  • Codeigniter: how to track activity w/o using multiple db rows?

    I need to track the completion of tasks for users. I started by having a row called "first_login", "profile_complete", "other_thing_complete", etc... I'd like to combine these all into one row "activity_state". I just don't know how to properly store data in this field, and how to retrieve it. What kind of field should it be, and how should I read/write to it?

  • C++ - How to efficiently find out if any string in a vector can be assembled from a set of letters

    Hello, everyone! I am implementing a text-based version of Scrabble for a college project. I have a vector containing around 400K strings (my dictionary), and, at some point in every turn, I'm going to have to check if there's still a word in the dictionary which can be formed with the pieces in the player's hand. I'm checking if the player has any move left... If not, it's game over for the player in question... My only solution to this is iterating through the string, one by one, and using a sub-routine I have to check if the string in question can be formed from the player's pieces. I'll implement a quickfail checking if the user has any vowels, but it'll still be woefully inefficient. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time!

  • Beginnerquestion: How to count amount of each number drawn in a Lottery and output it in a list?

    I am writing this little Lottery application. Now the plan is, to count how often each number has been drawn during each iteration of the Lottery, and store this somewhere. My guess is that I would need to use a HashMap, that has 6 keys and increments the value by one everytime the respective keys number is drawn. But how would I accomplish this? My code so far: public void numberCreator() { // creating and initializing a Random generator Random rand = new Random(); // A HashMap to store the numbers picked. HashMap hashMap = new HashMap(); // A TreeMap to sort the numbers picked.   • Error handling with Python + Pylons

    What is the proper way to handle errors with Python + Pylons? Say a user sets a password via a form that, when passed to a model class via the controller, throws an error because it's too short. How should that error be handled so that an error message gets displayed on the web page rather than the entire script terminating to an error page? Should there be any error handling in the controller itself? I hope I am explaining myself clearly. Thank you.

    How does PHP read if statements? I have the following if statements in this order if ( $number_of_figures_in_email < 6) { -- cut: gives false } if($number_of_emails > 0) { -- cut: gives false } if ( $number_of_emails == 0) { -- cut: gives true } The code behaves randomly. It sometimes goes to the third if clause and gives me a success, while sometimes to the one of the first two if clauses when the input variables are constant. This suggests me that I cannot code only with if statements.
