  Backup (Deja Dup) failed to do an initial backup to my Amazon S3, and despite my best Googling efforts, I could not find a solution : ( Here's the error message: BackendException: Error uploading s3+http://deja-dup-auto-akiaiksyiqi3buaaz26a/My-Archive/duplicity-full.20130805T143807Z.vol1.difftar.gpg I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on a System76.   The following code attempts to access and print the user session ID from ADF Faces, using the session cookie that is automatically set by the server and the Http Session object itself. Dependent on the use case the session Id is looked up for, the difference may not be important. Another difference however, is of importance. The cookie reading only works if the session Id is added as a cookie to the request, which is configurable for applications in the weblogic-application.xml file. If cookies are disabled, then the server adds the session ID to the request URL (actually it appends it to the end of the URI, so right after the view Id reference). In this case however no cookie is set so that the lookup returns empty. In both cases however, the getId variant works.

  Wow, creating IE Accelerators is superbly easy. If you want to learn how to create one, go here (some MSDN blog) and the MSDN documentation (clearly written). I was fed up of dictionary.com bringing all those popups and the stupid definitions of Google's dictionary. So I decided to scratch my own itch. I randomly stumbled on the site called Wordnik and it provides with all examples plus definitions plus lots more for words and its popup-free (as far as I know). So I decided to write and accelerator. • Locally redirect Domain1.com to Domain2.com/subdir on one computer

  I am running a FreeBSD server and I want to redirect a specific website domain to another domain including subdirectory. I want to bypass that domain to alter the XML results it returns. I tried the hosts file solution, but that way I can only redirect to an IP address without subdir. So that's no solution. Is there another way to solve this? Installing something on the server if needed is not a problem. Unless it's a heavy program.

Oracle just released a Security Alert to announce the availability of fixes for two vulnerabilities (CVE-2010-0886 and CVE-2010-0887) affecting Oracle Java SE and Oracle Java For Business. Both vulnerabilities only affect Java when running in a 32-bit web browser. These vulnerabilities are not present in Java running on servers or standalone Java desktop applications and do not impact any Oracle server based software. The first vulnerability (CVE-2010-0886) affects the Java Deployment Toolkit (version 6 update 10 through 19) on Windows only. The second vulnerability (CVE-2010-0887) affects the Java Plug-in (version 6 update 18 and 19) on Windows, Solaris and Linux. Both vulnerabilities may allow an attacker to run commands on the user's system with the privileges of the user, whose system may have become compromised by visiting a malicious web site. Oracle rated the severity of both vulnerabilities with a CVSS Base Score of 10.0 because many Windows users grant themselves administrative privileges.   I have 2 directories each with a .htaccess file: html/.htaccess - There is a rewrite in this file to send almost everything to url.php RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(exported/?|\.(php|gif|jpe?g|png|css|js|pdf|doc|xml|ico))$ RewriteRule (.*)$ /url.php [L] and html/exported/.htaccess AuthType Basic AuthName "exported" AuthUserFile "/home/siteuser/.htpasswd" require valid-user If I remove html/exported/.htaccess the rewriting works fine and the exported directory can be access. If I remove html/.htaccess the authentication works fine. However when I have both .htaccess files exported/ is being rewritten to /url.php. Any ideas how I can prevent it?

• pnp4nagios does not generate perfdata

  I am running nagios2, pnp4nagios-0.6.16 and php 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.19. In my setup, pnp4nagios is correctly generating perfdata, which can be seen via the web interface in graphical form for lots of services. The perfdata directory contains entries of the kind: /usr/local/pnp4nagios/var/perfdata/zeus/Disk_Space_Home.rrd /usr/local/pnp4nagios/var/perfdata/zeus/Disk_Space_Home.xml I have activated performance data for a new nagios service: define serviceextinfo { host_name zeus service_description 450average action_url /pnp4nagios/index.php?host=$HOSTNAME$&srv=$SERVICEDESC$ } This service is generating monitoring data in the format: status_info|perf_data as required for performance gathering. But somehow the performance data related to this service is not being collected by pnp4nagios (no related entries in /usr/local/pnp4nagios/var/perfdata) Are there any pnp4nagios scripts or settings which I could use to debug this?

• The Exceptional EXCEPT clause

  Ok, I exaggerate, but it can be useful… I came across some ‘poorly-written’ stored procedures on a SQL server recently, that were using sp_xml_preparedocument. Unfortunately these procs were  not properly removing the memory allocated to XML structures – ie they were not subsequently calling sp_xml_removedocument… I needed a quick way of identifying on the server how many stored procedures this affected.. Here’s what I used.. EXEC sp_msforeachdb 'USE ? SELECT DB_NAME(),OBJECT_NAME(s1.id) FROM syscomments s1 WHERE [text] LIKE ''%sp_xml_preparedocument%'' EXCEPT SELECT DB_NAME(),OBJECT_NAME(s2.id) FROM syscomments s2 WHERE [text] LIKE ''%sp_xml_removedocument%'' ‘ There’s three nice features about the code above… 1. It uses sp_msforeachdb. There’s a nice blog on this statement here 2. It uses the EXCEPT clause.  So in the above query I get all the procedures which include the sp_xml_preparedocument string, but by using the EXCEPT clause I remove all the procedures which contain sp_xml_removedocument.  Read more about EXCEPT here 3. • Strange robots.txt - how and why did it get there?

  I recently created a very simple, pure HTML website which I have hosted with "hostmonster". Hostmonster had very good reviews on some comparison website and in general so far they appear to be perfectly good in every way... At least I thought so until just now... I have been making lots of edits to my site on an almost daily basis. My site now appears on the first page (7th on the list) for my most important keyphrase when doing a google search. But I did notice some problem with the snippet chosen by google. I asked a question on this site about snippets and got some great answers. I then made some modifications to my meta data and within 48hrs the google snippet for my search was perfect. The odd thing though was that looking at the "cached" version google had, it appeared that the cache was still very odl- like three weeks previous. This seemed very odd - how could it be that the google robots had read my new metadata without updating the cache? This puzzled me greatly. Just now it occurred to me that maybe I had some goofey setting in my robots.txt file. I didn't actually remember even making one - but I thought I'd have a look just in case. Much to my horror, I saw that there was a robots.txt and it contained the disturbing text below: sitemap: http://cdn.attracta.com/sitemap/728687.xml.gz Intuitively this looks like some kind of junk, spam trick, and I had indeed been getting some spam from "attracta". So my questions are: 1. Should I simply delete this robots.txt? 2. Was the file there all along - placed there because of some commercial tie-in between attracta and hostmonster. 3. Does the attracta robots file explain the lack of re-caching?

  I'd recently upgraded my Ubuntu 11.10 x64 server to 12.04. In this process Squid was updated from 2.7 to 3.1. Squid 3.1 has many different options witch broke my setup. So I completely removed squid 2.7 and 3.1 and started from scratch. Everything is now working as before except for 1 thing: caching of .swf files with ?/variables. Squid 3 sees a ? as dynamic content and does not cache it. • SOASuite 11.1.1.4 : Error Logging into BPM11g Composer?

  Hey all, I’ve just installed SOA Suite 11.1.1.4 and noticed a few funnies which people might hit, thankfully each of them have an easy solution.   1. Some applications are installed but dont appear to work? If when you install SOASuite you may notice that the following applications dont appear to work, however they do appear as deployments in Weblogic Server Console e.g.  SOA Composer (composer), FMW Welcome Page Application (11.1.0.0.0) and some of the adaptors. If they appear in the deployments list state as “installed” and not Active, then its likely that they haven't been targeted to a specific server.   The solution is to target the application the desired managed server , e.g. AdminServer in a development environment. This is done by selecting the application, tab “Targets”, select all components, Button[change Targets] and select the appropriate server. This change can be done without restarting the Weblogic Server 2. You might find that when you try to log into the BPM Composer at http://machine:7001/bpm/composer , the login screen will appear but you cant log in. The error log might mention the following   The solution to this is two fold, a) When creating the domain, avoid using 127.0.0.1 as the Listener address, or “Any Addresses”, if this is a development machine create an alias in your /etc/hosts file and then use this alias in the domain creation wizard. e.g.   my host file contains an entry     mypc     127.0.0.1   And in the Fusion middleware Configuration wizard   Twill then work!   if it still doesnt you can try setting the ServerURL attribute to http://mypc in the SoaInfraMBean instead of blank. This is accomplished by using Enterprise Manager. Use the System MBean Browser to navigate to Application Defined MBeans->oracle.as.soainfra.config->[ server]->SoaInfraConfig->soa-infra. Then changing the value of 'ServerURL' to http://mypc   Failing that give support a call….

• Setting up Ubuntu Server as a Router with DHCPD and 3 Ethernet devices

  My configuration: Ubuntu 12.04 DHCP3-server eth0, eth1, eth2 Edit: removed br0&br1 eth0 is the external connection eth1 & eth2 are the internal network eth1 and eth2 are supposed to be seperate networks of student/teachers respectivly. What I would like to have is the internet from external device bridged to device 1 and 2, with the DHCP server controlling the two internal devices. Its already working with DHCP, the part I am stuck on is bridging for internet.   I have spent a lot of time trying to get dual monitors to work on Ubuntu 11.10 on my Dell Latitude D630 (nVidia NVS 135m video card). - For starters, the System Displays settings app always only showed one unknown monitor, even though I had the external Acer monitor connected. - So I downloaded and installed the nVidia drivers. According to what I read I would need to only use the nVidia driver app (nVidia X Server Settings), so that's what I've done. (System Displays settings continued to only show a single monitor anyway). - nVidia settings app only showed on monitor until I changed the BIOS setting to use the onboard video for external monitor (not the dock video, which it was set to, even though I don't have a docking station). - The nVidia setting app now recognized both monitors. So, I setup the X Server display config as Separate X screen for both monitors. My laptop screen shows up as AUO 1440x900 and my external monitor as Acer E211H 1920x1080. - Everything seemed like it would work, but the external monitor was just a complete white screen. The external monitor was non-functional, even though sometimes it would show the background image - still nothing would show up over there. - So, I checked the Enable Xinerama box. - Now, after logging out and back in, the wallpaper extends to both screens but I get no taskbar at the bottom or top, no system menus, and I have to press the power button to restart or log off. - After experimenting with all the shells, the only one that shows the menus and taskbars when I log in is Gnome Classic. - This is pretty much the same symptoms as found here: How do I fix 11.10 GUI?. - So, I resign myself to the older shell. - Everything works fine until ... I unplug the external monitor ... this is a laptop after all. - Anyway, after doing some work on the road, I plug back in and I still see both screens and it's functional except, ... - Now, the laptop screen (with the taskbar and menu bar) has 4 black bars at the top that windows cannot cover. The top bar is the menu bar (with Applications, Places, the date and time and the system menu on the right). But the next 3 bars (the same height as the top menu bar) are empty and are just reducing the max size of windows on that screen. - See screenshot here: http://i39.tinypic.com/35d2kh1.png - So ... 1. How do I get rid of those extra 3 black bars? They're taking valuable screen space. 2. (less critical) How do I successfully use both screens in the Ubuntu or Ubuntu 2D shell?

• Thick models Vs. Business Logic, Where do you draw the distinction?

  Today I got into a heated debate with another developer at my organization about where and how to add methods to database mapped classes. We use sqlalchemy, and a major part of the existing code base in our database models is little more than a bag of mapped properties with a class name, a nearly mechanical translation from database tables to python objects. In the argument, my position was that that the primary value of using an ORM was that you can attach low level behaviors and algorithms to the mapped classes. Models are classes first, and secondarily persistent (they could be persistent using xml in a filesystem, you don't need to care). His view was that any behavior at all is "business logic", and necessarily belongs anywhere but in the persistent model, which are to be used for database persistence only. I certainly do think that there is a distinction between what is business logic, and should be separated, since it has some isolation from the lower level of how that gets implemented, and domain logic, which I believe is the abstraction provided by the model classes argued about in the previous paragraph, but I'm having a hard time putting my finger on what that is. I have a better sense of what might be the API (which, in our case, is HTTP "ReSTful"), in that users invoke the API with what they want to do, distinct from what they are allowed to do, and how it gets done. tl;dr: What kinds of things can or should go in a method in a mapped class when using an ORM, and what should be left out, to live in another layer of abstraction?

• How to recover from terminal custom setup

  I installed ubuntu 12.04 and I added "Terminal" to the launcher bar, the default size of the terminal is a bit small, after some googling here is how I made the disaster change: At HUD menu, type "preference" and I see the option of Edit > preference, this is as I expected After I clicked the option, I forget the exact steps, but somehow I came to some configuration panel and there is a checkbox for terminal "custom" and I checked it now an input box is enabled and I type gnome-terminal --geometry 160x50 Now the problem comes, whenever I click the terminal button at the launcher bar, new terminal windows pops up endlessly from everywhere, I cannot do anything any more except logout or shutdown. The weird thing is, after I come back, I cannot get that Edit > preference any more when I type "preference" in HUD, I tried "Edit", "preference". To be clear, I still can use the computer as long as I do not click that terminal button, but I really want to use terminal to run commands. Help is appreciated greatly! Update - OK, figured out. Go to /home/jibin/.gconf/apps/gnome-terminal/profiles/Default and open that xml file, I can see the options I changed at the GUI, remove them and terminal runs good. The preference HUD is back also, it is actually Profile Preference and it is only available when terminal is open. Continue my ubuntu-ing...
