And Name is split into 2 words (other words in middle are omitted), first word is taken as first anme and last word as last name.. Now I would like to implement search based on relevance. • Integration testing - can it be done right?

  I used TDD as a development style on some projects in the past two years, but I always get stuck on the same point: how can I test the integration of the various parts of my program? What I am currently doing is writing a testcase per class (this is my rule of thumb: a "unit" is a class, and each class has one or more testcases). I try to resolve dependencies by using mocks and stubs and this works really well as each class can be tested independently. After some coding, all important classes are tested. I then "wire" them together using an IoC container. And here I am stuck: How to test if the wiring was successfull and the objects interact the way I want? An example: Think of a web application. There is a controller class which takes an array of ids, uses a repository to fetch the records based on these ids and then iterates over the records and writes them as a string to an outfile. To make it simple, there would be three classes: Controller, Repository, OutfileWriter. Each of them is tested in isolation. What I would do in order to test the "real" application: making the http request (either manually or automated) with some ids from the database and then look in the filesystem if the file was written. Of course this process could be automated, but still: doesn´t that duplicate the test-logic? Is this what is called an "integration test"? In a book i recently read about Unit Testing it seemed to me that integration testing was more of an anti-pattern?

  I'm hoping for an idea on the best way to approach what I'm trying to do. I have a table with a list of transactions. Each transactions has a PostDate in DateTime format. I have another table holding the fiscal period values. This table has the following columns; FiscalYear, FiscalMonth, StartDate, EndDate. I'm trying to write a query that will return all values from my transactions table, along with the FiscalYear and FiscalMonth of the PostDate. So I guess I'm just trying to return the FiscalYear and FiscalMonth values when the PostDate falls between the StartDate and EndDate. I've tried using a Subbuery, but I have little experience with them and kept returning an error message that the subquery was returning more than 1 value.   I want to see if I have repeated items in my array, there are over 16.000 so will automate it There may be other ways but I started with this and, well, would like to finish it unless there is a straightforward command. What I am doing is shifting and pushing from one array into another and this way, check the destination array to see if it is "in array" (like there is such a command in PHP). So, I got this sub routine and it works with literals, but it doesn't with variables. It is because of the 'eq' or whatever I should need. The 'sourcefile' will contain one or more of the words of the destination array. my @destination = ('hi', 'bye'); sub in_array { my ($destination,$search_for) = @_; return grep {$search_for eq $_} @$destination; } for($i = 0; $i <=100; $i ++) { $elemento = shift @sourcefile; if(in_array(\@destination, $elemento)) { print "it is"; } else { print "it aint there"; } } Well, if instead of including the $elemento in there I put a 'hi' it does work and also I have printed the value of $elemento which is also 'hi', but when I put the variable, it does not work, and that is because of the 'eq', but I don't know what else to put. If I put == it complains that 'hi' is not a numeric value.

  Let's say I have a string in an RTL language such as Arabic with some English chucked in: string s = "Test:?????;?????;?????;a;b" Notice there are semicolons in the string. When I use the Split command like string[] spl = s.Split(';');, then some of the strings are saved in reverse order. This is what happens: ??Test:????? ????? ????? a b The above is out of order compared to the original. Instead, I expect to get this: ?Test: ????? ????? ????? a b I'm prepared to write my own split function. However, the chars in the string also parse in reverse order, so I'm back to square one. I just want to go through each character as it's shown on the screen.

  Hello, i have some issue with database. Okay, i have two models - Page and Item. Page for displaying some content. Item - this is item discription. So, i work on small ecommerce shop. Okay, all of this models can have some comments. So, this is my Comments model at this moment: Comments - string : id text : body integer : page_id integer : item_id So when some one add comment to page - page_id will be filled with current Page id. And if some one add comment to item - item_id will be filled. Okay, i know what the best way is to create STI or Polymorphic assoc, but does i really need this way for my situation? Sorry for my bad english, i'm from Russia.=)

• Stop SQL returning the same result twice in a JOIN

  I have joined together several tables to get data i want but since I am new to SQL i can't figure out how to stop data being returned more than once. her's the SQL statement; SELECT T.url, T.ID, S.status, S.ID, E.action, E.ID, E.timestamp FROM tracks T, status S, events E WHERE S.ID AND T.ID = E.ID ORDER BY E.timestamp DESC The data that is returned is something like this; +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | URL | ID | Status | ID | action | ID | timestamp | +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | T.1 | 4 | hello | 4 | has uploaded a track | 4 | time | | T.2 | 3 | bye | 3 | has some news | 3 | time | | t.1 | 4 | more | 4 | has some news | 4 | time | +----------------------------------------------------------------+ That's a very basic example but does outline what happens. If you look at the third row the URL is repeated when there is a different status. This is what I want to happen; +-------------------------------------------------------+ | URL or Status | ID | action | timestamp | +-------------------------------------------------------+ | T.1 | 4 | has uploaded a track | time | | hello | 3 | has some news | time | | bye | 4 | has some news | time | +-------------------------------------------------------+ Please notice that the the url (in this case the mock one is T.1) is shown when the action is has uploaded a track. This is very important. The action in the events table is inserted on trigger of a status or track insert. If a new track is inserted the action is 'has uploaded a track' and you guess what it is for a status. The ID and timestamp is also inserted into the events table at this point. Note: There are more tables that go into the query, 3 more in fact, but I have left them out for simplicity.

Instead it is just returning the value of the global variable which I used for pthread_exit. Is it not a bug?

  I have a table listing clothing items (shirt, trousers, etc) named . Each item is identified with a unique CLOTHING.CLOTHING_ID. So a blue shirt is 01, a flowery shirt is 12 and jeans are 07 say. I have a second table identifying outfits with a column for shirts, for trousers, shoes etc. For example Outfit 1: shirt 01, trousers 07 (i.e. blue shirt with jeans) Outfit 2: shirt 12, trousers 07 (so flowery shirt with jeans). This table is named and each outfit is unique with OUTFIT_LIST.OUTFIT_ID. I want to produce a select statement that will list each outfit's contents, i.e. find the clothing specified in Outfit 1. Any help would be very much appreciated, and apologies in advance if I am missing a very simple solution. I have been playing with JOINS of all descriptions and CONCATS and so on with now luck - I am very new to this. Thanks.

  I need to build a cross platform mobile app (iphone, android, etc). The app is for a company like a cellular operator (Tmobile, ATT). The app needs to do the following: Show previous bills (cached so that it does not have to download everytime) Need an internet connection to download newer bills, view recent data, etc. Can I build a mobile web app to handle this? I understand that there is offline storage and iPhone has good support for web apps (full screen, good icons, offline, etc). Will a web app be the best approach to take as the app requires to be online? The app will not be used by lots of people, just customers of the website who don't want to use an existing website. We are all web developers and a mobile web app looks like the best way to approach this.

  Hello, I'm new at active record association in rails so i don't know how to solve the following problem: I have a tables called 'meetings' and 'users'. I have correctly associated these two together by making a table 'participants' and set the following association statements: class Meeting < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :participants, :dependent => :destroy has_many :users, :through => :participants and class Participant < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :meeting belongs_to :user and the last model class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :participants, :dependent => :destroy At this point all is going well and i can access the user values of attending participants of a specific meeting by calling @meeting.users in the normal meetingshow.html.erb view. Now i want to make connections between these participants. Therefore i made a model called 'connections' and created the columns of 'meeting_id', 'user_id' and 'connected_user_id'. So these connections are kinda like friendships within a certain meeting. My question is: How can i set the model associations so i can easily control these connections? I would like to see a solution where i could use @meeting.users.each do |user| user.connections.each do |c| <do something> end end I tried this by changing the model of meetings to this: class Meeting < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :participants, :dependent => :destroy has_many :users, :through => :participants has_many :connections, :dependent => :destroy has_many :participating_user_connections, :through => :connections, :source => :user Please, does anyone have a solution/tip how to solve this the rails way?

  It seems to work ok but I don't know if this can be impoved on or not. I want to select any HTML tag that has a class of edit-text-NUM or edit-html-NUM and change the color of it. • The right way to implement communication between java objects

  I'm working on an academic project which simulates a rather large queuing procedure in java. The core of the simulator rests within one package where there exist 8 classes each one implementing a single concept. Every class in the project follows SRP. These classes encapsulate the behavior of the simulator and inter-connect every other class in the project. The problem that I has arisen is that most of these 8 classes are, as is logical i think, tightly coupled and each one has to have working knowledge of every other class in this package in order to be able to call methods from it when needed. The application needs only one instance of each class so it might be better to create static fields for each class in a new class and use that to make calls -instead of preserving a reference in each class for every other class in the package (which I'm certain that is incorrect)-, but is this considered a correct design solution? or is there a design pattern maybe that better suits my needs?
