  • Best way to compare (diff) a full directory structure?

    Hi, What's the best way to compare directory structures? I have a backup utility which uses rsync. I want to tell the exact differences (in terms of file sizes and last-changed dates) between the source and the backup. Something like: Local file Remote file Compare /home/udi/1.txt (date)(size) /home/udi/1.txt (date)(size) EQUAL /home/udi/2.txt (date)(size) /home/udi/2.txt (date)(size) DIFFERENT Of course, the tool can be ready-made or an idea for a python script.   • May the file size returned by stat be compromised?

    I want to make sure that nobody changed a file. In order to accomplish that, I want not only to check MD5 sum of the file, but also check its size, since as far as I understand this additional simple check can sophisticate falsification by several digits. May I trust the size that stat returns? I don't mean if changes were made to stat itself. I don't go that deep. But, for instance, may one compromise the file size that stat returns by hacking the directory file? Or by similar means, that do not require superuser privileges? It's Linux.

  • IIS FTP - Users Last Logon

    How would you determine the last FTP logon time/date for a bunch of local user accounts on a DMZ (standalone/workgroup) server running IIS FTP? I know I could use a log aggregator and sift through it that way, but this server has been operational for approximately 8 years and I don't fancy that vector. I have also tried the scripting route, but this is of no use because the users have never actually logged onto the machine, so there's no profile (rendering the WMI classes *WIN32_UserAccount* and *WIN32_UserProfile* useless). They're just used to access the FTP service. Thanks in advance

    Mesh has been created properly using SlimDX,but when I use the following line: Mesh.ToXFile(barMesh, "foo.x", XFileFormat.Text,CharSet.Unicode); It throws NullReferenceException,through monitor window I can see barMesh is not null, inside the mesh structrue, SkinInfo is null. If SkinInfo is the problem,then how can I initialize it properly?Internet doesn't seems have much information on this.

    On a Windows 2008 R2, using DNS and IIS I've established my development test server; i.e. I'll have a web application that I can browse on http://test.dev I've moved all the static content files like images, js files and css files into another application which is visible on http://cdn.test.dev test.dev, uses cdn.test.dev urls like http://cdn.test.dev/js/jquery.js to load js, css and images. When I first load "~/" of test.dev, all files will load with a response code of 200; when I press F5 in Firefox, all files, except the "~/default.aspx", will load with 304 response code; but pressing Ctrl+F5 loads them again with a 200 code; if I browse another url like "~/pages/" in test.dev, all of those static files will reload with a 200 code... Is this normal or I'm doing something wrong? Actually, I'm looking for a behavior like this: I want the client to load http://cdn.test.dev/js/jquery.js, only once. I want the client's browser to use this jquery.js file, from cache, in all other pages of test.dev Is this possible?   • Unable to log iptables

    I'm having trouble getting iptables to log to any file. My iptables looks like: Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT 1366 packets, 433582 bytes) pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination 869 60656 LOG icmp -- venet0 * 0.0.0.0/0 0.0.0.0/0 LOG flags 0 level 7 Syslogd is the only log helper running. The default syslog.conf didn't work, so I tried adding "kern.=debug -/var/log/iptables.log". But the file already has "kern.* -/var/log/kern.log". There are recent syslog entries, so it's not a permissions thing. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04.1 with 2.6.32-042stab061.2

    I installed XBMC and it's working beautifully. I have my own skin I'd like to use and all I should have to do is copy and past my skin.folder into the addons folder and I'm down. However, this isn't so easy with Ubuntu. I have the latest version, installed today 11-14-2012 Could someone please spell out the command process to make this happen? I've read through so many forums, tried ssh, I know now I'm getting into things that could be dangerous so any help would be much appreciated.   • Outlook 2010 - Export of an Exchange OST to PST creates files with different sizes each time

    This is a most weird issue. I have a couple of exchange OST mailboxes, and just for security, I am exporting them using File / Import / Export to a file / Export to PST file. If I run the export consecutively, it always creates files with different file sizes, WITH NO ERROR OR WARNING that something went wrong. The files should be of the same size as you run it right after the previous backup finished. I found out that if the filesize is substantially lower, then a reboot and back up can fix this up. What's your insight into this problem? What could cause that the files have different sizes and what could have caused that there is no warning? I suspected some Windows Search issue as sometimes the backup fails with a dialog error stating that Windows Search terminated the export.

  • Deleted one membership table. Possible to import without breaking relationship?

    Hey, I hope this isn't going to be tricky/time consuming, so fingers crossed. I'm working with the ASP.NET membership table. However, I've got quite a few other tables that I've built, and most of them have a relationship with the dbo.aspnet_Membership table. I've accidentally deleted the dbo.aspnet_Membership table and can't get it back. There was no major data on it, (as it's on my local machine), but I would really like to copy and paste that one table from another database I have, mainly for the sake of not breaking the schema. Is this possible? I'm worried if I run the Aspnet_regsql.exe tool, it's going to break the schema and remove all data from the tables as well the relationships (which would take a while to re-establish). Is there any way I can import just the dbo.aspnet_Membership table into my current database? Thanks for the any advice!

  • Webserver: Performance impact when storing session files on /dev/shm

    I have a website runing on a typical setup: Linux, Apache, PHP, MySQL. However, what's not typical about it, is that it's getting tons of traffic (400,000+ visits a day) and so, efficiency is becoming more and more important to me. I'm constantly looking for things I could optimize and, right now, my attention is focused on PHP's session files. There's a hell lot of session files constantly being read and created on the /tmp directory. So my question is: Is it a good idea to store the session files in /dev/shm (tmpfs) in order to speed things up a little bit??

    I would like to access a folder of mp3 files on my local Windows machine through http:// addresses. For example, typing http://localhost:9999/songs/test.mp3 into my browser would play test.mp3, which sits in a specified folder on my C: drive. What is the very simplest way to do this? (Background: a program I'm using wants me to enter the URLs of these files, but assumes they are remote and accessed over http. It doesn't accept URLs of the form file://C/Users.... So, I'd like to give these local files addresses that makes them "look" remote.)

    Hi We need to set up a website which makes two or three large files publicly available - the files will be 1 or 2 terrabytes each. Although they will be public, in practise I expect only a relatively small number of scientists will want to download them. What is the best way to allow this? I've had a quick talk to a web-hosting provider (rackspace) and they suggested a hybrid solution. An entry-level managed server (we predict fairly low traffic for the website, but we do need to install some custom CGI software). Some cloud storage which hooks into Limelight Networks. This would host the large files, for download by FTP. It sounded OK to me but I know relatively little about server administration. Does it make sense? Thanks in advance, Mark

    Help! I'm Using Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion and Using Eclipse. I'm using the library called Slick and Lwjgl. When i first exported it, it has a .jar file. I followed some You Tube Tutorials (Different, they don't have slick) It worked for them. I don't know why it dosen't work for me. Should i put Slick-util too? I didn't even use lwjgl btw. Please help!!!     I am trying to force all traffic on my web site to use HTTPS, using the URL Rewrite 2.0 module added to IIS 7.5. I got that working and now have a need to exclude a couple of pages from using SSL. So I need a rule to rewrite all URL except those referencing this folder to HTTPS. I've been banging my head against the wall on this and am hoping someone can help.   • Inkscape won't open .cdr files

    Hello I'm running Kubuntu 12.04 and I've installed Inkscape because I need to edit a .cdr file, Inkscape works like normal but the sole task I need it to do is edit said .cdr file which I understand it should be capable off by default. Whenever I try to open the file though I get the following error: UniConvertor failed: The eror itself is longer but what it seems to be saying that it can't find this application, and I myself haven't found it in the package manager. If someone has experienced something similar or has a simple solution for editing cdr's I'm no artist I just need to change some names, I would be very gratefull. The full error.

    Hi, I am baffled by some entries in my server logs, specifically the web-server logs. Other than normal, expected traffic, I have noticed three types of request errors (eg 404, etc.): Broken links, ie links from old, external pages that point to pages that are no longer here Sequences of probes, ie some jerk trying to hack in by scanning my server for a series of exploitable admin type pages and such What appear to be completely random requests for things that have never existed on the server or even have anything to do with the server, and appear by themselves (ie not a series of requests like the probes) Could it somehow be a mistyped URL or IP? That’s about the only thing that I can think of, but still, how could I get a request on say, foobar.dyndns.org (12.34.56.78) for something like www.wantsfly.com/prx2.php or /MNG/LIVE or http://ant.dsabuse.com/abc.php?auth=45V456b09m&strPassword=X%5BMTR__CBZ%40VA&nLoginId=43. (Those are a few actual requests from my logs.) Can someone please explain scenario three to me? Thanks.

    I am considering partitioning a rather large hard drive with the UDF filesystem for an experiment, and would like to ask if anyone knows the maximum number of files, either by directory, or as a whole, that the UDF filesystem can handle? For some background, I looked at the JFS and XFS filesystems (NTFS has a limitation of the number of files per volume); however, since I run Windows, that's kind of out. UFD, on the other hand, does not appear to have these limitations, but then, I cannot really find any information on just how many files per volume the UDF file system supports.
