  I am using a telerik radgrid so there are around 5 columns each column edittemplate contains a control along with a required field validator and also a property called AllowMultiRowEdit is set to true so i am able to multiple rows in edit mode. If any of the values are cleared the for multiple rows I want only those to be validated on update of that particular row. So i implemented the Grids item data bound event find each and every validator along with the update button and set a unique validation group. The above implementation most times but fails at some time. Is there any other way of going about this ?

  Hi experts, In tab container let say I have two tabs [Tab1 & Tab2] Tab1 has 2 text box with required field validator Tab2 has 3 text box with required field validator Now even if I am filling all the text boxes in the TAB1, it is not allowing me to postback. [because TAB2 text boxes are still empty] & When I am filling all the textboxes [Both Tab1 & Tab2], button is firing correctly. How to avoid this ?? I mean user has to fill details for the TAB1 & can submit the details. At that Time I don't want TAB2 validations to work. Please help & kindly let me know if anything else is required.

  I am validating my site using validator.w3.org and have an issue where there is a & in my link description text. ie this is taken from the source <a class='tag' href='/php/iphone software.php?function=developer&amp;dev=witch%26wizards+inc.&amp;store=143441'>witch&wizards inc.</a> Which gives me this error in the validator Line 188, Column 540: cannot generate system identifier for general entity "wizards" …6wizards+inc.&store=143441'witch&wizards inc. If I urlencode the description then the validation passes, but the user then sees the text displayed urlencoded, ie Developer witch%26wizards+inc. However I believe it's much more user friendly if this was displayed unencoded, ie Developer witch&wizards inc. Is there a way to pass validation but still have user friendly text displayed? • jQuery Validation Plugin - Enable 'Eager' Validation only after and Invalid Submit

  By default, if a user enters a value in a field, the 'eager' validation kicks in. Is there any way to disable 'eager' validation before submit and then enable it after an invalid submit has happened? I've used $.validator.setDefaults() to initially set the onkeyup and onfocusout properties to false. In the invalidHandler method I rerun the $.validator.setDefaults(), setting onkeyup and onfocusout properties to true. No luck with this approach. Basically, I only want the 'eager' validation to take place after the user tries to submit an invalid form. Thanks for any help.

  I'm validating the installation of a program that consists of a few separate modules. They are not co-dependent. I have apple.jar and orange.jar, they are placed in the same folder and were developed in the same project, but run independent of each other.   I'm setting up a HTML5 webpage and want to include RDFa. I try checking the syntax with the w3 validator, and check the extracted RDF using the w3 RDFa distiller. When I declare namespaces using xmlns:<ns>="<uri>" the validator complains that the attribute is not allowed there, and the specs say that xmlns is deprecated, but if I try the other suggested prefix="<ns> <uri>" the distiller doesn't discover the RDFa embedded on my page. Which way should I stick to?

  I need your help to understand this better. This is my case. I have a custom validator for each of my input controls in the form. So when there is any validation error,I add a corresponding FacesMessage in the validate method. My understanding was that when there is any validation error - or when there are any FacesMessages added in the validate method of the Custom Validator, it would skip the INVOKE APPLICATION phase and would directly call the RENDER RESPONSE PHASE - showing the FacesMessage that was added in the PROCESS VALIDATION Phase - Is this correct? The problem I'm facing is - I add a FacesMessage in the PROCESS VALIDATION Phase - because of a validation error - and I add a confirmation message for the action that was taken by the user in the INVOKE APPLICATION PHASE - Now both are shown in the page in the RENDER RESPONSE Phase ? - If my understanding is correct in the above question - is it the best practice to conditionally add a confirmation FacesMessage after confirming that there are no FacesMessages in the currect FacesContext ? Appreciate your help.

For example: If I have a class with these annotated properties [Required] public string Name { get; set; } [Required] public string PhoneNumber { get; set; } [Required] public string Address { get; set; } I would like to be able to do something like bool namePhoneValid = Validator.TryValidateObject(entity, contextNamePhone, results1); bool allValid = Validator.TryValidateObject(entity, contextAll, results2); where contextNamePhone only validates Name and Phone, and contextAll validates all properties (Name, Phone and Address in this case). Is this possible? How should the validation context be constructed? Are there other/smarter ways to do this?

I'm working on an ASP.NET/C# app. I have 2 text boxes and I need to validate if the input text for both of them are not both null ex: if(string.IsNullOrEmpty(TextBox1.Text) && string.IsNullOrEmpty(TextBox2.Text) ) //FAIL!!! else // OK! that is, at least one txtBox has values I was planning on using a custom validator but it seems that the validation function only gets called when something is written on the textBox i'm using has the 'control to validate'. Now, that doesn't work for me since I want to show an error message when both text boxes are empty. Is there a way to make the validation function to be called with, for example a postback? Or is there any other better approach to this case than the custom validator? tks

• What's causing this background-image to display "incorrectly" in Opera and Firefox?

  I know this is something I'm probably doing wrong, so please don't incinerate me for the thread title. I'm trying to put together a small personal website using HTML 5/CSS3. I've checked with the w3c validator and the site and CSS file fully conform according to the validator (However the validator has a warning attached that it might not be perfect). I'm not sure how to explain it without a picture, so here's a comparison of Chrome/Opera/Firefox: So, you can sorta see how in Chrome the background image is in one non-repeating piece, whereas in Opera/Firefox the image has, oddly, been broken up and placed slightly differently. I'm confident this is due to an error on my part, but I've had no luck at all figuring out why the image is being mangled in Opera and Firefox. I'm delivering a site to a client and I want to send them high-quality HTML/CSS/JS, fully validated, accessible etc. So I'm compiling a list of things to check, and useful tools for doing so, before I hand the code over. Here's a partial list, but what am I missing? Link checking for any broken links I might have missed - W3C link checker HTML validation for accessibility and broken-ness - W3C HTML validator CSS validation - W3C CSS validator Check for slow-loading page elements - Firebug and YSlow plugin What's missing - if you were a client, what else would you want to be sure has been checked? I'm wondering about the etiquette of things like comments, indentation, and minification; is it good practice to sort out all these? And what else have I missed? Thanks :)

  I want to build an object model that automatically wires in validation when I attempt to save an object. I am using DataAnnotations for my validation, and it all works well, but I think my inheritance is whacked. I am looking here for some guidance on a better way to wire in my validation. So, to build in validation I have this interface public interface IValidatable { bool IsValid { get; } ValidationResponse ValidationResults { get; } void Validate(); } Then, I have a base class that all my objects inherit from. I did a class because I wanted to wire in the validation calls automatically. The issue is that the validation has to know the type of the class is it validating. So I use Generics like so. public class CoreObjectBase<T> : IValidatable where T : CoreObjectBase<T> { #region IValidatable Members public virtual bool IsValid { get { // First, check rules that always apply to this type var result = new Validator<T>().Validate((T)this); // return false if any violations occurred return !result.HasViolations; } } public virtual ValidationResponse ValidationResults { get { var result = new Validator<T>().Validate((T)this); return result; } } public virtual void Validate() { // First, check rules that always apply to this type var result = new Validator<T>().Validate((T)this); // throw error if any violations were detected if (result.HasViolations) throw new RulesException(result.Errors); } #endregion } So, I have this circular inheritance statement. My classes look like this then: public class MyClass : CoreObjectBase<MyClass> { } But the problem occurs when I have a more complicated model. Because I can only inherit from one class, when I have a situation where inheritance makes sense I believe the child classes won't have validation on their properties. public class Parent : CoreObjectBase<Parent> { //properties validated } public class Child : Parent { //properties not validated? } I haven't really tested the validation in these cases yet, but I am pretty sure that anything in child with a data annotation on it will not be automatically validated when I call Child.Validate(); due to the way the inheritance is configured. Is there a better way to do this?

  For my ASP.NET MVC application I've created custom validation attribute, and indicated that more than one instance of it can be specified for a single field or property: [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Field | AttributeTargets.Property, AllowMultiple = true)] public sealed class SomeAttribute: ValidationAttribute I've created validator for such an attribute: public class SomeValidator : DataAnnotationsModelValidator<SomeAttribute> and wire up this in the Application_Start of Global.asax DataAnnotationsModelValidatorProvider.RegisterAdapter( typeof (SomeAttribute), typeof (SomeValidator)); Finally, if I use my attribute in the desired way: [SomeAttribute(...)] //first [SomeAttribute(...)] //second public string SomeField { get; set; } when validation is executed by the framework, only first attribute instance is invoked. Second one seems to be dead. I've noticed that during each request only single validator instance is created (for the first annotation). How to solve this problem and fire all attributes?

Does anybody know why?

  I must be missing something obvious, but everything that I've tried for this is leaving me empty handed, so I'm a bit puzzled. I'm attempting to use the jQuery validation plugin with custom validation methods, but it seems to be hit or miss. It seems that I am able to successfully add rules to a certain extent, but some of the methods are not applied. Or the specified method is not applied, and the incorrect method is instead applied. But then I add, in the same exact manner, a validation test for names. • Java EE 7 Roadmap

  The Java EE 6 Platform, released in December 2009, has seen great uptake from the community with its POJO-based programming model, lightweight Web Profile, and extension points. There are now 13 Java EE 6 compliant appserver implementations today! When we announced the Java EE 7 JSR back in early 2011, our plans were that we would release it by Q4 2012. This target date was slightly over three years after the release of Java EE 6, but at the same time it meant that we had less than two years to complete a fairly comprehensive agenda — to continue to invest in significant enhancements in simplification, usability, and functionality in updated versions of the JSRs that are currently part of the platform; to introduce new JSRs that reflect emerging needs in the community; and to add support for use in cloud environments. We have since announced a minor adjustment in our dates (to the spring of 2013) in order to accommodate the inclusion of JSRs of importance to the community, such as Web Sockets and JSON-P. At this point, however, we have to make a choice. Despite our best intentions, our progress has been slow on the cloud side of our agenda. Partially this has been due to a lack of maturity in the space for provisioning, multi-tenancy, elasticity, and the deployment of applications in the cloud. And partially it is due to our conservative approach in trying to get things "right" in view of limited industry experience in the cloud area when we started this work. Because of this, we believe that providing solid support for standardized PaaS-based programming and multi-tenancy would delay the release of Java EE 7 until the spring of 2014 — that is, two years from now and over a year behind schedule. In our opinion, that is way too long. We have therefore proposed to the Java EE 7 Expert Group that we adjust our course of action — namely, stick to our current target release dates, and defer the remaining aspects of our agenda for PaaS enablement and multi-tenancy support to Java EE 8. Of course, we continue to believe that Java EE is well-suited for use in the cloud, although such use might not be quite ready for full standardization. Even today, without Java EE 7, Java EE vendors such as Oracle, Red Hat, IBM, and CloudBees have begun to offer the ability to run Java EE applications in the cloud. Deferring the remaining cloud-oriented aspects of our agenda has several important advantages: It allows Java EE Platform vendors to gain more experience with their implementations in this area and thus helps us avoid risks entailed by trying to standardize prematurely in an emerging area. It means that the community won't need to wait longer for those features that are ready at the cost of those features that need more time. Because we have already laid some of the infrastructure for cloud support in Java EE 7, including resource definition metadata, improved security configuration, JPA schema generation, etc., it will allow us to expedite a Java EE 8 release. We therefore plan to target the Java EE 8 Platform release for the spring of 2015. This shift in the scope of Java EE 7 allows us to better retain our focus on enhancements in simplification and usability and to deliver on schedule those features that have been most requested by developers. These include the support for HTML 5 in the form of Web Sockets and JSON-P; the simplified JMS 2.0 APIs; improved Managed Bean alignment, including transactional interceptors; the JAX-RS 2.0 client API; support for method-level validation; a much more comprehensive expression language; and more. We feel strongly that this is the right thing to do, and we hope that you will support us in this proposed direction.

• How to test a DAO with JPA implementation ?

  Hi I came from the Spring camp , I don't want to use Spring , and am migrating to JavaEE6 , But I have problem testing DAO + JPA , here is my simplified sample : public interface PersonDao { public Person get(long id); } This is a very basic DAO , because I came from Spring , I believe DAO still have it value , so I decided to add a DAO layer . public class PersonDaoImpl implements PersonDao , Serializable { @PersistenceContext(unitName = "test", type = PersistenceContextType.EXTENDED) EntityManager entityManager ; public PersonDaoImpl() { } @Override public Person get(long id) { return entityManager .find(Person.class , id); } } This is a JPA-implemented DAO , I hope the EE container or the test container able to inject the EntityManager. public class PersonDaoImplTest extends TestCase { @Inject protected PersonDao personDao; @Override protected void setUp() throws Exception { //personDao = new PersonDaoImpl(); } public void testGet() { System.out.println("personDao = " + personDao); // NULL ! Person p = personDao.get(1L); System.out.println("p = " + p); } } This is my test file . OK , here comes the problem : Because JUnit doesn't understand @javax.inject.Inject , the PersonDao will not be able to injected , the test will fail. How do I find a test framework that able to inject the EntityManager to the PersonDaoImpl , and @Inject the PersonDaoImpl to the PersonDao of TestCase ? I tried unitils.org , but cannot find a sample like this , it just directly inject the EntityManagerFactory to the TestCast , not what I want ...

• JMS MessageCreator.createMessage() in Grails

  Hi there, I am trying to implement jms to my grails application. I have several JMS consumer in a spring based enviroment listining on an ActiveMQ broker. I wrote a simple test commandline client which creates messages and receives them in an request response manner. Here is the snippet that sends a MapMessage in Spring JMS way. This works for me as long I am in my spring world. final String corrID = UUID.randomUUID().toString(); asyncJmsTemplate.send("test.RequestQ", new MessageCreator() { public Message createMessage(Session session) throws JMSException { try { MapMessage msg = session.createMapMessage(); msg.setStringProperty("json", mapper.writeValueAsString(List<of some objects>)); msg.setJMSCorrelationID(corrID); msg.setJMSReplyTo(session.createQueue("test.ReplyQ")); return msg; } catch (JsonGenerationException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } catch (JsonMappingException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IOException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } return null; } }); BUT when I tried to implement this methods to my grails test app I receive some METHOD_DEF exceptions. Sending simple TextMessages via the jmsTemplate.convertAndSende(Queue, Message) provided by the JMS Plugin works. Can any one help me? Is this a common problem? Cheers Hans
