  • Should I use multiple column primary keys or add a new column?

    My current database design makes use of a multiple column primary key to use existing data (that would be unique anyway) instead of creating an additional column assigning each entry an arbitrary key. I know that this is allowed, but was wondering if this is a practice that I might want to use cautiously and possibly avoid (much like goto in C). So what are some of the disadvantages I might see in this approach or reasons I might want a single column key?

    I have this entry in .xsession-errors log "Nautilus-Share-Message: Called "net usershare info" but it failed: 'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare directory /var/lib/samba/usershares. Error No such file or directory Please ask your system administrator to enable user sharing." This is in relation to my applets having to be reloaded after every boot. Just wondering how I would enable user sharing, and how it affects my applets ??

  • Why my sub-domain redirect returns a blank page?

    I have the domain http://dropbox.tombrito.com/ (on GoDaddy) forwarding with masking to www.dropbox.com/sh/k6ypvx4y4kf0gu6/rdjxQ1b1OL It was working fine some time ago, but now the result is a blank page (although the Dropbox's favicon appears correctly in the browser's tab title).   • Uninstall broken package

    Times ago I have installed Linux mint stuff on my Ubuntu 11.10 (now 12.04). I accidentally removed some files manually ( they were under /usr/share.). Now it is impossible to remove the related deb packages, and synaptic report various errors. How can remove them bypassing errors? It is possible view the installed files in synaptic and remove them manually, but is tedious...also remain the problem to remove the files entry from the apt database. Any suggestion?

  • I could not solve the command solutions for /dev/mapper/cryptswap1 ,what do I do?

    I checked this question, I got the same message including the mounting thing and press S or M, I did what the guys suggested doing in the terminal (including this) but in 2 of the commands I was denied the entry and another was not found-something like that, so how can i solve this? do you know other commands I should use, or should I reinstall Ubuntu without my assigning the 2.x MB of the tiny partition (/dev/sda5), during installation, to swap as I did? (I deleted windows 7 to install and use Ubuntu only.)

    How to handle multiple statuses for a table entry, for example an item table may have an active, inactive, fast moving, and/or batch statuses. And I wanted to handle them in single column with VARCHAR type. Also I might set each of those attributes as a boolean with different columns. But I am not sure what consequences this might lead to.     I have telecom applications that I want to run on a server(I have chosen HP server), there are so many types of hp servers i.e DL380 (g3,g4 ....), blade , entry level server. I've surfed the web and nothing is helping me choose one that suites me, what I have is telecom application made in PHP and C.   • Differences between a retail and wholesale website, and how difficult would it be to integrate them? [closed]

    I was told to come here for some guidance, I know that my questions can be quite broad, but I just really want some kind of direction to go towards (links, articles, etc). So here it goes: For the past month I have been planning and started implementing a wholesale website, but plans got changed on me and I need to allow both retail and wholesale orders which will also depend on whether the account is a regular customer or also has a seller account. There are various types of products and it has been decided that I would use subcategories as tables to organize them and allow various specific item fields. So here are some of my specific questions: How different is the database structure for each item to be available for both wholesale and retail? Will it just be adding a quantity column and have two different pricing, or much more complicated? I am unaware if there's any price tables but would that be more difficult? They use Quickbooks POS software, how difficult/inefficient will it be to update inventory quantities if they have like 2000-4000 products? And what would be the best ways to extract the information and update the system? I know it export an excel spreadsheet so maybe a suggested php plugin for it? How difficult is this project in your professional opinion, and how big should a team usually be? (At the moment it is just me.) Projected time for planning, implementation, and quality assurance in accordance to team size? I am an entry level developer and I know that I do not have enough knowledge to direct myself on this website...What kind of web developer skills will I need to find to help me? (My company is willing to hire people to get this website done as fast as possible.) Also, what would be some great questionnaires to ask the product stakeholder about what he wants from the website? (He has made it clear he is neither computer or internet savvy...) Sorry for the amount of questions, I'm an entry level web developer and do not have a senior to look up to for guidance. I have knowledge in HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, PHP, MySQL, phpMyAdmin. I have never used any frameworks like Zend, Magento, etc, and is doing this all from scratch. So far the website is built in an object oriented way, MVC architecture to the best of my abilities, but I have many doubts because I would really want to have this done right.   • Installing messaging software displays error 1324 invalid character

    Trying to install Reuters Messaging software onto a windows 7 pc we receive the error message Error 1324: The folder path 'My Documents' contains an invalid character We've tried installing the application using the local admin account and the user account which is an AD account (roaming?). This user account has administrative rights (i.e. should be allowed to install applications). The users 'My Documents' folder is located on a network drive, where only the user has access. We've tried experimenting with the HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer\ User Shell Folders registry entries and setting them to a local position (i.e. C:\Users\Username\Documents) but this didn't resolve the error. We've also tried the following which was taken from a website I can't remember the name of: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem Select the NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation entry and change the value to 0 Select the Win31FileSystem entry and change the value to 0 which didn't resolve the issue. Edit: This was also an issue when attempting to install the citrix native client necessary to run citrix application (*.ica extension). This made the same error box appear.

  • Spreadsheet RDBMS

    I'm looking for a software (or set of software) that will let me combine spreadsheet and database workflows. Data entry in spreadsheet to enable simple entry from clipboard, analysis based on joins, unions and aggregates and pivot/data pilot summaries. So far I've only found either spreadsheets OR db applications but no good combination. OO base with calc for tables doesn't support aggregates f.ex. Google Spreadsheet + Visualizaion API doesn't support unions or joins, zoho db doesn't let me paste from clipboard. Any hints on software that could be used? Basically I'm trying to do some analysis of my personal bank transactions. Problem 1, ETL. The data has to be moved from my bank to a database. My current solution is to manually copy and paste the data into one spread sheet per account from my internet bank. Pains: Not very scriptable. Lots of scrolling to reach the point to paste. Have to apply sorting and formatting to the pasted data each time. Problem 2, analysis. I then want to aggregate the different accounts in one sweep to track transfers per type of transfer over all accounts. The actual aggregation is still unsolved because I can't find a UNION equivalent in the spreadsheets I've tried.

  • Wildcard DNS, VirtualHosts on apache2, 404 for unused subdomains

    On an Apache2 server linked to by a DNS that includes a wildcard entry, e.g. *.example.com, subdomains that are not defined as ServerNames in any VirtualHosts point to the first defined VirtualHost, in my example this is 000-default. My Question:How would one get unused subdomains (subdomains not used in any virtualhosts) to return a 404 error to the requesting client? This must preferably show in server logs as a 404 as well. I have looked into the following possibilities: Redirecting any invalid subdomain to the home page or some other page.The problem with this method is, when someone links to your site as this.company.sucks.example.com, the client will see your home page or in my case 000-default if I do not redirect. Thanks, to Mike for pointing this out. (regex for "suck", etc definately not an option) Let the default VirtualHost point to a non-existent directory.Apache does not like this one bit, warning with every reload. Beyond the warning, everything seems fine. This seems like a hack. Does this seem like a problem (however small) to anyone? Point the default VirtualHost to a folder where the index.php is forbidden, thus creating a 403 status code.This is confusing and makes things like the following overly complicated: Say, for example, you use a subdomain per user (a big reason to use wildcard DNS, apparently), and users have the ability to view each others profiles at username.example.com. This solution is confusing to the user and completely not what I want to do. My ideal sollution will let the user know there is nothing to view at the url he entered. Preferably with a 404 and an error log entry for the address entered (not some other address). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I'm setting up a puppetmaster (2.7.6) in ec2 via gems (on rhel6) and I'm running into problems with the cert names and getting the master able to talk to itself. my puppet.conf looks like this: [main] logdir = /var/log/puppet rundir = /var/run/puppet vardir = /var/lib/puppet ssldir = $vardir/ssl pluginsync = true environment = production report = true certname = master When I start the puppetmaster process the ssl directory looks like: ssl/private_keys/master.pem ssl/crl.pem ssl/public_keys/master.pem ssl/ca/ca_crl.pem ssl/ca/signed/master.pem ssl/ca/ca_crt.pem ssl/ca/ca_pub.pem ssl/ca/ca_key.pem ssl/certs/ca.pem ssl/certs/master.pem I have an /etc/hosts entry on the box to point the 'puppet' hostname to localhost so that I don't have to change the 'server' option. I've tried a couple of other variations with using the ec2 private hostname and gotten mixed results. I'd like to avoid setting server = 'x' and use dns/hosts to control what 'puppet' resolves to in order to decide which server (plays easier with availability zones, etc)

  • Outlook 2007 OST File Indexing and OneNote 2007 Indexing are Broken

    I'm running Outlook 2007 under Windows 7 Home Premium RTM. My OST file was previously being properly indexed but eventually searches significantly slowed down so I suspected a problem. Searching and indexing appears broken in OneNote 2007 as well as search time is now significantly longer. I brought up the Outlook 2007 Search Options dialog and noticed that my mailbox (running from an Exchange 2007 server) wasn't listed in the "Index messages in these data files:" list box. Next I ran the Windows "Find and fix problem with windows search" wizard which reported no errors. Then I brought up the Windows Indexing Options dialog which shows Outlook listed (as shown here): then clicked Advanced and Rebuilt the index. No dice - the listbox in the Outlook 2007 dialog still didn't show my mailbox. When I clicked the Modify button in the Indexing Options dialog I see the following: When I hover over the "oneindex://..." entry, the alt text indicates "This location is currently unavailable". When I delete it and rebuild the index, this entry returns. UPDATE: Comparison of the last screenshot above with a working PC shows that on the broken PC, the lower half of the dialog lists Outlook but neither Outlook or OneNote are showing in the upper half. The working PC has Outlook and OneNote in both parts of the dialog.
