  • Does SDHC have any write (ECC) error recovery ?

    What happen if SDHC card get write error (damaged cell / bad sector) ? Whole card is unusable (to trash, all data written to that sector now and in future will be lost) ? or rewrite sector (flash memory get corrupted when writing so maybe have any function to check if sector was written successfully) to another and mark as fault as unusable what will be seen as reduction of capacity but no data lost. I have to do some research about SD card-s on disk less machines. regards

  • Do I need a Gigabit router with a 24Mbps down and 7Mbps upload speed cable modem?

    Do I need a Gigabit port capable wireless router with a 24Mbps down and 7Mbps upload speed cable modem? Does anyone know how to calculate this? FYI, I wont be using the wireless connection from my main computer system. My computer will connect via a hard wire into the router (of the wireless variety), which in turn is connected to the cable modem. My research suggests that the 100 Mbps port can easily handle it. Is that true?

  • ZFS recordsize for VirtualBox and other virtual disks

    Has anyone run across any good benchmarks or other research on tuning the ZFS recordsize when putting virtual disk files on it for a guest OS? I'm using VirtualBox at the moment. I have notice significant performance improvement when working with a DBMS by setting the ZFS recordsize to the same as the DB blocksize, so I'm guessing matching the blocksize of the guest filesystem would also be a good idea.

  • Update Windows Defender schedule via command line or gpo?

    I'm looking to find a way to update some Windows Defender settings via command line, gpo etc. From my research it looks like windows defender creates a hidden scheduled task named 'MP Scheduled Scan', but modifying this task does not seem to make a difference as to what shows up in the Windows Defender UI. I have also done some process monitoring to see what data Windows Defender uses and I can see that it reads/writes to the 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scan' ScheduleDay key, but if I attempt to modify this key, I get an "Error Writing the new values contents" error message.

    In VLC for Android, i discovered an option to preserve the pitch during faster-than-normal playback: The "requires a fast device" obviously implies that faster playback is more performant when the pitch is changed too. Why is that so? What i've tried: Before posting this question i did some shallow research through Google. According to Wikipedia, there are several methods for faster playback of audio, the "simplest" one (Resampling) changes the pitch.

  • Wordpress on shared/grid hosting

    I'm running a basic wordpress site on a GoDaddy Grid Hosting account, and the load times are just terrible (5-15 seconds). I'm considering moving it to an older GoDaddy account I have that still uses standard shared hosting, which seems alot faster, but all of the research I've done points to grid hosting being better. Is this just my account, or has anyone else experienced this? Grid was just as slow when I tried running PHPBB on it as well.

  • What happens in case of utility power failure?

    (in the office) Today, the UPS battery replace warning light lit up and there was a slight panic as the all the technical people will not be around the next few days. But after thinking a bit further, I realise that in case of power failure, no client computers will be able to turn on in the first place and operations will be disrupted regardless of whether the UPS keeps the server up. This makes me wonder if the UPS is really such a critical component? What do you think?

No one wants to use our current CMS for this, but rather WordPress or something else. The obvious, a static HTML page is out. I've done some research and couldn't find any specific technical difference in general usage. While the term fetch can refer to one stage in CPU instruction execution, I've seen it used in contexts not related to CPUs, and I'm looking for an answer that is not specific to CPUs.

  • VM using a secondary graphic card

    Hi everyone, at the moment i have a dual monitor setup on my main PCIe gfx card. I know that on windows it is almost impossible to have a second card (eg no thrills PCI card) running without having an SLI motherboard because of a driver issue. Well this was my conclusion after many weeks of research. I was thinking...is it possible to use a VM in order to utilize the secondary card as the default video output to feed another monitor? let me know if you want me to clarify Thanks :)

I have space on my Lab account which i usually SSH into, and i was wondering if URL's can be directly transferred over to a remote machine and saved on the hard disk.   • Change default root user with a new one on Ubuntu Server

    I have a VPS, until now I used the default root user for SSH access and everything. For security reasons I'd like to use a different user for root, terminal access and sudo operations. So I created another user, gave him the sudo and every other perm. The problem is that all the system files belongs to root. What happens if I set PermitRootLogin No for root? Those files wouldn't be editable by the new root user!

From what limited research I've been able to complete, I have found that it is possible to access Derby databases over TCP, but I'm at a complete loss for this.   • RSS Reader with inline image downloader for offline viewing

    Guess the title kind of says it all, I know there have been a few of these questions before and I have tirelessly tried to do this research but have had very little luck. Essentially I love Google Reader and gears for offline viewing but more and more blogs are referring to diagrams and pictures in their articles and if I'm on a plane, I am not able to see any of these since they are not downloaded during offline mode.
