• jquery hover menu question

  Hi all, I am developing a small web app that uses jquery quite a lot. In my app a user can hover an image, which becomes bigger after a few seconds, giving him more details. The problem is that when the image enlarges the image, it takes over the area of the nearby images as well. Now, if the user goes over the second red square (numbered as 2) I would like the currently enlarged image to disappear and instead enlarge the image pictured below as square two. I am not much of a painter, but I have attached a small image to help illustrate the problem. In short, How can I tell jquery to detect when the mouse is over red square number two, yet not raising the event if the mouse is over green square. [in my demo picture, hovering on point]

• Fixed Position div Vertical Only

  I have a current web build with a right sidebar that is a fixed position. I have tried to positioning from the right but don't want it overlapping other divs content. What I am looking for is to have the content scrollable horizontally to the right when it is out of the viewport window. Any help would be greatly appreciated. similarly to this: http://demo.rickyh.co.uk/css-position-x-and-position-y/ however I can not get this working. This has been solved by alternative method. Thanks for those who actually considered helping.

• Creating a standalone ASP.NET MVC application for Windows XP

  Is there a way to create an installable (ideally XCopy installable) version of an ASP.NET MVC application that will run in a standalone fashion on a Windows XP machine? I don't mind installing SQL Server Express for this purpose, so I guess the question boils down to this: Can the Cassini web server that comes with Visual Studio 2008 be bundled with the application? Or are there other options? NOTE: The installation is for demo purposes only, so there are no licensing problems. Also, I am suggesting Cassini because I don't know of a way to install IIS7 on Windows XP. I can't do major hackage on the registry to get this to work.

Can anyone provide some clear steps to setup the requisite tables, controllers, classes, etc needed to have a working Membership provider? I know that the Demo that MVC ships with has an Accounts controller. However, should I be using this in my own project? What do I need to get my existing database ready if so? If not, how do I learn what I need to do to implement a membership provider?

• Can you explain this odd behavior with dragging items into nested sortables?

  I have the following setup: A sortable list where one of the <li> has a table with lists in each cell. All of the lists are sortable with each other. Draggable items that can be added to any of the sortables Issue: When adding a draggable item ('drag 1', 'drag 2', 'drag 3') to one of the lists in the horizontal lists (table of lists) it duplicates the draggable when dropped. Sometimes it will create both copies in the same list or one in the item list and one in the column list.   I've seen a few mentions of this on SO, but staring at Wikipedia and at an MFC dynamic dialog demo did nothing to enlighten me. Can someone please explain this? Learning a fundamentally different concept sounds nice. Edit: I think I'm getting a better feel for it. I guess I just didn't look at the source code carefully enough the first time. I have mixed feelings about DE at this point. On the one hand, it can make certain tasks considerably easier. On the other hand, getting it up and running (i.e. setting it up in your language of choice) is not easy (I'm sure it would be if I understood it better)...though I guess the toolbox for it need only be made once, then expanded as necessary. I think in order to really understand it, I'll probably need to try implimenting it in another language.

• Why is display:inline killing IE 8.0 performance?

  I have an image gallery based on this jQuery plugin: http://jqueryfordesigners.com/demo/slider-gallery.html This works really well in Firefox, Chrome and even IE 7.0, but when I try it with more than 50 images in IE 8.0 the performance is incredible slow. Just hovering over the thumbnail brings the CPU load to 100%. At first I thought it's a Javascript problem, so I used the IE profiler, but the results were normal. Next I checked the CSS and finally found the cause: .sliderGallery UL LI { display: inline; } This gets the thumbnails to align horizontally. If I chance it to display:block, performance is fine and the scroller is still working but obviously it looks funny, because the thumbs are aligned vertically. My questions: Why does IE 8 have this problem with many display:inline elements What can I do to solve it I'll gladly provide more information if necessary.

• keypress event not being triggered only at start and end of text field in Firefox (JQuery)

  I'm listening for keypress events on an input field with delegation. For some reason, Firefox doesn't trigger the delegated event for cursor UP when at the start of the field, or cursor DOWN when at the end. LEFT and RIGHT work as expected all the time. Directly binding an event listener to the field works fine, so it has to be something to do with delegation.   Hey guys, I've been looking around for some time now, but I can't find a way to combine these elements: I want a 100% width div, with 1 row of elements. I need to scroll through this div, just like: http://jqueryfordesigners.com/demo/scrollable-timelines.html So with a hidden overflow and such. But now I want some sort of smooth ease when I let go of the mouseclick, so it'll be like a sort sweep. So when I drag the screen from left to right, and let go of the mouse, it'll move on for 1 sec and linearly slowing down. Hm, am I making sense? I'm trying to get it so that if you're down a ways on the gallery and then click "foreword" or any menu item, it scrolls you back to 0,0. (version 8.0.60001) The form content gets hidden, as does the content within the class='hide' div but outside the form, but the form border continues to show, and retains its size. Does anybody have a workaround for this? jQuery is version 1.4.2 I tried to create a small problem demo in jsfiddle, but that site was not functional in the IE browser.

• Help modifying QuartzDemo example application

  Can anyone please, oh sweet pain, please take me out of my misery by writing a simple example on how the heck you pass a number (int value) which gets created in 1 .m file to another .m file. In the apple demo application called QuartzDemo, there is a file called QuartzImages.m This file has the following line of code: [CODE]CGPDFPageRef page = CGPDFDocumentGetPage(pdf, 1);[/CODE] Notice the (pdf, 1) in that line. This number should be replaced with an integer variable. Now, there is also a file called MainViewController.m. In that file, there is a method? called -(void)viewDidLoad In that method, I want to assign a number to the integer variable which would replace the damn "1" with whatever number I want. I have been pulling my hair trying to get this done, reading beginning iPhone 3 Development book, dev documentation and God knows what not, without results. Any help would be greatly appreciated... Sigh.

• Google Maps API v3 - Directions/Paths breaking KML Overlay Infowindows

  I'm in the end stages before content filling and then production on the Google Maps project I've been working on. A number of bugs and such have been thwarted, but this latest one has me relatively stumped. The demo map can be viewed here: http://dougglover.com/samples/finalProduct/ Everything works fine until you create a path using the Directions section(not to be confused with Get Directions). To reproduce the problem, play around with the map, click on a building or two, just to see the functionality. After ensuring that clicking on a building works(brings up an infowindow), choose two buildings to get directions to in the Directions area. It works great with the routing algorithm I've implemented, and the paths show up nicely, and intelligently. The problem being that you can't click buildings anymore to see their info. I'm assuming it has something to do with the z-index error popping up in the console, but I'm not sure how to handle that if it is the problem. Any guidance is greatly appreciated. :)

  I've just downloaded MochaUI, and I'm playing around trying to build an interface. I've successfully created windows, but I'm having trouble when it comes to layouts with columns. I've included all of the libraries in the same order as the demo, and this is in my init code: window.addEvent('domready', function(){ new MochaUI.Column({ id: 'sideColumn1', placement: 'left', width: 200, resizeLimit: [100, 300] }); }); When run, no column is created and I get the error: A is null Does anyone have any ideas?   Hi, i've started to use sIFR3. I don't know how to turn on smoothing of font. Do i need to change it in my font.swf file? In FF3 it work perfect, everything is okay, but when i turn on my IE8, nothing changes. Even live example doesn't work (http://work.likeaninja.co.uk/sifr/demo/). What's going on? My Flash Player is "WIN 10,1,51,95" (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html). I thinks it's beta, but it shouldn't change anything. Help!

And when you click on any thumbe, it disappears the thumbs and shows the updated votes. I want to make changes that in begining it shows vote up and vote down separately (which are stored in database separately). and after thumb up or down is pressed, it should not remove the thumbs, but it should show the updated vote up and down separatetly. • What would you use for auto completion in Rails app?

  I want to use auto-completion in a number of fields (5-7) in my forms. There is a screencast on auto-completion with Prototype library by Ryan Bates ( http://railscasts.com/episodes/102-auto-complete-association). On the other hand, I have noticed that quite many guys suggest jQuery for this task ( http://jquery.bassistance.de/autocomplete/demo/). And I guess, there was probably some development last year(s), so I ask you - what would you use nowadays to auto-complete your form fields and why?
