• Is this SPF record correct for me?

  I'm completely new to Stack Overflow, so Hi! I need to add an SPF record to my site "main.com" (not the real address) to allow an email publishing company "emailpublishers.com" (not the real address) to send emails on my behalf. However, I'm nervous about adding an SPF record because of the havoc it could wreak if done incorrectly. I use Google Apps. I also use "auxiliary.com" to send mail from "main.com." And, of course, I use "main.com" to send mail as well. "auxiliary.com" doesn't have an SPF record. I used Microsofts' and OpenSPF's wizards to generate the following SPF entry. Does it seem to be correct for me? "v=spf1 a mx ip4:55.55.555.55 mx:alt1.aspmx.l.google.com mx:alt2.aspmx.l.google.com mx:aspmx.l.google.com mx:aspmx2.googlemail.com mx:aspmx3.googlemail.com mx:aspmx4.googlemail.com mx:aspmx5.googlemail.com a:auxiliary.com include:_spf.google.com include:auxiliary.com mx:auxiliary.com include:emailpublishers.com mx:emailpublishers.com ~all" However, my host MediaTemple says in a knowledge base article to use: v=spf1 a:main.com/20 ~all So that added to my confusion. • DNS delegation on same server with DDNS and second slave server

  I have two servers running BIND, the first is setup as the master of two zones and the second as a slave for those zones. The zones are example.com and ddns.example.com. I have DDNS running and thousands of device entries are dynamically created in ddns.example.com. I wanted to keep DDNS separate from the main example.com, so I created a separate zone that the DHCP servers update. Considering these zones are hosted on the same server, is it possible to have delegation working from example.com to ddns.example.com? For example if my workstation's search domain is example.com and pointed towards 10.1.10.1 for its DNS provider, I would like to be able to resolve hostname.ddns. As it is, I can resolve hostname.ddns.example.com, but would like to be able to resolve just hostname.ddns. Alternatively, if the workstation's search domain is ddns.example.com, what settings do I need to be able to change to be able to resolve web, ftp, etc, which are all hosts in the parent, example.com zone? Does the ddns.example.com zone need to forward to the example.com zone? • How to get rid of messages addressed to not existing subdomains?

  Hi! I have small problem with my sendmail server and need your little help :-) My situation is as follow: User mailboxes are placed on MS exchanege server and all mail to and from outside world are relayed trough my sendmail box. Exchange server ----- sendmail server ------ Internet My servers accept messages for one main domain (say, my.domain.com) and for few other domains (let we narrow it too just one, say my_other.domain.com). After configuring sendmail with showed bellow abbreviated sendmail.mc file, essentially everything works ok, but there is small problem. I want to reject messages addressed to not existing recipients as soon as possible (to avoid sending non delivery reports), so my sendmail server make LDAP queries to exchange server, validating every recipient address. This works well both domains but not for subdomains. Such subdomains do not exist, but someone (I'm mean those heated spamers :-) could try addresses like this: user@any_host.my.domain.com or user@any_host.my_other.domain.com and for those addresses results are as follows: Messages to user@sendmail_hostname.my.domain.com are rejected with error "Unknown user" (due to additional LDAPROUTE_DOMAIN line in my sendmail.mc file, and this is expected behaviour) Messages to user@any_other_hostname.my.domain.com are rejected with error "Relaying denied". Little strange to me, why this time the error is different, but still ok. After all message was rejected and I don't care very much what error code will be returned to sender (spamer). Messages to user@sendmail_hostname.my_other.domain.com and user@any_other_hostname.my_other.domain.com are rejected with error "Unknown user" but only when, there is no user@my_other.domain.com mailbox (on exchange server). If such mailbox exist, then all three addresses (i.e. user@my_other.domain.com, user@sendmail_hostname.my_other.domain.com and user@any_other_hostname.my_other.domain.com) will be accepted. (adding additional line LDAPROUTE_DOMAIN(my_sendmail_host.my_other.domain.com) to my sendmail.mc file don't change anything) My abbreviated sendmail.mc file is as follows (sendmail 8.14.3-5). • Postfix / Dovecot and Email Retrieval

  I have setup Postfix and Dovecot on an Ubuntu box following the instructions http://www.exratione.com/2012/05/a-mailserver-on-ubuntu-1204-postfix-dovecot-mysql/ I can see that email is being delivered to and accepted by the server, but the email is not available for retrieval via POP3. What could be missing in my configuraton? It seems that email is not being properly handed off to Dovecot. • CNAME to another domain fails on some office networks, why?

  Our domain "aspenfasteners.com" is hosted by Volusion. We have CNAME records "find" and "search" which point to site indexing accounts on www.picosearch.com. These addresses fail on SOME private office networks which have their own DNS. We suspect the problem comes from Volusion's own name servers, n2.volusion.com and n3.volusion.com. Volusion support on problems this technical is non-existant. We have tried an NSLOOKUP on find.aspenfasteners.com with level 2 debugging info, and we got the results below. Is it possible that the local DNS is recursing to Volusion's name servers, and that while Volusion DOES return the canonical name, they do NOT resolve the address? Can anybody with expertise in this sort of stuff PLEASE look at the NSLOOKUP below and tell me if we are right, because Volusion is giving me absolutely NO support on this topic.   Background I have a client site that consists of a CakePHP installation and a Magento installation: /web/example.com/ /web/example.com/app/ <== CakePHP /web/example.com/app/webroot/ <== DocumentRoot /web/example.com/app/webroot/store/ <== Magento /web/example.com/config/ <== Site-wide config /web/example.com/vendors/ <== Site-wide libraries The server runs Apache 2.2.3. The problem The whole company has FTP access and got used to clogging up the /web/example.com/, /web/example.com/app/webroot/, and /web/example.com/app/webroot/store/ directories with their own files. Sometimes these files need HTTP access and sometimes they don't. In any case, this mess makes my job harder when it comes to maintaining the site. Code merges, tarring the live code, etc, is very complicated and usually requires a bunch of filters. Abandoned solution At first, I thought I would set up a new subdomain on the same server, move all of their files there, and change their FTP chroot. But that wouldn't work for these reasons: Firstly, I have no idea (and neither do they remember) what marketing materials they've sent out that contain URLs to certain resources they've uploaded to the server, using the main domain, and also using abstract subdomains that use the main virtual host because it has ServerAlias *.example.com. So suddenly having them only use static.example.com isn't feasible. Secondly, The PHP scripts in their projects are potentially very non-portable. I want their files to stay in as similar an environment as they were built as I can. Also, I do not want to debug their code to make it portable. Half-baked solution After some thought, I decided to find a way to section off the actual website files into another directory that they would not touch. The company's uploaded files would stay where they were. This would ensure that I didn't break any of their projects that needed HTTP access. It would look something like this: /web/example.com/ <== A bunch of their files are in here /web/example.com/app/webroot/ <== 1st DocumentRoot; A bunch of their files are in here /web/example.com/app/webroot/store/ <== Some more are in here /web/example.com/site/ <== New dir; Contains only site files /web/example.com/site/app/ <== CakePHP /web/example.com/site/app/webroot/ <== 2nd DocumentRoot /web/example.com/site/app/webroot/store/ <== Magento /web/example.com/site/config/ <== Site-wide config /web/example.com/site/vendors/ <== Site-wide libraries After I made this change, I would not need to pay attention to anything except for the stuff within /web/example.com/site/ and my job would be a lot easier. I would be the only one changing stuff in there. So here's where the Apache magic would happen: I need an HTTP request to http://www.example.com/ to first use /web/example.com/app/webroot/ as the document root. If nothing is found (no miscellaneous uploaded company projects are found), try finding something within /web/example.com/site/app/webroot/. Another thing to keep in mind is, the site might have some problems if the $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] variable reads /web/example.com/app/webroot/ but the actual files are within /web/example.com/site/app/webroot/. It would be better if the DOCUMENT_ROOT environment variable could be /web/example.com/site/app/webroot/ for anything within the /web/example.com/site/app/webroot/ directory. Conclusion Is my half-baked solution possible with Apache 2.2.3? Is there a better way to solve this problem?

• mod_rewrite not working for subdomain in Apache2

  Hi, I'm having some trouble with mod_rewrite. So I'm implementing it through .htaccess, and I can get it working on my main vhost, domain.com - what I want it to do is rewrite http:// domain.com to force it to https:// domain.com, which it does well. I want to have name-based vhosts for the one IP with the following redirects: (I'm breaking up domain names with a space because otherwise serverfault recognises them as links) http:// domain.com -- https:// domain.com http:// staging.domain.com -- https:// staging.domain.com http:// test.domain.com -- https:// test.domain.com http:// beta.domain.com -- https:// beta.domain.com domain.com redirects to https:// domain.com, but staging.domain.com doesn't, although I can access https:// staging.domain.com. The .htaccess is identical for both, just with the domain name different. It doesn't seem to do any rewriting at all for staging.domain.com, I've tested this by trying to get it to rewrite to www.google.com. I have a wildcard DNS record, *.domain.com which points to the domain IP. Is there a particular way I should have the virtualhosts configured to allow this? I keep reading in the Apache documentation that it doesn't support multiple SSL name-based vhosts. But I can access both https:// domain.com and https:// staging.domain.com just fine. Any thoughts?   I'm starting playing with nameservers. Currently I have: A domain: mydomain.com Access for writing the whois ns records. Access for writing DNS records at the domain hosting provider. nsX.foo.com A shared (hostC) hosting which cPanel writes in the nameserver of nsX.bar.com Basically I want the following structure: hostA.mydomain.com -> hostA hostB.mydomain.com -> hostB hostC.mydomain.com -> hostC mydomain.com -> hostC *.mydomain.com -> hostC Whats the correct way of configuring this? By the way I have configured the following records hostA.mydomain.com IN A [IP_OF_hostA] (at foo.com nameservers) hostB.mydomain.com IN A [IP_OF_hostB] (at foo.com nameserver) But now I dont know how to specify that @.mydomain.com and *.mydomain.com are resolved by the ns1.bar.com and ns2.bar.com, and it is hard to try with the delays after editing the records.

  I am struggling with this all the day, no answer i found here as well. Please advice how to setup proper a subdomain i need. My Apache config has 2 domains configured (on same IP), for the domain2.com i need to setup a sub-domain. • Site in subdomain (MaraDNS + Nginx)

  Welcome, Actually I'm doing some experiments on my VPS with Ubuntu. I've installed MaraDNS with Nginx. At this moment I've correctly launch static site which is available from Internet (maindomain.com). In next step I want to add new site which will be available in subdomain, for example dev.maindomain.com. I've tried to db.maindomain.com file (used by MaraDNS): maindomain.com. xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx www.maindomain.com. CNAME maindomain.com. dev.maindomain.com. xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is VPS IP address. In nginx.conf I have: server { listen 80; server_name maindomain.com; access_log /var/log/nginx/maindomain.com.log location / { root /var/www/maindomain.com; index index.html; } } server { listen 80; server_name dev.maindomain.com; access_log /var/log/nginx/dev.maindomain.com.log location / { root /var/www/dev.maindomain.com; index index.html; } } With this configuration maindomain.com works properly, but dev.maindomain.com isn't available. When I try: ping dev.maindomain.com then I get my xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx IP. Do you have any suggestions how can I resolve this problem?

• Using .htaccess, can you hide the true URL?

  So I have a web hotel with 1 main website http://www.myrootsite.com/ and a few websites in subdirectories, in a folder called projects. I have domain names pointing to the subdirectories, but when holding the mouse over a link in those websites the URLs are shown as: http://www.myrootsite.com/projects/mysubsite/contact.html When I'm on mysubsite.com I want them to be shown as: http://www.mysubsite.com/contact.html I spoke to support for the web hotel and the guy said try using .htaccess, but I'm not sure exactly how to do this. Thank you very much for your time! Edit: For more information My website is: http://www.example1.com/ and I also own http://www.example2.com/. All of example2.com's files are in: example1.com/projects/example2/. When you visit example2.com, you'll notice all of the URL's point towards: example1.com/projects/example2/ but I want them to point towards: example2.com/ Can this be done?   I own a domain, let's call it mydomain.com. I need to host the following off it: forums.mydomain.com www.mydomain.com blog.mydomain.com objects.mydomain.com I believe I can get 5 static IPs. I plan on assigning one each to those four hosts. Then I need to adhoc create names, all below objects.mydomain.com. For instance: one.objects.mydomain.com two.objects.mydomain.com three.objects.mydomain.com I need to create these names programatically, and without human intervention. Preferably, they would not get their own IPs. They would use the IP of objects.mydomain.com. First question: Does this mean that I need to host my own DNS? Second question: I'm using Apache as a web server. What does the virtual host configuration look like? • How to share session cookies between Internet Explorer and an ActiveX components hosted in a webpage

  I am currently working on a .Net application which makes HTTP requests to some web applications hosted on a IIS server. The application is deployed through ClickOnce and is working fine on simple networks architectures. One of our customers has a very complex network involving a custom authentication server on which the user has first to log himself in order to be authenticated and get access to other applications on this network. Once authenticated on this server, a session cookie is created and sent to the user. Every time the user then makes a request on a secured server of the network, this cookie is checked to grant access to the user. If this cookie is not sent with the request, the user is redirected to the login page. The only browser used is Internet Explorer. This cookie cannot be accessed from our .net application since it is executed in another process than the Internet Explorer process which was used to log the user in, and thus is not sent with our requests, which cannot be completed since the server redirects every of our requests to the login page. I had a look at embedding my application into Internet Explorer by making the main control COM visible and creating it on an HTML page with an tag. It is working properly, however the sessions cookies set earlier in the browser are not sent when the ActiveX control makes web requests. I was hoping this sharing of the session information would be automatic (although I didn't really believe it). So my questions are : Is it possible to have access to this cookie in the embedded ActiveX? How? Does it make a difference to use a .Net COM-interop component instead of a "true" ActiveX control? Also, are there specific security words to describe this kind of behaviors (given that I am not an expert at all on security topics, this lack of proper terminology makes it a lot harder to find the needed resources)? My goal is to have my application's requests look the same from the requests made by the host browser's requests, and I thought that embedding the application as an ActiveX control into the browser was the only way to achieve this, however any suggestion on another to do this is welcome.

• Visual Studio project using the Quality Center API remains in memory

  Hi, Currently developing a connector DLL to HP's Quality Center. I'm using their (insert expelative) COM API to connect to the server. An Interop wrapper gets created automatically by VStudio. My solution has 2 projects: the DLL and a tester application - essentially a form with buttons that call functions in the DLL. Everything works well - I can create defects, update them and delete them. When I close the main form, the application stops nicely. But when I call a function that returns a list of all available projects (to fill a combo box), if I close the main form, VStudio still shows the solution as running and I have to stop it. I've managed to pinpoint a single function in my code that when I call, the solution remains "hung" and if I don't, it closes well. It's a call to a property in the TDC object get_VisibleProjects that returns a List (not the .Net one, but a type in the COM library) - I just iterate over it and return a proper list (that I later use to fill the combo box): public List<string> GetAvailableProjects() { List<string> projects = new List<string>(); foreach (string project in this.tdc.get_VisibleProjects(qcDomain)) { projects.Add(project); } return projects; } My assumption is that something gets retained in memory. If I run the EXE outside of VStudio it closes - but who knows what gets left behind in memory? My question is - how do I get rid of whatever calling this property returns? Shouldn't the GC handle this? Do I need to delve into pointers? Things I've tried: getting the list into a variable and setting it to null at the end of the function Adding a destructor to the class and nulling the tdc object Stepping through the tester function application all the way out, whne the form closes and the Main function ends - it closes, but VStudio still shows I'm running. • Converting an int64 value to a Number object in JavaScript

  I have a COM object which has a method that returns an unsigned int64 (VT_UI8) value. We have an HTML page which contains some JavaScript which can load the COM object and make the call to that method, to retrieve the value as such: var foo = MyCOMObject.GetInt64Value(); This value can easily be displayed to the user in a message dialog using: alert(foo); or displayed on the page by: document.getElementById('displayToUser').innerHTML = foo; However, we cannot use this value as a Number (e.g. if we try to multiply it by 2) without the page throwing "Number expected" errors. If we check "typeof(foo)" it returns "unknown". I've found a workaround for this by doing the following: document.getElementById('displayToUser').innerHTML = foo; var bar = parseInt(document.getElementById('displayToUser').innerHTML); alert(bar*2); What I need to know is how to make that process more efficient. Specifically, is there a way to cast foo to a String explicitly, rather than having to set some document element's innerHTML to foo and then retrieve it from that. I wouldn't mind calling something like: alert(parseInt((string)foo) * 2); Even better would be if there is a way to directly convert the int64 to a Number, without going through the String conversion, but I hold out less hope for that.

• Convert IDispatch* to a string?

  I am converting an old VB COM object (which I didn't write) to C++ using ATL. One of the methods, according to the IDL, takes an IDispatch* as a parameter and the documentation and samples for this method claim that you can pass either a string (which is the progid of an object that will be created and used by the control) or an IDispatch* to an object that has already been created. How on earth do I implement this in ATL? For example, the IDL: [id(1)] HRESULT Test(IDispatch* obj); The samples (which are all JScript): obj.Test("foo.bar"); or var someObject = new ActiveXObject("foo.bar"); obj.Test(someObject); To make matters even more bizarre the actual VB code that implements this method actually declares the 'obj' parameter as a string! However, it all seems to work. Can you even pass a string to a COM method that takes an IDispatch*? If so, can I determine that the IDispatch* is actually a string in my C++ ATL code? Even better, if it's an IDispatch that implements a specific interface I will want to call methods on it, or instantiate an object if it's a string. Any ideas welcome!

• Do the new NoPIA and Type Equivalence features in C#/.NET 4.0 mean Microsoft.mshtml.dll is no longer

  I'm maintaining a WPF based application which contains a WinForms based WebBrowser control that based on the IE web browser control. When we deploy, we have had to also supply Microsoft.mshtml.dll and do some custom configuration stuff for our ClickOnce publishing process as well in order to get things to work. I'm curious that with the new NoPIA and Type Equivalence features and dynamic type capabilities in C# 4.0 can we expect that if we upgrade that we can remove the dependencies on the Microsoft.mshtml.dll assembly? If so this will not only reduce the size of our deployment quite a bit but will also simplify our publishing process as well. It is my understanding that we should be able embed the types that normally get automatically generated into extra assemblies for COM types such as the MapPoint Control by Visual Studio. I don't know if this also applies to the Microsoft.mshtml.dll or even how it is done even in the most simple of cases. If somebody could provide an explanation about what the practical impact of these new features are on a project that relies on COM interop and especially the Microsoft.mshtml.dll assembly it would be of great help to me.

So far I've been able to connect to everything in the API except one item, which I believe to be a "parameterized property" based on extensive Googling. Here's what the API specification looks like according to the docs (Full version here: http://www.amibroker.com/guide/objects.html): Property Filter(ByVal nType As Integer, ByVal pszCategory As String) As Long [r/w] A javascript snippet to update the value looks like this: AB = new ActiveXObject("Broker.Application"); AA = AB.Analysis; AA.Filter( 0, "market" ) = 0; Using the following C# late-binding code, I can get the value of the property, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to set the value: object[] parameter = new object[2]; parameter[0] = Number; parameter[1] = Type; object filters = _analysis.GetType().InvokeMember("Filter", BindingFlags.GetProperty, null, _analysis, parameter); So far I have tried: using BindingFlags.SetProperty, BindingFlags.SetField casting the returned object to a PropertyInfo object and trying to update the value using it adding extra object containing the value to the parameters object various other things as last-ditch efforts From what I can see, this should be straight-forward, but I'm finding the late binding in C# to be cumbersome at best. The property looks like a method call to me, which is what is throwing me off. How does one assign a value to a method, and what would the prototype for late-binding C# code look like for it? • Visual Studio project remains "stuck" when stopped

  Hi, Currently developing a connector DLL to HP's Quality Center. I'm using their (insert expelative) COM API to connect to the server. An Interop wrapper gets created automatically by VStudio. My solution has 2 projects: the DLL and a tester application - essentially a form with buttons that call functions in the DLL. Everything works well - I can create defects, update them and delete them. When I close the main form, the application stops nicely. But when I call a function that returns a list of all available projects (to fill a combo box), if I close the main form, VStudio still shows the solution as running and I have to stop it. I've managed to pinpoint a single function in my code that when I call, the solution remains "hung" and if I don't, it closes well. It's a call to a property in the TDC object get_VisibleProjects that returns a List (not the .Net one, but a type in the COM library) - I just iterate over it and return a proper list (that I later use to fill the combo box): public List<string> GetAvailableProjects() { List<string> projects = new List<string>(); foreach (string project in this.tdc.get_VisibleProjects(qcDomain)) { projects.Add(project); } return projects; } My assumption is that something gets retained in memory. If I run the EXE outside of VStudio it closes - but who knows what gets left behind in memory? My question is - how do I get rid of whatever calling this property returns? Shouldn't the GC handle this? Do I need to delve into pointers? Things I've tried: getting the list into a variable and setting it to null at the end of the function Adding a destructor to the class and nulling the tdc object Stepping through the tester function application all the way out, whne the form closes and the Main function ends - it closes, but VStudio still shows I'm running.
