  • Ubuntu 12.04 LTS vs Ubuntu 14.04 LTS memory usage

    - by geoffroy
My droplet has 512 MB memory and is running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bits and a Rails 4 application + several workers. It's running well. I tried to deploy the same thing on a Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64 bits droplet and I've got plenty of memory related problem (can't fork). Is Ubuntu 14.04 LTS using way more RAM than Ubuntu 12.04 LTS? Is there something I should know to lower memory usage ? Should I stick with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS?

  • How do I install informix odbc on windows server 2003/2008?

    - by zombiegx
I installed the informix client sdk on my pc (32 bit) and on the server, I could create an odbc connection on my pc easily, but on both windows 2003 and 2008 (64 bit) I can't. I don't know if there is a 64 bit sdk, maybe this is the issue. But I haven't found what to do. I need to use odbc since using the sdk by itself hangs IIS, and according to this post http://forums.asp.net/p/1269896/2425034.aspx#2425034 the solution is to use odbc. thanks

I am concern about windows services and shortcuts with the sandbox. Current OS : Windows 7 64-bit

  • Kill overscan for ATI drivers?

    - by joeforker
I have a dual-boot Windows 7 64 bit/Linux 64 bit machine that uses ATI's Catalyst drivers. Sometimes I attach it to a 1080p LCD TV over HDMI. ATI is daft enough to provide a border to account for overscan. I'm using an LCD TV. No overscan, or it looks like crap because the pixel mapping is not 1:1. How do I disable this driver "feature" in Windows? in Linux?

    - by Jestep
I have some failing RAM in a server and I ran dmidecode to figure out what tyoe of RAM I needed to replace it with. The server has 6 RAM slots, 4 of which are in use. When I run dmidecode this is what I get. dmidecode 2.10 SMBIOS 2.4 present. • What do you use for a RAM disk on Windows Server?

    - by thelsdj
We currently use AR Soft RAM Disk on some Windows 2003 servers for storing short lived temporary files. Looking forward to a move to 64-bit Windows Server 2008 I'm wondering what options there are for a RAM disk since it appears AR Soft RAM Disk was discontinued in 2005. I'm not looking for any physical disk backing, just a pure RAM disk that appears like a normal drive to Windows. Does anyone have any experience with RAM disks on Windows Server 2008, especially for 64-bit?

  • Where is all the memory being consumed?

    - by Mark L
Hello, I have a Dell R300 Ubuntu 9.10 box with 4GB of memory. All I'm running on there is haproxy, nagios and postfix yet there is ~2.7GB of memory being consumed. I've run ps and I can't get the sums to add up. Could anyone shed any light on where all the memory is being used? • USB Flash not recognised by Windows and BIOS, but works fine in Linux

    - by bbalegere
I have a Transcend JetFLash 2GB USB Drive. It was working fine and I had been using it occasionally. All of sudden it stopped working in all versions of Windows . The USB Drive is also not recognised by the BIOS.It does not show in the list of bootable devices.(It used show up in the list earlier) However the USB Drive works fine in my Linux Mint 11 OS. Running dmesg gives this [ 941.812192] usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4 [ 941.936178] usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 942.164188] usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 942.380189] usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5 [ 942.504138] usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 942.732179] usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 942.948154] usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6 [ 943.364134] usb 1-2: device not accepting address 6, error -71 [ 943.476172] usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7 [ 943.892140] usb 1-2: device not accepting address 7, error -71 [ 943.892191] hub 1-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 2 [ 944.296190] usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3 [ 944.438251] usb 2-2: not running at top speed; connect to a high speed hub [ 944.709928] usbcore: registered new interface driver uas [ 944.729999] Initializing USB Mass Storage driver... • Ubuntu with KVM guest VM and broken bridges

    - by MadPsy
I have an Ubuntu box with a KVM guest VM running. They use bridging so the guest VM attaches to the physical network of its host. The guest VM has 2 NICs in 2 different bridges. First NIC of the VM is tap5 and is in bridge br0 br0 8000.46720f5c572e no eth0.500 tap5 Second NIC of the VM is tap2 and is in bridge br100 br100 8000.76ad2fc96661 no eth0.100 eth0.101 eth0.103 eth0.104 eth0.105 tap2 On the host, br0 has an IP and br100 does not 21: br0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state UP link/ether 46:72:0f:5c:57:2e brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet 192.168.100.4/24 brd 192.168.10.255 scope global br0 inet6 fe80::d6ae:52ff:febe:777/64 scope link valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever On the guest, its eth0 and eth1 interfaces both have IP addresses 2: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP qlen 1000 link/ether 00:3e:61:fb:7a:da brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet 192.168.100.6/24 brd 192.168.100.255 scope global eth0 inet6 fe80::23e:61ff:fefb:7ada/64 scope link valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever 3: eth1: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP qlen 1000 link/ether 00:3e:61:fb:7a:ea brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet 172.16.50.129/25 brd 172.16.50.255 scope global eth1 inet6 fe80::23e:61ff:fefb:7aea/64 scope link valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever On the guest VM, a tcpdump of its eth1 interface (tap2) shows traffic from its eth0 interface (tap5), as if the 2 bridges are themselves bridged. This means any interface on br100 is now bridged across to br0 - which is completely broken. root@chillispot:~# tcpdump -c 1 -n -v -i eth1 net 192.168.100.0/24 tcpdump: listening on eth1, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 65535 bytes 16:31:24.175583 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 48054, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 148) 192.168.100.6.22 > 192.168.100.4.59505: Flags [P.], cksum 0x6c2b (correct), seq 1056321648:1056321744, ack 398642983, win 1700, options [nop, nop,TS val 197473436 ecr 200655363], length 96 What could be bridging the 2 bridges, except the guest VM (which is a stock Ubuntu install)? I am at a complete loss! Thanks.

  • eAccelerator settings for PHP/Centos/Apache

    - by bobbyh
I have eAccelerator installed on a server running Wordpress using PHP/Apache on CentOS. I am occassionally getting persistent "white pages", which presumably are PHP Fatal Errors (although these errors don't appear in my error_log). These "white pages" are sprinkled here and there throughout the site. They persist until I go to my eAccelerator control.php page and clear/clean/purge my caches, which suggests to me that I've configured eAccelerator improperly. Here are my current /etc/php.ini settings: memory_limit = 128M; eaccelerator.shm_size="64", where shm.size is "the amount of shared memory eAccelerator should allocate to cache PHP scripts" (see http://eaccelerator.net/wiki/Settings) eaccelerator.shm_max="0", where shm_max is "the maximum size a user can put in shared memory with functions like eaccelerator_put ... The default value is "0" which disables the limit" eaccelerator.shm_ttl="0" - "When eAccelerator doesn't have enough free shared memory to cache a new script it will remove all scripts from shared memory cache that haven't been accessed in at least shm_ttl seconds. By default this value is set to "0" which means that eAccelerator won't try to remove any old scripts from shared memory." eaccelerator.shm_prune_period="0" - "When eAccelerator doesn't have enough free shared memory to cache a script it tries to remove old scripts if the previous try was made more then "shm_prune_period" seconds ago. Default value is "0" which means that eAccelerator won't try to remove any old script from shared memory." eaccelerator.keys = "shm_only" - "These settings control the places eAccelerator may cache user content. ... 'shm_only' cache[s] data in shared memory" On my phpinfo page, it says: memory_limit 128M Version 0.9.5.3 and Caching Enabled true On my eAccelerator control.php page, it says 64 MB of total RAM available Memory usage 77.70% (49.73MB/ 64.00MB) 27.6 MB is used by cached scripts in the PHP opcode cache (I added up the file sizes myself) 22.1 MB is used by the cache keys, which is populated by the Wordpress object cache. My questions are: Is it true that there is only 36.4 MB of room in the eAccelerator cache for total "cache keys" (64 MB of total RAM minus whatever is taken by cached scripts, which is 27.6 MB at the moment)? What happens if my app tries to write more than 22.1 MB of cache keys to the eAccelerator memory cache? Does this cause eAccelerator to go crazy, like I've seen? If I change eaccelerator.shm_max to be equal to (say) 32 MB, would that avoid this problem? Do I also need to change shm_ttl and shm_prune_period to make eAccelerator respect the MB limit set by shm_max? Thanks! :-)

  • What causes Windows 8 Consumer Preview to lock-up / freeze / hang in Oracle VM VirtualBox?

    - by Zack Peterson
I've installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview to a virtual machine using Oracle VM VirtualBox (4.1.14). It works well except for occasional temporary lock-up / freeze / hang interruptions. It will freeze for about a minute and then resume like normal for several more minutes before freezing again. - by nos
Has anyone managed to install Virtualbox on Windows 7 64 bit ? While virtual box installs on win7 32 bit, the installer eventually fails under win7 64-bit - are there any tricks I need to be aware of ? I'm already running the installer as Administrator. The installer stops at this point for about 3-4 minutes And eventually fails with EDIT - added another image.

  • Windows 7 dual boots after upgrade

I was running Vista 64, I installed (not upgraded, fresh install) Windows 7 64 bit on the same partition, but since then it's been bringing up a dual boot menu asking if I want to boot to 7 or Vista. Any way to get rid of that, I'm really not interested in rolling back.

  • How long does a typical Windows 7 64bit installation take?

    - by Borek
On a machine with Intel Core-i5 or i7 and a standard HDD, how long should an installation of Windows 7 64 bit roughly take? I'm after a rough estimate because my installation seems to be running quite slowly (previously, I've installed Win7 32bit on a laptop and it went much quicker but maybe there are differences between 32 and 64 bit editions).

  • Why is the server performance so poor? What can be done to improve the speed of the server?

    - by fslsyed
Very slow processing using Windows Server2008 R2 Standard with Service Pack One. Situation: Read a text file using the text data to populate a series of MS Sql tables. The converted data is used to generate monthly PDF invoice files; the PDF files are saved directly to the hard drive. The application is multi-threading with one thread used for the text conversion and three threads for PDF invoice generation. The text conversion is occurring concurrently with the invoice generation. Application Software: C# using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate. Crystal Report Writer 2011 with runtime 13_0_3 64 bit version. Targeted platform is x64; also tested as x86, and Any CPU with similar results. Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. Microsoft Sql 2008 Issue: The software is running very slowly. The conversion of the text file is approximately six hundred fifty records per second and generation of the PDF files is approximately twelve invoices per minute. The text file to be converted is six hundred Meg with seven thousand invoices to be generated. The software was installed on three different machines from the same distribution files. The same text file was converted on each machine. The user executing the application was an administrator on each machine. The only variances were the machine and operating system. The configurations are as follows: Server: Operating System: Windows Server2008 R2 Standard 64-bit (6.1, Build7601) SP1 Service Pack: System Manufacturer: IBM System Model: System x3550 M3-[7944AC1]- BIOS: Default System BIOS Processor: Intel® Xeon® CPU E5620@ 2.4GHz (16 CPUs) Memory: 16384MB Notebook: Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium Standard 64-bit (6.1, Build7601) System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard System Model: HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC BIOS: Default System BIOS Processor: AMD Phenom II N640 Dual-Core Processor 2.9GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 6144MB Desktop: Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build7601) SP1 System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
