  I was reading ICU documentation and came across this fine advice: For common tasks like this there are libraries of freely available regular expressions that have been well debugged. It's worth making a quick search before writing a new expression. To which libraries of well-debugged regular expressions do you commonly refer? I'm not much taken with http://regexlib.com where the expressions don't seem all that well debugged. It appears to have no QA process besides user comments and ratings.

I do not want to turn speculative execution completely off but I want to increase duration of time hadoop waits before considering job for speculative execution. In Ruby they are used for some meta-programming tasks, like generating getters and setters for member variables (for example attr_reader :name to generate a getter for name).   I am using Android HoneyComb.I need to execute some tasks parallely and I am using AsyncTask's public final AsyncTask executeOnExecutor (Executor exec, Params... params) method.In each separate thread I am computing some values and I need to store then in an ArrayList.I must then sort all the values in the arrayList and then display it in the UI.Now my question is if one of the thread gets completed earlier than the other then will it immediately call the onPostExecute method or onPostExecute method will be called after all the background threads have been completed?MY program implementation depends on what occurs here.

• dijit/form/Select broken in Internet Explorer using Esri Javascript 3.7

  After developing a web map app in Firefox, I tested my code in Internet Explorer (company standard) to discover that the dijit/form/Select is misbehaving using the latest Esri JavaScript v3.7. The issue I am seeing is that the Select will not update/change from the first option in the list when using v3.7. If I bump the version down to 3.6, it works as expected. I've tried IE browser modes from 7 to 10 and am experiencing the same behavior between all of them. Can someone confirm they are experiencing the same thing? • Ndepend reports not showing up in CruiseControl Dashboard

  I am currently in the process of setting up ndepend report generation as part of Continuous Integration build process using CruiseControl.Net, I have followed the instructions outlined in ThoughtWorks Website. The ndepend tasks runs fine and the reports are generated correctly but when I goto the dashboard and try to bring up the ndepend reports, nothing comes up (it displays blank). Does the cruisecontrol dashboard application expects the ndepend report in a particular file under the working folder or the artifact folder ?

  From the perspective of an end user, what makes a software great rather than just good or functional? What are some fundamental principles that can shift the way a software is used and perceived? What are some of the little finishing touches that help put an application over the top? I'm in the later stages of developing a web app and I'm looking for ideas or concepts that I may have missed. If you have specific examples of software or apps that you absolutely love, please share the reasons or features that make it special. Keep in mind that I'm looking for examples that directly affect the end user, but not necessarily just UI suggestions. Here are some of the principles and little touches I'm trying to use: Keep the UI as simple as possible. Remove absolutely everything that isn't necessary. Use progressive disclosure when more information can be needed sometimes but isn't needed all the time. Provide inline help and useful error messages. Verbs on buttons wherever possible. Make anything that's clickable obvious. Fast, responsive UI. Accessibility (this is a work in progress). Reusable UI patterns. Once a user learns a skill, they will be able to use it in multiple places. Intelligent default settings. Auto-focusing forms when filling out the form is the primary action to be taken on the page. Clear metaphors (like tabs) and headings indicating location within the app. Automating repetitive tasks (with the ability to disable the automation). Use standardized or accepted metaphors for icons (like an "x" for delete). Larger text sizes for improved readability. High contrast so that each section is distinct. Making sure that it's obvious on every page what the user is supposed to do by establishing a clear information hierarchy and drawing the eye to the call to action. Most deletions can be undone. Discoverability - Make it easy to learn how to do new tasks. Group similar elements together.

• Should I consider Erlang for web mvc?

  Can I do that? I'm afraid that this can be an overkill and eventually I'll end up with much less productivity than with traditional stack like Ruby/Python/you name it. I understand that you will start with much lower productivity if you start to work with new technology but .. is it potentially worth trying and finally switch to Erlang as the only tool for web development and all the backend stuff. • 2nd Year College - Learning - Microsoft Server Products

  As the title says, I just finished my first year of college (majoring in Software Engineering). Fortunately my school likes Microsoft enough, and I can get pretty much anything I want that Microsoft sells. I also can get IBM Websphere and the like for free as well. Earlier this year, I set up an oldish computer (2.6 Pentium D, x64) to run ubuntu server headless. I'm predominately a Java developer, so Apache, Maven, Nexus, Sonar, SVN, etc made it onto the machine. It worked really well for personal and school projects, especially team projects (quick ramp up). Anyways, I started to pick up C# to complement my Java knowledge (don't judge me :P), and am interested in working with some of the associated Microsoft equivalents. The machine currently has the Ubuntu install, as well as Windows 7 Ultimate. I do all of my actual development work off my laptop, also running Windows 7 Ultimate. I was wondering what software you would recommend putting on the machine. I’m not actually serving anything off the machine itself, but in Ubuntu I had it doing integration tests with Hudson on every commit, and profiling my applications, etc, etc. The machine would be running headless, and I would remote into it. Here is what I am currently leaning towards / wondering about: Windows 7 Ultimate vs Windows Server 2008 (R2) (no one is really clear why I should go with one over the other) Windows Team Foundation Sharepoint (Never used it before, kind of meh about it) IBM Websphere or Glassfish (Some Java EE web server) SQL Server 2008 A DVCS In order to better control product conflicts / limit resource use, I’m wondering if I should install things into virtual machines (I can get VmWare or Microsoft Virtualization Products) I also plan on installing everything I had running under Linux (it’s almost entirely Java based development software, so it’ll run on both, only reason I went with ubuntu during the year was because the apache build seemed better). I’m primarily looking to become familiar with enterprise software development tools, as well as get something functional that will help my development process. (IE, I’ll still use project and assign tasks even though I might be the only one to assign tasks to, just to practice doing so). Is there any other software / configuration details I should explore? Opinions on my current list? I primarily use C#, Java, and PHP. I'm familiar with ruby, and python as well. Thanks!

• Ruby-on-Rails equivalent to ORM Designer for Symfony?

  In Symfony i just have to create models with ORM Designer and export it to symfony as a schema.yml and then use a symfony command to create tables, models and forms. I wonder if there is an equivalent to the RoR so that you dont have to create models manually by hand? It saves a lot of time using GUI for this kind of tasks and it is less error-prone. thanks

• What does an empty run queue entry points to?

  I'm trying to figure out the technicalities of scheduling in Linux. What I can't figure out is what happens with those entries in the run_queue where there are no running processes. In the run_queue we have a bitmap, a counter, and the array of lists themselves. For a list that is empty because there are no running tasks with its priority, what do the next and prev pointers point to?
