  • Word document to PDF: open hyperlinks in new window

    I have a Mircosoft Word document with hyperlinks in it. When I save the PDF document, those hyperlinks no longer open that link in a new window. I have tried all the settings under the "Target Frame..." option, but those don't seem to persist. Is there any settings that help with this to make all hyperlinks in the document open in a new window? I am currently using the Acrobat plugin, but could move to a different plugin if it offers this feature.

  • Multiple Selections from Dropdown in Word 2011 Form

    Anyone know if there is a way to setup a Word form to allow the user to select multiple items from a dropdown list that are then displayed? For example, I need to setup a form to identify applicability of specific procedures to various levels of our organization. Since the listing of all departments under all divisions can be pretty lengthy, I was hoping for the ability to check off a division and then have a dropdown list on the same line to select the applicable departments (so the selections are specific to that division and not all listed on the form if that division is not applicable). First, I'm not seeing how to create a dropdown that would allow multiple selections. Beyond that, I don't know if that form element alone would then display all selected items or if that would require another element of some type. Anyone have any suggestions on this?   • Word 2010 - Styled paragraph separating into separate numbered lines

    USING WORD 2010 I have a style "Heading 4 Par" which is a style based on Heading 4. It is a numbered style. My problem is when I apply the "Heading 4 Par" to say a 3 lined paragraph it separates each of the lines in the paragraph and numbers it. I always show the formatting characters and as far as I can see there is only ONE paragraph mark situated at the end of what is supposed to be a paragraph. eg. Original: 7.4 Text.... text con't..... Text... After Applying Format: 7.4 Text... 7.4 text con't... 7.4 text con't. After I've applied the format it behaves as though each line should be the start of a new paragraph but there is no paragraph mark to show this. This is driving me crazy! Help!

  • Retaining expanded/contracted nodes in Word 2010's navigation pane

    I have a lengthy document in Word 2010 which makes copious use of standard header styles. These display hierarchically (and very usefully!) in the navigation pane. But the list of these sections and subsections in the navigation pane is somewhat lengthy, with all nodes being expanded by default. I am now working near the end of the document so every time I open the document I contract the first so many header 1 nodes to compress the list to fit on one screen. I then have direct access to the later sections while still letting me access the earlier sections if needed. The problem is that as soon as I close the document all the customization I did in the navigation pane is lost. Is there any option or setting somewhere that will retain the expanded or contracted state of nodes in the navigation pane?

  • Selection Issues with a PDF from a Word document

    I have a long Word document that has a running footer. When I try to copy and paste across pages in the PDF generated from this document, the behavior of this footer is unpredictable--sometimes it is unselected, sometimes it is selected, sometimes the footer on the next page is selected. I would prefer to make this portion of the document unselectable, so that it still shows up but doesn't interfere with copying and pasting. Does anyone have an idea of how to do this? No, changing it to an image isn't possible, because it includes a page number.

  • Can't type text into table cell when form is protected in Word 2002

    I created several tables in an Word 2002 document to act as a form for users to fill out. In some cells I added check boxes and dropdown lists for people to select options from. When I click on the Protect form button the check boxes and dropdowns become active; however, I can't type anything in the other cells. If I click in an empty cell it automatically moves to the next checkbox. When I unprotect the form then I can type in the empty cells but then checkboxes and dropdowns become useless. I know that the user can double click on the checkbox and then manually select to have it checked, but they can't do this with the dropdowns. What do I have to do to allow the user to type in responses to the tables cells and also select answers from checkboxes and dropdowns? Thanks!

    Can any body help me, in this regard. I just want to remove all the images in my word document. I have about 365 pages document, in which there are images in almost all pages. I can not delete one by one. I can save it in .txt format but I will lose the formatting of the data. Is there any other way to get this. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.   • Split a table in Word without losing row title

    Word has the feature to repeat title row of a table when a table is so long that it spans a bunch of pages. I need to categorize my data into several pages, and I did that by splitting the table and insert page split to put them all in a page of itself. So now I got several page of data, but only the first page has title row. Is there anyway else to do this beside manually adding the title row to all the other pages?   • Batch convert of Word docs with images to HTML

    OK, here is my situation: I made a knowledge base for a company, they have about 500 word documents with screenshots in them explaining procedures and such. I can easily paste the text into the cms wysiwyg editor on the knowledge base but the images need to be uploaded one at a time, then sized and placed in the article. Question: Is there any suggestions for an automatic method to to convert the documents to html with the appropriate image tags and links to the images in them, and export/package the images for ftp upload? I can already convert them to HTML automatically using a batch file and a program, but converting the images to the correct tags with href link, then exporting them for ftp is where i need some help. Might not even be possible, but if anyone has tried to do something like this I would like to here how you approached this.

  • Hyperlinks on images in PDF from Word 2010

    I've got a Word 2010 document that I'm trying to convert to a PDF with "Save As...", preserving hyperlinks. Something odd is going on: Hyperlinks on inline text, or images that are inline, work fine. Hyperlinks on images with layout "in front of" text don't work in the PDF, same for hyperlinked drawing shapes. What I'm trying to do is make a "clickmap" image by putting an image on the page and overlaying parts of it with transparent shapes that hyperlink to different URLs. This isn't working, and the transparency has nothing to do with it - hyperlinks in the PDF seem only to work on "in line with text" elements. Am I missing something, or is there a better way to do this?

  • Word 2007 cell formatting

    I have created a form template in Word 2007 which include various fields. Some of the fields are to show time (i.e. 15:47:32). I've set the text field properties as "Date" HH:mm:ss. The trouble arises when the form is them completed. If I input 15.47.32 it correctly reverts to 15:47:32 but if I input 12.12.31 it reverts to 00:00:00. This also happens if I input 12:12:32. Please help as I've looked at this all afternoon now and it's driving me insane

  • Word 2010 doc skips pages

    A Word document with 9 pages, 3 section brakes next page (no odd and even breaks used) and inserted page numbers shows the correct sequence of pages when moving thru the document. When I change the page numbers in section 2 to start from 1 (Section 1 is only one page numbered with a roman numeral.) Then two strange things happen: The sequence in the status bar goes from 1 to 3. Page 2 disappeared (no text is missing) and my total number of pages reads 10 when i actually only have 9. The first page has a table of contents. Page 2 is listed, but when I press ctrl + click the shortcut it goes to page 4?

    I got this from php.net website. This is related to the problem I am having with tho code below. Can anyone explain me what the following does. I am using Vista. What does running Word on server implies? In order to get the Word example running, do the following on the server side. Worked for me... 1. Click START--RUN and enter "dcomcnfg" 2. In the "Applications" tab, go down to "Microsoft Word Document" 3. Click PROPERTIES button 4. Go to the "Security" Tab 5. Click "Use custom access permissions", and then click EDIT 6. Click ADD and then click SHOW USERS 7. Highlight the IIS anonymous user account (usually IUSR_), click ADD 8. Go back to the "Security" tab by hitting OK 9. Click "Use custom launch permissions", and the click EDIT 10. Click ADD and then click SHOW USERS 11. Highlight the IIS anonymous user account (usually IUSR_), click ADD 12. Hit OK, and then hit APPLY. Also, you should look at the "Identity" tab in the Microsoft Word Document PROPERTIES and see that it is set to "Interactive User" ALSO, log into the machine AS the IUSR_ account, start word, and make sure to click through the dialog boxes that Word shows the first time it is run for a certain user.   • How to improve performance of opening Microsoft Word when automated from c#?

    I have Microsoft Word template that I automated filling it’s fields from my application, and when the user request print I open this template. but creating word application every time user request print after filling fields is very expensive and lead to some delay while opening the template, so I choose to cache the reference to Word then just open the new filled template. that solve the performance issue as opening file is less expensive than recreating Word each time, but this work while the user just close the document not the entire Word application which when happened my reference to Word become invalid and return with exception says: “The RPC server is unavailable” next time request opening template . I tried to subscribe to BeforClosing event but his trigger for Quitting Word as well as Closing documents. My question is how to know if the word is closing document or quit the entire application so I take the proper action, or any hint for another direction of thinking about improve performance of opening word template.

  • Xenserver 5.5 U2 a bit unstable with an unstable W2003 VM

    In the last week I had to reboot the host system twice and the second one by means of the power button. The system is a Dell PE 6950 (4 Opteron dual core, 2,8 Ghz, 16 GB RAM, 900 GB disk in a RAID 10 array composed by 4 450GB 15000 rpm disks) with XenServer 5.5 U2. We're installing it and at now there are working in production a 2003 32 bit Windows server VM with 2 GB RAM, 3 vcpu and about 200 GB disk in 4 partition (12 GB boot, 20 GB program, 80 GB user data, 80 GB other data). The first time I was compressing many Windows 2003 folders (some tens GB by means of W2003 compressed folder option) from a Windows remote console and some hours before my colleague installed Backup Exec agent that was alredy installed and that required a reboot (that was pending). The console stopped responding, it was no more possible to connect by means of remote console or by means of the console of the XenCentre, it was still possible from the network to use the shared folder of the VM and the programs on it (2 db and a GIS program), but the print server didn't work any more and I couldn't give remote reboot from other domain controller hosts. I couldn't stop the virtual machine neither from the XenCentre, neither from the command line of the host also forcing the reboot. I had to reboot the host server. Yesterday it has been worst. I installed a template of another VM, CentOS 5.3 and then, put the DVD in the drive of the host. Then, before the install and after the boot I checked for defect the DVD and the W2003 VM began to respond slowly (I was connected by means of an administration remote console) the task manager showed only mid or low load, it is, only the first of the 3 vcpu was loaded (about 70%), while the other two were about at 20% and also the disk I/O was not so heavy. Then the users were not so happy because they couldn't any more use the MS word docs on the server. I immediately stopped the check of the DVD (to do that I had to force the stop of such Centos 5.3 VM), then some users could again use their docs, but other had still problems, so I decided to reboot the VM, but it doesn't stopped, neither from XenCenter, neither from command line, neither forcing the reboot. Then I tried to reboot of the host, but it didn't worked, neither from the XenCentre, neither from the host prompt (shutdown -r now as root: it told that it was shutting down, but then it didn't did that). So I had to power off by means of the power button of the server (before I tried some Magic SyS REQ, but I saw that Xen isn't compiled with this option enabled). What could you suggest about my problem, what can I look, search and see? In the W2003 VM logs there are no errors or warning to explain what happened.   • ColdFusion Server crash after thousands of HTTP requests

    We are running ColdFusion 8 on a windows server 2003 VPS with an API that exposes student records to a partner API through a connector. Our API returns around 50k student records serialized in XML format pretty seamlessly. My question originates when something very frightening happened today when we tested our connector to our partners API. Our entire website and web host went down. We assumed that our host was just having some issues and after 4 hours with no resolution and no response from their customer service we finally got a response from them claiming that they had an "unauthorized user" in their network. After our server was back up we were unable to connect to our website as if the web service or coldfusion itself had froze. This is really where my concern comes from as I fear we may have overloaded the web service. As I mentioned before we tried sending over 50k HTTP POST requests over to our partner's API, however everything stopped after around 1.6k Is this bad practice or is there some sort of rate limiting I can relax somewhere in server configuration? We managed to find a workaround, but it bypasses our connector which is critical to our design. This would have been a one time deal as the purpose of so many requests was to populate our partner's website with current data, after that hourly syncs will keep requests down to around 100 per hour. UPDATE Our partner API is owned and operated by Pardot. We are converting students to prospects by passing student data to their API which unfortunately only seems to accept one student at a time. For that reason we have to do all 50k requests individually. Our server has 4GB of RAM, an Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.8GHz running Windows Server 2003 SP2. I monitored the server during a 100 student sync, a 400 student sync, and a 1.4k student sync with the following results: 100 students - 2.25GB of Memory, 30-40% CPU utilization, 0.2-0.3% network bandwidth 400 students - 2.30GB of Memory, 30-50% CPU utilization, 0.2-1.0% network bandwidth 1.4k students - 2.30GB of Memory, 30-70% CPU utilization, 0.2-1.0% network bandwidth I know this is a far cry from 50k students, but I don't want to risk taking down our CMS system again assuming that was the cause.   • TCP RST Reset Every 5 Minutes on Windows 2003 sp2

    Hey, Recently I had a web developer come to me and ask why he was receiving connection errors in his app that was accessing a sql database. So, I went through my normal trouble shooting steps to isolate or reproduce the issue. I discovered that if I connected to the database using Query Analyzer and let the connection idle for 5 minutes it would disconnect. Meaning... I would no longer be able to refresh my tables or any other object/node within the object browser in Query Analyzer. I would have to right click on the instance and refresh for it to re-establish the connection. Next I went to wireshark and ran a capture on the client pc's nic card. Sure enough it was receiving a TCP RST reset every 5 min if the connection idled longer than 5 min. I also ran a capture on the SQL Server and noticed the TCP RST reset command as well. Attached below is the capture from the client Machine. If someone could please assist... That would be great. -I checked all settings within SQL Server 2000 against another server and they all seem to be the same. -Issue does not occur if I connect to any other SQL server 2000 server. -Issue does not occur if connecting to SQL on the server itself... so only over the network. -I consulted with network team and this is the response back: There are no firewalls or proxies in between SQL Server and your desktop. The traffic flows like this: Desktop-Access Switch-Distro Switch-Core Switch-Datacenter Switch-SQL Server None of the switches have security ACL’s configured on them. Also they stated that NAT was not turned on. -Issue does not occur with SQL server Enterprise Manager. -Ran SQL Profiler at the same time and did not see anything out of the ordinary during the RST I HAVE SEARCHED HIGH AND LOW ON GOOGLE FOR A RESOLUTION FOR THIS ISSUE.   • Windows Server 2003 - Handling hundreds of simultaneous downloads

    At the moment I have a single server with 4 1TB hard disks, daily I haver over 150 MP3 music files uploaded (around 80mb each). At busy periods there is over 300 people streaming / downloading these mixes all at once, 75% of the activity is on the most recently uploaded stuff which is all on a single hard disk. My read speads on the hard disk are very low due to such high activity of 200+ reads all happening at the same time on a single hard disk (ran some tests with HDTach). What would be a logical solution to solve this, a couple of ideas I had are: Load balance with another server Install faster hard disks (what are best these days? SCSI / SATA) Spread the most accessed files over the 4 drives so it is sharing the load between all 4 disks, instead of all the most accessed (most recent) all on the most recently installed drive. Obviouslly load balance is the most expensive option, but would it dramatically help? Some help on this situation would be great!

  • Can't access SQL Server 2008 from workstations, but can from server

    We have an app that can use mssql2k or 2k8. We've been using 2k but I decided to try 2k8 to compare. I installed in on our win2k3 server alongside mssql2k. In the ODBC applet on the server, I was able to set up access to 2k8, and it passes the test at the end successfully, whether I tell it to use Windows Authentication or an sql login. The latter is how the app always accessed mssql2k. The app works fine from the server, but when I try it on a workstation (winxpsp3), I get a window titled, "Microsoft SQL Server Login" that says: Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 53 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server ERror: 17 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. Then I get the ODBC login dialog, which I can't get to login correctly (I just keep getting the same error above), even copying and pasting a password after resetting it on the server, and whether "trusted" is checked or not. "Options" is disabled. The server was straight SERVERNAME for mssql2k, but for mssql2k8 it's called SERVERNAME\mssql2008. That works on the server, why not on the workstation? (Which I'm logged in as the same person on, BTW.)

  • Cannot run "Automation Anywhere" exe files from console (session 0) on Windows Server 2003 64 bit

    I have a simple exe created from an Automation Anywhere task that displays a message box saying hello world. I created this simple exe just for debugging the following issue. When I log in to the console (session 0), and run the Automation Anywhere created executable, it starts to run the task, it shows up in the applications and processes list in the task manager and it shows the two "loading..." windows briefly on the screen, just like normal. But after that, nothing happens... the "hello world" message does not show up. The exe is done and is removed from the application and process list in the task manager. The user I am logged in as, has admin rights and the machine uses "autologin" to automatically log in using this profile when it starts up. If I right click on the exe and "run as" another admin user, the exe runs properly, showing the "hello world" message. Also, if I log into the server in a new session, with the original user (the one that has the problems in session 0), and then run the exe, it runs properly and shows the "hello world". It works fine in any session other than the console session. There is something about the console session that is causing the exe not to run properly... even though it does appear to start running the exe. I should also mention that everything was working fine until Monday at midnight, after which none of the executables could be run successfully. Nothing was changed on the server and no updates were installed. I have since installed windows updates, but that didn't change anything. Looking for some advice on how to get these executables working in the console session again. Thanks!

  • How to stop Excel 2003 from loading a Gazillion files

    One of my soon-to-be-ex-friends got an Excel file from another friend of his and decided to click on it. It started opening all kinds of files from within Excel. Over 200 and still counting when he called me. I told him to go to task manager, which showed a LOT of files in the applications tab, but only one Excel.exe in the processes tab. Closing it down there, closed down Excel. I then CrossLooped in to see if I could give him a helping hand. Each time Excel was re-opened, the mass influx of files started. They were all kinds of files, PDFs, Docs, JPGs, even some spreadsheets. It looked like the end of solitaire, with multiple windows opening (XP) and the counter on the lone Excel button on the task bar counting off the files. I did the task manager exit routine and went looking for temp files. I CrapCleaned out the system. Made sure I went through the files created in the last hour and deleted anything with a temp anywhere in it. I also deleted the crappy infected/corrupted file from it's place on the desktop (yeah, I know, I yelled for 15 minutes on THAT subject). Despite a delousing, the restart of Excel, which complained of a deactivated add-in, would start the cascading windows, whether I answered yes or no to that question. Yes, it knew it had a serious crash, but why would it just keep on trying to load the bad file, even when I got rid of it? But here's the real question. WHERE was it loading from? I went through the backup folder and NOTHING was there! So what's the process for starting Excel WITHOUT it trying to do a crash recovery? Sort of makes me feel stupid at times.   • Server 2003, XP Clients, DNS issues

    Hello, Im having DNS issues on my network. My DC is my DNS server 10.76.4.11 and recently I configured a forwarder to 10.4.36.10. My workstations are not working because they cannot resolve the domain controller name because of DNS. an ipconfig /all reveals that they know the IP of the DNS server is 10.76.4.11, but if I nslookup 10.76.4.11 it forwards the request to 10.4.36.10 and goes nowhere. I have since removed the forwarder, but still any nslookup requests on workstations are going to 10.4.36.10. If I nslookup 10.76.4.11 on the server it can resolve its name, but for some reason when it receives the same request from workstations it doesnt know what to do. All the A, CNAME records etc are correct. DHCP's DNS is set correctly, GPOs are correct (even though they cant refresh cos of this problem!), the servers network adapter has its DNS set to 10.76.4.11. Just don't know. Very confused.

  • Can't get an IBM xSeries 345 server to load Windows Server 2003 using ServerGuide utility

    I have a client that has an IBM xSeries 345 eServer. Per the IBM support website, I have downloaded the ServerGuide Setup 7.4.17 installation ISO and burned a bootable CD. The CD boots fine and loads the utility. I walk through the following screens without any issue: Set the date and Time Detect the IBM ServeRAID card and install the latest firmware Clear the hard disks Set up the RAID array The next step is format the NOS partition. I select my partition size and the utility goes through the following steps: Creating NOS partition Formatting NOS partition (NTFS) Copying W32 files The copying W32 files takes about 10 minutes. I see the CD drive and disks working hard. When the copying is complete, I'm taken to a blank page just NOS Partitioning at the top. At the bottom of the screen are the familiar Back and Exit buttons. I see the place where the Next button should be, and if I click on it I can tell there is something there, but the space is empty. No button is displayed and clicking the empty spot doesn't ever take me to the next screen. I can't load the OS until I get past this part. I have already tried: Burning multiple copies and versions of the ServerGuide CD Letting the final screen just sit there over the weekend thinking it might advance after syncing the drives or something Has anybody else seen this?
