• .NET Neural Network or AI for Future Predictions

  Hi All. I am looking for some kind of intelligent (I was thinking AI or Neural network) library that I can feed a list of historical data and this will predict the next sequence of outputs. As an example I would like to feed the library the following figures 1,2,3,4,5 and based on this, it should predict the next sequence is 6,7,8,9,10 etc. The inputs will be a lot more complex and contain much more information. This will be used in a C# application. If you have any recommendations or warning that will be great. Thanks

• Linq To SQL: Retain list order when using .Contains

  I'm using Lucene.net to build a MyListOfIds As List(Of Integer) which I then pass on to my Linq service. I then search the database as follows Return _EventRepository.Read().Where(Function(e) MyListOfIds.Contains(e.ID)).ToList Now I know that Lucene is already ordering MyListOfIds based on the weight it gave each term. What sucks is that Linq is losing that order in it's SQL search. My Question: How can I retain that sort order when building my Lambda expression? I tried using LINQPad to see how the query is being built, but because I had to declare a variable LINQPad didn't show me the resultant SQL :-( Here's what I tried in LINQPad Dim i As New List(Of Integer) i.Add(1) i.Add(100) i.Add(15) i.Add(3) i.Add(123) Dim r = (From e In Events Where i.Contains(e.ID) Select e) note: my example is in VB.NET, but I don't mind if responses are in C#

• Solving the problem of finding parts which work well with each other

  Hi, I have a database of items. They are for cars and similar parts (eg cam/pistons) work better than others in different combinations (eg one product will work well with another, while another combination of 2 parts may not). There are so many possible permutations, what solutions apply to this problem? So far, I feel that these are possible approaches (Where I have question marks, something tells me these are solutions but I am not 100% confident they are). Neural networks (?) Collection-based approach (selection of parts in a collection for cam, and likewise for pistons in another collection, all work well with each other) Business rules engine (?) What are good ways to tackle this sort of problem? Thanks

• Connecting to Sharepoint using HttpClient

  I am trying to connect to a Sharepoint 2007 using HttpClient 4. The Authentication scheme is NTLM and i wrote an implementation based on this (http://hc.apache.org/httpcomponents-client-ga/ntlm.html). When i try to connect supplying NTCredentials (username,password,host & domain), i get a 500 error saying "The requested function is not supported". I am trying to understand this error. Does anyone know what this error is? and Why is this occuring? Thanks

• Winforms - How to allow user to increase font size of listview with hidden controls?

  I am creating an winform application that will run on a tablet PC. One form for this app will have a listview control. I would like to allow the user to change the font size based on preference (ie did they remember their glasses today). A few ways that I can think of would be a numeric-up-down or +/- button controls. Both of these ways require screen real estate that is very limited. Is there a control or technique that would allow font size changes with a hidden-when-not-used control?

Site administrators will need both common tools (member admin, password changes, etc.) and custom tools that can be readily developed or integrated with 3rd party solutions. What frameworks should we be looking at? PHP/MySQL is preferable unless something really outstanding is available in another stack.

• T-SQL stored procedure to return google style "suggested" search results

  Ok, using SQL Server 2008. On my web page I have a textbox with jQuery-UI AutoComplete hooked up. Now I need a stored procedure to search across all columns of a single table(or multiple joined tables I suppose) for a search string coming from the textbox/autocomplete AJAX call, and return "suggested" search strings. I am using the AdventureWorks db for testing(Products table) So for example, the product table has columns for product name and product number(among others) and I want to return suggested search strings based on user input where they may enter a product name and/or a product number. I have it working across a single column which was simple. Any ideas?

  Hi everyone, We're working with a new codeigniter based application that are cross referencing different PHP functions forwards and backwards from various libraries, models and such. We're running PHP5 on the server and we try to find a good way for managing errors and status reports that arises from the usage of our functions. While using return in functions, the execution is ended, so nothing more can be sent back. Right? What's the best practice to send a status information or error code upon ending execution of actual function? • Why does Java return a date in GMT-4.5 when choosing Co-ordinated Universal Time time zone in Window

  We have seen a strange issue on some Windows XP machines involving the "Co-ordinated Universal Time" time zone. Not all Windows XP machines seem to have it, but on those that do, the following simple Java program public class TimeTest { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println(java.util.TimeZone.getDefault()); System.out.println(new java.util.Date()); } } on JDK 1.6.0_06 prints: sun.util.calendar.ZoneInfo[id="America/Caracas",offset=-16200000,dstSavings=0,useDaylight=false,transitions=5,lastRule=null] Fri Nov 13 05:34:14 VET 2009 (i.e. 4 and a half hours behind GMT). I should add that I am based in London, and have never been to South America. :-) My questions are: Where does Java get this time zone from? I thought Co-ordinated Universal Time was supposed to be the new name for GMT. Why do some Windows machines have this time zone but not others?

• Infinite recursion trying to check all elements of a TreeCtrl

  I have a TreeCtrl in which more than one Item can be assigned the same object as PyData. When the object is updated, I want to update all of the items in the tree which have that object as their PyData. I thought the following code would solve the problem quite neatly, but for some reason the logical test (current != self.GetFirstVisibleItem()) always returns true leading to infinite recursion.   I'm using this function to create an transparent overlay of information over the current div for a web-based mobile app. Background: using jQTouch, so I have separate divs, not individual pages loading new. $(document).ready(function() { $('.infoBtn').click(function() { $('#overlay').toggleFade(400); return false; }); }); Understanding that JS will run sequentially when i click the button on the first div the function works fine. When I go to the next div if I click the same button nothing "happens" when this div is displayed, but if i go back to the first div it has actually triggered it on this page. So I logically duplicated the function and changed the CSS selector names and it works for both. But do I have to do this for each use? Is there a way to use the same selectors, but load the different content in each variation?

• What scripting language would you use to put text over a generated image ?

  I got this question from my cousin: "What will be the best way to create a similar working website just like: http://www.plakletters.nl". I have looked into the website and think that to start of with i'm gonna help my cousin write a script that loads all fonts installed on the system into a dropdownlist. This dropdownlist will post a font value back to the page and will create images with the input of a user that comes from a textbox. This images will have to be created server side, and I also want to give the users the ability (in the future) to lay their own text over an uploaded image, to see what the result will look like on their own image. I found some information about how to create images using php, I don't know if php can output a list of installed fonts from the system it's running on. What scripting language would you use to get this job done? Keep in mind i would just like to start with outputting some images based on user input using a scripting language.

I dread having to deal with HTML, JavaScript etc. to build a high quality browser based user interface. I've got the full suite of Telerik controls. Is it possible to build a polished, somewhat feature rich browser UI while being sheltered from the archaic environment of HTML and JavaScript? I'd love to be able to simply drag-drop components, much like building a Win UI and have the exact HTML, JavaScript code created for me. Thanks!

• How much effort does it take to spoof an Ip Address in a call to a webservice?

  I don't want to know how... Just how complicated.... I'm thinking of securing a webservice or 2 based on the incoming client ipaddress of the caller. Is this in any way secure? Surely if the IPaddress was being spoofed then the result would have to be sent back to the address that was being spoofed and therefore not reach the spoofer? Update: Ok so from what I can tell.... I should create a Gettoken() method which checks the IPaddress and passes out a cryptographically significant token with a timeout to any valid IP address. This is then required by any other method before any kind of side effect is allowed. Since an Attacker can't (likely) get the token without having a valid IP, he will be unable to validly call any of my "dangerous" webmethods ?

The poblem that I am facing is that self.view is not available there and I don't know why because I am learning and I don't know enough to understand what I am missing. What do I have to do/add/change to have the actionsheet shown in my current view even if that code lives somewhere else?

• Are MongoDB and CouchDB perfect substitutes?

  I haven't got my hands dirty yet with neither CouchDB nor MongoDB but I would like to do so soon... I also have read a bit about both systems and it looks to me like they cover the same cases... Or am I missing a key distinguishing feature? I would like to use a document based storage instead of a traditional RDBMS in my next project. I also need the datastore to handle large binary objects (images and videos) automatically replicate itself to physically separate nodes rendering the need of an additional RDBMS superfluous Are both equally well suited for these requirements? Out of these settings, a few will be used in master page, few on my Page and few in my user control (say login control which is a web user control). I've an entity class MySetting for it and there is a method in my data access layer which returns me an instance of MySetting when I pass the value I got in query string. I don't want to fetch settings from the database multiple times for one request. I'm using asp.net web forms with C# and sql server.

• Automating builds from subversion tags

  I'm trying to automate the build process for engineering group. As part of that automation, I'm trying to get to a point where the act of applying a specific tag that adheres to a pattern will kick off an automated process that will do the following: Check out source code Create a build script from a template Build the project I'm pretty certain I could do this with a post-hook in subversion, but I'm trying to figure out a way to do this with something other than a subversion hook. Would it make sense to monitor the tags directory in the subversion repository to kick off my workflow? Are there any decent tools that help with this (.NET would be great if possible). Am I better off just writing an engine to do this? My preferences: Existing product that does all or part of this If development work needs to occur, .NET is preferable Works with Windows (we've got a Linux based repo, but builds all occur on windows)

• Has anyone ever bought an "Internet Connection" license for WSS 3.0?

  I would like to run a WSS 3.0 that is exposed to the internet and provides access to an arbitrary number of users through forms-based authentication. If the WSS licensing is analogous to that of MOSS, then there should be some special licensing required to make this legitimate. I have seen several vague statements on the internet about an "Internet Connection" license for WSS 3.0, and some more general statements from Mike Walsh to the effect that it costs "around $2000." But I have never seen anything official about this, and I'm not sure if I am even using the correct terminology. Has anyone actually purchased something resembling this license?

• How do I use an enum with custom values for a Sharepoint Web part?

  I'm trying to design a Web Part that has a drop-down list for the user to choose from. Eventually, these values will be automatically generated based on some kind of outside data source, so they're going to have somewhat arbitrary numeric values associated with them. This is the code I have now: public enum filterChoice { All=0, BOCC=12, Sustainability=15, Clerk=4, DA=13, Emergency=7, Highlights=3, POS=6, PR=1, PH=5, SHPR=2, Test=8, Transportation=14, Volunteer=16 }; These are different categories I want the user to choose from. When I choose one and save the settings for my Web Part, Sharepoint is only saving the values in numeric order; that is, All=0, BOCC=1, Sustainability=3 [...] so my Web Part then thinks the user chose the value with the corresponding number (PR when they chose BOCC, Highlights when they chose Sustainability, etc.) How can I make Sharepoint honor my custom values?

• How can an Android Service know that its not bound to any Activities

  I have an Android Service that I would like to keep running even after the last Activity has been popped off the stack, or the User has chosen to do something else. Essentially the Service is listening for changes on a remote server, and I would like to generate a Notification if and only if an Activity from the app isn't running(or visible). In other words, I don't want the Notifications to occur while the User is directly interacting with the app. In the case where the User is directly interacting with the app, the Service will notify the Activity and update appropriate UI elements based on the changes. I plan to implement this through the Observer pattern. How can the Service know if none of apps Activities are bound to it? Thanks, J

• Membership systems for MVC4 that support RavenDB

  I create a lot of quick "proof of concept" MVC apps and I actually found the SimpleMembership provider that shipped with the MVC4 templates to be very handy since it gets me up and running with user registration & OAuth in a matter of minutes. But...I've started to use RavenDb (on RavenHQ for a lot for my projects). So, I starting trying to implement my own "custom membership provider" based on the ExtendedMembershipProvider and while doing that I realized that didn't make much sense. I later stumbled upon 2 interesting projects that try to solve this exact problem: WorldDomination.Web.Auth: https://github.com/PureKrome/WorldDomination.Web.Authentication MemFlex: https://github.com/OdeToCode/Memflex Both are pretty interesting recent efforts and was wondering if these are the only ones being built right now.   Hi, I need to know what can be the main reasons (apart from the basics like grouping CSS selectors, reducing image size, using image sprite etc.) which makes a website slow on Internet Explorer, because my website works fine on the others like FF, chrome etc. Is it the huge use of Javascript framework (ie. jQuery, extjs, prototype)? Is it because of the use of plugins based on JS framework? Should I use core javascript and remove the use of any js framework? Should I try to avoid using jQuery(document).ready()? in case of jQuery framework? Above some of the questions which I know and please answer the questions which I couldn't ask because of lesser knowledge about these. I need to make my website perform well on IE (6,7,8) also please suggest. Thanks
