• Best current framework for unit testing EJB3 / JPA

  Starting new project using EJB 3 / JPA, mainly stateless session beans and batch jobs. I've used JUnit in the past on standard Java webapps and it seemed to work pretty well. In EJB2 unit testing was a pain and required a running container such as JBoss to make the calls into. Now that we're going to be working in EJB3 / JPA I'd like to know what companies are using to write and run these tests. Are Junit and JMock still considered relevant or are there other newer frameworks that have come around that we should investigate?

How do I create Visual Studio project templates in either CruiseControl.Net or with MSBuild? The build server does not have Visual Studio 2010 installed. Thanks for your time! • XML-RPC with PHP and GoDaddy? Confusion sets in.

  Hey folks, I am attempting to work with XML-RPC via PHP on a GoDaddy server. This same server is hosting a Wordpress Blog that makes use of XML-RPC and is functioning, though that may be unrelated... Whenever I attempt to use any functions that are integrated into PHP for use with XML-RPC, I get an error (function list here: http://us3.php.net/manual/en/ref.xmlrpc.php) e.g.: Fatal error: Class 'xmlrpc_client' not found Is this because XML-RPC's PHP functions are not enabled on my server? If so, how do I go about enabling those - it would seem I would have to install the XML-RPC library to do so and of course I cannot do that on a shared server. Doesn't Wordpress use the same batch of XML-RPC functions though (it works fine)? I think I have managed to thoroughly confuse myself. I have zero experience with XML-RPC.

I tried scheduling notepad.exe and in the logs, I see the following line - org.quartz.jobs.NativeJob runNativeCommand About to runcmd.exe /C c:/WINDOWS/notepad.exe ... But the notepad is not coming up. Same is the issue with any exe or batch file. I also see the notepad.exe as a running process in Task Manager. • Watir with IronRuby!

  Has anyone used Watir with IronRuby successfully? I am getting an error that the required file 'Watir' was not found. What path do I need to set to get this file to work in IronRuby? For some reason my igem command is not working: C:\DevTools\IronRuby\ironruby\Merlin\Main\Languages\Ruby\Scripts\binigem instal l watir '"C:\DevTools\IronRuby\ironruby\Merlin\Main\Languages\Ruby\Scripts\bin\ir.exe"' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I am using 0.9 version of Ironruby. I remember that in 0.9 you have to indicate the ir tool: I used the following and got the error again! • How to do this GQL query in JDO

  I have about 50k entities stored in appengine. I am able to look up an individual record via the GQL admin interface with a query like: SELECT * FROM Pet where __key__ = KEY( 'Pet','Fido') But I'm having trouble figuring out how to do a batch version of this via JDO. Right now I have this: PersistenceManager pm = ...; for(Pet pet : pets) { for(String k : getAllAliases(pet)) { keys.add(KeyFactory.createKeyString(Pet.class.getSimpleName(), k)); } } Query q = pm.newQuery("select from " + Pet.class.getName() + " where id == :keys"); List<Pet> petlist = (List<Pet>) q.execute(keys); But though 'Fido' works in the GQL case, it returns nothing when I use that Java + JDO code. What am I doing wrong?

• Splitting android application in to two 'branches', free and paid.

  I've developed an android-application that I'dd like to put up on the marketplace. However, I want to split it into two separate applications, one free (with ads), and one paid (logically without ads). How would I go about doing that? I'm not wondering about adding ads (I've alreaddy managed that), but how to take one existing android-application (eclipse-project) and split it into two without having to create a new project and just copy-paste every file one by one (or in batch for that matter). Is that possible? Btw, I use GIT for SCM, so I've made two separate branches, one master and one free, but I need to set some cind of config-value that makes shure that the market separates them as two different applications. Also, when a user 'upgrades', is it possible to copy the db from the free app to the paid one?

• Apache Ant Build command "Access Denied"

  Hey! I am trying to get ant installed and actually already did following this instructions however, I get this error: Buildfile: build.xml does not exist! Build failed which it says there I might get so I just tried executing the next command it says I should(since I'm under Windows it's this one): build -Ddist.dir=<C:\Ant> dist anyway I get "access denied" when hitting enter and I can't figure out why. I also tried build install and build install-lite but I always get that message =/ any ideas why? or what am I doing wrong? Edit Without the < I get a: 'build' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Edit2 Well, my ANT_HOME is in C:\Ant and I'm trying to run the command while placing myself on that folder, isn't that correct?

• How do I sign exes and dlls with my code signing certificate

  (I purchased a code signing cert from Thawte and have been going out of my mind with frustration at the whole process. What I have from them are: .spc / .p7b file .pvk file (NOTE I do not have a pfx file from them. God knows why, but I have been fighting with their tech support for a week) In any case I find "help" links on their site and at MS for signcode.exe which is useless for me because I can't find that exe on my machine, however I do have signtool.exe. Unfortunately i am mystified at the command line parameters listed on this MS help site. Specifically, what parameters do I use and what values? I tried what I thought was obvious but it does not work at all. I can get the signing wizard to work, however I need this to work non-interactively in a hudson CI batch file. It really doesn't seem like it should be this difficult, but so far it is all black magic. thanks for any help

• Trapping Error Status in MSBuild

  As part of some build automation of running xUnit.net tests with MSBuild, I'm running into a case where I need to loop over a batch of items. Inside the loop, I need to detect whether an iteration failed, but I want to continue executing regardless. Then after the batched bit, I need to know whether one or more errors have occurred in order to report the outcome to TeamBuild. IOW, in pseudocode: Task Name=RunTests CreateItems ForEach item CallTarget Target=RunTest ContinueOnError=true CombineNUnitResults Report success/failure Task Name=RunTest XUnit item I'm hoping this can be achieved without a custom task (or hacking the xunit.net MSBuild task as Jonne did). • Can someone explain ORA-29861 error in plain english and its possible cause?

  I have an application implemented in Grails framework using underlying Hibernate. After it runs for a while, I got an Oracle DB error and resolved it by rebuilding the offending index. I wonder if anyone can propose the possible cause(s) and ways to prevent it from happening. • Alternative to distributed caching

  Hi, There is a technical requirement to scale a new system easily. This new system consists of three tiered applications (as a batch processors). Each tier will contains at least 2 servers with the same application resides on each server. So, when one of the tier reaches peak performance, we could extend the scalability easily by adding a new server and the same application to off-load some of the processing loads. The problem is that one or two of the three tiers require heavy caching (about 3 million records and increasing). I'm thinking of using distributed caching system to overcome this problem but the new distributed caching system will means an additional point of failure as applications now need to interact with additional caching systems for processing. I'm currently looking at ncache but just wondering if there is an alternatives to this problem? or is there any other comparable distributed caching system that maybe similar or better than ncache and provide enterprise supports too? • onload Event in embedded SVG not calling function in attached script. Scope Issue?

  Hi So I've got an XHTML page with a script - not inline > <script type="text/javascript" > src="../global/js/scripts.js"></script> and an embedded (I tried embed and object, same behavior) SVG document with a onload="CheckIfLoaded(evt)" attribute. The problem is firefox doesn't call the CheckIfLoaded() function in scripts.js. Firebug gives me "CheckIfLoaded() is not defined" with no reference to any line numbers. I can't find any information regarding the scope of javascript functions with respect to embedded content. Curiously, it works fine in IE. I could of course add a reference to the script into the SVG file as well but I believe that will result in the client downloading the scripts file twice and in addition I have 1000+ svg files and I'd really rather not add one line to all of them, although I suppose I could write a batch file or whatever if I have to. I used to have a Windows/Dos batch file in order to launch Mencoder with the right set of parameters, without having to type them each time. Things got messy when I tried to improve my script, and I decided that it would be a good opportunity to try coding something in python. • Parsing C#, finding methods and putting try/catch to all methods

  I know it sounds weird but I am required to put a wrapping try catch block to every method to catch all exceptions. We have thousands of methods and I need to do it in an automated way. What do you suggest? I am planning to parse all cs files and detect methods and insert a try catch block with an application. • Best way to produce automated exports in tab-delimited form from Teradata?

  I would like to be able to produce a file by running a command or batch which basically exports a table or view (SELECT * FROM tbl), in text form (default conversions to text for dates, numbers, etc are fine), tab-delimited, with NULLs being converted to empty field (i.e. a NULL colum would have no space between tab characters, with appropriate line termination (CRLF or Windows), preferably also with column headings. This is the same export I can get in SQL Assistant 12.0, but choosing the export option, using tab delimiter, setting my NULL value to '' and including column headings. I have been unable to find the right combination of options - the closest I have gotten is by building a single column with CAST and '09'XC, but the rows still have a leading 2-byte length indicator in most settings I have tried. I would prefer not to have to build large strings for the various different tables.

• Resources to learn sh scripting 'just like a normal programming language'

  Hi, what is the best resource (book would be nice) to learn sh scripting (the "standard" shell on Unix systems) just like when i would learn a "normal" programming/scripting language ? There are lots of tutorials on certain aspects of shell scripting, they mostly deal with shells in general and unix commands and so on, but i would rather like to find a more general approach - meaning a quick syntactic overview and an outlook on how to do things you normally do when programming, like implementing small algorithms and so on. Doing actual scripting, not just a structured batch file. And rather 100-liners than 1-to-3-liners. Can you recommend a good standard book on the topic ?

  i hope i'm just doing something wrong here. Ideally i'm trying to open the connection, open a transaction execute a ton of prebuilt sqlstatements (with parameters) against this connection then close the connection. ideally all in the same batch. It's easy enough to wrap this all in a for loop, however i'd like to use the forEach function of the list generic to set the connection as it'll probably be faster than my implementation of calling List.Item(i) in the loop but i get some strange errors. • How to add flags to RC.EXE through QMake .pro makefiles

  I've the following definition in my .pro file: RC_FILE = app.rc This RC file contains a global include at the top: #include "version_info.h" The version_info.h header is on a common header files directory. Since RC.EXE takes INCLUDE environment variable in consideration, according to MS documentation, my build process batch sets up that accordingly: SET INCLUDE=%PROJECTDIR%\version;%INCLUDE% ... QMAKE project.pro -spec win32-msvc2008 -r CONFIG += release This works perfect as RC seems to read that INCLUDE var so the "version_info.h" file is including on every RC file properly. The problem is when I generate a VS solution (or Import it through the VS Addin). The RC invocation does not contain any /I flag (as I expect) but does not read any INCLUDE variable, even when I've setup through system 'environment variables' dialog in XP. So I'm stuck with this problem, with two alternatives I could not get to work: Make VS RC.exe invocation honour the INCLUDE variable (didn't work either as user or system variable). Force QMAKE to pass /I flag to RC invocation, and get that /I flag imported into the project settings (Resource Compiler properties). Thanks in advance.

  Hi, I just wondering if anyone has already tried of doing something like schema inheritance in BizTalk schemas? I am using WCF Adapter and using 'consume adapter service' to generate a schema automatically, what I wanted is instead of always generating a schema and since most of my schema is the same then I want to have something like a base schema. I have this scenario that I'm testing flat file debatching, for debatching I need to set maxoccur property of the schema to '1' but for batch processing it should be '*', instead of creating a two different schemas I want just to create a base schema and inherit from it and then change the maxoccur property in the derived schema. I am running Samba 3.0.23d on FreeBSD is release 7.1 I changed the policies as described above but still cannot connect to the samba server with the windows 7 or a server 2008. I feel it is a problem with recognizing the new machines on the network. the windows machines can see the samba server, but cannot connect to it or view any of the files. After changing the security policies the samba server asked for network id and password but would not allow the machine to connect, said they were unknown username or bad password.
