• Using AsyncTask to display data in ListView, but onPostExecute not being called

  I made a simple AsyncTask class to display data in ListView with the help of this stackoverflow question. But the AsyncTask onPostExecute is not being called. • Slow Jquery Animation

  I have this webpage : http://miloarc.pyrogenicmedia.com/ Which atm is nothing special. It has a few effects but none that break the bank. If you mouse over a tile, it should change it's opacity to give it a fade effect. This is done through the Jquery Animation, not through CSS (I do this so it can fade, instead of being a straight change). Everything looks nice when the page loads, and the fades look perfect. Infact if you drag your mouse all over the place, if gives you a "trail" almost like a snake. Anyway, My next problem is that you will see there is a box in the top left, which is going to tell you information about the tile you are hovering over. This seems to work fine. When you mouse over that information box, it switches it's position (So that you can reach the tiles that were previously hidden underneath it). From my understanding, this is all working fine, and to the letter. However, After one move of the info box (One hover). Viewing the page in Firefox turns slugish. As in, after a successful move of the info box, the fade effects become very stuttered, and it doesn't pick up events as fast meaning you can't draw a "trail" on the screen. Chrome doesn't have this issue. It seems to work fine no matter what. Safari also seems ok. Although I do notice if I move my mouse really fast, it does jump a bit but not as much as firefox. Internet explorer doesn't work at all. Seems to crash the browser... And there is an error with the rounded corner plugin im using (Not sure why...). All in all, I think whatever I'm doing inside my code must be heavily sluggish. But I don't know where it is happening. • Using repaint() method.

  I'm still struggling to create this game : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2844190/choosing-design-method-for-ladder-like-word-game .I've got it almost working but there is a problem though. When I'm inserting a word and it's correct, the whole window should reload, and JButtons containing letters should be repainted with different style. But somehow repaint() method for the game panel (in Main method) doesn't affect it at all. What am I doing wrong ? • handling filename* parameters with spaces via RFC 5987 results in '+' in filenames

  I have some legacy code I am dealing with (so no I can't just use a URL with an encoded filename component) that allows a user to download a file from our website. Since our filenames are often in many different languages they are all stored as UTF-8. I wrote some code to handle the RFC5987 conversion to a proper filename* parameter. This works great until I have a filename with non-ascii characters and spaces. Per RFC, the space character is not part of attr_char so it gets encoded as %20. I have new versions of Chrome as well as Firefox and they are all converting to %20 to + on download. I have tried not encoding the space and putting the encoded filename in quotes and get the same result. I have sniffed the response coming from the server to verify that the servlet container wasn't mucking with my headers and they look correct to me. The RFC even has examples that contain %20. Am I missing something, or do all of these browsers have a bug related to this? Many thanks in advance. The code I use to encode the filename is below.   I'm working on my first Android Augmented Reality application. The application works pretty good if the ARActivity runs as the first class (android.intent.category.LAUNCHER) in the manifest file. But when I added a splash screen which means the ARActivity will be the second to run(android.intent.category.DEFAULT), the camera seems not detecting the marker. I believe the problem is all in the manifest file. Any suggestions ? • PHP: How do I loop through every XML file in a directory?

  Hi! I'm building a simple application. It's a user interface to an online order system. Basically, the system is going to work like this: Other companies upload their purchase orders to our FTP server. These orders are simple XML files (containing things like customer data, address information, ordered products and the quantities…) I've built a simple user interface in HTML5, jQuery and CSS — all powered by PHP. PHP reads the content of an order (using the built-in features of SimpleXML) and displays it on the web page. So, it's a web app, supposed to always be running in a browser at the office. The PHP app will display the content of all orders. Every fifteen minutes or so, the app will check for new orders. How do I loop through all XML files in a directory? Right now, my app is able to read the content of a single XML file, and display it in a nice way on the page. My ultimate goal is to group a bunch of the Day controls within a Month control, which is then contained in a Year control as I'm trying to make a long Calendar Bar that lets you navigate through the months and years, while clicking on a Day would display any information saved on that date. But I can't even get the Day part to display independent of anything else so I'm a long way from the rest of the functionality. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Android launches system settings instead of my app

  Hi, For some reason whenever I (try to) start my app the phone decides to launch system settings instead of my "main activity". And yes, I am referring to the "Android system settings", and not something from my app. This only happens on my phone, and I suppose it probably could be related to the fact that my app had just opened system settings when I decided to re-launch with a new version from Eclipse. It is possible to start the app from within Eclipse, but when I navigate back from the app it returns to the system settings rather than the home screen, as if the settings activity was started first and then my activity. If I then start the app from the phone all I get is system settings yet again. The app is listening to the VIEW-action for a specific URL substring, and when I start the app using a matching URL I get the same result as when I start it from Eclipse, app starts, but when I return I return to settings. I have tried googling for this problem, and all I could find was something about Android saving state when an app gets killed, but without any information on how to reset this state. I have tried uninstalling the app, killing system settings, rebooting the phone, reinstalling, clearing application data.. no luck.. • Hidden UIView Orientation Change / Layout problems

  The Problem: I have two View Controllers loaded into a root View Controller. Both sub view layouts respond to orientation changes. I switch between the two views using [UIView transformationFromView:...]. Both sub views work fine on their own, but if... Views are swapped Orientation Changes Views are swapped again the View that was previously hidden has serious layout problems. The more I repeat these steps the worse the problem gets. Implementation Details I have three viewsControllers. MyAppViewController A_ViewController B_ViewController A & B ViewControllers have a background image each, and a UIWebView and an AQGridView respectively. UPDATE: I just noticed that when the orientation is landscape, the transition flips vertically, when I would expect it to be horizontal. I don't know wether that's a clue as to what might be going wrong. Switch to the other view... change orientation.... switch back....

• How do I get a JPanel with an empty JLabel to take up space in a GridBagLayout

  I am working on a GUI for a project at school. I am using a GridBagLayout in swing. I want to have a label indicating the input(a type of file @ x = 0, y = 0), followed by another label(the actual file name once selected @ x = 1, y = 0), followed by a browse button for a file chooser( @ x = 2, y = 0). The label at (1,0) is initially blank, however I want the area that the text will occupy to take up some space when the label contains no text. I also want the space between the label at (0,0) and the button at (2,0) to remain constant. To achieve this, I'm trying to put the label onto a panel and then play with the layouts. However I can't seam to achieve the desired results. Could anyone offer some suggestions? The next three rows of the GridBagLayout will be laid out exactly the same way.   Hi all hope your having a good day/evening. Simple question, but maybe not so simple to answer. I have an unordered list, which i am using as a menu. The list items are floated right and sized due to an anchor tag inside them with a roll over. The last element is given a specific size to suck up any extra space. My question is: How can i get it to display at the same widths without specifying exact widths for each list item? Any help would be appreciated. • Why isn't my algorithm for find the biggest and smallest inputs working?

  I have started a new job, and with it comes a new language: Ironpython. Thankfully a good language :D Before starting I got to grips with Python on the whole, but that was only a week's worth of learning. Now I'm writing actual code. I've been charged with writing an algorithm that finds the best input parameter to collect data with. The basic algorithm is (as I've been instructed): Set the input parameter to a good guess Start collecting data When data is available stop collecting find the highest point If the point before this (i.e. for the previous parameter value) was higher and the point before that was lower then we've found the max otherwise the input parameter is increased by the initial guess. goto 2 If the max is found then the min needs to be found. To do this the algorithm carries on increasing the input, but by 1/10 of the max, until the current point is greater than the previous point and the point before that is also greater. Once the min is found then the algorithm stops. The problem I am getting is that the algorithm is not coming up with the best input being PI/2 and the final input being PI, but I can't see why. Also the best and final inputs are different each time I run the programme. Can anyone see why? Also when the algorithm terminates the best and final inputs are printed to the screen multiple times, not just once. Can someone explain why?

• JOptionPane opening another JFrame

  So I'm continuing my fight with this : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2923545/creating-java-dialogs/2926126 task. Now my JOptionPane opens new window with envelope overfiew, but I can't change size of this window. Also I wanted to have sender's data in upper left corner, and receiver's data in bottom right. How can I achieve that ? There is also issue with OptionPane itself. After I click 'OK' it opens small window in the upper left corner of the screen. What is this and why it's appearing ? • Detecting Acceleration in a car (iPhone Accelerometer)

  Hello, I am working on an iPhone app where we are trying to calculate the acceleration of a moving car. Similar apps have accomplished this (Dynolicious), but the difference is that this app is designed to be used during general city driving, not on a drag strip. This leads us to one big concern that Dynolicious was luckily able to avoid: hills. Yes, hills. There are two important stages to this: calibration, and actual driving. Our initial run was simple and suffered the consequences. During the calibration stage, I took the average force on the phone, and during running, I just subtracted the average force from the current force to get the current acceleration this frame. The problem with this is that the typical car receives much more force than just the forward force - everything from turning to potholes was causing the values to go out of sync with what was really happening. The next run was to add the condition that the iPhone must be oriented in such a way that the screen was facing toward the back of the car. Using this method, I attempted to follow only force on the z-axis, but this obviously lead to problems unless the iPhone was oriented directly upright, because of gravity. Some trigonometry later, and I had managed to work gravity out of the equation, so that the car was actually being read very, very well by the iPhone. Until I hit a slope. As soon as the angle of the car changed, suddenly I was receiving accelerations and decelerations that didn't make sense, and we were once again going out of sync. Talking with someone a lot smarter than me at math lead to a solution that I have been trying to implement for longer than I would like to admit. It's steps are as follows: 1) During calibration, measure gravity as a vector instead of a size. Store that vector. 2) When the car initially moves forward, take the vector of motion and subtract gravity. Use this as the forward momentum. (Ignore, for now, the user cases where this will be difficult and let's concentrate on the math :) 3) From the forward vector and the gravity vector, construct a plane. 4) Whenever a force is received, project it onto said plane to get rid of sideways force/etc. 5) Then, use that force, the known magnitude of gravity, and the known direction of forward motion to essentially solve a triangle to get the forward vector. The problem that is causing the most difficulty in this new system is not step 5, which I have gotten to the point where all the numbers look as they should. The difficult part is actually the detection of the forward vector. I am selecting vectors whose magnitude exceeds gravity, and from there, averaging them and subtracting gravity. (I am doing some error checking to make sure that I am not using a force just because the iPhone accelerometer was off by a bit, which happens more frequently than I would like). But if I plot these vectors that I am using, they actually vary by an angle of about 20-30 degrees, which can lead to some strong inaccuracies. The end result is that the app is even more inaccurate now than before. So basically - all you math and iPhone brains out there - any glaring errors? Any potentially better solutions? Any experience that could be useful at all? Award: offering a bounty of $250 to the first answer that leads to a solution.

• Calling system commands from Perl

Unfortunately, we recently reconfigured openldap on this server so that a "BASE DC=" is specified in /etc/openldap/ldap.conf and /etc/ldap.conf. That change seems to mean ldapsearch ignores the LDAP_BASEDN environment variable, and so my ldapsearch fails. I've tried a couple of different fixes but without success so far: (1) I tried going back to using the "-b" argument to ldapsearch, but escaping the shell metacharacters. I started writing the escaping code: my $ldn_escaped = $ldn; $ldn_escaped =~ s/\/\\/g; $ldn_escaped =~ s/`/\`/g; $ldn_escaped =~ s/$/\$/g; $ldn_escaped =~ s/"/\"/g; That threw up some Perl errors because I haven't escaped those regexes properly in Perl (the line number matches the regex with the backticks in). Backticks found where operator expected at /tmp/mycommand line 404, at end of line At the same time I started to doubt this approach and looked for a better one. (2) I then saw some Stackoverflow questions (here and here) that suggested a better solution. • Update to Easy Slider 1.7 made all my JQuery code stop working.

  I'm pretty novice as a JQuery user goes. I've got some experience implementing different plugins but would be lost trying to customize my own. I can't share the exact site details with you due to a NDA, so I hope someone can give me a little help. I've got a project due today (Just HTML/CSS/JQuery). It has a lightbox, show/hide login menu and a slider is Easy Slider 1.5. Everything was working together, until I attempted to update to Easy Slider 1.7 (see link on same page, I'm too new to post more than 1 link). When I did so, JQuery stopped working for all the plugins. I've attempted to revert back to the original state, by undoing my work (didn't do much), ad JQuery remains broken. Firebug Error Console shared no errors. I can't find anything in the code no matter how hard I look at it. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this JQuery problem? Delivery is supposed to be tonight for the project.
