    The description for "Use mandatory profiles on the RD Session Host server" is a little ambiguous: This policy setting allows you to specify whether Remote Desktop Services uses a mandatory profile for all users connecting remotely to the RD Session Host server. If you enable this policy setting, Remote Desktop Services uses the path specified in the Set path for Remote Desktop Services Roaming User Profile policy setting as the root folder for the mandatory user profile. All users connecting remotely to the RD Session Host server use the same user profile. If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, mandatory user profiles are not used by users connecting remotely to the RD Session Host server. I have a situation where only some users need to use mandatory profiles for logging in to a Remote Desktop Session Host. If I have some users with ntuser.dat and some users ntuser.man in their roaming profile what will RD Session Host do To a user who has ntuser.man in their roaming profile and has the setting set to Disabled? To a user who has ntuser.dat in their roaming profile and has the setting set to Enabled?

    When I run Adobe Reader, it tells me: Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client. I have a couple of issues with this: 1) It presupposes everyone has Microsoft Office installed. Not all home users have the budget or inclination for this. 2) It presupposes everyone wants Microsoft Outlook to be their default mail client. 3) I have Microsoft Office (incl. Outlook) installed and set as my default mail client. Even if I make it the default mail client from within the Adobe Reader Preferences, that doesn't stop the dialog appearing. 4) I thought I'd give Adobe Reader a new email address in the preferences, just to get it to stop bugging me. I notice, though, that it want's the SMTP and POP addresses and the account password? They have got to be kidding? I just want to view PDF files. How do I get the message to go away without telling Adobe my life story, giving them my mother's maiden name, my favourite movie, my place of birth, the name of my first goldfish and emptying the contents of my wallet for them?

  • Run Rails server on client's local machine for single tenancy [on hold]

    We are building a Rails application for a client that wants to run the app locally to be close to their data center for best performance. I had assumed we would use a standard web host. What requirements should we demand of the client's infrastructure..all I can think of so far is remote access for developers and a Linux machine? We don't have server admin expertise so would need to contract this, I doubt the client has the expertise. Does this sound like a recipe for disastor?!

  • Windows host MIA on network

    I've had a machine effectively disappear off my home office network. 192.168.1.100 - Windows 7 laptop (on domain) - problem machine 192.168.1.42 - Windows 2008 server (domain controller) 192.168.1.101 - Windows 7 laptop (guest; not on domain) For some reason I am unable to ping, tracert or remote desktop to 192.168.1.100 from .42 or .101. I can remote between .42 and .101 no problem however. .100 cannot ping nor remote desktop to .42 or .101. Remote Desktop access is enabled on .100. I've opened the firewall rules. I've disabled the firewall domain profile. I've turned the firewall service off entirely. No matter what I do, the .100 host is unreachable by any other host on the network. I'm at my wit's end. Thanks in advance for any debug advice!

I can't find anything in the logs that would indicates an issue. Is there some free software out there that can help me figure out why the site is slow on the client's end? The client has an IT department, but I need to be sure it's not my side of things.

  • Multiple client connecting to master MySQL over SSL

    I successfully configured a MySQL replication over SSL between 2 servers accross the internet. Now I want a second server in the same location as the replication slave, to open a connection to the master db over ssl. I used the same command found here http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/secure-create-certs.html to generate a new set of client-cert.pem and client-key.pem with the same master db ca-cert/key.pem and I also used a different Common Name. When I try to initiate a connection between this new server and the master db, it fails : mysql -hmasterdb -utestssl -p --ssl-ca=/var/lib/mysql/newcerts/ca-cert.pem --ssl-cert=/var/lib/mysql/newcerts/client-cert.pem --ssl-key=/var/lib/mysql/newcerts/client-key.pem ERROR 2026 (HY000): SSL connection error It's working without SSL.

  • Nomachine 4 for X forwarding

    I have been using nomachine nx client to connect from my mac to an ubuntu server for a while now and it has been a great experience. The most useful feature for me was the option to open up just one application on the remote machine, instead of a full remote desktop connection. I used to to open a terminal on the remote machine. Basically it was a much faster, much better replacement for ssh -X. All was great until I upgraded to the new version - nomachine 4. In this version I can not find that option. I have to run a full remote desktop session, which slows things down and is also much less convenient for my work. Was this option removed from the client? Or is it hiding somewhere in there and I just can't find it?

  • Windows : Map-a-network-drive to a remote Shared-Folder (on QNAP NAS) using OpenVPN

    Provided my lack of networking knowledge, I've been struggling with this issue for quite a few days now : I have a QNAP-TS212 NAS on which i've created a shared-folder (mostly excel files). All the computers in the local network (windows) are able to access it without any problem. Now, i want to access that shared-folder remotely (windows client), so : I enabled OpenVPN (and PPTP) in QNAP admin. Installed OpenVPN on the remote client. Applied the configuration file that the QNAP generated - Configuration (openvpn.ovpn) : client dev tun script-security 3 proto udp remote ***MY_WAN_IP*** 1194 resolv-retry infinite nobind ca ca.crt auth-user-pass reneg-sec 0 cipher AES-128-CBC comp-lzo OpenVPN connect successfully from the remote client. Now, here's my problem : I can ping the NAS (got IP 10.8.0.1) from the remote client, But when i try to map-a-network-drive, i don't see the shared folder or the NAS or any of the other computers in the network... I checked - all computers are in "WORKGROUP" workgroup. I'm probably missing some basic knowledge, So - any help would be greatly appreciated ! Many thanks.

  • Strange Internet Connection issues

    I'm attempting to troubleshoot problems with a laptop computer(HP 8510w) while it's connected to a server of mine via Remote Desktop. I double checked all the settings on the win2k3 server for remote desktop to verify that remote desktop isn't what's causing the disconnect issues, and other people using different computers/laptops can all connect to remote desktop correctly with no issues. These problems happen specifically when the laptop is connected via wifi(several different wifi sources, so it's not an ISP issue) as well as connected via a Verizon data card. However there's no network downtime when the laptop is resting in the docking station and plugged into the network with the remote desktop server. These problems have also only recently occurred since a recent hard drive failure in which a new hard drive was purchased and the laptop had a fresh install of windows xp professional. There's no special software used on this machine, just office 2003. So my question is, what could cause two types of internet access to fail while other types do not? If it is infact related to the win2k3 server, why is this particular laptop getting disconnected when others are not and are all on at the same time?

The dragonflyBSD exports file like this: /tank -mapall=root windows-client and i setup my windows 2008 a NFS client all right. There is my win cmd to mount NFS. mount \\dragonfly-server\tank e:\ After finished my configuration. I found the windows client can mount the remote tank partition. And i can create a file or a dir. But when i try to delete the file i just create. It alerts permission deny. You must have the permission.And the same result when i try to write to the text i create in the NFS partition I don't know why i just can create the file through NFS, but can't do any thing else. Is there any body can help?

  • TightVNC (or any VNC) client windows scaling

    Hi, I am currently using TightVNC to connect to multiple remote hosts in LAN. I start 16 VNC instances, set Scaling by: Auto (in connection options display), set Hextile encoding, and then select all windows and use Tile Horizontally, which covers my entire screen with VNC screens. It all works sort of nice, except that desktop interaction is really slow when there are more then 4 VNC clients. My question is, does VNC client (not just TightVNC, but any compatible client) support some kind of smart scaling option, so that client tells server something along the lines of: "Okay, I'm displaying your entire screen in a window size 300x225 px, so can you please start sending encoded images on that resolution?", at which point interactiveness of open connections dramatically increase, and when I decide to go full screen on some connection, client and server re-negotiate and server starts sending full resolution images again? I can SSH to the LDAP server using LDAP user but When in desktop login prompt, I can't login. It says Authentication failure. Client machine has Cent OS 6.3 and LDAP server has Cent OS 5.5 LDAP software is Openldap. LDAP servers logs doesn't even show any messages. If I would switch to another device and/or client, I would need to search for the last unread tweet, which is sometimes complicated (too many tweets). So, the question: Is there a client who can keep the status (read/unread) on tweets across multiple devices? My target systems would be now Android and MS Windows, but also Linux might be handy.

  • Unable to map to web folder using WebDAV client on Windows Server 2008 R2

    Hello, I have a client running Windows Server 2008 R2 on several servers. One of the servers is also running SharePoint 3.0 and my client has created a web folder to map to. I can map to the web folder from all Server 2008 R2 boxes that have the WebDAV client (part of Desktop Experience feature) installed, except for the server the folder resides on. When I attempt to map to the web folder on the server which the folder resides, I am repeatedly prompted to enter my credentials. I am using the same account that I used to map the web folder on the other servers. I have also tried mapping from the command line and receive 'Access Denied' What may be causing the problem? I would think that if I can map to the drive from one server, I should be able to map the drive from the rest as long as the WebDAV client is installed, especially on the server where the folder is located.     I have a svn checked out web application on a shared hosting linux server. The linux server has an svn client that I can access via ssh. From my localhost, I did the following > sshfs [email protected]:webappdir/ /media/webapp > cd /media/webapp > svn update svn: Working copy '.' locked svn: run 'svn cleanup' to remove locks (type 'svn help cleanup' for details) > svn clean up It's been 15 minutes and the svn clean up still isn't finished. I think it may have froze. So then I did the following: > ssh [email protected] > cd webappdir > svn update svn: This client is too old to work with working copy '.'; please get a newer Subversion client So now I can't update my webappdir because my /media/webapp is stuck on svn clean up, and my shared hosting server's svn client is out of date. I don't have privileges to install a new svn client on the shared hosting server. How do I get my svn update to work?

    Trying to join a osx machine on a dhcp network which forces certain client IDs. Even if I was to modify the client-id via the network properties, the DHCP server is not accepting this request, since Windows and Apple send this via different options You can set the ClassID in the Network Control Panel in the DHCP Client ID box. The trick lies in setting up your DHCP server to recognize it. Windows XP sends the DHCP class ID via DHCP option 77, and OS X sends it via option 61. You'll have to set your DHCP server to check for option 61, +with an offset of 1 and a length of 9+. That's the tricky bit. So, without modifying the DHCP server... (which does not belong to me), is there anything that can be done on OSX to modify the client-id option to be 77?

  • Terminal Server 2003 Gaining Time when Windows 7 Client Connects

    A Windows 2003 Terminal Server keeps time perfectly until a Windows 7 Home client connects. Then it gains time at a rate of several seconds per minute. The client connects through a firewall with only the RDP port open. The client runs the same apps on the terminal server that XP clients run with no issues. Using the Microsoft Terminal Server Client application copied to the W7 computer from an XPsp3 computer gives the same results. Current workaround is to sync time every 5 minutes. Any better ideas?

    Hi, I'm experimenting with Group Policy settings. My DC is running Server 2003, and the client I am using for this test is running Win7. I've restarted the client a few times, and tried running gpupdate/force for good measure. This machine is in it's own OU with a group policy applied to change one setting, Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Network/Offline Files. When I run MMC and look at Local Computer Policy on the client this setting shows up as "not configured". Thanks, John

  • Reverse proxy for mailserver (SMTP + HTTP for web client)

    I'm looking at doing some reverse proxy work for a mail server with corresponding web client. Both servers are running on the same machine, this is not a server with a high load. :) The solution I've discussed with friends is having the mail server/web client on our internal network. Then to put a reverse proxy on the DMZ to service both SMTP and web client HTTP-traffic to the mail server on the internal network. From what I understand this is the recommended secure solution? So far I've thought for the SMTP-proxy part of using postfix which will receive mail, do some spamhause and similar anti-spam measures and if it all checks out, send the mail to the mail server on the inside. The mail server on the inside will send all outgoing mail to the proxy which will then send it out on the Internet. For the web client I'm not sure exactly which software I should be running on the proxy machine, I've been thinking about using Squid -- but that's basically based on the fact that I know squid is a http proxy. The web client data will be sent out over SSL. Reading around some here on Serverfault I've seen other people using Apache with mod_proxy+mod_security for similar situations. Am I thinking correctly for this solution? What software would you guys use and with which modules? Thanks in advance for the help! :)
