• Release Notes for 5/18/2012

  Here are the notes for this week’s release: Pull Requests We’ve added the ability to see the snippets of code where a user commented inline in the discussion of pull requests. You can also add another line comment directly from the discussion area, rather than navigating to the code diff viewer. Note that there’s currently a known issue where the line associated with the comment isn’t being properly differentiated for existing pull requests (the line in the middle of each diff preview should be bolded). Apologies for the inconvenience! As part of this work, we also took some time to clean up our diff viewer UI to remove the dots and introduce a new color scheme where green is used for added lines. Bug Fixes Fixed an issue affecting the ability to assign pull requests. Fixed an issue where managing various team resources for a project was not working in Chrome or Firefox. Fixed an issue where a project’s RSS subscribe dialog popped up in the wrong place. Fixed an issue where editing wiki anchor links would insert extra characters, resulting in broken links. Fixed an issue where project logos did not display correctly when browsing the site with https in Chrome or Firefox. Fixed an issue where users could encounter errors when deleting remote Git branches. Fixed an issue affecting the ability of fork collaborators to push changes to the fork. Fixed an issue where the advanced work item filters would not persist when navigating through result pages. Fixed an issue where the issue tracker notifications link was not clickable in Chrome. Fixed an issue where pull request comments with line breaks would not be formatted properly when viewing the pull request. Other We upgraded our Git servers to version 1.7.10.1. • Can't access sub domain from my network [closed]

  I am trying to access http://www.abc.xyz.com from my network, but not able to do so. However, http://www.xyz.com is opening fine in my browser. Asked a friend to open abc.xyz.com from his machine(in a different network), its opening fine. Checked my firewall settings as well. There's no such rule to deny the specific site or something that could be denying access to the sub domain. Kindly advise, how I can troubleshoot my problem.

• Iis multiple domain binding

  I've a server with vshpere running and one vm with Windows 2008 r2. I'm hosting a website on this vm. But I want to try to add another domain. Now I have 3 ip-adresses. 1 for vspehere. 1 for vm. 1 for 2nd domain. When I add a new site and edit the bindings to the last ip-adress (2nd domain) it doesn't work. I've added also a new network adapter on vsphere and edited in the windows network adapter. Could anyone help me out with this. Sorry for my bad english I hope you will understand it.

• Network location is not on the Domain

  I have a computer joined to the domain, but it doesn't view the network "location" as being part of the domain. I have tried removing and rejoining the domain and this doesn't help: Other computers in the same network don't have this problem. I have also tried several different icons, including both the train and the airplane which doesn't seem to make a difference. At least using nslookup, the server seems to have connectivity with the DCs in the same site. There also seem to be some errors that suggest a NULL domain: Computer: OR-WEB05.ds.stackexchange.com Description: NtpClient was unable to set a domain peer to use as a time source because of failure in establishing a trust relationship between this computer and the '' domain in order to securely synchronize time. NtpClient will try again in 3473457 minutes and double the reattempt interval thereafter. The error was: The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed. (0x800706FD)

• Best cloud based IT Systems management services out there?

  Our startup organisation is growing fast in 2 different office locations. That brings new challenges and headaches. Our entire company is cloud based, and I am looking for a good product to manage our remote systems. Currently we do not have on-site AD servers, we are using the Windows Azure AD services, so cannot rely on group policies at this stage. I would like to be able to achieve the following: (they are all laptops) Remote Desktop Support Patch management Lock down software on machines (restrict them) Monitor and manage systems Other benefits would be good, but if I can achieve the ones listed above, it will go a long way. We have a combination of Windows 7 pro & Windows 8 & 8.1 machines. I am currently using Windows Intune, but it is really limited. Really just a glorified patch enforcer. • Hide a 2nd Monitor from a Programs Print Screen

  I run 2 monitors on a PC that also runs a program for the Freelancing site Elance.com. The program they provide, takes screenshots and uploads them to my account for a client to see at different intervals. My goal is to make the screenshot that the program takes and uploads, to somehow only take a shot of my "Main" or "Defualt" monitor and ignore my 2nd monitor. The main reason is my 2nd monitor generally has private data that I do not displayed to the world on a website. Does anyone know if there is any kind of program or trick I can use that will make it appear that I have 1 monitor when a Screenshot is taken? I am not sure how the program does it and how that works as I am a web developer and not a C++ or any kind of low level programmer. If the Elance program simply runs the same function that is called when a PrintScreen key is pressed on a keyboard, then I am thinking it might be possible to maybe trick that into only the default desktop? Any ideas or help would be appreciated, thank you

• What is this PHP process? It is crippling my server

  This process has been using 65% of my site CPU and has lasted for about 10 minutes now (aren't processes only supposed to go for a couple seconds?) It is obviously something with mysql. This makes sense because I have a lot of queries going, but something still seems a bit odd... This could have something to do with my bad PDO connection that I mentioned in the previous question. Perhaps I am opening too many connections or something like that? Here is the stats on it: Owner: mysql Priority: 0 CPU %: 61.1 Memory %: 0.4 Command:/usr/sbin/mysqld --basedir=/usr --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --plugin-dir=/usr/lib64/mysql/plugin --user=mysql --log-error=/var/lib/mysql/cvps54834319.myhost.com.err --pid-file=/var/lib/mysql/cvps54834319.myhost.com.pid Thanks for any help on this. I have over 10GHZ on my server so this is very concerning to me.

• Server Setups for Agencies [closed]

  We are considering consolidating our server administration by cutting down on the number of systems we currently use to manage all our websites(~65 websites). Currently we have a testing server and 3 production servers. (2 - cherokee(linode), 1 - apache (mt)) We don't have a dedicated server admin, so I am stuck with managing all these servers, and as a developer, I don't want to deal with all the server hassle. So my main goal is to cut down on the time spent messing with the servers. We have looked at Pagoda Box and AppFog as possibilities. I am not sure if Pagoda Box would be cost effective. With 65+ websites we may end up paying anywhere from 0 to $50+ per website per month. Right now we page about $250 per month for the 4 VPS servers mentioned above. We already use Capistrano for deployment. I have the opportunity to completely overhaul the entire setup and I would like some feedback on where you found your information for large scale server management or how you currently do it. Articles are welcome. In summary: What is new (past 2 years) in simple server management arena? If you work at an agency or have had agency experience, how do/did you manage your sites? a. What is the level of effort for SSL, new site setup, database management, and extension management. b. How did you handle datacenter outages. Anyone with Pagoda Box experience, do you like it and did you have problems with Wordpress, Cakephp, Drupal, Expression Engine or Magento? a. Is it expensive for you? b. How has server uptime been? • How do you limit the bandwidth for a file copy?

  I've got an old windows 2000 box in a remote location with a T1 connection and a vpn to my location. I normally use smb mounts to transfer files but now it's time to decommission the server and copy it's backups to my location. I have about 40 gigabytes (compressed) to copy. I'm prepared for it to take a long time, but I have a few caveats. I need to limit the bandwidth so terminal service connections to the site are not affected I want to be able to resume a partial transfer There are a few small files and several large files (10-20 gigabytes). I'm familiar with rsync on *nix platforms but have had bad luck with windows and I don't know that it will really keep partially transfered files. What do you use?

• Programmatically closing a dialog box - win32 [migrated]

  I'm working on an application to detect a pop-up dialog and then automatically dismiss it. I'm writing this as a C++/Win32 app. The dialog box is generated by IE 7 and I can detect the window, but several methods to get the OK button to "click" have failed. Doing searches for other people's solutions, sending these messages to the button handle seems to have worked in a lot of situations: PostMessage( handle, WM_LBUTTONDOWN, 0, 0 ); PostMessage( handle, WM_LBUTTONUP, 0, 0 ); PostMessage( handle, BM_SETSTATE, 1, 0 ); It has no effect on the button state in my tests though. I can send tab characters to the main window and see that the OK button gets focus, but then sending return characters does nothing. To learn more about this I used Spy++ to get information about the window hierarchy and what messages are delievered when I manually click the OK button. Looking at the message log and reading about WM_MOUSEACTIVATE seamed to offer a solution. The log info shows that 0002166C was the button window. So in my code I tried this: GetClassNameA( handle, str, str_size ); if( strcmp( str, "Internet Explorer_Server" ) != 0 ) return TRUE; // Not the window we're interested in. // Send a message to activate the button window and have it process a mouse click. PostMessage( handle, WM_MOUSEACTIVATE, (WPARAM) dialog_handle, MAKELPARAM( HTCLIENT, WM_LBUTTONDOWN ); Based on the window hierarchy and message log, I think the window with the class name "Internet Explorer_Server" is the button. Maybe I'm wrong, because it does seem like an odd class name for a button... Below is a link to the window hierarchy image, message log when I manually click the OK button. • Asking for brief explanation of reverse proxying and recommended software

  I need to set up a reverse proxy where the backend web server is serving https pages only. I've never set up a reverse proxy and would like a brief overview of how it works. One of my questions is whether the proxy needs to run https also, or does simple http suffice? Second question would be whether to use Apache, varnish, nginx, or squid. This is for an internal site for a small company, so not a lot of traffic expected. Maybe a few dozen users each day.

• Can't delete file from windows 7

  I downloaded a torrent file from internet. The problem is it's size is showing 0 bytes. I tried to scan it with antivirus, upload it to virus total, delete it but it's showing the file is not found. I tried to delete it in safe mode also but no success. Can anybody explain me, what can be reason for this and what is the way to delete this file? Thanks in advance. My operating system is windows 7. EDIT : the name of the file is "[Torrentreactor.to] - Site Translator 4.06.torrent."

  This question is derived from an interview question that I got for a job I was declined. I have asked for code review for my solution at the dedicated Stack Exchange site. But I hope this question is sufficiently rephrased and asked with a different motivation not to be a duplicate of the other question. Consider the following scenario: You should store player scores in the server back end of a game. The server is written in Java. Every score should be registered, that is, one player may have any number of scores for any number of levels. A high score list should be produced with the fifteen top scores for a given level, but only one score per user (to the effect that even if player X has the two highest scores for level Y, only the first position is counted and player Z has the second place). No information should be persisted and only Java 1.7+ standard libraries should be used. No third party libraries or frameworks are acceptable. With the number of players as the primary factor, what would be the best data structure in terms of scalability and concurrency? How would you access the structure to register a single score given a level and a player id? How would you access the structure to compile the high score list?

• Using Subdomains for Newly Regional Company

  The company I work for is expanding their business to new territories. I've got a lot of stabilization to do in the region/state where we're one of the most well known companies of our kind. Currently, we have 3 distinct product lines which are currently distinguished by 3 separate URLS. This is affecting the user flow of our site, so we'd like to clean it up before launching our products into the various regions. The business has decided to grow into 5 new states (one state consisting of one county only) — none of which will feature all 3 products. Our homebase state is the only one that will have all 3 products this year. My initial thought was to use subdomains to separate out the regions, that way we could use a canonical tag to stabilize the root domain (which would feature home state content, and support content for all regions), and remove us from potential duplicate content penalization. Our product content will be nearly identical across the regions for the first year. I second guessed myself by thinking that it was perhaps better to use a "[product].root/region" URL instead. And I'm currently stuck by wondering if it was not better to build out subdomains for products and regions...using one modifier or the other as a funnel/branding page into the other. For instance, user lands on "region.root.com" and sees exactly what products we offer in that region. Basically, a tailored landing page. Meanwhile the bulk of the product content would actually live under "product.root.com/region/page". My head is spinning. And while searching for similar questions I also bumped into reference of another tag meant to be used in some similar cases to mine. I feel like there's a lot of risks involved in this subdomain strategy, but I also can't help but see the benefits in the user flow.

• How to specify the order of startup scripts (CLI)?

  Startup really confuses me. It seems various methods for starting things happen in different locations all over the place. But is there a way to define the order they are loaded? Specifically... I have an issue where Plex Media Server (PMS) can't be discovered by clients if the server's VPN connection is established prior PMS starting. It was driving me nuts, but I discovered that I could solve the problem by shutting down PMS, shutting down the VPN, turning on PMS and then turning on VPN. I'm not exactly sure how PMS auto-loads itself at startup, but the VPN is something I defined by editing: /etc/network/if-up.d/slickvpn with the following: #! /bin/bash REQUIRED_CONNECTION_NAME="Wired connection 1" VPN_CONNECTION_NAME="myvpn" activ_con=$(nmcli con status | grep "${REQUIRED_CONNECTION_NAME}") activ_vpn=$(nmcli con status | grep "${VPN_CONNECTION_NAME}") if [ "${activ_con}" -a ! "${activ_vpn}" ]; then nmcli con up id "${VPN_CONNECTION_NAME}" fi That's a script I found somewhere (I think on this site) when looking for help autoconnecting a VPN. So I guess /etc/network/if-up.d/ scripts are initiated prior to the PMS service. How can I flip that? Or other solution?

• Utilising a Magento server cluster to drive hot reindexing

  We've asked a similar question in the past, basically we have a very large Magento store with 500000 products which are currently reindexed once a day, during the night. We'd like to speed this process up significantly, we're at about 4-5 hours now. The solution was suggested for us to do something like this on a server cluster and replicate the database changes after they've been done on a machine that isn't being bothered with serving customers. But what is the mechanism for that? How do we replicate those changes across to the live site from the server cluster? Can someone point me in the right direction here?

• Comparing outgoing mail options, self hosted VS google apps in my situation

  I am setting up a small site that has the need to be able to programmatically send mail from time to time. Password resets and things like that. I'm already using google apps to handle my domains email, so now i'm left with the decision between setting up basic SMTP services on my server to send "password reset mails and things like that" OR instead to have the software use google apps to send mail. I like the google apps option as it's less stuff to worry about and seems to fit my needs, i'm trying to figure out what the downsides would be? Thanks for any thoughts

• Mac terminal: Resource temporarily unavailable

  I'm getting an error message in the Mac Terminal when I try to run several different processes. I did some googling and looking on this site, and found out that it might be related to having too many processes running at one time. However, I'm getting these error messages when I only have a few windows open (much fewer than I was accustomed to having). Looking in activity Monitor, my %User number is at around 25%, and the %System number is around 15%. In the past, I have had both much much higher (until the people at the Apple store told me to keep an eye on it). • MS Word Mac unable to use form in document

  I have a Word document given to me by a client. It is an employment application with form fields that the client wants to be downloadable from her web site. I'm opening it in Word 2008 for Mac (12.2.4). When I try to fill out the form, Word will not allow me to fill out the fields, it just treats them as objects that can be replaced or moved. It also will not allow me to turn off Track Changes, and it will not allow me to change the locked status of the form (the buttons are grayed out). Any idea what's going on here?

• How do I connect my Samsung 6 Series TV to network through a proxy?

  I have a Samsung 6 series LCD TV which can connect to internet by LAN. When I connect my TV to my Windows 7 laptop which get its internet from AS share it, it can connect to the Internet. My TV can connect to YouTube, but in my country this site is filtered. I want to use an antifilter(proxy) program to bypass the filtering. The problem is the TV does not recognize the proxy port or program. How can I configure the TV or the network to use the proxy?

• Firefox unable to load SSL Certificate Chain, while Chrome, IE do

  I created a certificate for our IIS 6 by sending a request (created with openssl) to our organization's CA. I already had trouble to integrate the private key into that certificate, that has been solved, see SO question IIS 6.0 now uses the certificate (with TSL v1 and SSL v3), that is the 4th in cert hierarchy. Now, if I access the intranet site, chrome accepts the certificate, so does IE, but Firefox complains about an insecure connection and wants me to add an exceptional rule. If I look into the certificate, how FF presents it to me, I cannot see any of the three issuers. How can this be? If I connect via openssl s_client -showcerts -connect... I only see my own certificate too, which is said to be not verified. I am quite confused now. Where's the mistake and how can I make FF accept certificate without forcing our users to add that exceptionrule? Maybe do I have to add all the three issuer certificates into cert store of the win2003 server that hosts IIS 6.0 ??
