  What is the best practice to specify the positions of elements in GWT widget? Imagine you have a task: place a set of widgets in page layout. What would you use to position all your buttons and inputs in some order? standart HTML markup with tables/divs + CSS styles for positioning GWT widgets: panels, grids, tables + CSS styles for positioning GWT widgets: panels, grids, tables + their native properties for positioning If 2 or 3 - what would you use to reproduce a standart HTML table with colspans, fixed width columns and paddings? ps UIBinder and XML markup. GWT 2.4 My opinion: one of the biggest advantages of GWT is the ability to prevent programmer from writing HTML markup and add cross-browser support for interfaces. We shouldn't drop these points so its better to choose p.3 and try to use CSS ONLY for decoration - i.e. colors, fonts etc. Another point of view: its a bad idea to place any styles inline. By specifying properties of the widgets in XML markup we are literally doing exactly this. Also, GWT doesn't have enough widgets to produce a normal layout. For example you need to create a simple table with collspans and fixed column width. How would you go about this? Looks like you have to embed several HorizontalPanels into VerticalPanels, specify width/height in everyone of them and produce a great paper of XML by this. So whats your opinion?

• Regex to GENERATE thumbnails!?!?! (but that's crazy!)

  Hello everyone! So here is my situation, and the solution that I've come up with to solve the problem. I have created an application that includes TinyMCE to allow users to create HTML content for publishing. The user can include images in their markup, and drag/resize those images effecting the final Width/Height attributes in the IMG tag. This is all great, the users can include images and resize/relocate them to their desired appearance. But one big problem is that I am now sending a (possibly) much larger image to the client, only to have the browser resize the image into the requested Width/Height attributes. All that bandwidth and lost load time.... So my solution is to pre-process my users markup content, scanning all of the IMG tags and parsing out the Height/Width/Src attributes. Then set each img's SRC tag to a phpThumb request with the parsed Height/Width passed into the thumbnails URL. This will create my reduced size image (optimising bandwidth at the expense of CPU and caching). What do you think about this solution? I've seen other posts where people were using mod_rewrite to do something similar, but I want to effect the content on the page service and not manipulate the image requests as they're being received. .... Any thoughts about this design? I need some help with the fine details as my regex skills need some work, but I'm very short on time and promise to pay my technical knowledge debt soon. To make the regex's easier, I can be sure of some things. Only img tags that need this processing will have an existing width="" height="" attributes (with the double quotes, and lower cased text, but I suppose matching the text case insensitive would be better if TinyMCE changes) So a regex to match only the necessary Img tags, and maybe another three regex's to extract the src, the width, and the height?   Hi, I'm trying to use the DOM to locate a form element in Selenium but I can't get it to work. Even if I use the example in the Selenium documentation it still fails, for example with this html... <html> <body> <form id="loginForm"> <input name="username" type="text" /> <input name="password" type="password" /> <input name="continue" type="submit" value="Login" /> <input name="continue" type="button" value="Clear" /> </form> </body> <html> and this command in the Selenium IDE... verifyElementPresent with target... dom=document.forms['loginForm'] I get [error] false in the log. The 'getElementById' example in the documentation does work, but none of the others. Can someone explain what I'm doing wrong here? Thanks.

• Salesforce/PHP - outbound messages (SOAP) - memory limit issue? DOMDocument::loadXML() issue?

  I'm using Salesforce to send outbound messages (via SOAP) to another server. The server can process about 8 messages at a time, but will not send back the ACK file if the SOAP request contains more than 8 messages. SF can send up to 100 outbound messages in 1 SOAP request and I think this is causing a memory issue with PHP. If I process the outbound messages 1 by 1 they all go through fine, I can even do 8 at a time with no issues. But larger sets are not working. ERROR in SF: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Premature end of file Looking in the HTTP error logs I see that the incoming SOAP message looks to be getting cut of which throws a PHP warning stating: DOMDocument::loadXML() ... Premature end of data in tag ... PHP Fatal error: Call to a member function getAttribute() on a non-object This leads me to believe that PHP is having a memory issue and can not parse the incoming message due to it's size. I was thinking I could just set: ini_set('memory_limit', '64M'); // This has done nothing to fix the problem But would this be the correct approach? Is there a way I could set this to increase with the incoming SOAP request dynamically? • How to Sort a TreeList in Sitecore 6 in the Source

  My team uses Sitecore 6 as content management system and then .Net to interface with Sitecore API. In many of our templates we make use of a Treelist. When adding a new item to the selected items Treelist it automatically puts the item at the bottom of the list. In some lists they get very large. In most cases end users would like to see these lists sorted descending by a Date field that is part of the templates that can be added as selected to the Treelist. Programmatically on the .Net side its very easy to handle this using Linq OrderByDescending and all displays great in the site to visitors. What I am trying to figure out is how to get it to display the same in Sitecore Content Editor. I've not found anything from Google search other than there seems to be a SortBy you can specify in the source but I tried this and can't get it to have any effect. Has anyone dealt with this before? Again, main goal is to sort items in a Treelist in the Sitecore Content Editor itself. Thanks for any input anyone has.

• Div's are not filtered as :hidden when display:none; is appended as style

I have jQuery code to toggle between displaying these, but I need to store as a cookie which one was used last time the user was logged in (i.e. which one was visible). The storing of the cookie is not the problem. The problem is that I for some reason am not able to detect which one is the hidden one, using .is(":hidden"), and not able to detect which one is visible using .is(":visible") When I use those two selectors, I always get both. "true" and "true" for both, eventhough one has display: none; and the other doesn't. Please note that they are NOT placed inside a hidden container which otherwise would hide both, so there are not any hidden ancestor containers. • Is it possible to send back a json array along with seperate variables

  Hey guys I have an ajax jquery function that receives data from a php script. I want to return an array with all the online users which is retrieved from a mysql statement, and I want to send other separate variables I need for other purposes along with it. If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. NOTE: the example below is to illustrate what I want to do, I understand that json-encoding the array with other variables is dysfunctional. • choose javascript variable based on element id from jquery

  I feel like this is a simple question, but I am still relatively new to javascript and jquery. I am developing a site for a touch interface that uses unordered lists and jquery .click functions to take input data. I have a section to input a m:ss time, with 3 divs, each containing a list of digits for time. I need to get the input for each column and set it as a variable. I originally designed the inputs to change form inputs, because I didn't understand javascript very much. It was easy to change the 3 hidden inputs by using div id's, but I can't figure out how to do it now with javascript variables. Here is my original jquery code... $("div#time>div>ul>li").click(function() { var id = $(this).parents(".time").attr("name"); var number = $(this).html(); $("input#"+id).val(number); }); The last line sets one of 3 hidden inputs equal to whatever was clicked. I need to make it so separate variables take the inputs, then I can manipulate those variables however I want. However, I want it to disconnect the client when an unrecognised packet is received. For some reason, it responds fine to the handshake and HTML status request, but the else clause is never executed when there's an unknown packet. Thanks

• Events fired when you change the contents of a control in Silverlight

  Assuming I change the contents of a control using a XamlReader and add the UIElement to the container of a control, what events are supposed to fire? There are times where the SizeChanged will fire, LayoutUpdated changing.. though there are other times where neither of these occur despite having changing the contents of a control. In my case, I am generating a thumbnail view of what's currently in view on a page. The user can change the content of the page and thus the thumbnail should update accordingly. Though, wiring to the LayoutUpdated, Loaded, SizeChanged aren't always reliable for when the contents have changed. I would just call my InvalidateThumbnail which uses a writeablebitmap, but it's too quick after setting the content and as a result I will get a blank thumbnail. At the moment, my hack (cringes) was to wait a few milliseconds before the UI is done rendering the actual new content and I can reliably create the thumbnail. I'd rather just trigger on an event every time though. Possible? What events should I look at? I've seen CompositeTarget.Rendering but that's not what I want.

  I'm trying to use SMIL to animate the typing of text into a field embedded in a SVG. I tried the following code in both Chrome and a SMIL-enable Firefox nightly, but it has no effect: <svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns:html="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <foreignObject> <html:input type="text" value=""> <set attributeName="value" to="Hello World" begin="0" dur="10s" fill="freeze" /> </html:input> </foreignObject> </svg> The text field appears, but remains empty. So, I thought I would register for the beginEvent and do the substitution manually. To test the events, I added: <rect id="rect" x="0" y="0" width="10" height="10"> <animate id="dx" attributeName="x" attributeType="XML" begin="0s" dur="1s" fill="freeze" from="0" to="-10" /> </rect> As well as the javascript that made sense from the event model: window.addEventListener( 'load', function() { function listen( id ) { var elem = document.getElementById( id ) elem.addEventListener( 'beginEvent', function() { console.log( 'begin ' + id ) }, false ) elem.addEventListener( 'endEvent', function() { console.log( 'end ' + id ) }, false ) } listen( 'rect' ) listen( 'dx' ) }) But there's no events fired on either the rect or the animate in either browser. The next logical step seems to be to simulate the animation (ala. FakeSmile), but I want to use the browser's animation timer if at all possible.

• UTF-8 support in java application

  I'm having trouble with UTF-8. common.jsp <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8"%> typical.jsp <%@ include file="common.jsp" %> Page Head <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> Form <form id="screenObject" accept-charset="UTF-8" action="/SiteAdmin/articleHeaderEdit?articleId=15" method="post"> I enter non latin1 characters into a text field and click Save. Validator complains about another field and stops the submission. This never gets to the database, so database ability to handle UTF-8 is not in this picture. The page redisplays with appropriate error but the text that had been entered is all messed up. All non latin1 characters are converted to some gibberish. I'm using Spring 3 MVC, in case that matters... Attempts Adding this to my view resolver didn't help: <property name="contentType" value="text/html;charset=UTF-8" />
