  • Does Ctypes Structures and POINTERS automatically free the memory when the Python object is deleted?

    When using Python CTypes there are the Structures, that allow you to clone c-structures on the Python side, and the POINTERS objects that create a sofisticated Python Object from a memory address value and can be used to pass objects by reference back and forth C code. What I could not find on the documentation or elsewhere is what happens when a Python object containing a Structure class that was de-referenced from a returning pointer from C Code (that is - the C function alocated memory for the structure) is itself deleted. Is the memory for the original C structure freed? If not how to do it? Furthermore -- what if the Structure contains Pointers itself, to other data that was also allocated by the C function? Does the deletion of the Structure object frees the Pointers onits members? (I doubt so) Else - -how to do it? Trying to call the system "free" from Python for the Pointers in the Structure is crashing Python for me. Given the following record structure: type TPerson = record Name: string; Age: Integer; end; PPerson = ^TPerson; TPersonList = TList<TPerson>; Is the following code valid? procedure ReadPeople(DataSet: TDataSet; PersonList: TPersonList); begin PersonList.Count := DataSet.RecordCount; if DataSet.RecordCount = 0 then Exit; DataSet.First; while not DataSet.Eof do begin PersonList[DataSet.RecNo].Name := DataSet.FieldByName('Name').AsString; PersonList[DataSet.RecNo].Age := DataSet.FieldByName('Age').AsInteger; DataSet.Next; end; end; Do I have to use GetMem/FreeMem to allocate and free records an instance of TPersonList, or am I free to directly access the TPersonList entries directly? My gut says that the code should be valid, though I'm not sure if there's any wrinkles related to record initialization or finalization.

  • 32-bit JVM on 64-bit Windows crashes on launch with -Xmx1300m and plenty of free memory

    I'm struggling with Java heap space settings. The default Java on Windows is the 32-bit client regardless of OS version (that's what Oracle recommends to all users). It appears to set max heap size to 256 MB by default, and that is too little for me. I use a custom launcher to start the application. I would like it to use more memory on computers with plenty RAM, and default to -Xmx512m on those with less RAM. As far as I'm aware, the only way is the static -Xmx setting (that has to be set on launch). I have a user who has 8 GB RAM, 64-bit Windows and 32-bit Java 7. Maximum memory visible to the JVM is 4G (as returned by querying OperatingSystemMXBean). I understand why, no issue. For some reason my application is unable to start for this user with -Xmx1300m, even though he has 2.3G free memory. He closed some applications (having 5G free memory), and still it would not launch. The error reported to me was: error occured during init of vm could not reserve enough space for object heap What's going on? Could it be that the 32-bit JVM is only able to address the "first" 4G of memory and has to have a 1300M block available within those first 4 gigabytes? How can I solve this problem, except for asking everyone to install 64-bit Java (what is unlikely to be acceptable)?

  • 2d Game Making > Where can someone get Free Tilesets?

    I have been scouring the internet for free tilesets that are open to you. I have found http://lostgarden.com/ It does not seem very useful. There are a few things here and there, but overall not much to really make a game off of. http://www.flyingyogi.com/fun/spritelib.html Spritelib is a little better it has some useful information, but is still the graphics are more in the 8bit variety. http://reinerstileset.4players.de/ This is heavily stylized and its hard to have this match with any other free tile-sets available. All other sites I have found have just been rips from games and those are protected by a copyright and remain unusable. Right now I need simple objects to build the inside of buildings, but I have seem to have come up short in that area. I have plenty of things for outside of buildings, but nothing for in. I am hoping someone else has had this problem and has found a solution. If not, I hope the information I have provided can help someone else in their conquest.

  • Are there any free Xml Diff/Merge tools available?

    I have several config files in my .net applications which I would like to merge application settings elements etc. I was about to begin doing it manually as I usually do, however thought there must be an XML diff GUI tool available somewhere. The tool would be able to go to the element level to compare and display the differences etc. However Google gave no substantive free tool results and no hints for anything of value. Is such a tool available? That is very useful? For free? Thanks in advance. :) Edit: Here is a bit of clarification of the functionality that would turn my error-prone, tedious manual job into a 1-minute simpler task (and potential to automate): In KDiff3, you can do a diff/merge of entire directories. There is a hierarchical diff which is very accurate, user-friendly and clear. I was interested in finding a similar solution, however instead of directory hierarchy, an XML element hierarchy. If there is no such open source software, I am considering creating one on CodePlex to provide this functionality.

  • How do I share files with someone who does not have a ubuntu one account

    I tried to search for an answer, except that, uhhh there is no search. I want to share a Ubuntu One folder with people who do not have a Ubuntu One account. Is that possible? I found this answer in the faq, "Yes! Since Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, Ubuntu One supports sharing files publicly. Right click on a file already synchronized by Ubuntu One and select "Publish via Ubuntu One". Right-click on the file again and select "Copy Ubuntu One public URL". You can now paste the URL and share it with whoever you want." That doesn't seem to help me with 11.04. There is no 'Publish via Ubuntu One' button in 11.04. Does anyone know if there is a way to share files with non-ubuntu users? If so, how? Thanks In Advance, Bob

In Facebook, searching for BR Super Widgets doesn't show up our Mr Bob. We don't have a lot of Facebook expertise, so asking for help here.   • When is a Use Case layer needed?

    In his blog post The Clean Architecture Uncle Bob suggests a 4-layer architecture. I understand the separation between business rules, interfaces and infrastructure, but I wonder if/when it's necessary to have separate layers for domain objects and use cases. What added value will it bring, compared to just having the uses cases as "domain services" in the domain layer? The only useful info I've found on the web about a use case layer is an article by Martin Fowler, who seems to contradict Uncle Bob about its necessity: At some point I may run into the problems, and then I'll make a Use Case Controller - but only then. And even when I do that I rarely consider the Use Case Controllers to occupy a separate layer in the system architecture. Edit: I stumbled upon a video of Uncle Bob's Architecture: The Lost Years keynote, in which he explains this architecture in depth. Very informative.

    I am having a problem opening port 21 on my Linux Ubuntu server. No matter what i do, i can not get my status to change from closed to open. Here is a recent iptables command i used and the result iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 21 -j ACCEPT nmap -p21-22,25,80,443 CCR1 Starting Nmap 4.53 ( http://insecure.org ) at 2012-06-19 03:13 CDT Interesting ports on CCR1.chennaichristianradio.com (5.10.69.98): PORT STATE SERVICE 21/tcp closed ftp 22/tcp open ssh 25/tcp closed smtp 80/tcp open http 443/tcp closed https I also used commands from the advise from this forum http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/iptables-open-ftp-port-21/ I need to open this for FTP access to the server, and ultimately I need to forward port 21 to 2 domains i am setting up.   • Trying to setup a gateway via pppoe

    I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a computer. I want to use this computer as a router for my other computers. The computer only has 1 network card, there is no slot for a second card. I can get the computer to connect to my ISP via pppoe and it can access the web. However the other computers on my local net can only see the router computer. I have tried 2 different pppoe packages, roaring penguin and network-manager-gnome. When I get it to work I will be replacing a 15 year old computer that is running Slackware 7.1.   • Is there a compact or express SQL Server version that I can package with my WinForms app & is free?

    Hi, Is there a light weight version of SQL Server I could use that has the characteristics of: Free (assuming my winforms app is semi-commercial) Can be seemlessly packaged for deployment as part of the winforms click-once application? (i.e. ease in installation for the user). Light weight for the user (ideally something that just runs when the winforms application that uses it is running - but better than using XML sererialization for persistance). Thanks
