• Creating Discoverable Network Resources (.NET)

  Is it possible to create a discoverable network resource in .NET? What I would like to acheive is a means of auto discovery for applications that run on a private network. The architecture will be similar to a client / server application, however the server could be any computer on the network. While the client would not be aware of the specific IP address that would be the server. I assume I would need some form of multicast, however not having used multicasting before I don't even know where to start. I guess when the client starts up it would broadcast an "is anyone there" message. Then each server could respond with details of their IP for future communication. Many Thanks, Ady

• Text wrap in a <canvas> element

  I am trying to add text on an image using the <canvas> element. First the image is drawn and on the image the text is drawn. So far so good. But where I am facing a problem is that if the text is too long, it gets cut off in the start and end by the canvas. I don't plan to resize the canvas, but I was wondering how to wrap the long text into multiple lines so that all of it gets displayed. Can anyone point me at the right direction?

• Getting a JFrame's actual current location

  Hello community, I am trying to create a (child) JFrame which slides out from underneath one side of a second (parent) JFrame. The goal is to then have the child follow the parent around when it is moved, and respond to resizing events. This is somewhat related to this question. I have tried using a ComponentListener, but with this method the child only moves once the parent has come to a stop, whereas I would like the child to move as the parent is dragged around the screen. Another option I attempted was to start a new refresher thread that continually updated the child's location using getLocation() or getLocationOnScreen(), but the lag was the same as with ComponentListener. Is there a way to get the true actual location of a JFrame even in the midst of a drag? or if not, is there a way to get the effect of a sheet sliding out from underneath and following the Frame around?

I was able to do the same using swing contains several feature like drag and drop, progress bar, remove file / files , modify, limit file size, verify file information, timer, verify at run time ..and its a very powerful tool which uploads images. I would like to do the same in web based app, like user selects 200 images process it and click upload and it should start uploading, like to know any feasible frameworks or any API's which help me do this faster and achieve the same kind of functionality. • VMWare Tools StartUp Script

  I am on the latest version of VMWare Workstation. In my VMWareTools I have configrued an individual script file (start.bat) to be started when the (guest) OS is booted. Unfortuantely it does not run when starting the guest system as intended. When pressing "run now" it works Running the script from CMD works as well I have changed the service (VMWareTools service) to run under different users - no success All Users (of the service) have had Administrator privileges I have no idea what is going wrong. Maybe someone is having an idea ....

• Can you control pinterest's "find image" results?

  Rather than add Pin It buttons through our site, I would like to simply control what images show up in Pinterest's "Find Image" results if a user decides to pin one of our URLs. As of now, "Find Images" allows the user to scroll through the images it finds on the page so they can select which image to pin. The "found" images start with the first jpg in the html file, I'm assuming (could that be a bad assumption??). On our site, this forces a user to scroll through about 15 navigation and promotion images before arriving at the featured product image. Is there any way to specify this image to show first in those results? Maybe through a meta tag, or by adding a class or id to the element? Without a public Pinterest API, this seems like just guesswork, but I wanted to see if anyone else has run into this, or solved this. Thanks.

• long running process in asp.net C#

  Hello All, I have a web application that has a long running (resource intensive) process in the code behind and the end output is a pdf file (images to pdf conversion tool) It runs fine..and since I am on a dedicated server, it is not at all a problem with respect to resources right now. However, I wonder that the system would reach its resource limits if, there are more than 20 users processing at a time. I have seen services online where the user enters their email and the processes are, I suppose, queued in the background and the results emailed with the 1st in 1st out method. Can someone please give me a start on how to implement this kind of logic in asp.net applications using C#? Thanks a lot in advance, Prasad.

• Using CreateFileMapping between two programs - C

  Hello, I have two window form applications written in C, one holds a struct consisting of two integers, another will receive it using the CreateFileMapping. Although not directly related I want to have three events in place so each of the processes can "speak" to each other, one saying that the first program has something to pass to the second, one saying the first one has closed and another saying the second one has closed. What would be the best way about doing this exactly? I've looked at the MSDN entry for the CreateFileMapping operation but I'm still not sure as to how it should be done. I didn't want to start implementing it without having some sort of clear idea as to what I need to do. Thanks for your time.

To capture the current time, this base class needs overriden methods as "extension points": start of the deserialization process after the deserialization (can be implemented by overriding the Loaded procedure) the moment just before the execution of the OnFormCreate event So the log for TMyForm.Create(nil) could look like: - 00.000 instance created - 00.010 before deserialization - 01.823 after deserialization - 02.340 before OnFormCreate Which TObject (or TComponent) methods are best suited? Characterising is that I sometimes need to store the complete factorisation which can exceed about 20 GB of memory. The factorisation happens inside a library that I call. Furthermore, this matrix and the resulting factorisation changes quite frequently and as such the memory requirements as well. I am not the only person to use this compute-node.   After coming across the code golf trivia around the site it is obvious people try to find ways to write code and algorithms as short as the possibly can in terms of characters, lines and total size, even if that means writing something like: n=input() while n>1:n=(n/2,n*3+1)[n%2];print n So as a beginner I start to wonder whether size actually matters :D. It is obviously a very subjective question highly dependent on the actual code being used, but what is the rule of thumb in the real world. In the case that size wont matter, how come then we don't focus more on performance rather than size?

  I'm in the process of choosing a framework for my flex development, and one of the questions that was asked about a framework was "is this a framework or a micro-architecture"? Can someone clarify what's the difference? What exactly is a framework, and when can we start calling what we have a framework? I work with FlexBuilder3 (now called FlashBuilder4) and have a lot of standard things that I do for almost all projects, and components that I created for easy re-use. Some are very very small, but the benefit of a 1-liner has been immense for me instead of repeating the code over and over. So in the framework/micro-architecture scheme, can I say that these are my internal in-house framework or are they part of a micro-architecture? Trying to understand this topic better.

• How do I reset a countdown timer when it reaches 0? (Xcode 4)

  first question and I have researched the heck out of this and can't seem to find any answers. I would like to implement a countdown timer in my app that starts at 30 seconds and resets when it hits 0. It will count back by 1 second intervals. I have played around with the resources that Apple provides and I can't seem to implement the NStimer to do as I just explained. Are there any suggestions on how I could code this? I would eventually like to link this to a button that will start the timer when it is pressed. I appreciate any advice on this topic!

• Should I design the application or model (database) first?

  I am getting ready to start building a new web project in my spare time to bring to fruition an idea that has been bouncing around my head for a while. I have never gotten down whether I am better off first building the model and then the consuming application or the other way around. What are the best practices? What would you build first and why? I imagine that in general the application should generally drive the model, however the application like many websites really doesn't do much without the model. For some reason I find it easier at times to think in terms of the model since the application is really just actions on the model. Is this a poor way of thinking about things? What advantages/disadvantages does each option have?

  Could not load file or assembly 'Payflow_dotNET_2.0' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040) I tried to reference the payflow SDK and got this error.But I am no longer trying to reference it. I have removed all references to this dll. and Now I am just trying to get the project to start in VS but I still get this error. I am not trying to add the dll anymore.If i have removed the reference to this, why am I still getting this error? • Strategy for developing a multi function asp.net web application

  I'm about to start a new project and want some advice on how to implement. I need a web application which contains a booking module for reserving timeslots, and a time management module which will enable employees to clock in / clock out. If I am writing an update to the time managment module, I don't want to disrupt the booking engine availability by releasing a new solution containing both modules. to make things more difficult, there is some shared functionality like common users, roles and security. Here's a suggestion I've gotten, which sounds a bit cruddy, but may be functional. Write a 'container' web application which consists of basically a frame, and authentication / security features. This then has links which, will load the 2 independantly built and released web applications into the frame. I can see that say, if I wanted to update the time management module, I would only need to build and release this separately, and the rest of the solution would be 'untouched' Any better alternatives?

  Hello! I have some problem with my created nsis setup. I need to check if the product is already installed and then get the path to the already installed product. This is because I want to build a "Feature-Setup" that installs some other components into the previous installed folder. Does anyone know how to build this installer? It will be brilliant if the feature setup will start the installation and check the path of the installed product.
