• Ubuntu Software Center and Update Manager fail to open

  After attempting to install Google Chrome i386 the installation failed. I then proceeded to the AMD64 to see if it was the problem but...... My computer froze and I forced shut down. Now apport has a message saying An Error occurred please run Package Manager to fix the problem E:the package google-chrome-stable needs to be reinstalled but but i cant find an archive on it) This usually means your packages have unmet dependencies. Solution anyone PS:Update manager does not work and I don't have Snyaptic. The file itself failed at the real real end and froze everything but the cursor.

• How to make Evolution mail work with my work email address?

  this is the 1st time to write here and the 1st time to use a mail client other than outlook. I tried to add my enterprise email address to evolution mail, I tried both server types exchange mapi and microsoft exchange. With exchange mapi i get this error message "Authentication failed. MapiLogonProvider: Failed to login into the server" With Microsoft Exchange I get this error "Could not connect to server . Make sure the URL is correct and try again." Although I'm sure of all the steps Server: ip address of the mail server Username: Domainname\Username Domain: domain name My system is Ubuntu Release 11.04 (natty) Kernel Linux 2.6.38-15-generic Genome 2.32.1 Evolution 2.32.2 Any kind of help is appreciated and thanks in advance

• Ubuntu dual boot OS crashed my computer. Now my computer won't boot. Please Help

  I've just tried to install ubuntu 12.04 dual boot OS with Windows 7 and it finished installing in ubuntu. However, it said that the bootloader "grub.." failed to install. The same exact problem here I receive the error 'grub-install /dev/sda failed' while attempting to install Ubuntu as the computer's only OS. . When I tried to restart my computer, it went to the hp screen since my computer is a dv6 hp laptop and then it goes into this black screen with no words or any buttons will work. There is just a blinking underscore that seems like it'll allow me to type but makes error sounds when I type. Is this because I possibly partitioned my memory incorrectly? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm very desperate. ANY HELP would be great. Thanks.

• Is it possible to use binary nvidia driver with GeForce 7300 SE?

  I have an Nvidia GeForce 7300 SE. It worked fine with the nvidia driver when I was using 10.10. When I upgraded to 12.04, the (nvidia-current) binary driver failed---I couldn't even get a login screen. The "nouveau" driver works okay, but the display is quite sluggish. I've read about the fact that my GeForce is blacklisted (here and here). But, when I tried the suggested workaround of using nvidia-173, I discovered that it wouldn't install because of a failed dependency: xorg-video-abi-10 (Package not available). The "precise" nvidia-173 package page notes this (dependency bug?) So, my real question: is there a GeForce 7300 SE workaround for 12.04?

• Ubuntu samba file and print server

  I am using an old Dell desktop PC as a samba file and print server for a Windows 7 network. The version of Unbuntu I am running is 12.04 which seems to big for the RAM and disk space I have available. Unbuntu 12.04 runs very very slow, the printing over the home network works at a quite acceptable speed. I have two problems: SLOW Ubuntu and I cannot update samba. The update manager tells me "update failed". So my two questions: Is there anything I can remove from the standard 12.04 installation to make Ubuntu run faster and should I uninstall and the reinstall samba to overcome the "update failed" problem? I hesitate, as printing and file serving works somehow and I don't want to loose that. I know I should give you more information to give me answers. But what would you need to know? I am not a natural Linux user. Windows 7 is still my home. Thanks in advance, Gerd

• Dual 7950, freezes during startup

  I have two identical video cards right now. Xubuntu will boot up no problem if I only have one card installed. If I install the 2nd card it will just hang midway thru the loading screen. Regardless of which card I use and which position on the motherboard, it will freeze if I have both installed. I've tried installing the proprietary drivers, both fglrx and fglrx-updates, still freezes in the same spot. Uninstalled those and went back to the default ones. The only way I can get a terminal is by booting into failsafe mode. • What do I need to do when installing old version of ubuntu on new arch platform?

  I got a board with aptio cpu which is said to be of new platform and may have driver problems while using old version of ubuntu, and it do have. After installing my customized Live ubuntu server with X(the system runs as a liveCD), X starts but failed to get right resolution. If I run ubiquity in the live system to install the system to my disk, I can't start X and the whole console was a mess.Tried connect from ssh and upgrade, failed to solve the problem. Install ubuntu 12.04.2 desktop, at bootup the text was a mess, X starts and still could not get the right resolution. Install ubuntu 14.04 server, at bootup the text was also a mess, but it turned clear and the resolution is right. So what else do I need to provide? CPUInfo ? lspci -nn | grep VGA ? anything else? And what's the problem? What can I do to support the newest arch in my customized system? Thanks

• Ubuntu 11.04 is not opening

  I am using Ubuntu 11.04 with Windows 7. Ubuntu was working nice but now when I choose Ubuntu 11.04 from boot loader, it is not opening. Just Purple screen is coming but then nothing change. I can't see login menu, it doesn't pass to the login menu. What should I do? Has anyone this problem? Thanks for your answer. I did the steps you wrote Frantique. But now I have a black screen and then nothing. When I choosed ubuntu 11.04 from bootloader, first purple screen is opening then after 1 second it is going to a black screen. Lets I tell you what did I change: I installed docky, and theme of MACOSX. They were working nicely. And I tried to install a nice calendar. To do this installation I changed a litle bit the file sources.list. That calendar program was working succcesfully too, after installation. The theme MACOSX was working succesfully there weren't any problem. After some days maybe meeks I had that problem which I asked in the above. Now when I tried to update I have a lots of errors. Like: Failed to urls... can't access archive something... .... Failed to urls... can't access archive something... .... ..... Failed to urls... can't access archive something... I hope you will solve the problem. I want my MacOSXUbuntu back :)

  I am getting a "Package Operations Failed" message at the 95% mark of each download. Details show "Reading database" for each 5 percentage segment until Reading database ... 95%dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error aborting: failed in buffer_read(fd): files list for package `gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly' I have tried to download a number of piece of software (most recently PDF Editor) and am getting the same message at the same point in the download. Is there something wrong with my Ubuntu version, a virus or is it the software being downloaded? Using 10.04 LTS. P.S. Same problem when trying to download updates.

Only on Gigolo I can see it, and transfer data, but the music I copy is not working on my phone.   I've been searching around for some time now, but nothing solves my problem. I'm setting up a mail server, but when writing to the iptables, I get an error: iptables-restore: line 2 failed.   Recently while working on a project to import data from an Excel worksheet using SSIS, I realized that sometimes the SSIS Package failed even though when there were no changes in the structure/schema of the Excel worksheet. I investigated it and I noticed that the SSIS Package succeeded for some set of files, but for others it failed. I found that the structure/schema of the worksheet from both these sets of Excel files were the same, the data was the only difference. How come just changing the data can make an SSIS Package fail? What actually causes this failure? What can we do to fix it?

• Why wont a simple socket to the localhost connect?

  I am following a tutorial that teaches me how to use win32 sockets(winsock2). I am attempting to create a simple socket that connects to the "localhost" but my program is failing when I attempt to connect to the local host(at the function connect()). Do I need admin privileges to connect to the localhost? Maybe thats why it fails? Maybe theres a problem with my code? I have tried the ports 8888 & 8000 & they both fail. Also if I change the port to 80 & connect to www.google.com I can connect BUT I get no response back. Is that because I haven't sent a HTTP request or am I meant to get some response back? • Watchguard SSLVPN user connection issue

  I have a user that needs access to our SSLVPN on our Watchguard firewall from his company issued laptop. The problem is when he tries to connect as himself he cannot connect. If I login to the machine it works fine, if I add him to the domain admins group in Active Directory it works fine… So, we know it is an access issue but I cannot figure out what access he needs. He is in the SSLVPN-Users group which I thought would give them all the access they needed but apparently not… Here is the output of the SSLVPN Logs when trying to connect: 2012-09-14T15:40:55.834 Launching WatchGuard Mobile VPN with SSL client. • Hyper-V Virtual Ethernet Adapter not working probperly - Code 31 on Host

  I have a Windows 8.1 machine with Hyper-V installed. From a "clean" Hyper-V configuration I open Virtual Switch Manager, create an External switch with "Allow management operating system to share this network adapter", click OK. Everything seems to work properly but the host loses network connectivity. Opening Device Manager, the "Hyper-V Virtual Ethernet Adapter" is shown under the Network Adapter section with a yellow triangle, and the following message: This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31) An object ID was not found in the file. I tried "Uninstalling" the device, seems to work, but the device doesn't actually remove. I tried removing and re-adding the Hyper-V feature completely, no difference. Tried scf /scannow, no problems. System and Application logs show no errors. • Windows Server Backup fails to backup Hyper-V VM with "Access is denied"

  I'm trying to use Windows Server Backup on my Windows Server 2012 box to backup my Hyper-V VMs. I created a backup job but each job ends with some "Access is denied" errors. One of my VMs (Linux Server) is backed up properly. All others (one Windows 8, one Linux) are not (or at least it seems that way from the looks of the log file below). How can I solve this problem?
