  • `gem install mongrel` fails with ruby 1.9.1

    - by atlantis
I initiated myself into rails development yesterday. I installed ruby 1.9.1, rubygems and rails. Running gem install mongrel worked fine and ostensibly installed mongrel too. I am slightly puzzled because: script/server starts webrick by default which mongrel returns nothing locate mongrel returns lots of entries like /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.5.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/mongrel-1.0.1 /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.5.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/mongrel-1.0.1/lib /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.5.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/mongrel-1.0.1/lib/mongrel . . . /usr/local/bin/mongrel_rails /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/cache/mongrel-1.1.5.gem /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/doc/actionpack-2.3.2/rdoc/files/lib/action_controller/vendor/rack-1_0/rack/handler/evented_mongrel_rb.html /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/doc/actionpack-2.3.2/rdoc/files/lib/action_controller/vendor/rack-1_0/rack/handler/mongrel_rb.html /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/doc/actionpack-2.3.2/rdoc/files/lib/action_controller/vendor/rack-1_0/rack/handler/swiftiplied_mongrel_rb.html /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/actionpack-2.3.2/lib/action_controller/vendor/rack-1.0/rack/handler/evented_mongrel.rb /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/actionpack-2.3.2/lib/action_controller/vendor/rack-1.0/rack/handler/mongrel.rb /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/actionpack-2.3.2/lib/action_controller/vendor/rack-1.0/rack/handler/swiftiplied_mongrel.rb /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/mongrel-1.1.5 . . . Does look like I have mongrel installed (both the default installation and my custom install). So why doesn't which mongrel return something. Also trying to reinstall mongrel using gem install mongrel returns throws its own set of exceptions: Building native extensions. This could take a while... • How to add XML elements into the toolbox in Visual Studio 2010 RC

    - by Alex Marshall
I'm trying to edit an XML schema in Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate RC, but when I go to the toolbox (with the schema open and focused) there's absolutely nothing in the Toolbox view, even when every tutorial out there that I've read tells me that there should be. I've tried using the context menu option for resetting the Toolbox to no effect. Is there something I'm missing ? Something I need to install to get this feature of Visual Studio going ?

  • How does changing armv6/armv7 architecture to armv6 affect my iPad app? Will there be performance/st

    - by Flocked
Hello, I need to change the the architectures of "Any iPhone OS Device" from "Optimized (armv6 armv7)" to "Standard (armv6)" for a library. I'm not exactly sure what effect will this have on the performance and stability of my iPad app. If I understand it right, the iPad has the armv7 architecture. I'm not so familiar with architectures, so I don't know what it means.

  • Sort algorithm with fewest number of operations

    - by luvieere
What is the sort algorithm with fewest number of operations? I need to implement it in HLSL as part of a pixel shader effect v2.0 for WPF, so it needs to have a really small number of operations, considering Pixel Shader's limitations. I need to sort 9 values, specifically the current pixel and its neighbors.

  • Floats in CSS - Gap/space left on top when floated to the right?

    - by bobthabuilda
This is a little difficult to describe, but basically there is undesired space left by a floated div on my page. Here are pictures describing the problem. The black boxes are divs. Before floating: After floating: Desired effect: And I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but I also have an empty div with "clear: both" placed immediately after the floated div. How can I achieve this?

  • UIView "suck" animation

    - by igul222
I'd like to use the UIView "sucking" transition (view is "sucked" into a point) referenced here: http://iphonedevwiki.net/index.php/UIViewAnimationState#Using_suckEffect The method above, however, uses private APIs, which makes it next to useless for an App Store app. How can I recreate a similar effect without relying on private APIs? I'm guessing the answer has to do with OpenGL, although I have zero experience there.

  • animated scroll

    - by Happy
Using scrollTo plugin to animate scroll effect: http://plugins.jquery.com/project/ScrollTo http://demos.flesler.com/jquery/scrollTo/ Tryed this code: $(".top-scroll").hover(function(){ $("body").scrollTo($(".top-corner"), 2000); },function(){ $("body").stop().scrollTo(); }); It must start to scroll when we hover .top-scroll block (mouseover) and stop when we hover it out (mouseleave). Start works, stop - not. How to fix? Thanks.

  • c# winForms toolTip forever

    - by jello
Do you guys know how to set a toolTip that doesn't go away as long as you're hovering on the control? I tried setting the "AutoPopDelay" to 999999, but the tooltip disappears after 15 seconds. Or, do you know of another way to achieve the same effect?

  • What is SocketOptionName.ReuseAddress used for?

    - by Hemant
I used to think that using SocketOptionName.ReuseAddress, I can reuse a port that is in TIME_WAIT state. But I tried to experiment with it and it seems it has no effect. If I check sockets using netstat, and it shows the socket is in TIME_WAIT state and I immediately run the client again, I get the exception: Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted 172.16.16.16:12345 I cannot make anything out of it. Please can you elaborate what SocketOptionName.ReuseAddress is good for?

  • JavaScript Image zoom with CSS3 Transforms, How to calculate Origin? (with example)

    - by Sunday Ironfoot
    I'm trying to implement an image zoom effect, a bit like how the zoom works with Google Maps, but with a grid of fix position images. I've uploaded an example of what I have so far here: http://www.dominicpettifer.co.uk/Files/MosaicZoom.html (uses CSS3 transforms so only works with Firefox, Opera, Chrome or Safari) Use your mouse wheel to zoom in/out. The HTML source is basically an outer div with an inner-div, and that inner-div contains 16 images arranged using absolute position. It's going to be a Photo Mosaic basically. I've got the zoom bit working using CSS3 transforms: $(this).find('div').css('-moz-transform', 'scale(' + scale + ')'); ...however, I'm relying on the mouse X/Y position on the outer div to zoom in on where the mouse cursor is, similar to how Google Maps functions. The problem is that if you zoom right in on an image, move the cursor to the bottom/left corner and zoom again, instead of zooming to the bottom/left corner of the image, it zooms to the bottom/left of the entire mosaic. This has the effect of appearing to jump about the mosaic as you zoom in closer while moving the mouse around, even slightly. That's basically the problem, I want the zoom to work exactly like Google Maps where it zooms exactly to where your mouse cursor position is, but I can't get my head around the Maths to calculate the transform-origin: X/Y values correctly. Please help, been stuck on this for 3 days now. Here is the full code listing for the mouse wheel event: var scale = 1; $("#mosaicContainer").mousewheel(function(e, delta) { if (delta > 0) { scale += 1; } else { scale -= 1; } scale = scale < 1 ? 1 : (scale > 40 ? 40 : scale); var x = e.pageX - $(this).offset().left; var y = e.pageY - $(this).offset().top; $(this).find('div').css('-moz-transform', 'scale(' + scale + ')') .css('-moz-transform-origin', x + 'px ' + y + 'px'); return false; });

  • jquery effects (show)

    - by matthewsteiner
Is there a way to just have something "show"? I know there's the effect called show, but I mean something with no animation. I know I could make the speed way fast or something. Or I could change the css from hidden or something. But does someone know of a built in method that does that? Same with "hide".

  • Accessing underlying managed object through a COM interface

    - by mfeingold
I have a third party assembly with a public abstract class implementing a certain COM interface. Something to the effect of [ComVisible(true)] public abstract class SomeClass: ISomeInterface { .... public void Method1() {...} } The actual object is an internal object extending the SomeClass and is instantiated by the third party code Is there a way to access public methods of this class if all I have is the CCW to the ISomeInterface?

  • How can I set up JQuery autocomplete like Stackoverflow's tags input field?

    - by d03boy
I'm using PHP and I've never really done anything with Javascript or JQuery or AJAX. I'm just wondering if there are any available solutions to accomplish the same effect of auto-completion that SO uses for entering tags. There are plugins which can handle one word but I haven't seen any that handles multiple words. Also, I hear JQuery is hosted on google code. Is it a good or bad idea to link directly from that?
