• Broadcom bcm4311 rev2 Full disabled on battery

  Ok this is my problem... My problem begins while ago when I installed ubuntu 10.10. (is the same with 11.04,11.10...) My wireless card is disabled if the power cord is unplugged, and the only way to fix this is rebooting my pc WITH the power cord plugged and if I use lspci command, it doesn't show me the wireless card. is like if I've removed the wireless board from my laptop port. I've searched a lot of solutions for bcmw4311 issues, but none of them fix my problem because when apply one of the fixes, if I unplug the cord, my wireless card it just gone away... I have dual boot on my pc(w7,ubuntu), I've tried with full installation just to see if this is the problem, but not, is the same. On windows all work correctly with and without power cord.. so this is not a hardware problem, is more like a kernel problem. anyway I can use wireless with power cord plugged, but c'mon this is a laptop not a desktop pc XD haha any help is welcome

• Youtube showing horizontal lines when full screen in google chrome

  First, im new in ubuntu so please bear with me. My google chrome shows strange behavior when playing youtube videos in full screen mode. There will be some horizontal white lines, which is exactly like when you playing the game without the vsync. I've checked firefox and the videos working perfectly in there. I also tried to play videos from my HDD using VLC player and its working fine. It seems the problem is in the google chrome alone. My version of ubuntu is 13.04, my laptop is asus n46vz and i use the latest release of google chrome. I've tried to ask google, but it seems he has no answer. Thanks for your time :D

• Preseed Ubuntu installation with full disk encryption

  I am trying to set up Ubuntu full disk encryption using preseeding. I was able to set things up correctly following the preseed file presented here. But I do not want to provide the default password in the preseed file. Is there a way to let ubiquity fall to the screen that asks for the encryption passphrase just like it does when the username is not provided in the preseed file? When I try to leave the passphrase option empty in the preseed file, I get an error in the installer saying "An error occured while creating the keyfile".

• After install of kubuntu-full, no longer have access to Unity login

  I installed Ubuntu 13.10 about a week ago. Just today I went ahead and installed kubuntu-full to get KDE and it's associated programs. I want to keep the Unity login screen though (default when you install Ubuntu). I can't seem to get this working. Doing a 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm' or 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm' and choosing either one of those does not get me there. If I choose gdm, I just end up with a gnome login screen. If I pick lightdm, I end up with a KDE login screen. Doesn't seem to be an option for choosing the unity login screen (whatever it's called). Any assistance?

  Hello, I have a C# program where I am using a lot of RegEx.Replace to replace text in my text file. Here is my problem. In my text file, I have a code such as "M6T1". This code is listed in numerous places in the text file. However, I only want to delete it from the bottom (last instance) in the text file. There will always be a "M6T1" at the bottom of the text file, but it is not always the last line. It could be the 3rd line from the bottom, the 5th line from the bottom etc. I only want to get rid of the last instance of "M6T1" so RegEx.Replace won't work here. I don't want to interfer with the other "M6T1"'s in the other locations in the text file. Can someone please give me a solution to this problem? Thanks

  I have an input txt file which has data in the form of records (each row is a record and represents more or less like a DB table) and I need to find for duplicate values. For example: Rec1: ACCOUNT_NBR_1*NAME_1*VALUE_1 Rec2: ACCOUNT_NBR_2*NAME_2*VALUE_2 Rec3: ACCOUNT_NBR_1*NAME_3*VALUE_3 In the above set, the Rec1 and Rec2 are considered to be duplicates as the ACCOUNT NUMBERS are same(ACCOUNT_NBR1). Note: The input file shown above is a delimiter type file (the delimiter being *) however the file type can also be a fixed length file where each column starts and ends with a specified positions. I am currently doing this with the following logic: Loop thru each ACCOUNT NUMBER Loop thru each line of the txt file and record and check if this is repeated. If repeated record the same in a hashtable. End End And I am using 'Pattern' & 'BufferedReader' java API's to perform the above task. But since it is taking a long time, I would like to know a better way of handling it. Thanks, Shibu

  Hello All, First of all I am very thankful to the owner of this website. I have learned and implement various technologies with the help of solutions provided by the readers. I know the question I asked is posted many time in this forum. And I have tired all of the solutions available, but no luck I may case I am trying to read a dat file which is basically a msg/feed file having more than 22000 Characters. Every line may or may not be of same length. My requirement is to convert the file to fixed line length character file. I have a logic that work well using vb script, however its pretty slow. I have checked with For f/ but no luck. The only delimiter I have is EOT, which i can see in Textpad but not in notepad. I have tried with \n, token=. Please help me in resolving the issue.   I own an Asus N56VZ, and each time I start Ubuntu (13.10 and prior versions) my screen brightness and keyboard backlights reset their values to the max. Ubuntu doesn't save my settings on reboot. I was wondering if someone could help me with this? It is horrible when, at night, I turn on my computer - it is like looking directly to the sun, and it hurts my eyes. I tried googling and none of the pages I found actually helped. I think my issue might be grub-related. I have a dual-boot with Windows 8.1, so before I start my computer I see grub to choose my operating system. My screen starts at full brightness as soon as I reach grub. Maybe he is making the OS forget about my last values, overriding it with its? Does someone knows how to solve this? Thanks in advance :) PS: I'm using bumblebee with Nvidia driver 304, but this issue existed before I installed it.

• Installed 11.10 on shared drive, when other partition mounted, HDD shown full

  I just partitioned a 500GB HDD 50%-50%. I installed ubuntu 11.10 on one half and copied a load of files onto the other. When I don't mount the other partition, it shows I have used 12.1GB and have about 240GB free. The second I mount the other partition, I can't copy any files over and get a disk full message. There is about 10-20GB Free on the other partition. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

• Videos stutter in full screen

  Using Ubuntu 12.04 with Gnome 3.4.2. When I load video files (avi, mkv, mp4), they play smoothly in windowed mode, but when in full screen, they mildly (but noticeably) stutter. I've tried various players (from VLC to SMplayer2), with many different output drivers and it's always the same. Also, my video card is AMD Radeon HD 6450, and I've had no luck with the proprietary FGLRX drivers. Every time I install them, my system becomes very sluggish (window dragging animations become choppy etc.). Thanks in advance, guys.

  Hi We have a full-text catalog that is populated via a job every 15 minutes like so: ALTER FULLTEXT INDEX ON [dbo].[WorkItemLongTexts] START INCREMENTAL POPULATION We have encountered a problem where the database containing this catalog locks up. There are a couple of scenarios, we either see the job execute and the process hang with with a wait type of UNKNOWN TOKEN, or we see another process hang with a wait type of MSSEARCH. Once this happens the job continues to run but informs us that the request to start a full-text index population is ignored because a population is currently active. Looking in the full text log files we see the following error each time these problems occur: 2010-04-21 08:15:00.76 spid21s The full-text catalog health monitor reported a failure for full-text catalog "XXXFullTextCatalog" (5) in database "YYY" (14). Reason code: 0. Error: 0x8001010e(The application called an interface that was marshalled for a different thread.). The system will restart any in-progress population from the previous checkpoint. If this message occurs frequently, consult SQL Server Books Online for troubleshooting assistance. This is an informational message only. No user action is required."'' The only solution is to restart the SQL Server service and then the full text service. This is now occuring on a daily basis now so any help would be appreciated.

  Oracle Text provides a rich query syntax which enables powerful text searches.However, this syntax isn't intended for use by inexperienced end-users.  If you provide a simple search box in your application, you probably want users to be able to type "Google-like" searches into the box, and have your application convert that into something that Oracle Text understands.For example if your user types "windows nt networking" then you probably want to convert this into something like"windows ACCUM nt ACCUM networking".  But beware - "NT" is a reserved word, and needs to be escaped.  So let's escape all words:"{windows} ACCUM {nt} ACCUM {networking}".  That's fine - until you start introducing wild cards. Then you must escape only non-wildcarded searches:"win% ACCUM {nt} ACCUM {networking}".  There are quite a few other "gotchas" that you might encounter along the way.Then there's the issue of scoring.  Given a query for "oracle text query syntax", it would be nice if we could score a full phrase match higher than a hit where all four words are present but not in a phrase.  And then perhaps lower than that would be a document where three of the four terms are present.  Progressive relaxation helps you with this, but you need to code the "progression" yourself in most cases.To help with this, I've developed a query parser which will take queries in Google-like syntax, and convert them into Oracle Text queries. It's designed to be as flexible as possible, and will generate either simple queries or progressive relaxation queries. The input string will typically just be a string of words, such as "oracle text query syntax" but the grammar does allow for more complex expressions:  word : score will be improved if word exists  +word : word must exist  -word : word CANNOT exist  "phrase words" : words treated as phrase (may be preceded by + or -)  field:(expression) : find expression (which allows +,- and phrase as above) within "field". So for example if I searched for   +"oracle text" query +syntax -ctxcatThen the results would have to contain the phrase "oracle text" and the word syntax. Any documents mentioning ctxcat would be excluded from the results. All the instructions are in the top of the file (see "Downloads" at the bottom of this blog entry).  Please download the file, read the instructions, then try it out by running "parser.pls" in either SQL*Plus or SQL Developer.I am also uploading a test file "test.sql". You can run this and/or modify it to run your own tests or run against your own text index. test.sql is designed to be run from SQL*Plus and may not produce useful output in SQL Developer (or it may, I haven't tried it).I'm putting the code up here for testing and comments. I don't consider it "production ready" at this point, but would welcome feedback.  I'm particularly interested in comments such as "The instructions are unclear - I couldn't figure out how to do XXX" "It didn't work in my environment" (please provide as many details as possible) "We can't use it in our application" (why not?)   I need to remove some malware from my computer. It is a trojan, and very annoying. It blocks access to Google and search sites. The trojan, with its name spelled out on each line cause it seems to block sites when i reference it in a url, is a r t (some text to mess it up) e m (more text i s First off, what is it, what does it do? Second, why can't I access google or yahoo or any other search sites at all? Third, can it be removed via McAffee? It says it quarantined it when I scanned I found a suspicious process "c"s"r"s"s".exe and it will not let me terminate it, and this is what Mcaffee says it is. • How can I get the Terminal raster font to display alt codes in a text editor?

  I am working on a project that includes making some ASCII art, except it isn't true ASCII art since I am using a far amount of Windows Alt codes to make it. Anyways, I wanted to make sure that as I am working on it, that it looks exactly how it will in a windows command prompt terminal session. So since command prompt defaults to the Terminal raster font, I figured I would use that. But I quickly noticed that when I use the Terminal typeface in a text editor, it will not render ASCII codes, either at all (as is the case most of the time) or incorrectly. Now, I understand if a font just doesn't support non-ASCII characters, but what I don't get is how the characters do show up correctly in command prompt when they don't in a text editor. I checked the output of the 'chcp' and it was set to 437 by default, which is what I need. Well, either that or 850 but preferably 437 since they got rid of some of the graphics in 437 and replaced them with other Latin characters. Command prompt terminal settings show I am using the Terminal raster font with a 8x12 glyph size. So I try using size 12 in the text editor but no good, even after switching the text encoding to either MS-DOS OEM-US (supposedly an alternative name for CP437) or UTF-8. I just don't get how I am not getting the characters to show up. Also, if it helps, the art I am making is basically modified screen shots from a game I play called Dwarf Fortress that uses characters from the Terminal/Curses typeset, or at least that is how it is reported in the forums by those who make graphics sets to replace the default character set. However, the game doesn't actually use the system's Terminal font. The game's data files includes a bitmap image that is a grid of all the characters the game uses. So it uses this bitmap to render graphics instead of the actual font file. And I basically want to get a text editor to make it so if I type up some ASCII art to look like a screenshot from Dwarf Fortress, that it will actually look like Dwarf Fortress other than the lack of color. Any help?
