• Getting SharePoint absolute site url

  I need to get the current absolute url of my site from inside an aspx page (no codebehind). I tried $SPUrl, but it get's converted into a relative url. <asp:Literal runat="server" text="<% $SPUrl:~Site/mypage.aspx %>" /> results in "/mypage.aspx". It's important that I get the full absolute url starting with "http://". <asp:Literal runat="server" text="<% $SPUrl:~SiteCollection/mypage.aspx %>" /> does the same. The goal is to get this url: "http://myspweb.com/mypage.aspx" as result.

• SharePoint use for web application

  Hi - we are looking at developing a web application that allows users (some subscribed (authenticated) and some not (browsing)). We would like some basic document management, a wiki, a blog etc. and do not expect the app to be heavily used (DB size not an issue at this stage). I require the GUI to be customised to our corporate style and we access to .net development skills which we would like to leverage to develop the application. With this in mind I have the follwoing 3 questions: Is WSS 3.0 / SPF 2010 the correct framework to be building this app on? What are the licensing terms or are these frameworks similar to the .Net framework that once installed on our host server we can use the base services provided to develop our apps on? I hope this makes sense & thanks in advance for any responses.

• Creating a sub site in SharePoint takes a very long time

  Hi, I am working in a MOSS 2007 project and have customized many parts of it. There is a problem in the production server where it takes a very long time (more than 15 minutes, sometimes fails due to timeouts) to create a sub site (even with the built-in site templates). While in the development server, it only takes 1 to 2 minutes. Both servers are having same configuration with 8 cores CPU and 8 GIGs RAM. Both are using separate database servers with the same configuration. The content db size is around 100 GB. More than a hundred subsites are there. What could be the reason why in the other server it will take so much time? Is there any configuration or something else I need to take care? Thanks a lot, all helps are appreciated.

  I am creating a booking module using MOSS 2007.What i would like to know is that is it possible to create a webart that will show only the Daily view ,which will be connected to the central Calender.. Basically what im trying to achieve is this. Each Room must have its own webpart that shows the bookings only associated with that room,so ultimately you might have two rooms that are booked at 8:PM(Same Day) showing on the central Booking calender.....   I have these models: class Address < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :event attr_accessible :street, :city validates :street, :city, :presence => true end class Event < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :address accepts_nested_attributes_for :address end If I do the below assignment in the Events create action and save the event I get an error: #Use the current user's address for the event @event.address_attributes = current_user.address.attributes #Error occurs at the above mentioned line ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound (Couldn't find Address with ID=1 for Event with ID=) I think what's happening is that all the address's attributes (including the primary key) is getting assigned in the @event.address_attributes = line. But all I really want is the "real data" (street, city), not the primary keys or created_at etc to get copied over. I suppose I could write a small method to do this sort of selective copy but I can't help but feel there must be some built-in method for this? What's the best/right way to do this?

  Hello, is it possible to return exemplar of object using passed type name (string) in c++? I have some base abstract class Base and a few derivates. Example code: class Base { /* ... */ }; class Der1 : public Base { /* ... */ }; class Der2 : public Base { /* ... */ }; And I need function like: Base *objectByType(const std::string &name); Number of derivates classes are changeable and I don't want to make something like switching of name and returning by hands new object type. Is it possible in c++ to do that automatically anyway? p.s. usage should looks like: dynamic_cast<Der1>(objectByType("Der1")); I need pure c++ code (crossplatform). Using boost is permissible.

  I am considering doing a project which would provide unified API and tools (import/export, etc.) for object databases (e.g. Caché, Objectivity) for .NET. It would provide: schema generation from CLR classes, generation of C# classes from given OODBMs schema, API for deleting, creating and updating objects, Linq provider, API for calling object's methods on DB server, some of OODBMs provide some kind of SQL support, so API for this, providers for Caché and Objectivity in first phase. Does any project which implements any of above exist? Can this be achieved with NHibernate dialects? or are OODBMs so different than RDBMs that it worth doing separate framework for them?

• PowerShell One Liner: Duplicating a folder structure in a Sharepoint document library

  I was asked by someone at work the other day, if it was possible in Sharepoint to create a set of top level folders in one document library based on the set of folders in another library. One document library has a set of top level folders that is basically a client list and we needed to create the same top level folders in another library. I knew that it was possible to open a Sharepoint document library in explorer using a UNC style path and that you could map a drive using a technique like this one: http://www.endusersharepoint.com/2007/11/16/can-i-map-a-document-library-as-a-mapped-drive/. But while explorer would let us copy the folders, it would also take all of the folder contents too, which was not what we wanted. So I figured that some sort of PowerShell script was probably the way to go and it turned out to be even easier than I thought. The following script did it in one line, so I thought I would post it here in my "online memory". :) dir "\\sharepoint\client documents" | where {$_.PSIsContainer} | % {mkdir "\\sharepoint\admin documents\$($_.Name)"} I use "dir" to get a listing from the source folder, pipe it through "where" to get only objects that are folders and then do a foreach (using the % alias) and call "mkdir".

  Problem     Yesterday on Twitter my friend @cacallahan asked for some help on how she could get all SharePoint 2010 SPShellAdmin users and the associated database name.  I spent a few minutes and wrote up a script that gets this information and decided I’d post it here for others to enjoy.     Background     The Get-SPShellAdmin commandlet returns a listing of SPShellAdmins for the given database Id you pass in, or the farm configuration database by default.  For those unfamiliar, SPShellAdmin access is necessary for non-admin users to run PowerShell commands against a SharePoint 2010 farm (content and configuration databases specifically).  Click here to read an excellent guest post article my friend John Ferringer (twitter) wrote on the Hey Scripting Guy! blog regarding granting SPShellAdmin access.  Solution     Below is the script I wrote (formatted for space and to include comments) to provide the information needed.
