or a function taking no arguments, or what is () supposed to be?

I am so excited about it and I feel good to finally get a hands on experience on a scripting language first time. The task assigned to me is to first pick a OS of my choice and setup a Ruby in it and study for 2 weeks. I have been developing applications in windows and Linux is not my cup of tea. Some part of me wants to try out Linux but I want to first convince myself whether OS really matters for Ruby development. If Linux does matter, which distribution can I start looking at?
