• Oracle sample data problems

  So, I have this java based data trasformation / masking tool, which I wanted to test out on Oracle 10g. The good part with Oracle 10g is that you get a load of sample schemas with half a million records in some. The schemas are : SH, OE, HR, IX and etc. So, I installed 10g, found out that the installation scripts are under ORACLE_HOME/demo/scripts. I customized these scripts a bit to run in batch mode. That solves one half of my requirement - to create source data for my testing my data transformation software. The second half of the requirement is that I create the same schemas under different names (TR_HR, TR_OE and so on...) without any data. These schemas would represent my target schemas. So, in short, my software would pick up data from a table in a schema and load it up in to the same table in a different schema. Now, I have two issues in creating my target schema and emptying it. I would like this in a batch job. But the oracle scripts you get, the sample schema names are not configurable. So, I tried creating a script, replacing OE with TR_OE, HR with TR_HR and so on. However, this approach is kind of irritating coz the sample schemas are kind of complicated in the way they are created; Oracle creates synonyms, views, materialized views, data types and lot of weird stuff. I would like the target schemas (TR_HR, TR_OE,...) to be empty. But some of the schemas have circular references, which would not allow me to delete data. The only work around seems to be removing certain foreign keys, deleting data and then adding the constraints back. Is there any easy way to all this, without all this fuss? I would need a complicated data set for my testing (complicated as in tables with triggers, multiple hierarchies.. for instance.. a child table that has children up to 5 levels, a parent table that refers to an IOT table and an IOT table that refers to a non-IOT table etc..). The sample schemas are just about perfect from a data set perspective. The only challenge I see is in automating this whole process of loading up the source schemas, and then creating the target schemas and emptying them. Appreciate your help and suggestions.

• CSS absolute DIV causing other absolute DIV problems

  Hello, I have implemented a chat script which requires an absolutely positioned DIV to be wrapped around the pages content. This is to ensure the chat windows stay at the bottom. The problem is that because of the absolute positioning of this main wrapper, all other absolutely positioned elements (eg. Jquery Auto-completes, datepicker's etc) now scroll up and down with the page. • Endless problems with a very simple python subprocess.Popen task

  I'd like python to send around a half-million integers in the range 0-255 each to an executable written in C++. This executable will then respond with a few thousand integers. Each on one line. This seems like it should be very simple to do with subprocess but i've had endless troubles. Right now im testing with code: // main() u32 num; std::cin >> num; u8* data = new u8[num]; for (u32 i = 0; i < num; ++i) std::cin >> data[i]; // test output / spit it back out for (u32 i = 0; i < num; ++i) std::cout << data[i] << std::endl; return 0; Building an array of strings ("data"), each like "255\n", in python and then using: output = proc.communicate("".join(data))[0] ...doesn't work (says stdin is closed, maybe too much at one time). Neither has using proc.stdin and proc.stdout worked. This should be so very simple, but I'm getting constant exceptions, and/or no output data returned to me. My Popen is currently: proc = Popen('aux/test_cpp_program', stdin=PIPE, stdout=PIPE, bufsize=1) Advise me before I pull my hair out. ;)

• Problems with registering click event listener to a frame-element

  Hi everybody, I ran into a problem with adding an event listener. I wrote a Firefox plugin a while ago for my bachelor thesis. It was based on a different attacker model than you would normally expect. In this scenario the attacker was the service provider (like Facebook, Google,...), who reads all your private data stored on their site (via JS). My final solution was to temporally allow JS (while the page loads and after an user action occured). To observe the interaction I used event listener, which worked very well so far. But last week I noticed that my approach doesn't work with web sites which are using a frameset (I added the event listener to the body...). So I tried to add the listener to the frameset respectively to the frame. But the clicks are only noticed when you actually click on the frame... (eg resize the frame with your mouse) But I want to register clicks on the document loaded inside the frame. I already tried the .frameElement. Sadly it seems that Firefox doesn't like my (or, which is more likely, I'm too stuipd :) ) and claims there are no frames... Could anyone tell me how to add an event listener to the document inside a frame? • Problems with WCF endpoints hosted from Windows Service

  I have a managed Windows Service that hosts a couple of WCF endpoints. The service is set to start automatically when the PC is restarted. On reboot I find that this line of code: ServiceHost wcfHost1 = new ServiceHost(typeof(WCFHost1)); in the OnStart() method of the service takes somewhere between 15 - 20 seconds to execute. Actually I have two such statements but the second one executes in a flash. It is the first one that takes so long. Does anyone know what could be causing the bottleneck? Because of this, sometimes the call exceeds 30 seconds and as a result the SCM thinks my service timed out while trying to initialize itself. Now, I know its easy for me to just spin off a thread to do this and return from OnStart() right away but I'd like to know what could cause this delay. This happens only when the service starts up on PC reboot. If the PC is up and running, the service starts & stops in less than a second.

• Flash As3 Mute Button problems

  Hey guys, I am trying to create a UI movie clip that can be used across different scenes. It uses variables from the root scope to determine states. When i press the mute button is works fine, however when i try to un-mute things go weird. Sometimes it takes 2 clicks to unmute, sometimes more. It seems random. Muting however seems to work first time.. Any ideas? I run getJSON() to fetch the info from the PHP which pulls from DB and I fill a div with the result. I have jScrollPane and jEditable so a user can scroll down and click to edit any of the content. It works sometimes and then it doesn't work which makes me wonder if the browser is not interpreting the code properly or if I am misunderstanding fundamental DOM concepts here....   I'm profiling some old java code and it appears that my caching of values using a static HashMap and a access method does not work. However: new Key().hashcode == new Key().hashcode // TRUE new Key().equals(new Key()) // TRUE What's especially weird is that cache.put(key, value) just adds another value to the hashmap, instead of replacing the current one. So, I don't really get what's going on here. Am I doing something wrong?

  Right, here's the story: We have had a website for one of our brands now for many years, the site design was very bad and recently did a complete overhaul, mostly design, but also some of the backend code. The original site was using links such as this example.com/products/item/127 and thus I wanted to change them to be move user friendly, especially to include the product name, the same link now reads example.com/product/127/my-jucy-product/. Since our switch over we have seen our Google results take a beating (we were on the first page for our normal search terms, now we're nearer the 4th!). The other problem we're having is that the links to the old products haven't updated to the new links despite me coding a 301 redirect from old to new. The 301 is not being fired from .htaccess, but in our PHP framework. I had a look at how the site is being loaded from a old link that is still in Google and here's what firebug is reporting: GET <google link> 302 Found GET example.com/products/item/127 302 Found GET example.com/products/item/127 301 Moved Permanently GET example.com/product/127/my-jucy-product/ 302 Found So the Google link has a 302, good. But when the old link comes in our framework is returning a 302! It's only afterwards when it finally hits the right part of the framework does it 301, so here's my question: Is the reason our old links have not changed and our Google Ranking has significantly nose dived because Google is seeing a 302 before the 301? At the time I was reluctant to mess with our .htaccess because it had become pretty complicated and I was under some pretty intense time constraints, now I'm wondering whether this was an incorrect disicion and perhaps I should revisit it. Many thanks! Edit Bugger, just signed up to the Webmaster Tools and I'm getting redirect errors all over the place, hundreds of them! I think this is my problem.

• UINavigationController navigation stack problems in Landscape Mode

  I have a iPhone application that I am currently converting to a Universal Binary to work with the iPad. I have successfully implemented everything I need in terms of layout so that full landscape functionality is now supported in my app (previously I primarily used portrait mode to display content). But, I have one strange problem, and it ONLY occurs in landscape mode: when I push a view controller onto the stack, it takes two taps on the back button to return to the previous view controller!!! The first tap shows a blank view, but with the same name on the left-side back navigation button, the second tap takes the controller back to previous view like it should. I don't have an iPad to test, so I am relying on the simulator. The problem does not show up on the iPhone and doesn't show up if you rotate back to portrait mode. My app consists of a tabbarcontroller with navigation controllers loaded for its vc's: //application delegate - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application //.... I navigate into new views using this method SomeViewController *vc = [[SomeViewController alloc] init]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:vc animated:YES]; [vc release]; Has anyone encountered this problem, and do they know if it's only a simulation error?

• Problems with WiX and Visual Studio web deployment project

  Hello, I want to create an .MSI package from a web deployment project in Visual Studio 2008. Now we want to use continuous integration and we would need the .MSI package build in the nightly builds. Till now we used standard Visual Studio Web Setup project, but this is not compatible with the MSBuild. So we decided to use WiX. The problem is that I have not found any good tutorial/documentation about this. Is there a way to do a WiX installer package from a web deployment project? If yes, how? Also, I tried to use heat.exe to create the XML for the WiX project .wxs file, but it seems that heat.exe doesn't recognize the web deployment project format. Thank you for your responses. The only other cause of this error I can find is that the Global.asax file is inheriting from a class other than HttpApplication, but I'm not doing that either. • Have problems designing input and output for a calculator app

  Hello! I am writing a button calculator. I have the code split into model, view and a controller. The model knows nothing about formatting, it is only concerned with numbers. All formatting is done in the view. The model gets its input as keypresses, each keypress is a part of an enum: typedef enum { kButtonUnknown = 0, kButtonMemoryClear = 100, kButtonMemoryPlus = 112, kButtonMemoryMinus = 109, kButtonMemoryRecall = 114, kButtonClear = 99, … }; When the user presses a button (say 1), the model receives a button code (kButtonNum1), adds the corresponding number to a string input buffer ("1") and updates the numeric output value (1.0). The controller then passes the numeric output value to the view that formats it (1). This is all plain, simple and clean, but does not really work. The problem is that when user enters a part of a number (say 0.00, going to enter 0.001), the input does not survive the way through model to view and the display says 0 instead of 0.00. I know why this happens ("0.00"::string parses to 0::double and that gets formatted as 0). What I don’t know is how to design the calculator so that the code stays clean and simple and the numbers will show up on screen exactly as the user types them. I’ve already come with some kind of solution, but that’s essentially a hack and breaks the beautiful and simple flow from the calculator model to the display. Ideas? Current solution keeps track of the calculator state. If the calculator is building a number, I take the calculator input buffer (a string) and directly set the display contents (also a string). Otherwise I take the proper path, ie. take the numeric calculator output, pass it to the view as a double and the view uses its internal formatter to create a string for the display. Example input: input | display | mode ------+---------+------------ 0 | 0 | from string 0. | 0. | from string 0.0 | 0.0 | from string 0.0+ | 0 | from number This is ugly. (1) The calculator has to expose its input buffer and state. (2) The view has to expose its display and allow setting its contents directly using a string. (3) I have to duplicate some of the formatting code to format the string I got from the calculator input buffer. If user enters 12345.000, I have to display 12,345.000 and therefore I’ve got to have a commification code for strings. Yuck.

  I was recommended by someone in Stack Overflow to use Core Data Editor http://christian-kienle.de/CoreDataEditor/ to manage the sqlite persistent store. However the latest version (3.0) crashes on launch everytime. Older versions load but I see nothing when i point the config to the persistent store and the object model directories. There is no documentation either. can someone point me to the right place to sort this problem? I am trying to find a more manageable way to coordinate core data development than sqlite consoles. thank you

  Hi folks, long night... can't get my second Celery/RabbitMQ setup run to work. step 1 sudo rabbitmq-server runs: ok! step 2 python manage.py celeryd -l info error: [2010-12-28 03:38:24,690: ERROR/MainProcess] CarrotListener: Connection Error: Socket closed. Trying again in 28 seconds... I have definitely: added rabbitmq user and vhost updated the Django setings.py Edit: I think it might have to with installing from a .deb instead of apt-get. After uninstalling the deb and installing the apt-get version I get this: invoke-rc.d: initscript rabbitmq-server, action "start" failed. dpkg: error processing rabbitmq-server (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 Errors were encountered while processing: rabbitmq-server E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) Any ideas on how I could debug this? :|

• Inspecting variables in Xdebug problems

  I've been using xdebug to do php debugging (netbeans or eclipse). I am usually able to inspect variables OK. However, sometimes when I expand a disclosure triangle for a variable -- typically when the client is making an AJAX call -- it will result in an empty response being returned and causing the AJAX call to fail. Has anyone run into this? Is there a way to make PHP debugging with xdebug more robust? (Not being able to inspect variables defeats the purpose of a debugger. Thanks

• XCode: deleting included resources causing problems

  If I try to delete some image resources from my (iPhone) XCode project via Finder, XCode will complain with errors on next build that it can't find these files. If I try to delete them via XCode's 'Delete' command, XCode crashes everytime without fail. Any solutions? Hints?
