  • Drupal 7 configuration error with Postgresql in Mac OS 10.6.5

    I am trying to configure Drupal 7 with Postgres. At the database setup step, I get the following error. Warning: PDO::_construct(): [2002] No such file or directory (trying to connect via unix:///var/mysql/mysql.sock) in DatabaseConnection-_construct() (line 300 of /Users/shamod/Sites/drupal/7/includes/database/database.inc). In order for Drupal to work, and to continue with the installation process, you must resolve all issues reported below. For more help with configuring your database server, see the installation handbook. If you are unsure what any of this means you should probably contact your hosting provider. Failed to connect to your database server. The server reports the following message: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] No such file or directory. Is the database server running? Does the database exist, and have you entered the correct database name? Have you entered the correct username and password? Have you entered the correct database hostname? NOTE: I am trying to connect to Postgresql but it fails on var/mysql/mysql.sock error. I have setup the database connection string in settings.php for Postgresql. It still does not work. Any idea?

    Is there any difference in (asymptotic) performance between Orders.OrderBy(order => order.Date).First() and Orders.Where(order => order.Date == Orders.Max(x => x.Date)); i.e. will First() perform the OrderBy()? I'm guessing no. MSDN says enumerating the collection via foreach och GetEnumerator does but the phrasing does not exclude other extensions.

  • Finding good heuristic for A* search

    I'm trying to find the optimal solution for a little puzzle game called Twiddle (an applet with the game can be found here). The game has a 3x3 matrix with the number from 1 to 9. The goal is to bring the numbers in the correct order using the minimum amount of moves. In each move you can rotate a 2x2 square either clockwise or counterclockwise. I.e. if you have this state 6 3 9 8 7 5 1 2 4 and you rotate the upper left 2x2 square clockwise you get 8 6 9 7 3 5 1 2 4 I'm using a A* search to find the optimal solution. My f() is simply the number of rotations need. My heuristic function already leads to the optimal solution but I don't think it's the best one you can find. My current heuristic takes each corner, looks at the number at the corner and calculates the manhatten distance to the position this number will have in the solved state (which gives me the number of rotation needed to bring the number to this postion) and sums all these values. I.e. You take the above example: 6 3 9 8 7 5 1 2 4 and this end state 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 then the heuristic does the following 6 is currently at index 0 and should by at index 5: 3 rotations needed 9 is currently at index 2 and should by at index 8: 2 rotations needed 1 is currently at index 6 and should by at index 0: 2 rotations needed 4 is currently at index 8 and should by at index 3: 3 rotations needed h = 3 + 2 + 2 + 3 = 10 But there is the problem, that you rotate 4 elements at once. So there a rare cases where you can do two (ore more) of theses estimated rotations in one move. This means theses heuristic overestimates the distance to the solution. My current workaround is, to simply excluded one of the corners from the calculation which solves this problem at least for my test-cases. I've done no research if really solves the problem or if this heuristic still overestimates in same edge-cases. So my question is: What is the best heuristic you can come up with? (Disclaimer: This is for a university project, so this is a bit of homework. But I'm free to use any resource if can come up with, so it's okay to ask you guys. Also I will credit Stackoverflow for helping me ;) )

  • How do I get characters common to two vectors in C++?

    I am trying to compare two vector objects, and return a single vector containing all the chars which appear in both vectors. How would I go about this without writing some horribly complex manual method which compares every char in the first vector to every char in the second vector and using an if to add it to a third vector (which would be returned) if they match. Maybe my lack of real experience with vectors is making me imagine this will be harder than it really is, but I suspect there is some simplier way which I have been unable to find through searching.

  • WPF tooltip best practices

    I'm about to change my application to include tool tips for all buttons, combo boxes, etc. I was wondering if there are any recommendations on doing this. For every control I'd like the tooltip to show the control's name in bold, followed by the description. I want to keep the style separated from the control, so I can change the tooltip style globally. What I would like to have, unless there's a better suggestion, is two additional fields per button/combobox/etc: 1-ToolTipName and 2-ToolTipDesc, both containing a string. How can I accomplish this (and is it even possible?).

  • Get text when enter is pressed in a text box in wxPython

    I have a (single line) TextCtrl. The user types data into this. When they press enter, the contents of the box need to be extracted so they can be processed. I can't figure out how to catch enter being pressed. According to the docs, with the style wx.TE_PROCESS_ENTER set on my TextCtrl, it should generate a wx.EVT_COMMAND_TEXT_ENTER event when enter is pressed in the box, which I could then catch. However, wx.EVT_COMMAND_TEXT_ENTER seems not to exist (I get "module has no attribute EVT_COMMAND_TEXT_ENTER), so I'm a bit stuck. Googling just gets a couple of hits of people complaining wx.EVT_COMMAND_TEXT_ENTER doesn't work, so I guess I need another way of doing it.

  • WPF: Bind DataGrid to List<String>

    Funny, how sometimes the simple things bite me in the behind. I can bind a DataGrid nicely to a Collection of some arbitrary class, using a DataGridTextColumn like this: <DataGridTextColumn Header="Name" Binding="{Binding Name}"/> Now I want to bind a DataGrid to a simple Collection. So since there is no property "Name" or something like that to bind to, how do I write the binding: <DataGridTextColumn Header="Name" Binding="{Binding ???}"/> String has no Property "Value" or something like that. And if I just write {Binding } I'll end up with a one-way-binding, unable to write changes back to the Collection. Thinking about it, I think it is not possible to bind to a collection, so I do need to wrap my string into a class? Or is there a way?

  • Seperating two graphs based on connectivity and coordinates

    I would like to separate existing data of vertices and edges into two or more graphs that are not connected. I would like to give the following as example: Imagine two hexagons on top of each other but are lying in different Z. Hexagon 1 has the following vertices A(0,0,1), B(1,0,2), C(2,1,2), D(1,2,1), E(0,2,1), F(-1,2,1). The connectivity is as following: A-B, B-C, C-D, D-E, E-F, F-A. This part of Graph 1 as all the vertices are connected in this layer. Hexagon2 has the following vertices A1(0,0,6), B1(1,0,7), C1(2,1,7), D1(1,2,8), E1(0,2,7), F1(-1,2,6). The connectivity is as following: A1-B1, B1-C1, C1-D1, D1-E1, E1-F1, F1-A1. This is part of Graph 2 My data is in the following form: list of Vertices and list of Edges that i can form graphs with. I would like to eliminate graph 2 and give only vertices and connectivity of graph 1 to polygon determination part of my algorithm. My real data contains around 1000 connected polygons as graph 1 and around 100 (much larger in area) polygons as graph 2. I would like to eliminate graph 2. I am programming this in python. I have tried hiding all the <td> elements of the row then showing those and that does seem to work but some strange styles get added to each <td> which interfere with the formatting i.e. style="display: block;"

This originally worked, but then I had to change some ID's and classes etc. I'm not sure how to debug scripts, so hopefully someone can help me with that, and also with my question :). Thankyou :).

What's your opinion?

But not returning the data when called from VBA - Excel 2003 (EOF property of recordset is True). Here is my code..   • How do I take a copy of my working copy to share with others?

    I did a ton of changes to our code and before I commit, I would like a friend to review. Is there a way with SVN to take a copy of my working copy (to bundle everything in a package) and apply the changes I have made so far to another machines without having to commit? In the past, with another source control system, I was able to do the following to "pack" and "unpack" my changes. As the title says, we are wondering if (fully) enabling automated Windows Updates on our developer machines will have implications for MS Visual Studio. That is, will any fixes to any components (be it libraries, UI/IDE, compiler, ...) ever be updated through Windows Update? We want to have 100% exact and reproducible development environments (wrt C++) on all developer machines, and so we are concerned that automated Windows updates may introduce some uncontrolled updates into our development chain.

    Say, for example, I've got this simple class: public class MyClass { public String MyProperty { get; set; } } The way to get the PropertyInfo for MyProperty would be: typeof(MyClass).GetProperty("MyProperty"); This sucks! Why? Easy: it will break as soon as I change the Name of the Property, it needs a lot of dedicated tests to find every location where a property is used like this, refactoring and usage trees are unable to find these kinds of access. Ain't there any way to properly access a property? Something, that is validated on compile time? I'd love a command like this: propertyof(MyClass.MyProperty);
