• Pure-JavaScript projects in NetBeans?

  This seems like it ought to be obvious, yet I can't figure it out. I do a lot of JavaScript coding, and I really like NetBeans. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to create a "JavaScript" project in NetBeans. If I go to File - New Project, my only options are "Java", "Ruby", and "NetBeans Modules". I don't want any of these. My project consists mostly of JavaScript, with a little bit of CSS. I ususally just end up creating a "Ruby" project, but this seems retarded, since I don't actually have any Ruby code. Why isn't there an option to create a "JavaScript" or "Web" project, or at least a "Generic" project that doesn't revolve around a specific language? Am I missing something here?

  Hi I am trying to set the value of a field on a ListItem in an event receiver but its not working All i am doing during the event is properties.AfterProperties[<field internal name>] = 1; No errors are thrown but the the field i'm setting does not change. I have also tried properties.ListItem[<field internal name>] = 1; properties.ListItem.Update(); Have also tried SystemUpdate(); I know i am meant to be setting the afterproperties but think i am missing an obvious step. • How to code a batch file to copy and rename the most recently dated file?

  I'm trying to code a batch file to copy only the most recently dated file in a given folder to another directory on the local machine, and simultaneously rename it as it does. I've found a very similar question here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/97371/batch-script-to-copy-newest-file and have managed to cobble together the below code from other forums too, but have hit a brick wall as it only results in the batch file itself being copied to the destination folder. It doesn't matter to me where the batch file itself sits in order for this to run. The source folder is C:! BATCH and the destination folder is C:\DROP The code is below, apologies if this is a glaringly obvious answer but it's literally the first foray into coding batch files for me... • ASP.Net: Scheduled tasks in a shared environment.

  This is really an extension of this question, which asked the best way to schedule tasks which need to be performed periodically within ASP.NET in a normal environment. However, I would like to ask this specifically for a Shared Hosting Environment (most of the answers to the previous question would not work in a shared environment as far as I know). One obvious solution would be to have a page which is responsible to performing the tasks on the hosted machine, and call this page from another machine (that you have full control over) using e.g. a windows scheduled task. This is a bit nasty though - are there any better approaches?

• Graph - strongly connected components

  Hello! Is there any fast way to determine the size of the largest strongly connected component in a graph? I mean, like, the obvious approach would mean determining every SCC (could be done using two DFS calls, I suppose) and then looping through them and taking the maximum. I'm pretty sure there has to be some better approach if I only need to have the size of that component and only the largest one, but I can't think of a good solution. Any ideas? Thanks.

• Is there a SortedList<T> class in .net ? (not SortedList<Key,Value> which is actually a kind of Sort

  I need to sort some objects according to their contents (in fact according to one of their properties, which is NOT the key and may be duplicated between different objects) .net provides two classes (SortedDictionnary and SortedList), and both are some kind of Dictionaries. The only difference (AFAIK) is that SortedDictionnary uses a binary tree to maintain its state whereas SortedList does not and is accessible via an index. I could achieve what I want using a List, and then using its Sort() method with a custom implementation of IComparer, but it wouldn't be time-efficient as I would sort the whole List each time I insert a new object, whereas a good SortedList would just insert the item at the right position. What I need is a SortedList class with a RefreshPosition(int index) to move only the changed (or inserted) object rather than resorting the whole list each time an object inside changes. Am I missing something obvious ?

  I can't understand the virtues of using XML comments. I know they can be converted into nice documentation external to the code, but the same can be achieved with the much more concise DOxygen syntax. In my opinion the XML comments are wrong, because: They obfuscate the comments and the code in general. (They are more difficult to read by humans). Less code can be viewed on a single screen, because "summary" and "/summary" take additional lines. They suggest that all method parameters have to be commented, whereas 90% of them are obvious and SHOULD be left not commented. The only problem I have with this is that my point of view seems to be in minority. Why?

I've been wondering how I might set the version number displayed for user-scripts in Chrome's extension tab So far the obvious methods have failed: // ==UserScript== // @version 1.1.5 // @uso:version 1.1.5 // ==/UserScript== I know Greasemonkey for Firefox doesn't use a version value, but since Chrome actually displays a version number, I thought it might. Perhaps this is a feature that has not been implemented? Or maybe it was never intended to be there, but it is there because extensions have version numbers, and user-scripts are currently installed as extensions?   There probably is some solution to this, whether it involves code running on just the wordpress installation or a combination of a wordpress installation and a master server I am not sure yet, but please remember not to have tunnel vision and consider any and all possible solutions: The scenario is this: A WordPress plugin (plugin-A) that manages some sort of valuable data (something that the admin would not want stolen), lets say, lead data with user's name and email addresses, the plugin uses its own db tables. Other than the obvious (which is the admin installing plugin-B, not knowing its malicious intent), what is to prevent another WordPress plugin (plugin-B) from accessing plugin-A data or hacking plugin-A files to circumvent security.

  I've written a WCF IDispatchMessageInspector, so I can log incomming and outgoing messages. But I'm not sure how to get a nicely-formatted XML string to log.   How do I use a random number generator that gives bits (0 or 1) to simulate a fair 26-sided die? I want to use a bitstream to pick letters of the English alphabet such that the odds of any one letter coming up is the same as the odds of any other letter (I know real words aren't like that and have specific frequency distributions for each letter but it doesn't matter here). What's the best way to use binary 0/1 decisions to pick letters fairly from the set A-Z? I can think of a few ways to map bits onto letters but it's not obvious to me that they won't be biased. Is there a known good way?

• Django's manage.py shell won't indent

  I seem to have run into a strange bug or more likely some setting I am unfamiliar with on my system that is not allowing me to tab when I am in Django's shell (python manage.py shell is how I run it). For obvious reasons this is proving to be annoying since I can't do any loops or conditonals in the shell. If I hit tab it completes all functions that are available to me, like bash does in a terminal. I've tried just using spaces for my indents but I always get an indentation error. Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to get tab to work in my shell again? (It may be relevant to know that this is on a Ubuntu 9.04 system). Edit: tab works fine in the regular pythong shell, it's only in django's that it doesn't. Thanks.

  It seems like the safest way to think of an Inner Join is to think of it as a Cross Join and then satisfying some condition(s)? Because the equi-join can be obvious, but the non-equi-join can be a bit confusing. But if we always use the Cross Join, and then filter out the ones satisfying the condition, then we get the resulting table. In other words, we can always analyze it by using the first record on the left table, and then go through every single records on the right, and then repeat that for 2nd record on the left, and for the 3rd, 4th, ... etc. So in our mind, we can analyze it using this way, and it is like O(n^2), although what happens in the DBMS maybe that it is a lot faster (when an index is present). Is there another good way to think of it besides this method?

• UITableViewCells loaded from NIB always nil

  I'm trying to create a simple form using a UITableViewController as documented in the Apple Developer Documentation here: http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/TableView_iPhone/TableViewCells/TableViewCells.html What I'm trying to do is located in the section entitled: "The Technique for Static Row Content" I've created a couple of UITableViewCells and added them to my nib, but when I try and access them to add them to the UITableView (in the cellForRowAtIndexPath method) they are always null. It's like they are not being properly loaded from the nib. I've double/triple/quadruple checked my code to make sure I'm doing it exactly as detailed in the docs, but no luck. Is there something obvious I'm missing here? Thanks

• Easy way to parse a url in C++ cross platform?

  I need to parse a url to get the protocol host path and query in an application I am writing in c++. The application is intended to be cross platform. Im surprised I cant find anything that does this in boost or poco libraries. Is it somewhere obvious Im not looking? Any suggestions on appropriate open source libs? • What are best practices for securing the admin section of a website?

  I'd like to know what people consider best practice for securing the Admin sections of websites, specifically from an authentication/access point of view. Of course there are obvious things, such as using SSL and logging all access, but I'm wondering just where above these basic steps people consider the bar to be set. For example: Are you just relying on the same authentication mechanism that you use for normal users? If not, what? Are you running the Admin section in the same 'application domain'? • PHP & MySQLi timeout

  Whenever I try to create a mysqli object, as in; $mysqli = new mysqli(host, user, pass, table); ...the page just loads for around a minute, then stops, showing all the content of the page up until that line. info() says that MySQLi (and MySQL if that matters) are enabled, and I can access the MySQL CLI. I'm also working on a local machine, not a remote server. I feel like I've missed something obvious. Can anyone shed some light on it? Edit: just for clarification, I am actually putting real values into the mysqli constructor :)

• Why does Color.IsNamedColor not work when I create a color using Color.FromArgb()?

  In my app I allow the user to build a color, and then show him the name or value of the color later on. If the user picks red (full red, not red-ish), I want to show him "red". If he picks some strange color, then the hex value would be just fine. Here's sample code that demonstrates the problem: static string GetName(int r, int g, int b) { Color c = Color.FromArgb(r, g, b); // Note that specifying a = 255 doesn't make a difference if (c.IsNamedColor) { return c.Name; } else { // return hex value } } Even with very obvious colors like red IsNamedColor never returns true. Looking at the ARGB values for my color and Color.Red, I see no difference. However, calling Color.Red.GetHashCode() returns a different hash code than Color.FromArgb(255, 0, 0).GetHashCode(). How can I create a color using user specified RGB values and have the Name property come out right?

• ReSharper Unit Test Runner: Support for Deployment Items

  I like the Unit test runner in ReSharper 4.5, and would like to use it with my MSTest tests, but one thing annoys me: In some of our solutions, we have set up some Deployment Items in the .testrunconfig file. The ReSharper Unit Test runner does not seem to respect this, so I get errors when trying to run the unit tests from ReSharper. Is there any workraound for this ? Update: citizenmatt's answer was correct, the option to use a .testrunconfig with ReSharper exists in the Options dialog of ReSharper. You have to select the unit test provider on the list, then the controls to do that appears. (That was not obvious or discoverable, at least not for me ;-)

• STL Static-Const Member Definitions

  How does the following work? #include <limits> int main() { const int* const foo = &std::numeric_limits<int> ::digits; } I was under the impression that in order to take an address of a static const-ant member we had to physically define it in some translation unit in order to please the linker. That said, after looking at the preprocessed code for this TU, I couldn't find an external definition for the digits member (or any other relevant members). I tested this on two compilers (VC++ 10 and g++ 4.2.4) and got identical results (i.e., it works). Does the linker auto-magically link against an object file where this stuff is defined, or am I missing something obvious here?
