  • Why doesn't Ubuntu show my wireless device after updating the kernel?

    - by Jigar Shah
After an kernel update Ubuntu doesn't show my wireless device. How can I fix this? I checked the syslogs and it says the following: 2010-02-16 19:25:39,913 WARNING: /sys/module/wl/drivers does not exist, cannot rebind wl driver 2010-02-16 19:25:39,940 DEBUG: BroadcomWLHandler enabled(): kmod disabled, bcm43xx: blacklisted, b43: blacklisted, b43legacy: blacklisted 2010-02-16 19:25:46,066 DEBUG: BroadcomWLHandler enabled(): kmod disabled, bcm43xx: blacklisted, b43: blacklisted, b43legacy: blacklisted 2010-02-16 19:25:46,086 DEBUG: BroadcomWLHandler enabled(): kmod disabled, bcm43xx: blacklisted, b43: blacklisted, b43legacy: blacklisted 2010-02-16 19:25:46,162 DEBUG: BroadcomWLHandler enabled(): kmod disabled, bcm43xx: blacklisted, b43: blacklisted, b43legacy: blacklisted 2010-02-16 19:35:05,451 DEBUG: BroadcomWLHandler enabled(): kmod disabled, bcm43xx: blacklisted, b43: blacklisted, b43legacy: blacklisted 2010-02-16 19:35:05,480 DEBUG: BroadcomWLHandler enabled(): kmod disabled, bcm43xx: blacklisted, b43: blacklisted, b43legacy: blacklisted 2010-02-16 19:35:05,506 DEBUG: BroadcomWLHandler enabled(): kmod disabled, bcm43xx: blacklisted, b43: blacklisted, b43legacy: blacklisted 2010-02-16 19:35:12,496 DEBUG: BroadcomWLHandler enabled(): kmod disabled, bcm43xx: blacklisted, b43: blacklisted, b43legacy: blacklisted 2010-02-16 19:35:19,870 DEBUG: BroadcomWLHandler enabled(): kmod disabled, bcm43xx: blacklisted, b43: blacklisted, b43legacy: blacklisted 2010-02-16 19:35:23,398 WARNING: modinfo for module wl failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module wl 2010-02-16 19:35:23,399 WARNING: /sys/module/wl/drivers does not exist, cannot rebind wl driver 2010-02-16 19:35:23,432 DEBUG: BroadcomWLHandler enabled(): kmod disabled, bcm43xx: blacklisted, b43: blacklisted, b43legacy: blacklisted

  • Startup script on Ubuntu 12.04 not getting executed. Dependencies / load order.

    - by user861181
I want to create a simple startup script on Ubuntu 12.04: myscript.sh #!/bin/sh sudo /etc/init.d/nginx start cd ~/app/current god -c config/resque.god sudo /etc/init.d/redis-server start echo "SCRIPT RUN" I have it at /etc/init.d/myscript.sh When I do sudo chkconfig --level 2345 myscript.sh I get myscript.sh 2345 When I do sudo chkconfig --add myscript.sh I get insserv: warning: script 'K01myscript.sh' missing LSB tags and overrides insserv: warning: script 'myscript.sh' missing LSB tags and overrides The script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an Upstart job, but lsb-header is not supported for Upstart jobs. insserv: warning: script 'dbus' missing LSB tags and overrides .... myscript.sh 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off ** EDIT:: I checked the boot.log and it turns out that the script is run, but the problem is that god is not loaded yet when the script is executed. Apparently I want to load this script as the very last thing at startup (or somehow check if god is loaded and then start the script).

  • Windows 7 trying to turn off UAC every time Windows starts

    - by Mehper C. Palavuzlar
I have strange problem on my HP laptop. This began to happen recently. Whenever I start my machine, Windows 7 Action Center displays the following warning: You need to restart your computer for UAC to be turned off. I never disable UAC, but obviously some process or virus (I'm not sure, only guessing) causes this. As soon as I get this warning, I head for the UAC settings, and re-enable UAC to dismiss this warning. This is a bothersome situation as I really don't know what causes the problem. I have run a full scan on the computer for any probable virus activity, but TrendMicro OfficeScan said that no viruses have been found. There are no other strange incidents on the machine. Everthing works fine except this bizarre incident. How can I learn what process is trying to turn off UAC? What way should I follow to overcome this problem?

  • Why can't I install psycopg2? (Python 2.6.4, PostgreSQL 8.4, OS X 10.6)

After running python setup.py install I get the following: Warning: Unable to find 'pg_config' filebuilding 'psycopg2._psycopg' extension gcc-4.0 -arch ppc -arch i386 -fno-strict-aliasing -fno-common -dynamic -DNDEBUG -g -O3 - DPSYCOPG_DEFAULT_PYDATETIME=1 -DPSYCOPG_VERSION="2.2.1 (dt dec ext pq3)" -DPSYCOPG_EXTENSIONS=1 -DPSYCOPG_NEW_BOOLEAN=1 -DHAVE_PQFREEMEM=1 -DHAVE_PQPROTOCOL3=1 -I/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/include/python2.6 -I. -c psycopg/psycopgmodule.c -o build/temp.macosx-10.3-fat-2.6/psycopg/psycopgmodule.o unable to execute gcc-4.0: No such file or directory error: command 'gcc-4.0' failed with exit status 1 There's probably something screamingly obvious there to anyone who knows the first thing about back-end web programming, but unfortunately it's all gobbledegook to me. The psycopg2 documentation was not helpful.

  • C++0x rvalue references - lvalues-rvalue binding

    - by Doug
This is a follow-on question to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2748866/c0x-rvalue-references-and-temporaries In the previous question, I asked how this code should work: void f(const std::string &); //less efficient void f(std::string &&); //more efficient void g(const char * arg) { f(arg); } It seems that the move overload should probably be called because of the implicit temporary, and this happens in GCC but not MSVC (or the EDG front-end used in MSVC's Intellisense). What about this code? void f(std::string &&); //NB: No const string & overload supplied void g1(const char * arg) { f(arg); } void g2(const std::string & arg) { f(arg); } It seems that, based on the answers to my previous question that function g1 is legal (and is accepted by GCC 4.3-4.5, but not by MSVC). However, GCC and MSVC both reject g2 because of clause 13.3.3.1.4/3, which prohibits lvalues from binding to rvalue ref arguments. I understand the rationale behind this - it is explained in N2831 "Fixing a safety problem with rvalue references". I also think that GCC is probably implementing this clause as intended by the authors of that paper, because the original patch to GCC was written by one of the authors (Doug Gregor). However, I don't this is quite intuitive. To me, (a) a const string & is conceptually closer to a string && than a const char *, and (b) the compiler could create a temporary string in g2, as if it were written like this: void g2(const std::string & arg) { f(std::string(arg)); } Indeed, sometimes the copy constructor is considered to be an implicit conversion operator. Syntactically, this is suggested by the form of a copy constructor, and the standard even mentions this specifically in clause 13.3.3.1.2/4, where the copy constructor for derived-base conversions is given a higher conversion rank than other implicit conversions: A conversion of an expression of class type to the same class type is given Exact Match rank, and a conversion of an expression of class type to a base class of that type is given Conversion rank, in spite of the fact that a copy/move constructor (i.e., a user-defined conversion function) is called for those cases. (I assume this is used when passing a derived class to a function like void h(Base), which takes a base class by value.) Motivation My motivation for asking this is something like the question asked in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2696156/how-to-reduce-redundant-code-when-adding-new-c0x-rvalue-reference-operator-over ("How to reduce redundant code when adding new c++0x rvalue reference operator overloads"). If you have a function that accepts a number of potentially-moveable arguments, and would move them if it can (e.g. a factory function/constructor: Object create_object(string, vector<string>, string) or the like), and want to move or copy each argument as appropriate, you quickly start writing a lot of code. If the argument types are movable, then one could just write one version that accepts the arguments by value, as above. But if the arguments are (legacy) non-movable-but-swappable classes a la C++03, and you can't change them, then writing rvalue reference overloads is more efficient. So if lvalues did bind to rvalues via an implicit copy, then you could write just one overload like create_object(legacy_string &&, legacy_vector<legacy_string> &&, legacy_string &&) and it would more or less work like providing all the combinations of rvalue/lvalue reference overloads - actual arguments that were lvalues would get copied and then bound to the arguments, actual arguments that were rvalues would get directly bound. Questions My questions are then: Is this a valid interpretation of the standard? It seems that it's not the conventional or intended one, at any rate. Does it make intuitive sense? Is there a problem with this idea that I"m not seeing? It seems like you could get copies being quietly created when that's not exactly expected, but that's the status quo in places in C++03 anyway. Also, it would make some overloads viable when they're currently not, but I don't see it being a problem in practice. Is this a significant enough improvement that it would be worth making e.g. an experimental patch for GCC?

  • Compile error with initializer_list when trying to use it to initialize member value of class

    - by ilektron
    I am trying to make a class initializable from an initialization_list in a class constructor's constructor's initialization list. It works for a std::map, but not for my custom class. I don't see any difference other than templates are used in std::map. #include <iostream> #include <initializer_list> #include <string> #include <sstream> #include <map> using std::string; class text_thing { private: string m_text; public: text_thing() { } text_thing(text_thing& other); text_thing(std::initializer_list< std::pair<const string, const string> >& il); text_thing& operator=(std::initializer_list< std::pair<const string, const string> >& il); operator string() { return m_text; } }; class static_base { private: std::map<string, string> m_test_map; text_thing m_thing; static_base(); public: static static_base& getInstance() { static static_base instance; return instance; } string getText() { return (string)m_thing; } }; typedef std::pair<const string, const string> spair; text_thing::text_thing(text_thing& other) { m_text = other.m_text; } text_thing::text_thing(std::initializer_list< std::pair<const string, const string> >& il) { std::stringstream text_gen; for (auto& apair : il) { text_gen << "{" << apair.first << ", " << apair.second << "}" << std::endl; } } text_thing& text_thing::operator=(std::initializer_list< std::pair<const string, const string> >& il) { std::stringstream text_gen; for (auto& apair : il) { text_gen << "{" << apair.first << ", " << apair.second << "}" << std::endl; } return *this; } static_base::static_base() : m_test_map{{"test", "1"}, {"test2", "2"}}, // Compiler fine with this m_thing{{"test", "1"}, {"test2", "2"}} // Compiler doesn't like this { } int main() { std::cout << "Starting the program" << std::endl; std::cout << "The text thing: " << std::endl << static_base::getInstance().getText(); } I get this compiler output g++ -O0 -g3 -Wall -c -fmessage-length=0 -std=c++11 -MMD -MP -MF"static_base.d" -MT"static_base.d" -o "static_base.o" "../static_base.cpp" Finished building: ../static_base.cpp Building file: ../test.cpp Invoking: GCC C++ Compiler g++ -O0 -g3 -Wall -c -fmessage-length=0 -std=c++11 -MMD -MP -MF"test.d" -MT"test.d" -o "test.o" "../test.cpp" ../test.cpp: In constructor ‘static_base::static_base()’: ../test.cpp:94:40: error: no matching function for call to ‘text_thing::text_thing(<brace-enclosed initializer list>)’ m_thing{{"test", "1"}, {"test2", "2"}} ^ ../test.cpp:94:40: note: candidates are: ../test.cpp:72:1: note: text_thing::text_thing(std::initializer_list<std::pair<const std::basic_string<char>, const std::basic_string<char> > >&) text_thing::text_thing(std::initializer_list< std::pair<const string, const string> >& il) ^ ../test.cpp:72:1: note: candidate expects 1 argument, 2 provided ../test.cpp:67:1: note: text_thing::text_thing(text_thing&) text_thing::text_thing(text_thing& other) ^ ../test.cpp:67:1: note: candidate expects 1 argument, 2 provided ../test.cpp:23:2: note: text_thing::text_thing() text_thing() ^ ../test.cpp:23:2: note: candidate expects 0 arguments, 2 provided make: *** [test.o] Error 1 Output of gcc -v Using built-in specs.   • Preventing SSH RSA host key warnings for change of key vs IP address

    - by Adam M-W
I have a network with DHCP enabled, and also a computer that dual boots operating systems and has different SSH keys on each (and yes, I would like to keep different keys on each rather than copying the same identity/private key to each). Because the IP address does not change between operating systems because the MAC address is the same, when connecting to ssh, even when not using the IP address but the hostname via DNS/mDNS, I get the warning: Warning: the RSA host key for 'hostname' differs from the key for the IP address '192.168.1.172' Offending key for IP in /Users/user/.ssh/known_hosts:37 Matching host key in /Users/user/.ssh/known_hosts:38 Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? How can I surpress the warning when the hostname differs from the IP address for that hostname, but retain the ability to check host keys are the same for each hostname? (each OS has a unique hostname)

  • Using member variables inherited from a templated base class (C++)

    - by Aaron Becker
I'm trying to use member variables of a templated base class in a derived class, as in this example: template <class dtype> struct A { int x; }; template <class dtype> struct B : public A<dtype> { void test() { int id1 = this->x; // always works int id2 = A<dtype>::x; // always works int id3 = B::x; // always works int id4 = x; // fails in gcc & clang, works in icc and xlc } }; gcc and clang are both very picky about using this variable, and require either an explicit scope or the explicit use of "this". With some other compilers (xlc and icc), things work as I would expect. Is this a case of xlc and icc allowing code that's not standard, or a bug in gcc and clang?

  • Why is it so hard to build a gtk programe without console using gtk in windows?

I'm following the tuto: http://zetcode.com/tutorials/gtktutorial/firstprograms/ It works but each time I double click on the executable, there is a console which I don't want it there. How do I get rid of that console? I tried this: add_executable(Cmd WIN32 cmd.c) But got this fatal error: MSVCRTD.lib(crtexew.obj) : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _WinMain@16 referenced in function ___tmainCRTStartup Cmd.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals While using gcc directly works: gcc -o Cmd cmd.c -mwindows .. I'm guessing it has something to do with the entry function: int main( int argc, char *argv[]),but why gcc works? How can I make it work with cmake?

  • GNU linker: alternative to --version-script to list exported symbols at the command line ?

    - by David Cournapeau
On Linux with the GNU toolchain, I know how to control exported symbols from a shared library with a version script (gcc -Wl,--version-script=symbols.map), but I would like to list exported symbols on the command line instead. IOW, I would like the equivalent of link /EXPORT:foo from the MS toolchain. Is it possible ? EDIT: My question may not be very clearn: if I have a library libfoo.so, and I want to only export libraries foo1 and foo2, I can go create a version script foo.linux as follows libfoo.so { global: foo1; foo2; local: *; } And do gcc -shared foo.c -Wl,--version-script=foo.linux -o libfoo.so -soname libfoo.so I would like to be able to do something like this instead: gcc -shared foo.c -Wl,--export-symbol=foo1 -Wl,--export-symbol=foo2 -o libfoo.so -soname libfoo.so

  • Postfix not delivering mails

    - by Sotocan
Hi all, I have problems with a recently configured postfix MTA. When postfix starts the following warning appears: "postfix/qmgr[5078]: warning: connect to transport private/filter: No such file or directory" I have amavis-new as a content-filter, but even if I comment-out the relevant line, the warning appears. As a result (I think), of the above, I get errors like below, for every virtual domain that I have: "postfix/error[5080]: 254851834107: to=, relay=none, delay=13082, delays=13082/0.01/0/0.01, dsn=4.3.0, status=deferred (mail transport unavailable)" The good news for me, is that somehow I managed to fix that (don't ask me how!!!!) The problem is that now I have 50 or so mails, that were affected by the aforementioned problem, in the mail-queue... If I "postqueue -f " I get the same style of error as before (mail transport unavailable)...however new mails are delivered to their final destination properly... Any suggestions? Kind regards. P.S. Local mail delivery from/to Unix and virtual users, was OK write from the beginning!

  • Avoid access to www subdomain on secure server

    - by user44654
I have an SSL certificate that is valid for mysite.co.uk but not www.mysite.co.uk it seems. If I use mod_rewrite or .htaccess to redirect from one to the other will this prevent browsers from displaying an invalid certificate security warning if someone tries to access www.mysite.co.uk? (I've tried redirection but still get the warning if I type https://www.mysite.co.uk directly into the address bar of my browser. I want to know if this is because the redirection isn't working or if the browser will display the warning anyway.) I hope that makes sense.

  • Why is it so hard to build a gtk programe without console using cmake in windows?

    - by Runner

    - by drigoSkalWalker
Like this link http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc-3.3.1/gcc/Labels-as-Values.html I can get the memory address of an label, so if I declare a label, get your address, and add your address, i will pass to next instruction? some ilustration int main () { void *ptr; label: instruction 1; instruction 2; ptr = &&label; // So if I do it... ptr = ptr + 1; // I will get the instruction 2 correct?? Thanks for all answers.

  • MySQL keeps crashing due to bug

    - by mike
So about a week ago, I finally figured out what was causing my server to continually crash. After reviewing my mysqld.log I keep seeing this same error, 101210 5:04:32 [Warning] option 'max_join_size': unsigned value 18446744073709551615 adjusted to 4294967295 Here is a link to the bug report, http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=35346 someone recommend that you set the max_join_size vaule in my.cnf to 4M, and I did. I assumed this fixed the issue, and it was working for about a week with no issues until today... I checked MySQL and the same error is now back, 101216 06:35:25 mysqld restarted 101216 6:38:15 [Warning] option 'max_join_size': unsigned value 18446744073709551615 adjusted to 4294967295 101216 6:38:15 [Warning] option 'max_join_size': unsigned value 18446744073709551615 adjusted to 4294967295 101216 06:40:42 mysqld ended Anyone know how I can really fix this issue? I can't keep having mysql crash like this. EDIT: I forgot to mention every time this happens I get an email from linode staying I have a high disk io rate Your Linode, has exceeded the notification threshold (1000) for disk io rate by averaging 2483.68 for the last 2 hours.

when i complie code that includes mysql headers i get the following errors: c:\qt\2010.03\mingw\bin../lib/gcc/mingw32/4.4.0/../../../../include/stdint.h:27: error: 'int8_t' has a previous declaration as 'typedef signed char int8_t' c:\qt\2010.03\mingw\bin../lib/gcc/mingw32/4.4.0/../../../../include/stdint.h:31: error: 'int32_t' has a previous declaration as 'typedef int int32_t' c:\qt\2010.03\mingw\bin../lib/gcc/mingw32/4.4.0/../../../../include/stdint.h:32: error: 'uint32_t' has a previous declaration as 'typedef unsigned int uint32_t' Literally all I do is this. include cppconn/driver.h include cppconn/exception.h include cppconn/resultset.h include cppconn/statement.h include Now I can go into the file and comment the lines out that give me errors //typedef signed char int8_t; //typedef int int32_t; //typedef unsigned uint32_t; It compiles, but when I try to run the mysql code: sql::Driver *driver; driver = get_driver_instance(); I get this output test.exe exited with code -1073741515 Any Ideas?

  • Eclipse C++ on WinXP - Type `::iterator' has not been declared

    - by redwolfe
I'm new to C++/Eclipse. I'm trying to get it working to get a new perspective on a problem with a program I wrote in DevCPP. The program is simple and builds fine in DevCPP. In Eclipse, I get hundreds of errors like the one above. I assume the compiler can't see my include files. I've checked that the project settings - GCC C++ compiler - directories contains the location for my include files (D:\MinGW\include\c++\3.4.5). I've prowled around and tried to change 'Discovery Options' to 'GCC C++ Compiler' from 'GCC C Compiler' but it keeps changing back. I guess this is not the problem. Any help would be very welcome. I'm on a tight deadline with many interruptions and this is cracking me up.

  • You guys are harsh.

    - by Ratman21
Tough crowd around here it seems.   Let’s get down to the issues. First: spelling…I do not understand how there can be miss-spelled words, as I use spell check (MS Word) and cut and paste my post in to the blog. As to being defensive or complaining. Hmm as I said this is a vent for my frustrations as well letting others know they are not a lone, in Job less land. Warning, warning, warning, complaint coming. I have been out of work for 18 months now. I have gone in person to sites, emailed and phoned places for work (I am thinking of getting a sign with my resume and walking up and down the main drag until, I get a job). So forgive me if I seem a little frustrated in my post. Now one thing some one pointed out really bugs me. The person called me a Holy Roller and made a comment that this is keeping me from a job.  What! I am born again Christian and not a Holy Roller. What I have put on my web sites about my faith is staying!   Oh my web site is http://beingscottnewman.webs.com/ and my resume is on the home page (and has been since I started the site).

  • How to use rhythmbox-client on LAN?

    - by Kaustubh P
A few days ago I had asked this question, and according to one suggestion, used rhythmote. It is a web-interface to change songs on a rhythmbox playing on some PC. However, its not what I had thought of, and I stumbled upon documentation for rhythmbox-client. I tried a few ways of using it, but was unsuccessful. Let me show you a few ways of how I did it. The rhythmbox is running at address 192.168.1.4, lets call it jukebox. Passing the address as a parameter Hoping that I would be able to see and browse through songs on the jukebox rhythmbox-client 192.168.1.4 But, I get this message (rhythmbox-client:8370): Rhythmbox-WARNING **: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. (rhythmbox-client:8370): Rhythmbox-WARNING **: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. SSH ssh -l jukebox 192.168.1.4 rhythmbox-client --print-playing Which spat this at me: (rhythmbox-client:9389): Rhythmbox-WARNING **: /bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally with the following error: Autolaunch error: X11 initialization failed. rhythmbox-client as root gksudo rhythmbox-client 192.168.1.4 A rhythmbox client comes up, but with no music shown in the library.
