• Is there an official Ubuntu free technical support team?

  I have found that there is an "Ubuntu Support Team" at https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-helpteam but I am not sure it's official or active. Please note that I am not referring to bug fixing support, I am referring to the broader OS support, with people available to engage users needing support with a problem and drive it to a proper resolution. Is there an official team for this purpose with a clear scope and activity plan ?

• Can't connect to Wireless Network - Ubuntu 12.04 LTS & Sabrent A111N USB Dongle

  I've been trying to connect to this network for quite some time. I can't directly connect to the router with a Wire, but can access the Router with other wireless devices without any issues. I had previously tried several other Wifi nic's but none of them would load properly. Today, i went and bought a new (supported) Sabrent A111N USB Dongle, which said explicitly that it works with Linux 2.4 +. I popped the Dongle in, and low-and-behold it immediately said that there were Available Wireless Connections. I selected my connection and tried to connect, but it just loops constantly while saying Wireless Disconnected then attempts to connect again over and over. ifconfig and iwconfig both show my device in a ready and working state. However, iwlist wlan0 scan says that there are no results found. I don't get it... At one point, I could see the CPU in the DHCP client list under the router, but it doesn't fully make the connection (something about a timeout?). Any help would be appreciated. • Refactoring obscurely commented code

  In refactoring code, I came across code that had comments. Looking closer at the comments, I could see that the code was clearly not doing what the comments said. Without access to the coder nor documentation, and without clear direction regarding the code (i.e. defects as to the fact that the code is operating incorrectly), is the best practice to assume that the code is correct, and clean up the comments?

  I am thinking of downloading the cracked versions of dreamweaver and photoshop. Am planning to do some private projects but also use it when working as a developer (professionally). Is it risky and likely to get caught? How? Not sure if they hack into my pc, find out who I am and accuse me once it is clear that I am (or my pc is) using it, or is this just naive thinking of a new inexperienced web developer?

• SDcardReader/Writer is not connected

  My IOGEAR sdCardReader/Writer is recongized on Ubutu(by using VM ware) but when I tried to connect to "Removable Devices - Alcor Micro Flash Card Reader/Writer" , the follwoing message is appeared. " The connection for the USB device "Alcor Micro Flash Card Reader/Writer" was unsuccessful. The device is currently in use. " But I think it is not used. Should I use IOGEAR driver for this one? When I connect the card reader, Ubuntu automatically got the "Alcor Micro Flash Card Reader/Writer" . How can I fix the problem? • Best client and server antivirus for 5 user office?

  I'm setting up an Active Directory environment for 5 users (very small) and I'm wondering what is the best antivirus for clients (Windows 7) and servers (Server 2008 R2 x64)? I use Symantec Corp at my organization (50+ users) but I think that is overkill for this company. I wanted to use Microsoft Security Essentials for the clients (I use it for home machines and it's the best free AV in my opinion) but I don't think it will work on the Servers (3 servers, PDC, TS, and File). They are behind a Sonicwall TZ 200. What would be the best. Free would be even better. Thank you!

• Configuring sendmail to use one outbound MTA exclusively

  I have a sendmail problem, and I'm anything but a sendmail guru -- I could use some help. My problem is that I have a system intended to be more or less an "appliance" -- it's not intended to have an admin. Because of this, it needs to be able to "call home" by sending email. As we have configured it, this works fine -- using sendmail, it finds the appropriate relay by looking up an MX record and everything works fine. Now, however, because of security concerns, we want to limit it to using exactly one relay, so for example relay.corp.example.com. Should the user configure it to use, say, fubar.example.com, the mail sending should fail or be deferred. I thought that by configuring sendmail with a /etc/mail/server.switch file containing hosts files without dns, I'd get that effect. This doesn't work -- instead, if it gets mail addressed to [email protected], it tries to talk directly to example.com, and ignores the configured server. Any ideas?

Even after replacing Gtk.Stock.CLEAR and Gtk.Stock.add with Gtk.STOCK_CLEAR and Gtk.Stock_add in slingshot/widget/entries .vala I still get the following error when executing sudo ./build_run: frontend/widgets/Entries.vala:130.13-130.25: error: The name `Stock_add' does not exist in the context of `Gtk' Gtk.Stock_add ({stock_item}); ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Compilation failed: 1 error(s), 0 warning(s) mv: cannot stat `slingshot': No such file or directory ./build_run: 7: slingshot: not found I haven't found yet a soulution, therefore any help is appreciated, thanks!

  Every now and then, I disable my wireless via the menu icon in Ubuntu. Then, when I try to enable the wifi, it tells me that "wireless is disabled" or "wireless is disabled by hardware switch". There is a red icon on the F2 key that looks like a wireless icon, and in Windows, pressing the (red) Fn key and F2 toggles the wifi. This does not work in Ubuntu, leaving me no clear way to turn wifi back on. How can I restart wifi in Ubuntu?

The details are as follows: Domain: corp Server Name: oxygen The workstations are all running Windows XP SP3 and have fixed IP addresses. I am trying to use the net send functionality to be able to send simple messages to either individual machines/users and also to all machines. This is so I can send a message to a user to alert them about something, or likewise alert everyone of something such as the server being rebooted. Is this possible using Server 2008? • ifconfig can't see USB wireless

  I have a wifi USB dongle which I have previously used on a Raspberry Pi (this it is what it is target at). I am trying to get it working on an Nvidia Jetson TK1, however I am having some problems. When I run ifconfig I can't see the wifi, only the ethernet and local loopback. iwconfig reports no wireless extensions on all devices. lsusb does find the device: Bus 002 Device 008: ID 148f:5370 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT5370 Wireless Adapter So I am not sure why the network tools can't see it. I have tried logging on with a GUI and opening up the network settings through Unity, but cannot see any wireless devices either. Not sure if this is useful, but output of lsmod: Module Size Used by nvhost_vi 2940 0 How can I enable wireless networking on this computer? Command line approach is preferred, but either is fine. UPDATE I don't have the kernel module rt2800usb anywhere on my system. If I do an apt-file search for rt2800usb it lists a number of packages of the pattern: linux-image-3.13.0-*. Perhaps installing one of these will do the trick, but can anyone tell me if its safe to do so?

Ive had this computer since 2001, never formatet it, until now =) Anyway the problem is that i cant find any drivers for the motherboard (integrated audio, video and ethernet). as i said its an old ass Dell. Cant remember if I got any cds along with it. Even if i did theyre gone a long time ago. So, I ran CPUZ and got this: --Motherboard-- Dell Computer Corp. Model 0K8980 And started googling. But didnt find any drivers. Still cant So im asking for a little help here. • Can I use wikipedia/commons images to create a logo for my program?

Would adding a reference in the git's root folder's README suffice, or would that clutter every use of the logo, as you would have to attribute all original contributors on every single usage (like, e.g. presentations, flyers, websites, ...)? • self referencing tables, good or bad?

  Representing geographical locations within an application, the design of the underlying data model suggests two clear options (or maybe more?). One table with a self referencing parent_id column uk - london (london parent id = UK id) or two tables, with a one to many relationship using a foreign key. My preference is for one self-refercing table as it easily allows to extend into as many sub regions as required. IN general do people veer away from self referencing tables, or are they A-OK ?
