  The Problem I am working on an in-browser editor within a textarea. I have started looking for some information on dealing with textarea selection and found this jQuery plugin that does some simple manipulation. However, it doesn't explain what's going on. The Question Where can I find a good resource on Textarea Selection in JavaScript, preferably with a description of both pre-DOM3 and post-DOM30 scenarios? [Edit] In a great answer from Borgar, I have found several different places to start with contentEditable, selectionStart, and selectionEnd. I'll be looking into these things and posting any good tutorials I might find.

• Qt for Symbian - Detecting touch/non-touch devices...

  I'm porting a game for Symbian which supports both a touch & non-touch UI. I need to be able to tell if the device has a touch screen on start-up so I can enable the appropriate mode. After googling for hours and going though the Qt Docs I found QSysInfo but this merely provides the version of the Symbian device. Is there a way to get the actual capabilities of the device? There must be a way to tell if the device has a touch screen...! I'm using the latest QtCreator with the NokiaSDK. Thank you in advance, Nikos.

• Drupal - editing tab options for a content type not showing up

  I'm working on a D5 site and a lot of the content types have the menus at the top of the edit page. Examples: Overview | Grants | Dev load | Dev render | Edit | Revisions | Track | Workflow Overview | Dev load | Dev render | Edit | Revisions | Track | Workflow | Node queue | RelatedContent I'm not sure where these tabs come from, but I need to enable the menu for a content type that doesn't have them visible. I checked the workflow setting and the content type in question was specified to use workflow. So there should be at least another tab in addition to edit. The end goal is to have revisions show up in the menu, but I need to get the menu showing first. Any ideas where to start looking?

• Footer height based on screen size

  Hi everyone, I would like to create a footer which is relative to the content (so not fixed), but fills the rest of the screen. So for example, on my larger monitor, the footer would start in the same place, but fill up 100px (for example). On a smaller monitor, it only needs to fill up 75px. I tried using 100%, but it causes the page to be really big and the user can scroll down and fill the entire screen with the footer. Is there a way to get it to be a bit more reasonable size, so that it just about fills the bottom of the screen?   I want to have dynamically created views and be able to scroll(change views like in camera roll) either from my program or user should also be able to do that. The views should contain only a simple text. Each view has to replace other, so they are like chained. The other example is the screenshots of applications in app store application details. I don't know which classes to check/start so if anyone can give me an idea of how this could be designed I would appreciate it.

  I am a hacker not and not a full-time programmer but am looking to start my own full application development experiment. I apologize if I am missing something easy here. I am looking for recommendations for books, articles, sites, etc for learning more about test driven development specifically compatible with or aimed at Python web application programming. I understand that Python has built-in tools to assist. What would be the best way to learn about these outside of RTFM? I have searched on StackOverflow and found the Kent Beck's and David Astels book on the subject. I have also bookmarked the Wikipedia article as it has many of these types of resources. Are there any particular ones you would recommend for this language/application?

  When creating a record "grid" with custom paging what is the best/optimal way to query the total number of records as well as the records start-end using C#? Right now, I make two trips to the server: one for getting the records, and the other for counting the total number of records.   As a concluding assignment for the technologies taught in a data management course, we have to write a web application using the technologies taught throughout the course, this mostly includes xhtml, css, JSP, servelets, JDBC, AJAX, webservices. the project will eventually be deployed using tomcat. we are given the option of choosing the technologies that we see fit. since this is my first time developing a web application I am having some uncertainties about where to start, so for example now I am writing the object classes that will be used in the database and implementing the operations that will be performed on the database, but I am not sure about how to make these operations available to a client through the website, I mean I think I have to write a servlet through which I can extract the request parameters and set the response accordingly, but I would still like a more specific overview of what I am going to do, so if someone can link me to a tutorial with an example that makes use of these technologies while illustrating the stages of the design so that I can see how all these things are linked together in a web project. thanks

• C# timer getting fired before their interval time

  Hi, We're getting following problem while using system.threading.timer ( .net framework 2.0 ) from a Windows service. There are around 12 different timer objects.. Each timer has due time and interval. This is set correctly. It is observed that after 3 to 4 hours, the timers start signalling before their interval elapses. For example if the timer is supposed to signal at 4:59:59, it gets signalled at 4:59:52, 7 seconds earlier. Can someone tell me what is the cause for this behavior and what is the solution for that ? • python: can't terminate a thread hung in socket.recvfrom() call

  Hello, everyone I cannot get a way to terminate a thread that is hung in a socket.recvfrom() call. For example, ctrl+c that should trigger KeyboardInterrupt exception can't be caught. • java: relationship of the Runnable and Thread interfaces

  I realize that the method run() must be declared because its declared in the Runnable interface. But my question comes when this class runs how is the Thread object allowed if there is no import call to a particular package? how does runnable know anything about Thread or its methods? does the Runnable interface extend the Thread class? • Failing to send key presses to a running process in C#

However, when I press button 2, nothing happens. • How to assign fine grained permission on shared mailboxes?

  Typically you can assign either Full and Sendas permissions to mailboxes using Powershell. In our organization we have a need to assign other fine grained permissions like editor, reader , author to the shared mailboxes. We are using a third party tool to achieve this. I am pretty happy with the tool except for that fact that it is a GUI only tool. I am trying to automate the entire process of shared mailbox creation by using a combination of embedded powershell in C# program. All other steps are easy to automate but because this tool is GUI only, I am really struck. Is there an API method available to to achieve this? I guess EWS API can provide some answer but I really do not know where to start.

• Can i make an installer for my delphi programme?

  I have made a delphi programme, which consists of a .exe and two custom file types that i have made (called Data.data and variables.data) I want to create a programme / find a programme that would place a copy of the main .exe in a folder in the program folders of XP, along with the .data files, and then place a shortcut to the programme on the desktop (ideally it would also put a folder in the start menu - all programmes with the programme. I should probably also make an uninstaller as well, that would remove the desktop shortcut, and delete the files. Is there a free piece of software i can use to create this, or is there any way i could achieve this myself through delphi?

• ADB crashes when device attached with eclipse

  I am trying to get a development environment setup and having some problems with adb. I have eclipse installed and can create android projects and run/debug them in the emulator. But if I attached my device (HTC Evo) and try running on it, adb crashes. My device shows up so adb sees it. Everything is updated to the latest version. I even went and reinstalled my system so I had a clean start. It would still crash when I connect to the device. I restart adb but it just shuts right back down. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to fix this? Running on Windows 7.

  Hi, the following code is to open a console application (which uses pdcurses for output, nothing special): myProcess.StartInfo.FileName = "some.exe"; myProcess.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false; myProcess.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = false; myProcess.StartInfo.RedirectStandardInput = true; myProcess.Start(); The Problem is that it opens the designated window but directly closes it (it's barely visible). Starting the program without RedirectStandardInput works. The problem is that it does not throw an exception nor any error-message. What is wrong with my code? How can I write input to the program? I've looked around for a bit, and I've tried adding Libc.C to the 'Ignore Library' list, which in turn causes about 150 errors. Not sure what to do from here.

• Is autoload thread-safe in Ruby 1.9?

  It seems to me that the Ruby community has been freaking out a little about autoload since this famous thread, discouraging its use for thread safety reasons. Does anyone know if this is no longer an issue in Ruby 1.9.1 or 1.9.2? I've seen a bit of talk about wrapping requires in mutexes and such, but the 1.9 changelogs (or at least as much as I've been able to find) don't seem to address this particular question. I'd like to know if I can reasonably start autoloading in 1.9-only libraries without any reasonable grief. Thanks in advance for any insights.

• What Are Basic Tools For A New Project?

  For a long time, I thought that to start a new project we only need 3 basic tools. 1) A Build System (e.g. Maven & CruiseControl) 2) A Version Control System (e.g. CVS & SVN & GIT) 3) A Bug Tracking System (e.g. Bugzilla) Yesterday, a senior guy told me that we need at least one thing more. That is KPI(Key Performance Index). Without KPI, it is impossible to measure whether the project is progressing well or not. KPI is kind of SOFT tool compared to Maven/SVN/Bugzilla. I believe since I missed SOFT tools, there must be some other kind of tools I missed. So, anybody get some ideas what other basic tools necessary for a new project?

• How to disable JSR-303 Hibernate Validation in Spring3

  After putting hibernate-validator.jar and javax.validation-api.jar in my classpath the org.springframework.dao.DataIntegrityViolationException is replaced by org.hibernate.exception.ConstraintViolationException and this is causing a lot of issues. I have to put this two jars to be able to upgrade Jersey to 2.4, it has dependency on these two jars. Putting these properties into hibernate.properties file doesn't help, hibernate simply ignores them but it loads the properties on start-up loaded properties from resource hibernate.properties: {hibernate.validator.apply_to_ddl=false,hibernate.validator.autoregister_listeners=false etc} javax.persistence.validation.mode=none hibernate.validator.autoregister_listeners=false hibernate.validator.apply_to_ddl=false I am using Spring 3.2.4 with SessionFactory and mapping resources from hbm.xml files with constraints in it, hibernate 3.6.9.final, hibernate-validator 5.0.final, javax.validator-api 1.1.0.Final I just can't figure out how to disable hibernate validation, any help will be much appreciated.

• Adding additional components to a web page after rendering by Wicket

  I have a requirement to create a web page using Wicket 1.5, which can present a variable number of panels to capture user input. All the panels have the same structure. The page would start off with one panel, and includes a button to dynamically add more as required. So the number of panels is unknown at the time the page is initially rendered. Effectively I'd be altering the structure of the page dynamically. This is possible in Javascript, using document.addElement() I've done a similar thing in the past by creating all the components on page load, and selectively showing/hiding components. The difference here is that the number of components (panels) is initially unknown. I'm unsure as to how this would be achieved with Wicket.

• Scan from last instance of character to end of string using NSScanner

  Given a string such as: "new/path - path/path/03 - filename.ext", how can I use NSScanner (or any other approach) to return the substring from the last "/" to the end of the string, i.e., "03 - filename.ext"? The code I've been trying to start with is: while ([fileScanner isAtEnd] == NO){ slashPresent = [fileScanner scanUpToString:@"/" intoString:NULL]; if (slashPresent == YES) { [fileScanner scanString:@"/" intoString:NULL]; lastPosition = [fileScanner scanLocation]; } NSLog(@"fileScanner position: %d", [fileScanner scanLocation]); NSLog(@"lastPosition: %d", lastPosition); } ...and this results in a seg fault after scanning to the end of the string! • PHP Session code work differently on two servers

  I have some code which works fine on one server but is giving a session header warning: Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent on another. I have checked the php.ini settings on the two servers and they are identical. I know that the warning message is supposed to suggest that something has been outputted before the session_start but what I don't understand is why the same code works on one server but not the other. Is there anything else that could be explaining it other than the php.ini settings?

• Mandatory Parameters in Request object (WCF)

  lHi, I'm currently writing a WCF service. One of those methods get's a request object and returns a response object. In the request there are a couple of value-type members. Is there a way to define members are mandatory in the declarative way? I'm in an early stage of development and I don't want to start with versioning now. In addition I don't want to have method sig with 25 parameters, therefore I created the request object. The problem I have is that due to the value-types, I can never be sure if the consumer of the service intended to have the default value in there, or it was just by lazyness. On consumer side you don't easily detect that you probably missed that property. So I would like to have something that forces the caller of the service to provide an value, and if not he ideally get's a compile-time error. any ideas? tia, Martin
