Ways to deduplicate files

I want to simply backup and archive the files on several machines. Unfortunately, the files have some large files that are the same file but stored differently on different machines. For instance, there may a few hundred photos that were copied from one computer to the other as an ad-hoc backup. Now that I want to make a common repository of files, I don't want several copies of the same photo. If I copy all of these files to a single directory, is there a tool that can go thru and recognize duplicate files and give me a list or even delete one of the duplicates?

Free batch image watermarking software

Hi everyone. I'm looking for a simple yet effective software to watermark a lot of photos in batch. I have to apply a transparent png watermark image on 400 photos. The program have to place the watermark at a custom position relative to the bottom right corner of every picture. I would have done this in photoshop, but the scriptable action doesn't allow me to do conditionnal placing if the photo is portrait or landscape. I'm looking for a free lightweigh program. Bookmarks toolbar in Firefox 29?

I love to have my favorite bookmarks (bookmarklets, and so on) on my firefox toolbar, but, surprise, in firefox 29 the toolbar is empty. I tried to use classic look restorer toolbar, but still the bookmarks toolbar is empty. When I add a new bookmark, I select "bookmark toolbar", but still is not shown on the toolbar. Should I wipe my firefox profile and try again (ugh, no, please), or it's because the firefox ui team decided that nobody likes toolbar? EDIT: I have the same problem at work, but here I don't have the permissions to uninstall and reinstall!! What can I do??? I can't just wipe my profile, because I must set up Firefox Sync in the classic way, that means I have to set up in Firefox<28 and then upgrade. When I drag bookmarks to the bookmarks tab, I get the forbidden icon (I took a photo because with a screenshot it doesn't show it)

Ultimate way to use Picasa in a home network

I've been trying a lot of approaches but still didn't find any effective solution. I want gigs of photos in a network drive (a IOMega Home Media Network Drive, plugged to my wifi router). I'd like to do 2 things: Do a Picasa import process of all the photos in the drive, making Picasa organize all the files in a year/month folder structure physically. Ideally, the import target directory should be the same network drive, otherwise I should move all the imported files in my local computer back to the drive myself. Share the Picasa database over the network, by uploading it to the network drive. Have me and other members of the family point our Picasas to the network database, and see the photos as well as make changes (tag faces, create logical albums, etc) into it. Is ANY possibility to accomplish this? Or should I be looking for another photo management app, and in that case do you know such one? Thank you!

Why does Chrome show overlapping text?

In Chrome, news articles at: http://www.theprovince.com with a leading photo and caption show the caption text overlapped with the body text. I have an image but as a new user here I'm not allowed to upload it. It happens at that site almost always, here's an example from today: http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Canucks+Blackhawks+collision+Titanic+proportions/5721421/story.html It rarely happens elsewhere. The same link works fine in Internet Explorer so I'm guessing it's a Chrome issue. It's been like this for many months, I read the site almost everyday. I click on "Print this Article" to get a proper look at it, but it's annoying, hope someone has the answer. Thanks in advance.

Android page Curl animation

Hi... Two questions: Is there a simple way to do the Curl page flipping animation? A Curl animation is animation of pages flipping, including the page above rolling and the shadows over the lower page. What is the recommended way to do a "gallery" that displays two pages at a time (just like a book)? Is it: Letting the adapter display a linear layout of two images at a time? (it won't let me show a page flipping over the other like a book) Using two pages, placing somehow one near the other, and then when it's time to animate -move the next two pages over? What is the better way that would enable displaying the left page flipping over the right page? Thanks Meymann

TTThumbsViewController + navigationController issue

Hi, .. 2 questions. I am only using Three20 for a gallery in my app. When I push my .. : TTThumbsViewController from another view, the navigation bar is not the color I want it to be (as per the rest of my app). I have set up a TTDefaultStyleSheet as per this stackoverflow QA. Is there something special I have to do as I am only using the TTThumbsViewController? The thumbs view is also created with extra space at the top, as though it is leaving room for a navigation controller, without knowing that one is already there. How can I tell the TTThumbsViewController to use the existing uinavigationcontroller? Or behave as though it is? Installing Paperclip - "undefined method `has_attached_file` for" - Ruby on Rails

I just installed the plugin for Paperclip and I am getting an error message "undefined method has_attached_file for. Not sure why I am getting this. Here is the full error message. NoMethodError (undefined method `has_attached_file' for #<Class:0x10338acd0>): /Users/bgadoci/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/will_paginate-2.3.12/lib/will_paginate/finder.rb:170:in `method_missing' app/models/post.rb:2 app/controllers/posts_controller.rb:50:in `show' For some reason it is referencing the will_paginate gem. From what I can find, it seems that either there is something wrong w/ my PostsController#index or perhaps a previously attempt at installing the gem instead of the plugin (in which case I have read I should be able to remedy through the /config/environments.rb file somehow). I didn't think that previous gem installation would matter as I did it in an old version of the site that I trashed before installing the plugin. In the current version of the site I show that the Table has been updated with the Paperclip columns after migration. Hi All, We are using fusion charts for time based gantt charts. But these charts are not getting displayed as they require flash plug-in which is not supproted by iPhone. Android: Easiest way to make a WebView display a Bitmap?

I have some images that I loaded from a remote source stored in Bitmap variables and I want to display them. In addition to switching between these images the user should also be able to zoom and pan them. My first idea was to somehow pass them via an intent to the built-in gallery application but this doesn't seem to be possible. A solution that is suggested in several places is using a WebView since it already supports zooming and panning. My question is how does my Bitmap data get into the WebView? Do I have to write it to a file first, which I would have to remove again later, or is there an easier way? Or are there even better ways to accomplish my main goal, which is displaying Bitmap data as zoomable and panable images?

Django pagination | get current index of paginated item in page index, (not the page index range its

I am trying to build a photo gallery with Django. It is set up by category. I have paginated the results of a category by n amount of images per page. I want to also use the paginator on the page that shows just the single image and have a prev/next button for the prev/next image in that category. My thought was to get the current index for the image itself and have that be the link to the /category/CUR_IMG_ID_PAGINATION_LIST/ as the result of paginating the entire set would yield the same index as the current image index in the paginated results. For instance if the image i want is image 45 out of 150 images total for a category, then when i paginate the 150 images the 45 will be the actual number of the page I want. If there's an easier way to do this, let me know. Django 1.1

What's viewport mean to the jQuery guys?

I came here intent on asking a 'how do i' type question focused on a particular UI problem i have to solve and i started using the term 'viewport'. Seems there's lots of contexts that tag evokes. Before i outline mine i should ask - is there a generally recognized consensus as to what a 'viewport' is? Any gallery or object browser that focuses on a UI principle where multiple frames/panes show feeds of different graphs where each feed might be a complex grid/graph? I'm imagining something where my page may open with a half dozen different grids (tabular data) stay updated via ajax interactions with various servers. UI elements provide control scale up or down a given grid with a quasi accordion slide kinda thingie. For example, one click on a scale up-or-down control would rescale the other viewports in the opposite direction. More clicks - more pronounced effect. So my 'how do i' question morphs into a 'how have others...' thx

CakePHP: find neighbors, order on 'name' or 'order'

Hi, I have a list of ordered items, ordered according to the int field order. I'm creating a gallery in CakePHP 1.2 that has a prev and next button and those should link to the previous and next item according to their ordering, not according to their id. In order to get this result I've included the 'order' parameter to the find function, and populated it with 'Item.order'=>'DESC'. Still the result is an id ordered list. My question is: what do I do wrong? My controller: $this->Item->id = 16; $neighbours = $this->Item->find('neighbors', array('order'=>array('Item.order'=>'DESC'), 'fields'=>array('id','name')));

Android Image Orientation Issue on Motorola Droid

Hi there, Our app uses the gallery pick action to grab an image from the device to upload to a new blog post. We're seeing on the Moto Droid that images taken in portrait are being sent back to the app in landscape orientation so the image is sideways. AFAIK this only occurs on the Droid. Found this via google, but we need the full size image to be uploaded in the correct orientation so the solution doesn't work for us: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_frm/thread/1246475fd4c3fdb6?pli=1 An easy way to reproduce this is to take a picture in portrait on the Droid, then send it to yourself via Gmail. In the email message, the image will be in landscape (sideways). I've tested on the droid 2.1 update and the issue is still there.

Running in to some issues with Tumblr's Theme Parser

Below part of a tumblr theme I'm working on and you will notice that I use the {block:PostType} syntax to declare the opening tag of each post, which is a <li> element in an Ordered List. This allows me to not only dynamicly set the li's class based on the type of post but cuts down on the number of times I'm calling the ShareThis JS which was really bogging down the page. This creates a new issue though which I believe is a flaw in Tumblr's parser. Each post is an ordered list with one <li> element in it. I know I could solve this by having each post as a <div> but I really like the control and semantics of using a list. Tumblr gurus? Suggestions? One admin for multiple sites

I have two sites with different SITE_IDs, but I want to have only one admin interface for both sites. On http://site1.com/admin/ I see flatpages for site1, on http://site2.com/admin/ I see flatpages for site2. But I want to see all pages in http://site1.com/admin/ interface! What am I doing wrong?

jQuery.load() Retrieving partial page content causes duplicate ID in DOM

Hello all, I currently have a JS function that allows me to load partial content from another page into the current page using jQuery.load() However I noticed when using this that I get a duplicate ID in the DOM (when inspecting with FireBug) This function is used in conjuction with a Flash Building viewe so it does not contain any code to retrieve the URL from the anchor tag. function displayApartment(apartmentID) { $("#apartmentInfo").load(siteURL + apartmentID + ".aspx #apartmentInfo", function () { //re-do links loaded in $("a.gallery").colorbox({ opacity: "0.5" }); }); } The code above works just fine in retrieving the content, however it just bugs me that when inspecting with firebug I get something like this. <div id="apartmentInfo"> <div id="apartmentInfo">  </div> </div> Can anyone please suggest anything on how to remove the duplicate div? mysql good way of programing

i have the video gallery in my database, which has over 200 000 videos. in my home page in the site i show exactly some videos, which must satisfy to some criteria. and so, what is the question. is it a good way to sort videos every time the home page opene, or i must save the sort results somewhere in the database, and refresh them only if something change. i think it can save me a lot of time. what you think about it. thanks in advance.

Find/Replace but Increment Value

Hello, I have an .HTML file that has many photos attached to it for displaying a photo gallery. I'm replacing old photos with new ones, and I'm thinking there must be a more intelligent way than simply copying and pasting repetitive file names. I would love to be able to replace and increment a file name on each replace, starting at a base file name of my choosing. For example... ...images/69thStreet010.jpg ...images/69thStreet011.jpg ...images/69thStreet012.jpg Basically performing a CTRL+F and REPLACE '69thStreet010.jpg' with... ...images/xyz001.jpg ...images/xyz002.jpg ...images/xyz003.jpg And so on until I want it to stop. Really, really trying to find a plugin that gives adds functionality to the image-resize functions in Wordpress's WYSIWYG editor. Something where the use of 'Gallery' is not mandatory – just an upload straight from the post editor. In a post, when an image is linked to from another site, there are less options – unlike when an image is uploaded. • You can resize, but it's 100%, 110%, 120%, 130% ....Instead of thumbnail, large, medium, etc, when you upload. •These dimension rarely match the dimensions needed. I know you can type in the W x H in the advanced tab, but my quest to find a better solution is really for the clients using the site. If anyone knows a solution / plugin / modification for this, I'd love to hear it!!

HTML5 video on iPad

I have a dynamic video gallery and it works great on a computer. When moving to an iPad, the video starts loading and it shows the cannot play icon. Instead of this I'd rather the video not show until it's ready to play. I have tried to add events listeners for "canplaythrough" and "canplay" and when they occur for the video to fade in then play. Add title to jQuery Cycle slideshow from Alt attribute?

I am building a slideshow and need to have a title appear for each picture that get cycled. I created alt attributes for them and am trying to have cycle display them for each image, but It only shows the first one. I am unsure how to get the code I have into the cycle "loop" for the gallery?
