    Sorry for being a total beginner in cocoa and for asking the following stupid question, but it's too confusing for me to google it myself or maybe i'm just missing something. I need to run a shellscript with elevated privileges in cocoa. As i understand, "AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges" is the correct way to do it. So i've created an application and tried to use some code from one example i found online. The problem is ... if i understand it correctly ... there should be a Security framework in /System/Library/Frameworks that i have to import to the project, but ... it's not there. What am i missing here? Thank you.

  • File synck tool with network support (FTP or SSH) and decent GUI

    Is there a decent GUI tool for Windows that allows to publish files from/to a remote FTP (or SFTP) server with the same ease of use that WinMerge offers in local discs? I'll basically use it to upload changes to web sites. I've tried like a dozen tools and they're all terrible. They have difficult interfaces, you need to spend ten minutes configuring absurdly complicate project settings, there's no simple way to ignore specific files or they use custom databases that break when someone else uploads files—not to mention deployment frameworks that force you to script everything in their custom language. I don't need or even want to schedule or automate. I want a manual process I can review. I'm tired of picking files one by one in Filezilla while reading the Subversion logs. I'd love an open source tool but...

    I am defining naming conventions for a simple plugin framework. For example: index.php - the main plugin file info.php - returns an array with plugin information install.php - self-explanatory can you think of an elegant, short-hand name for a PHP file that contains the code that is to be executed before any HTML is output? Do any examples from other frameworks come to your mind? What I have been thinking of: head.php - misleading, could be mixed up with HTML <head> before_output.php - clumsy, too long init.php - not exactly correct start.php - current favourite

  • How do you run your unit tests? Compiler flags? Static libraries?

    I'm just getting started with TDD and am curious as to what approaches others take to run their tests. For reference, I am using the google testing framework, but I believe the question is applicable to most other testing frameworks and to languages other than C/C++. My general approach so far has been to do either one of three things: Write the majority of the application in a static library, then create two executables. One executable is the application itself, while the other is the test runner with all of the tests. Both link to the static library. Embed the testing code directly into the application itself, and enable or disable the testing code using compiler flags. This is probably the best approach I've used so far, but clutters up the code a bit. Embed the testing code directly into the application itself, and, given certain command-line switches either run the application itself or run the tests embedded in the application. None of these solutions are particularly elegant... How do you do it?

We are cautioned about not testing the framework, or the database. Good UI design does not lend itself to non-human testing. UI interaction in general is excluded in MVC frameworks. In many apps what is left?. 37signals talks about extensive unit testing, but in an app like Basecamp or Backpack, what exactly are the types of things being tested through appropriate unit tests? What would 100% code coverage mean in that scenario?

  • Deploy java (command line) app using Netbeans / ant

    I've finally managed to create a Netbeans project out of an old standalone (not Web-) Java application which consisted only out of single .java sources. Now I have basically two questions regarding Netbeans Subversion interaction and application deployment: Do you check in all the Netbeans project files into the repository, normally? If I build the project using Netbeans (or ant) I get a .jar file and some additional jar libraries. In order for the app to run properly on the server, some additional config files and directories (log/ for example) are needed. The application itself is a J2SE application (no frameworks) which runs from the command line on a Linux platform. How would you deploy and install such an application? It would also be nice if I could see what version of app is currently installed (maybe by appending the version number to the installed app path). Thanks for any tips.

    I Need to use nltk and numpy with Python. I am a newbie to Python and initially used the python 2.7.3 that came with my mac (currently running OSX 10.7.5). I learned that the apple version of python may not be robust so I downloaded the standard version from python.org. I have downloaded the nltk program for Mac OSX 10.7. This seemed to install fine. I am trying to download and install numpy using the instructions from the scipy website. http://www.scipy.org/Installing_SciPy/Mac_OS_X. I cloned numpy from github but when I tried to build it using the following command $ python setup.py build I received the following error MacOS/Python: can't open file 'setup.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory I also tried to build it using the scons command $ python setupscons.py scons --jobs=2 and received the following error /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/Resources/Python.app/Contents/MacOS/Python: can't open file 'setupscons.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory Can anyone think of a possible workaround?

    Hello! I decidet to start my own web project. It should be highload project, and I can't decide which technologies should I use. I'm good in ASP.NET MVC, but I like languages like Python more than C#. I read a lot about Python and Django/Pylons/etc but I didn't find any good examples of highload projects on python. So, the question is: Is Python good for highload project? Is it enough fast? And if it is, are python frameworks like django/pylons/etc good for this? Or asp.net mvc will be better choice? PS, I'm not interesting in Java, Ruby and PHP :) So, I'm choosing only between Python + django/pylons/etc and asp.net mvc. Thanks in advance. Please, don't make holywars :)

    Hello everyone, I'm looking for a full stack framework (from persistency to view generation (CRUD)) for Java. I don't have experience with Rails style frameworks, like Grails, but I worked a lot with Hibernate, Struts, Spring ... I prefer a framework that let you naturally modify the business domain design with the less effort ( i.e. writing the sql querys to modify the tables and constrains, change the view pages, etc ... ).   • Looking for substantial open source GWT/App-Engine project to use as reference

    I'm working on GAE-J/GWT app, wherein a desktop app connects to the GAE-J component, and there is also a web-app component whose front-end is written in GWT, and the GAE-J backend supports both the desktop app and the web app. I have a good amount of experience with writing pure server code and desktop code, but not so much on the web-app side of things. So I'm looking to study some good sophisticated open source code to see how other's have done things, but I can't find much open source GWT and/or GAE-J stuff, other than frameworks. Does anyone know of any good projects out there?

  • cross domain DOM access and manipulation in Java ?

    In my Java app, how can I incorporate the browser (which loads and renders URLs) in Swing and access it's DOM and manipulate HTML ? How can you embed such browser in a Rich Internet Application and access it's DOM ? More specifically, Vaadin ? Is there a HTTP proxy class that can load an external URL, and render it to the user ? This was what I was doing on LAMP stack....but I want to switch to Vaadin or some Java web framework where I can just use Java to do everything from server-side to client-side logic design, so I can focus more on application logic. I am new to Ruby on Rails and I have a (maybe naive) question: I want to implement reflection of direct SQL Updates of the underlying database in an ActiveRecord (and finally in the generated html). By "direct updates" I mean updating the database bypassing the ActiveRecord methods, for example by MySQL console. I guess here MySQL triggers could be used that would call some stored procedure that would cause the appropriate ActiveRecord to be reloaded. Is there some automatic handling of this scenario in ActiveRecord/Ruby on Rails ? Did somebody implement this scenario ? Can somebody recommend using other MVC frameworks to reflect direct changes in mapped databases ?

    I'm creating a prototype for a java web application. Frontend is a Swing-based java applet. Backend should be a type of web-service, that is called by applet. Backend should run inside a servlet container and should have its own security (username/password) database. I know, that Tomcat has its own user database (realm), but the app should have own. Web-services, in turn, carrying out app logic and database access (via Hibernate). I'm a newbie for a web development and I'm getting lost in a huge amount of the java web frameworks. Even just reading 'introduction' and 'getting started' documents takes a lot of time. So I need an advice which framework(s) are suitable for the task and not very complex for a quick start.     If I have a REST based service written in the Symfony [symfony-project.org] framework (i.e. PHP), is there any decent tools/frameworks out there that will parse my code and generate API documentation? The Java based framework enunciate has documentation capabilities similar to what I need, you can view an example of this here: http://enunciate.codehaus.org/wannabecool/step1/index.html. I understand the premise of REST based services are supposed to be self evident, however I was after something that would generate this documentation for me without the need to manually write up all my endpoints, supported formats, sample output etc. Thanks

  • How to structure web application with part of it being secured (SSL)

    What is the common pattern to structure web application where part of it has to be secured. So lets say I have page_a and page_b which do not need to be secured, although should display login information (login fields or login details once user logged in). This web app. also would have secured pages (admin, checkout or similar) secure_page_c and secure_page_d. My questions are: What is the common folder structure for such assuming I code in php with no frameworks? Also how shall I deal with session variables in case user navigates lets say from secure_page_b to non secure page_a or vice versa? What else might be a problem and should be considered when coding that kind of app in php? Thank you all for any suggestions

    I'm using NUnit for testing back-end. Unit tests are being executed while building (I'm using TeamCity for continuous building). Now I hove to test front-end (Silverlight 4.0). Because the tests are being executed while building, I have to simulate browser (TypeMock - is not free, isn't it?) could I use NUnit.Mocks somehow?. How to use NUnit for Silverlight testing? I've found WHITE framework could it help? Any other advises about software/frameworks to use for Silverlight unit testing?

Users will have different custom metrics, businesses willl have seperate metrics, the admin section will have seperate, Advertises will have seperate, etc. So basically the goal is to have 1 framework in place for all Analytics, which will be custom user to user and even use that for the system analytic needs also. It will include data analytics as there will be user ratings/reviews to perfomr data mining on for businesses, USers will have basic reporting on their needs (like friend demographics, filter by different preferences, etc).     On Tiger, I used a custom python installation to evaluate newer versions and I did not have any problems with that*. Now Snow Leopard is a little more up-to-date and by default ships with $ ls /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/ 2.3 2.5 2.6 @Current What could be considered best practice? Using the python shipped with Mac OS X or a custom compiled version in, say $HOME. Are there any advantages/disadvantages using the one option over the other? My setup was fairly simple so far and looked like this: Custom compiled Python in $HOME and a $PATH that would look into $HOME/bin first, and subsequently would use my private Python version. Also $PYTHONPATH pointed to this local installation. This way, I did not need to sudo–install packages - virtualenv took care of the rest.

What dependencies would I need. I have tried to Google this however the examples I have found are either incomplete or are doing something else.     My application demands archiving database tables between sybase and db2 and vice-a-versa and within(db2 to db2 and sybase to sybase) using java. I am trying to understand the best strategies around in terms performance, implementation, ease of use and scalability. Here is my current process - source and destination tables with the acceptable parameters (from java) are defined within xml. the application reads the source and destination configurations and execute them sequentially. destination is sometime optional when source is just deleting data from a specific table or when the source is just calling a stored procedure. dataset between source and destination is extremely large (in millions) From top of my head, it looks like I can define dependencies between multiple source and destination combination and have them execute in parallel in multiple treads. But will this improve any performance(i hope it will)? Are there any open-source frameworks for data archiving using java? Any other thoughts on the implements side will be really helpful. Thanks

  • Why can't there be an "ultimate" programming language? [closed]

    There is an uncountable sum of programming languages out there. They obviously all have their pro's and con's - but why can't there be one to "beat them all"? The main part of a programming language is it's syntax and what's possible with it. The rest are usually only a bunch of libraries, frameworks and extensions wrapped around it. So couldn't you combine all the great aspects and experiences gained from the thousands of programming languages out there to build one with a syntax that fits every task? Wouldn't it be better having only one programming language? I see only problems with the current amount of the ones in use. Why can't there be a perfect language when thinking of syntax, constructs and typing?

    Hi, I am trying to import ctypes, and I am using Python 2.5.5 installed using macports (on Mac OS X 10.6). I get an error saying "ImportError: No module named _ctypes" (see details below). As I understand it ctypes is supposed to come preinstalled for python 2.5.   • iPhone application build fails with "dyld: Library not loaded: /System/[...]" error? Why?

    For my own reasons and not for the app store I am referencing the Apple private framework Apple80211 in an iPhone app. I got the framework from an earlier version of the iPhone SDK. I added the "existing framework", verified that that absolute path to the framework is /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS4.0.sdk/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework and tried to build the app. But the build (to device) fails with the error dyld: Library not loaded: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Apple80211 Referenced from: /var/mobile/Applications/3691587D-87AF-44EA-A505-F73D17F39B3B/iWire2.app/iWire2 Reason: image not found I cannot figure out why Xcode would look for the library in a /System path (instead of using the path given in the frameworks list) or how to change that behaviour. I tried the tricks I found here and elsewhere for similar (and identical) sitiations: Delete the myusername.* files in the xcodeproj bundle Delete the build directory Clean all targets Start new project Result is always the same. How can I add this (or a) framework to an iPhone project AND get Xcode to at least look at the library located where I point to rather than a location in /System?

    This question is for learning purposes. Suppose I am writing a simple SQL admin console using CGI and Python. At http://something.com/admin, this admin console should allow me to modify a SQL database (i.e., create and modify tables, and create and modify records) using an ordinary form. In the least secure case, anybody can access http://something.com/admin and modify the database. You can password protect http://something.com/admin. But once you start using the admin console, information is still transmitted in plain text. So then you use HTTPS to secure the transmitted data. Questions: To describe to a learner, how would you incrementally add security to the least secure environment in order to make it most secure? How would you modify/augment my three (possibly erroneous) steps above? What basic tools in Python make your steps possible? Optional: Now that I understand the process, how do sophisticated libraries and frameworks inherently achieve this level of security?

    I'm currently looking for some libraries which might help me during iPhone Development using Appcelerator Titanium. I've heard that since version 1.0 it isn't dependant on webkit anymore and it makes app-development more exiting of course, please correct me if i'm wrong. As many people out there i love Javascript Frameworks such as JQuery and Mootools much, but they were build specifically to do a great job within a browser and most of the functionality is not needed within the environment Titanium now provides (DOM-Manipulation etc). Is there any other small library of useful functions i can use for development? Thx in advance.
