You can freeze rows and columns in your spreadsheet. To do so, select the cell above which and to the left of which you want to freeze the columns and rows. Click the View tab.

  • Wireless networks are not detected at start up in Ubuntu 12.04

    I have recently (three four days ago) installed Ubuntu 12.04 via windows installer i.e. wubi.exe. After the installation completed wireless and Ethernet were both working well. But after restart wireless networks didn't show up while in the network manager both networking and wireless were enabled. Though sometimes after boot it did show the networks available but very rarely. So I went through various posts regarding wireless issues in Ubuntu 12.04 and tried so many things but ended up in nothing satisfactory. I have Broadcom 4313 LAN network controller and brcmsmac driver. Then relying on some suggestions I tried to install bcm-wl driver but couldn't install due to some error in jockeyl.log file. Then i tried fresh installation of the same driver but still could resolve the startup issues with wireless. Then again I reinstalled Ubuntu inside windows using wubi installer. This time again same problem occurred after boot. But this time I successfully installed wl driver before disturbing file-system files of Ubuntu. But again the same issue. This time I noticed some new things: If I inserted Ethernet/LAN cable before startup then wireless networks are available and of course LAN(wired) networks also work. but if i don't plug in cable before startup and then plug it after startup then it didn't detect Ethernet network neither wireless. So I haven't noticed it before that LAN along with wifi also doesn't work after startup. But if i suspend the session and make it sleep and again login then it worked. I tried it every time that WLAN worked perfectly. But still i m unable to resolve that startup problem. Each time i boot first I have to suspend it once then only networks are available. It irritates me each time i reboot/boot my lappy. So please help out of this problem. Any ideas/help regarding this issue would be highly appreciated.     Hello, I'd like to use my cell phone (Nokia E71) as a handset for incoming calls in Skype/Empathy. I know this basically means that I have to configure it as a PulseAudio device, but I wasn't able to do that. Following a guide (in Italian, sorry), I installed pulseaudio-module-bluetooth and BlueMan, but the latter sees the phone as a "Smartphone", not allowing me choose other profiles. Can you help me? From the examples I've seen, to insert text in a varchar() cell, I can write just the string to insert, but for nvarchar() cells, every example prefix the strings with the letter N. I tried the following query on a table which has nvarchar() rows, and it works fine, so the prefix N is not required: insert into [TableName] values ('Hello', 'World') Why the strings are prefixed with N in every example I've seen? What are the pros or cons of using this prefix?

What is the best approach to make the system only update the automated data, not the manually edited ones? I mean yes, flagging the cell which is manually edited is one way to do it, but I want to know if there's another way to accomplish this? Just curiosity.

Now I wanna find out how to make that if I hit the Enter key the tile's texture change to another.   • How do I create a VBA macro that will copy data from an entry sheet, into a summary sheet by date

    I'm trying to create a macro that will copy data from a data entry sheet into a summary sheet. The entry sheet is going to be cleared daily so I can't use a formula just to reference it. I want the user to be able to enter a date, run a macro, and have the macro copy the data from the entry sheet into the cells for the corresponding date on the summary sheet. I've looked around and found bits and pieces of how to do this but I can't put it all together. Update: Thanks to the information below I was able to find some additional data. I have a pretty crude macro that works if the user manually selects the correct cell. Now I just need to figure out how to automatically select the current cell relative to the current date.     I've 30+ workbooks each with 5 specific worksheets (formated the same). Each worksheet's data needs to be linked to a master workbook, so that I end up with 5 master workbooks and all the specific data in one long table format $A$2:$I$750. (Are you still with me? ;)) I don't have access to a database, so I'm having to link the sheets to their master workbook directly. I've highlighted the data I need; named the range; and then tried referencing this from my master workbook. I get the #Value error symbol when I try to link (=[WorkbookName]!MyNamedRange) to a cell that doesn't match the top left cell of my range. Example: MyNamedrange is always =$A$2:$I43$ on one specific sheet. On my master workbook it works if it's referenced at A2 but I get #Value if it's referenced A1, or A44. Any ideas? I'm trying to link my data in one continous table so I can run a pivot on it, and other things. Can it be done like this, or should I just copy and paste? I'm trying to keep things 'linked'so I do not need to spend time C&Ping all day. Many thanks Mike.

  • Devices on one switch can't see devices on another switch

    I have RoadRunner Internet cable service hooked to a Motorola Surfboard modem. This is connected to a 10/100 wireless router (located in the garage). Downstairs, I have a ZyXEL GS-108b gigabit switch connected to one port on the router. From this switch I ran connections to a PS3, DVR, Vonage box and a wireless router (Buffalo AirStation 10/100). The Buffalo AirStation works as a wireless AP for other laptops, iPads and cell phones. Upstairs, I have an Asus gigabit switch connected to a gaming desktop, printer, and a media server on FreeNAS (PS3 Media Server on FreeNAS). The router is configured to assign static IPs to both the PS3 and the media server. Problem - I connect a laptop to the switch downstairs after disabling the wireless, thus making sure that I am accessing internet through the wired connection (and the router in the garage). All my computers, iPads and cell phones are able to connect to the internet without a problem. My PS3 connects to the interent with a wired connection but is unable to access the media server (I get a message that no media server is found). I used a wired laptop downstairs (connected to switch downstairs) but am unable to ping either the PS3 or media server! I may be doing something silly but am at my wits' end. Please help!

"The connection was reset" (note.- added a space after http: to avoid link protection but this is not really promoting anything) I've been troubleshooting (3) for a couple hours and I'm unable to identify the culprit. I'm running NGINX 1.0.10 (latest stable) on Debian 6.0.2 32 bits. This NGINX instance runs another 40 or 50 sites with no problems.

  • Numbering grouped data in Excel

    I have an Excel spreadsheet (2010) with data similar to this: Dogs Brown Nice Dogs White Nice Dogs White Moody Cats Black Nice Cats Black Mean Cats White Nice Cats White Mean I want to group these animals but I only care about species and color. I don't care about disposition. I want to assign group numbers to the set as shown here. 1 Dogs Brown Nice 2 Dogs White Nice 2 Dogs White Moody 3 Cats Black Nice 3 Cats Black Mean 4 Cats White Nice 4 Cats White Mean I was able to select all the species and colors, then from the data tab select 'advanced', then 'unique records only'. This collapsed the data so that I could number the visible rows. Then when I 'cleared' the filter I could easily just fill the blank areas under the numbers with the number above. The problem is that my real data has far too many rows for this to be practical. Also, the trick about entering 1 in the first cell, 2 in the cell below, selecting both then dragging the corner down to 'auto-number' doesn't seem to work when you're viewing filtered rows. Any way to do this?

  • How to turn off Excel "Header Row" without losing data in it?

    I've been sent an Excel spreadsheet with a weird first row. Some of the cells say "Column1", "Column2", etc., but I can't delete their contents. If I select the cell and hit backspace, it goes blank, but when I press return, it goes right back to saying "Column1". I found another answer here that suggested this could be caused by "Cell validation", but the validation window says "Any value", and also "show alert" (and I'm not seeing an alert), so I don't think that's it. The first row is white text on a blue background, if that means anything. The spreadsheet was sent to me in XLSX format, but I tried resaving as XLS and opening that, and it seems to make no difference. This is with the "ribbon" version of Excel (they got rid of the Help menu so I don't know how to see what version number it is!). Thanks! Update: The Excel online help says to use ribbon Home tab - Cells - Delete - ... to delete cells. When I select anything on the first row, this pop-up menu is dimmed. So maybe Excel doesn't think row 1 consists of "cells"? Though I don't know what else it would call them. Update 2: I found it, kind of. If I click the "Design" tab in the ribbon, then uncheck "Header Row", then first row becomes a normal row of cells again. Unfortunately, the contents disappear entirely. I want to delete a few cells, not all 50+! And if I copy the first row before turning off "Header Row", it disappears from the clipboard when I uncheck that. So I kind of know what mode it's stuck in, but not a good way out of it.

    Hi! I'm working by my customer premises and they let me connect my private laptop on a dedicated Wi-Fi for internet access. It's nice for external consultants. The only issue is that we can't connect on a remote server on port 25. I suppose this policy is set up to avoid infected computers sending spam from their network. As you can have guessed, this is something weird that I can't send mail at all. Fortunately, I've a 3G cell phone that I can connect by Bluetooth on my laptop. So when I want to send an e-mail, I have to disconnect from Wi-Fi, connect my phone, send the e-mail, disconnect phone and reconnect Wi-Fi. Kinda overhead. My question is: how can I tell Windows 7 to use the Wi-Fi for every out connection, but if it's a connection on port 25, use the cell phone network? With this solution, I could let my phone connected all day without having to switch again and again. Thanks a lot for your anwwers. Fabian

    I am looking for some help with a VBA solution for preserving hyperlinks when using VLOOKUP on Excel (2010). I have a load of data on Sheet 1 for internal use only, and a cut-down version of this on Sheet 2. Instead of recreating Sheet 2 everytime, I am looking to have a working version which updates everytime Sheet1 is updated. Thus, I have used VLOOKUP on Sheet 2 so that only the desired info is returned on sheet 2. However, the problem was that sheet 1 contained in many cells Hyperlinks to external websites, and this would not pull through to Sheet2 using VLOOKUP. With some help, however, using the following VBA solution the hyperlinks now pull through: Function GetHyperLink(r As Range) As String If r.Hyperlinks.Count Then GetHyperLink = r.Hyperlinks(1).Address End If End Function And I am using the following formula in the relevant cell(s) in Sheet2: =HYPERLINK(GetHyperLink(INDEX('Sheet 1'!$B$1:$B$10001,MATCH(A4,'Sheet 1'!$A$1:$A$10001,0))),(VLOOKUP(A4,'Sheet 1'!$A$1:$B$10001,2,FALSE))) However, the problem is with formatting: every cell on Sheet2 is formatted blue and underlined, even although some of them do not contain a hyperlink! My range extends from column A through X so I need a matching row of data to start in column Y.   • Excel hyperlinks can be attached to a range of cells -- what is the use case for this?

    In Excel 2003 and 2007 (and presumably 2010), it is possible to attach a hyperlink to a single cell; this is well known. Excel also allows you select a range for insertion. In that case, clicking on any cell in the range will jump to the target of the hyperlink. I can't find any web reference to this possibility. My question is: What is the use case for being able to do this? My only suggestion: The first worksheet is a menu for the remainder of the workbook. Each worksheet or topic has a hyperlink on the menu sheet. Each hyperlinks occupies a 3x3 range of cells to make it easier for users in a hurry to click on the correct link. A side question: Interestingly, Excel allows you to overlap ranges. Example: Link from A1:C3 to file1. Then link from B2:D4 to file2. The overlapped cells (B2:C3) now point to file2. Only A1, A2, A3, B1, and C1 now point to file1. No warning is given about the overlap. What is the rationale for this behaviour?

  • Why is only one Excel spreadsheet crippled, but others are fine?

    I have an inherited spreadsheet that I really don't want to rebuild at the moment. It's a simple small workbook that is small (< 200 rows that don't even reach to AA) and does nothing more than calculate some totals within the same worksheets. No macros, no external data sources, nothing beyond basic formatting of dates, numbers and strings. I see importing data from CSV/text has created many many workbook connections over time, but even if I delete them all (there were hundreds) it makes no difference in performance. Even clicking to simply change focus from cell to cell takes 10+ seconds, adorned by the spinning cursor and (Not Responding) appending to the title bar and the application locking up. The program seems to "recover" every time, but efficiency of editing this file is obviously seriously handicapped. All other files seem fine in Excel, and other programs have no apparent performance issues. I see Excel is chewing up CPU but I'm not sure how to narrow down what process or service is "clashing" with Excel. I tried the same file on other computers and performance is fine. If I turn off all start-up services and run only Excel, performance is restored... until I start using other programs and then it bogs down again. At this point, I would entertain almost any idea, theory or suggestion that helps pinpoint, solve or work around the issue.

  • How to use the outcome of a formula as the value for Vlookup or another IF formula

    Ok I will try to explain my issue effectively. I am making a GPA sheet in which the value out of 100 is computer in to a GPA value and then in to a letter. In cell N5 i have the value of all their grades (formula: =H3+H4+H5) Now in cell (j6) I have a formula which is giving them a number depending on the value calculated in N5 (Formula: =IF(AND(N5>=60,N5<=63.999),"2.0",IF(AND(N5>=64,N5<=66.999),"2.25",IF(AND(N5>=67,N5<=69.999),"2.4",IF(AND(N5>=70,N5<=73.999),"2.5",IF(AND(N5>=74,N5<=76.999),"2.75",IF(AND(N5>=77,N5<=79.999),"2.9",IF(AND(N5>=80,N5<=83.999),"3.0",IF(AND(N5>=84,N5<=86.999),"3.25",IF(AND(N5>=87,N5<=89.999),"3.4",IF(AND(N5>=90,N5<=93.999),"3.50",IF(AND(N5>=94,N5<=96.999),"3.75",IF(AND(N5>=97,N5<=100),"4",IF(AND(N5<=59.999),"0"))))))))))))) Still no problem... as the values I was looking for comes out (example 84.2 shows up as 3.25 as I wanted). However here comes the problem.... I have tried to use the outcome in J6 to do Vlookup or another if formula, however excel does not seem to recognize the value in J6. For example: =VLOOKUP(j6,B3:C15,2,FALSE)... this returns N/A however if I enter =VLOOKUP(3.25,B3:C15,2,FALSE) it gives me what im looking for. It seems that excel will not register the outcome of my formula as a number. What can I do please?

  • ms excel 2010 in windows xp - when open workbook the data is formatted differently than when i saved it

    I haven't been able to find an answer to this. I have multiple files that I use regularly in excel that now have cell formats of "date". Every single cell in the entire workbook (all sheets) is now formatted as "date". The problem is that I lost my formatting for percents, numbers years, etc and now everything is converted to date (xx/xx/xxxx). I am able to open previously saved versions of a file (prior to me having the problem) and the cells are formatted as I intend them to be (percents, numbers, general, as well as dates). Since this has happened on a couple different files recently, I am wondering how this is happening and how do I prevent it from happening in the future. I cannot cure the problem just by highlighting the entire sheet and converting back to general because I lose all my percents and number formatting. Example (Correct formatting): Month Year Working Days MTD POS Curr Rem May 2012 22 0 1,553,549 June 2012 22 0 1,516,903 June 2011 22 0 1,555,512 June 2010 22 0 1,584,704 Example (Incorrect formatting): Month Year Working Days MTD POS Curr Rem June Tuesday, July 04, 1905 Wednesday, January 04, 1900 Wednesday, January 18, 1900 213,320 July Tuesday, July 04, 1905 Wednesday, January 04, 1900 Monday, January 16, 1900 314,261 July Monday, July 03, 1905 Wednesday, January 04, 1900 Sunday, January 15, 1900 447,759 July Sunday, July 02, 1905 Wednesday, January 04, 1900 Monday, January 16, 1900 321,952 Sorry for the mess.   • Show (copy) data at "X" time and stop update

    I have two sheets. In the first sheet, cell F4, I have 00:00:00 (countdown). G9, G10 and G11 are cells that receive live data (decimal numbers). In the second sheet, I have three cells linked from sheet1, G9 ='Sheet1'!G9, G10 ='Sheet1'!G10, G11 ='Sheet1'!G11 (which update themselves when data is modified in the first sheet). Now I want to set in sheet 2, (assume) cells B9, B10 and B11 to show me (copy) the values from G9, G10 and G11 from sheet 1 when the countdown was 00:00:05 (5 seconds before Start) and not update again if the data changes in the cell it pulled the data from. Like G9 ='Sheet1'!G9 at 00:00:05 and stop here, do not update anything. OK? I can do a part, but the real problem is: I can not make it stop cells to update. Stand frozen, freeze, not move, calm .. however. I do not want to seem pretentious (but my knowledge in excel is limited), the most appropriate would be a formula, not macro or VBA, if possible. I want to post a picture but I can not because of my restrictions. Well, if this is not possible with a formula is just fine with (not really) VBA.
