• Django: ordering numerical value with order_by

  I'm in a situation where I must output a quite large list of objects by a CharField used to store street addresses. My problem is, that obviously the data is ordered by ASCII codes since it's a Charfield, with the predictable results .. it sort the numbers like this; 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 2, 20, 21.... Now the obvious step would be to change the Charfield the proper field type (IntegerField let's say), however it cannot work since some address might have apartments .. like "128A". I really don't know how I can order this properly ..

• execute javascsript for loop alternately forward and backward

  What I'm trying to do is iterate through an array in chunks, alternating the direction of iteration from chunk to chunk. Confused? So am I. For example, if I want to loop thru an array with 25 elements, but I want to do it in this order: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, what would be the most efficient way of doing this? I'm looking for something scalable because the array I'm working with now is actually 225 elements and I want to traverse it in 15 element chunks, but that may change at some point. So far, the only method I've figured out that actually works is to hard-wire the iteration order into a second array and then iterate through that in the normal way to get the indices for the original array. But that sucks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Rails botches the SQL on a complex save

  Hi, I am doing something seemingly pretty easy, but Rails is messing up the SQL. I could just execute my own SQL, but the framework should be able to handle this. Here is the save I am trying to perform: w = WhipSenVote.find(:first, :conditions => ["whip_bill_id = ? AND whip_sen_id = ?", bill_id, k]) w.votes_no = w.votes_no - 1 w.save My generated SQL looks like this: SELECT * FROM "whip_sen_votes" WHERE (whip_bill_id = E'1' AND whip_sen_id = 7) LIMIT 1 And then: UPDATE "whip_sen_votes" SET "votes_yes" = 14, "updated_at" = '2009-11-13 19:55:54.807000' WHERE "id" = 15 The first select statement is correct, but as you can see, the Update SQL statement is pretty wrong, though the votes_yes value is correct. Any ideas? Thanks!

If it's the parent game, it only looks for games with parent_id same as it's id. The problem is... it's not always working. I have four games in db: id | parent_id | title 15 | 0 | Abe 19 | 15 | Abe 20 | 0 | RE2 21 | 20 | RE2 DS First two works, last two - only children (id = 21) shows parent.

  I have a problem in replacing codes in a dataframe of 3890 observations. My dataframe has a character variable df$IJN which contains values from 1 to 27. I would like to replace these with meaningful data as follow If(1 OR 6 OR 10 OR 14 OR 18 OR 22 OR 26) should be replaced with UL. If(3 OR 7 OR 11 OR 15 OR 19 OR 23 OR 27) should be replaced with LL. If(4 OR 8 OR 12 OR 16 OR 20 OR 24) should be replaced with UR. If(5 OR 9 OR 13 OR 17 OR 21 OR 25) should be replaced with LR. (U,L,R,and L Refer to Upper, Lower, Right, and Left sites in the order) I thought of a for() with if() could not manage with it Also thought of df[which(df=="27")] ="LL" may work one by one not sure! • Display continious dates in Pivot Chart

  I have a set of data in a pivot table with date times and events. I've made a pivot chart with this data, and grouped the data by day and year, then display a count of events for each day. So, my horizontal axis goes from 19 March 2007 to 11 May 2010, and my vertical axis is numeric, going from zero to 140. For some days, I have zero events. These days don't seem to be shown on the horizontal axis, so 2008 is narrower than 2009. How do I display a count of zero for days with no events? I'd like my horizontal axis to be continuous, so that it does not miss any days, and every month ends up taking up the same amount of horizontal space. (This question is similar to the unanswered question here, but I'd rather not generate a table of all the days in the last x number of years just to get a smooth plot!)

That is to say the first row in the matrix {10,23,16,20,2,4} has 4 numbers from arr, this array should be grouped with the rest of the rows with 4 numbers from arr. better to use linq, thank you very much!

• How to generate distinct random numbers per distinct threads in .NET?

  Dear ladies and sirs. I have to generate 19 bit random numbers. However, there is a constraint - two threads may not generate the same random number when running certain code. The simplest solution is lock the entire code. However, I would like to know if there is a non locking solution. I thought, I can incorporate ManagedThreadId within the produced random numbers, but the ManagedThreadId documentation on the Internet mentions that it may span the whole Int32 range. Unmanaged thread id seems to be limited to 11 bits, still this leaves me with just 8 truly random bits. Are there any other ways? Somehow to utilize the Thread Local Storage, may be? Thanks.

  I'm looking for some followup on an older topic for Wordpress where SQL_CALC was found to slow things down when you have a large DB in Wordpress. I have been using the code, at the bottom of this post, to get around it but it does generate an error in my error log. How would I prevent this error?   I need to open a new pop up window on click of a button in a view. The new window should be redirect to a specific actionmethod in a specific controller. I also need to provide attributes for size of the new pop up window. • Python raises a KeyError (for an out of dictionary key) even though the key IS in the dictionary

  I'm getting a KeyError for an out of dictionary key, even though I know the key IS in fact in the dictionary. Any ideas as to what might be causing this? print G.keys() returns the following: ['24', '25', '20', '21', '22', '23', '1', '3', '2', '5', '4', '7', '6', '9', '8', '11', '10', '13', '12', '15', '14', '17', '16', '19', '18'] but when I try to access a value in the dictionary on the next line of code... for w in G[v]: #note that in this example, v = 17 I get the following error message: KeyError: 17 Any help, tips, or advice are all appreciated.
