• How to remove space between chart area and plot area?

  I am using chartingToolKit:Chart control. I want to remove the white space appear in between the chart and plot area. • Display HTML page in Office 2003 or 2007 task pane via VBA

  Is it possible to display an HTML page in an Office 2003 and/or 2007 task pane via VBA? Background: We have a complicated configuration file that our users maintain in Word (using a real editor is not an option for our audience). We would like to create several toolbar buttons that display a basic HTML page in a task pane as a form of online help for our users. The reason we want to use a task pane to display help (vs. an external browser or traditional help engine) is so that the help content is "embedded" in Word vs. displayed via a seperate application. The problem with using a regular browser or help engine to display help is that users have to manually size and position both applications so that they can see them simultaneously and its very easy to "lose" one application when togging between many applications. We don't want to go down the route of writing a VisualStudio based task pane component - we want to keep things simple (KISS) and encapsulate everything in an easy to distribute Word template file (.dot or dotx.). Suggestions?

• Does a silverlight video player always need source address in URL format only?

  I have seen on many sites the silverlight video player. I noticed that all of them took a URL as the source of the video file. Can a silverlight player play a video file kept locally? I mean a simple HTML file kept in a folder with the xap (say VideoPlayer.xap) and the video (say ABC.avi) file. The html file would contain an object tag. • How can I use a delimiter in wmic output, separating columns?

  I want to fetch Windows Hotfix listing with some format, whose output can be separated with some delimiter. so far I found a wmic command which gives me a desired output but the problem is the \s delimiter is not going to work here. • Android layout with sqare buttons

  I want to make a layout similar to this one: Four square buttons on the screen - each of those using half of the screen with/screen height (whichever is smaler). • Rendering UIImage/CGImage into CGPDFContext results in... blankness!

  Hi all, I'm trying to take an image that I have in a image object and render into a Core Graphics PDF context-- happens to be on an iPhone but this question surely applies equally to desktop Quartz. This UIImage is a simple color-on-white image at about 600x800 resolution. If I (say) turn it into a PNG file, that file looks exactly as expected-- so the data is OK. What I noticed, is that in the HTML, the VerticalPanel is given the class name obfuscated by GWT, but the CSS is not send to the browser - in fact, the GWT doesn't even ask for it. Am I missing something?

• Mimic CALayer shadow properties found in iPhone OS 3.2 for OS 3.1

  The CALayer shadow properties like shadowOffset, shadowRadius, shadowColor are not available in iPhone OS versions below 3.2 and I'm wondering how I could mimic that functionality for use with 3.1 and below. I want to use this to be able to add drop shadows to UIViews in a clean way so that the shadows are drawn at layer level somehow, and not by drawing it in a view's -(void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect method which requires to shrink the actual views frame to accomodate for the shadow. (This shrinking approach have been proposed in the other UIView drop shadow related questions I found here on SO). I was thinking a layered approach would be cleaner. For example I tried creating subclassing CALayer to which I added a separate shadow layer as a sublayer, but then that would be drawn on top of whatever was draw in the drawRect: method of the UIView that had the main layer as backing layer. I've also tried implementing the subclass CALayer's drawInContext: something like this, - (void)drawInContext:(CGContextRef)ctx { // code to draw shadow for a frame the size of the layer's frame [super drawInContext:ctx]; } But then the shadow is still clipped to the current clipping bounding box of the context, which seems to be the layers own frame. I also had some idea of redirecting the drawing of the main layer to a sublayer, which would be placed above another sublayer which had the shadow drawn onto it. Then I would probably get rid of the clipping and the shadow would be farthest away. But I couldn't really wrap my head around how I would do that, and it doesn't really feel like a clean approach. Any ideas on how to go about this? Just to make clear how my UIView drop shadow related question is different from the other ones I found here on SO; I do not want to shrink the actual drawing frame of a UIView to accomodate for a shadow. I want it to somehow be on a separate layer in the background, whithout beeing clipped.

• jQuery UI - addClass removeClass - CSS values are stuck

  Hi, I'm trying to do a simple animation. You show the div. It animates correctly. You hide the div. Correct. You show the div again. It shows but there is no animation. It is stuck at the value of when you first interrupted it. So somehow the interpolation CSS that is happening during [add|remove]Class is getting stuck there. The second time around, the [add|remove]Class is actually running, but the css it's setting from the class is getting ignored (I think being overshadowed). How can I fix this WITHOUT resorting to .animate and hard-coded style values? The whole point was to put the animation end point in a css class. • Best way for a remote web app to authenticate users in my current web app?

  So a bit of background, I'm working on an existing web application which has a set of users, who are able to log in via a traditional login screen with a user name and password, etc. Recently we've managed to score a client (who have their own Intranet site), who are wanting to be able to have their users log into their Intranet site, and then have their users click a link on their Intranet which redirects to our application and logs them into it automatically. I've had two suggestions on how to implement this so far: Create a URL which takes 2 parameters (which are "username" and "password") and have the Intranet site pass those parameters to us (our connection is via TLS so it's all encrypted). This would work fine, but it seems a little "hacky", and also means that the logins and passwords have to be the same on both systems (and having to write some kind of web service which can update the passwords for users - which also seems a bit insecure) Provide a token to the Intranet, so when the client clicks on a link on the Intranet, it sends the token to us, along with the user name (and no password) which means they're authenticated. Again, this sounds a bit hacky as isn't that essentially the same as providing everyone with the same password to log in? So to summarise, I'm after the following things: A way for the users who are already authenticated on the Intranet to log into our system without too much messing around, and without using an external system to authenticate, i.e. LDAP / Kerberos Something which isn't too specific to this client, and can easily be implemented by other Intranets to log in

• How do you display a list of images, from a folder on hard drive, on ASP.NET website?

  I am trying to make a simple photo gallery website. Using ASP.NET and C#. Right now I don't have a server set up but I am just using the development one that Visual Studio Starts when you make a website project and run it. I have a folder on my hard drive that contains an unknown number of images. I want to write a piece of code that will go through each image and add them to the default webpage. I have tried this code but it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong? Should I be using a ListView control or a DataView or something like that? Do I need to add a virtual directory in order to access the images? If so, how do I to that on this test server? ALSO, how do I set the position and alignment of these pictures? • Determine whether .NET assemblies were built from the same source

  Does anyone know of a way to compare two .NET assemblies to determine whether they were built from the "same" source files? I am aware that there are some differencing utilities available, such as the plugin for Reflector, but I am not interested in viewing differences in a GUI, I just want an automated way to compare a collection of binaries to see whether they were built from the same (or equivalent) source files. I understand that multiple different source files could produce the same IL, and realise that the process would only be sensitive to differences in the IL, not the original source. The main obstacle to just comparing the byte streams for the two assemblies is that .NET includes a field called "MVID" (Module Version Identifier) the assembly. This appears to have a different value for every compilation, so if you build the same code twice the assembly will be different. A related question is, does anyone know how to force the MVID to be the same for each compilation? This would avoid us needing to have a comparison process that is insensitive to differences in the value of the MVID. A consistent MVID would be preferable, as this means that standard checksums could be used. The background behind this is that a third-party company is responsible for independently reviewing and signing off our releases, prior to us being permitted to release to Production. This includes reviewing the source code. They want to independently confirm that the source code we give them matches the binaries that we earlier built, tested and currently plan to deploy. We are looking for a process that allows them to independently build the system from the source we supply them with, and the compare the checksums against the checksums for the binaries we have tested. thanks

• why does Integrated Windows Authentication fail when clients access off the network

  My background is not with web applications so this problem is hard for me to explain easily. First I'll try to describe the setup. Client setup:-Only browser that is effected is IE 6-8 (Firefox, chrome, opera, and safari all work fine) -A user will try to access our web application from a company laptop that is not connected to our network. -This machine will be a member of our workgroup and have the company DNS listed as a trusted intranet site. (to which the application in question would be a member) -The security logon mode is set to Automatic Logon only in intranet zone only, and IWA authentication is enabled on the clients browser.Server setup:-Windows server 2003 fp2-The application will first redirect to an Authorization asp page which has anonymous access disabled and IWA enabled in IIS.what should happen is that, since the client is not currently on the network, when this page is called it should prompt the user for network credentials. But with IE, instead of prompting, the user gets a page cannot be displayed error because the IIS manager is denying access to the asp page. If the company DNS is removed from the trusted intranet site list then it prompts correctly but disables single sign on the next time that computer is connected to the network or vpn. My assumption is that since IE uses IWA and the site is listed as an internal site, when no network is found IE just sends nulls to the server attempting to authenticate which is swiftly punted back. Other browsers do not have security zones so when network credentials are not present the server prompts for them. Is there a way to get around this so that our clients can keep the company DNS in the intranet zone but still have the server prompt for credentials when not on the network? Any attempt to allow for anonymous access on the asp page, as far as I know, will cause AUTH_USER to return null and again break SSO. I realize this is slightly rambling so I will do my best to clarify and questions you guys might have. Thanks in advance.

• Using Entity Framework with an SQL Compact Private Installation

  I am using Entity Framework 4 in a desktop application with SQL Compact. I want to use a private installation of SQL Compact with my application, so that my installer can install SQL Compact without giving the user a second installation to do. It also avoids versioning hassles down the road. My development machine has SQL Compact 3.5 SP1 installed as a public installation, so my app runs fine there, as one would expect. But it's not running on my test machine, which does not have SQL Compact installed. I get this error: The specified store provider cannot be found in the configuration, or is not valid. I know some people have had difficulty with SQL Compact private installations, but I have used them for a while, and I really like them. Unfortunately, my regular private installation approach isn't working. I have checked the version numbers on my SQL CE files, and they are all 3.8.8078.0, which is the SP2 RC version. Here are the files I have included in my private installation: sqlcecompact35.dll sqlceer35EN.dll sqlceme35.dll sqlceqp35.dll sqlcese35.dll System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll System.Data.SqlServerCe.Entity.dll I have added a reference to System.Data.SqlServerCe to my project, and I have verified that all of the files listed above are being copied to the application folder on the installation machine.   This question is more UI/Design-ish than hard-core programming is. Background: I've been coding in VIM/C++/OpenGL for a long time. I've come to realize that this (VIM/C++/OpenGL) isn't the way to learn about programming fancy/cool-looking/futuristic UIs; and that the design of such UIs belongs more so in the artistic/designer world of Flash. Anyway, I currently have a machine with MacOSX. What software should I install? What book should I read to learn about the artistic/design side of these futuristic UIs? [It's okay if the tools to design them are mouse clicking + graphical rather than coding based].   I have for some time build n-tier Applications using a database server as the data tier, Winforms as the presentation tier and an ASP.NET asmx webservice in the middle to send back and forth untyped Datasets. While this approach has worked for me so far, it certainly does feel outdated today. What technologies should I use if I were to create a similar architectured application today? .net 4.0 technology is welcome. I still want a database server as the datatier and the asmx webservices should probably be replaced by WCF. I would still like to have the presentation tier running as a desktop application (Winforms or WPF) so ignore ASP.net for this question. My main question really comes down to what to use as business objects. I want something that is easier to bind to the interface than untyped Datasets and strongly-typed datasets feels very heavy. I also need something that can track changes to make sure users do not override each other's changes in the database. Will the Entity Framework 4 be usable for a scenario like this? Are there any thorough guides available?

• Android - Views in Custom Compound Component are not inflated (findByView returns null)

• JPA/JDO entity to XML XSD generator.

  I am using JDO or JPA on GAE plugin in Eclipse. I am using smartgwt datasource, accepting an xsd. I would like to be educated how to generate an XSD from my jdo/jpa entity, vice versa. Is there a tool to do it? While datanucleas does all its magic enhancing in the Eclipse background, would I be able to somehow operate in a mode that would generate XSDs for me? Can Hibernate operate in an offline mode, to solely help me generate XSDs which I could use in GWT without deploying hibernate with my web-app? Can Hibernate even be capable of generating XSDs from entities, vice versa? Currently, I am about to write a utility to generate an xsd, given an entity class - but I am hoping I don't have to reinvent the wheel if it already exists. I am hoping people here could educate me on any available tools to ease my XSD generation. But btw, I am very wary of anything that uses Maven, because most people (like Spring) who write the Maven scripts and pom don't have the expertise to write it in a way that would spew out messages and verbosity appropriately to make it easy for me to locate model errors.

• Open mails in outlook from java using the protocol "mapi://"

  I developp a Java application using Windows Desktop Search from which I can retrieve some information about files on my computer such as urls (System.ItemUrl). An example of such url is file://c:/users/ausername/documents/aninterestingfile.txt for "normal" files. This field give also urls of mail items indexed from Outlook or Thunderbird. Thunderbird's items (only available using vista and seven) are also files (.wdseml). But outlook's items urls start with "mapi://" like : mapi://{S-1-5-21-1626573300-1364474481-487586288-1001}/[email protected]($b423dcd5)/0/Inbox/???????????????????????? The problem I have is opening the real item from Java in Outlook using this url. If I copy/paste it in the run dialog of Windows, it works ; it also works if I use "start" followed by the copied/pasted url in command line. The url seems to be encoded in UTF-16. I want to be able to write such code : String url = "mapi://{S-1-5-21-1626573300-1364474481-487586288-1001}/[email protected]($b423dcd5)/0/Inbox/????????????????????????"; Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd.exe /C start " + url); I doesn't work and I've tried other solutions like : String start = "start"; String url = "mapi://{S-1-5-21-1626573300-1364474481-487586288-1001}/[email protected]($b423dcd5)/0/Inbox/????????????????????????"; FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(new File("test.bat"); fos.write(start.getBytes("UTF16"); fos.write(url.getBytes("UTF16")); fos.close(); Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd.exe /C test.bat"); without any success. Using the solution above, the file "test.bat" contains the correct url and the "start" command, but the run of "test.bat" results in the well known error message : '¦' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Has anybody an idea to be able to open "mapi://" items from Java ?

• Programmatic skins in Flex

  Hi, I am having 2 problems creating programmatic skin for Canvas. First problem: I would like to have background with rounded corners and I am using GraphicsUtil.drawRoundRectComplex in order to have round corners for only the upper two corners. The problem is that drawRoundRectComplex takes for each corner one single parameter - the corner radius. However my scaleX and scaleY factors are different and in fact the corners are not properly rounded because I either can set the radius using scaleX or scaleY. Graphics.drawRoundRect is better because it takes two parameters for the corners - elipse width and height and then you could apply both scale factors but it doesn't allow me to specify different radius for different corners. I am looking for an idea how to use GraphicsUtil.drawRoundRectComplex when scaleX and scaleY are different. Second problem: Even though I set my programmatic skin through style - < the skin's updateDisplayList gets executed only once and after that somehow "backgroundImage" style gets "undefined" and my programmatic skin is not associated anymore to the Canvas instance. As a workaround I am setting on each resize event "backgroundImage" style again but this is ugly. What could cause such "silent" resetting of the "backgroundImage" style to undefined? Thanks!

• WPF: Animation Only Runs Once

  Very basic (I think) animation question. My animation only runs the first time "MyProp" gets set to false. If it gets set a second time, the animation doesn't run. I know my data trigger is getting hit, as the sound DOES play. The effect I want is for the animation to run, then reset the target property back to what it was before the animation occurred (thus the FillBehavior=Stop).
