• jQuery: Stopping a periodic ajax call?

  I am writing a small jQuery plugin to update a set of Divs with content obtained using Ajax calls. Initially, let's assume we have 4 divs. I am doing something like this: (function($) { .... .... //main function $.fn.jDIV = { init: function() { ... ... for(var i = 0; i < numDivs; i++) { this.query(i); } this.handlers(); }, query: function(divNum) { //Makes the relevant ajax call }, handlers: function() { for(var i = 0; i < numDivs; i++) { setInterval("$.fn.jDIV.query(" + i + ")", 5000); } } }; })(jQuery); I would like to be able to enable and disable a particular ajax query. I was thinking of adding a "start" and "stop" instead of the "handlers" function and subsequently storing the setInterval handler like this: start: function(divNum) { divs[divNum] = setInterval("$.fn.jDIV.query(" + i + ")", 5000); }, stop: function(divNum) { clearInterval(divs[divNum]); } I did not use jQuery to setup and destroy the event handlers. Is there a better approach (perhaps using more of jQuery) to achieve this?

• Is XSLT worth investing time in and are there any actual alternatives?

  I realize this has been a few other questions on this topic, and people are saying use your language of choice to manipulate the XML etc etc however, not quite fit my question exactly. Firstly, the scope of the project: We want to develop platform independent e-learning, currently, its a bunch of HTML pages but as they grow and develop they become hard to maintain. The idea: Generate up an XML file + Schema, then produce some XSLT files that process the XML into the eLearning modiles. XML to HTML via XSLT. Why: We would like the flexibilty to be able to easy reformat the content (I realize CSS is a viable alternative here) If we decide to alter the pages layout or functionality in anyway, im guessing altering the "shared" XSLT files would be easier than updating the HTML files. So far, we have about 30 modules, with up to 10-30 pages each Depending on some "parameters" we could output drastically different page layouts/structures, above and beyond what CSS can do Now, all this has to be platform independent, and to be able to run "offline" i.e. without a server powering the HTML Negatives I've read so far for XSLT: Overhead? Not exactly sure why...is it the compute power need to convert to HTML? Difficult to learn Better alternatives Now, what I would like to know exactly is: are there actually any viable alternatives for this "offline"? Am I going about it in the correct manner, do you guys have any advice or alternatives. Thanks!

• How to put JFrame into existing JPanel in Java Swing?

  I have an open-source java swing application like this: http://i47.tinypic.com/dff4f7.jpg You can see in the screenshot, there is a JPanel divided into two area, left and right area. The left area has many text links. When I click the SLA Criteria link, it will pop-up the SLA Criteria window. The pop-up window is JFrame object. Now, I'm trying to put the pop-up window into right area of the JPanel, so that means no pop-up window anymore, i.e. when I click the SLA Criteria link, its contents will be displayed at the right area of the JPanel. The existing content of the right area of JPanel will not be used anymore. The example illustration (note: it's made and edited using image editor, this is not the real screenshot of working application) is like this: http://i48.tinypic.com/5vrxaa.jpg So, I would like to know is there a way to put JFrame into JPanel? I'm thinking of using JInternalFrame, is it possible? Or is there another way? • Editting CSS in iframe that sets Select tag's text color to black?

  This is a very specific question for a Google Chrome extension. http://www.meebo.com/mobile/ This page is where you're kicked to when you go to Meebo.com on an iPhone or Droid phone. But if you notice, the Status box where you can set yourself away or what you want your status to be has white text on a white background. In order to get a website to appear in a Google Chrome extension's popup window (the one that drops down when you click the icon next to the address bar) that isn't an included html file in the extension, I need to use an iFrame. I know that there's security measures about Cross-Site stuff like javascript and I'm not surprised I'm having trouble accessing the CSS. But there's a class, status, and it's color is white and I need to change that to black. I've tested it with Chrome's Inspect Element window and if I change that, I'll be fine. I've tried changing the manifest.json file to inject a CSS file using Content-Scripts, but nothing... I'm new to Chrome Extensions but I have experience doing web development.

• JQuery: how to store records id for data from ajax query in dynamicly created html elements

  Probably question title is rather cryptic but I will try to explain myself here so please bare with me :) Let's assume this configuration: server-side is PHP application responding for requests with data (list of items, single item details, etc.) in json format client-side is JQuery application sending ajax request to that PHP app and creating html content corresponding with received data So, for example: client requests "list of all animals with names staring with 'A'", gets the json response from server, and for every "animal" creates some html gizmo like div with animal description or something like that. It doesn't really matter what html element it will be but it has to point exactly to specific record by "containing" id of that record. And here is my dilemma: is it good solution to use "id" property for that? So it would be like: <div id="10" class="animal"> <p> This is animal of very mysterious kind... </p> </div> <div id="11" class="animal"> <p> And this one is very common to our country... </p> </div> where id="10" is of course indication that this is representation of record with id = 10. Or maybe I should store this record id in some custom made tag like <record_id>10</record_id> and leave an "id" strictly for what it was meant to be (css selector)? I need that record id for further stuff like updating database with some user input or deleting some of "animals" or creating new ones or anything that will be needed. All manipulations will be done with JQuery and ajax requests and responses will be visualized also with dynamic creation of html interface. I'm sure that somebody had to deal with that kind of stuff before so I would be grateful for some tips on that topic.

• WPF DataGridRow Template - how to achieve Selected event

  I would like to override the DataGridRow template depending on the datatype of object bound to the grid. If the type is label, it just shows a Label. Otehrwise, it shows the cells. • How should I define a JavaScript 'namespace' to satisfy JSLint?

  I want to be able to package my JavaScript code into a 'namespace' to prevent name clashes with other libraries. Since the declaration of a namespace should be a simple piece of code I don't want to depend on any external libraries to provide me with this functionality. I've found various pieces of advice on how to do this simply but none seem to be free of errors when run through JSLint (using 'The Good Parts' options). As an example, I tried this from Advanced JavaScript (section Namespaces without YUI): "use strict"; if (typeof(MyNamespace) === 'undefined') { MyNamespace = {}; } Running this through JSLint gives the following errors: Problem at line 2 character 12: 'MyNamespace' is not defined. Problem at line 3 character 5: 'MyNamespace' is not defined. Implied global: MyNamespace 2,3 The 'Implied global' error can be fixed by explicitly declaring MyNamespace... "use strict"; if (typeof(MyNamespace) === 'undefined') { var MyNamespace = {}; } ...and the other two errors can be fixed by declaring the variable outside the if block. "use strict"; var MyNamespace; if (typeof(MyNamespace) === 'undefined') { MyNamespace = {}; } So that works, but it seems to me that (since MyNamespace will always be undefined at the point it is checked?) it is equivalent to the much simpler: "use strict"; var MyNamespace = {}; JSLint is content with this but I'm concerned that I've simplified the code to such an extent that it will no longer function correctly as a namespace. Is this final formulation sensible?

  Project: WCF Data service using internally EF4 CTP5 Code-First approach. I configured entities with inheritance (TPH). See previous question on this topic: Previous question about multiple entities- same table The mapping works well, and unit test over EF4 confirms that queries runs smoothly. My entities looks like this: ContactBase (abstract) Customer (inherits from ContactBase), this entity has also several Navigation properties toward other entities Resource (inherits from ContactBase) I have configured a discriminator, so both Customer and Resource map to the same table. Again, everythings works fine on the Ef4 point of view (unit tests all greens!) However, when exposing this DBContext over WCF Data services, I get: - CustomerBases sets exposed (Customers and Resources sets seems hidden, is it by design?) - When I query over Odata on Customers, I get this error: Navigation Properties are not supported on derived entity types. Entity Set 'ContactBases' has a instance of type 'CodeFirstNamespace.Customer', which is an derived entity type and has navigation properties. Please remove all the navigation properties from type 'CodeFirstNamespace.Customer'. • Options for displaying OG groups a node is published for on node page?

  What I want I have several OG groups in which content can be published. I would like to display which OG groups a node has been published for when viewing the node page. Like in "This page is published for: Department A, Department B." The code snipped below shows the data I have in the $node object in node.tpl.php. This data is generated by the OG module. Extracted data from $node ... [og_groups] => Array ( [993] => 993 [2078] => 2078 ) [og_groups_both] => Array ( [993] => Department A [2078] => Department B ) ... I know I could loop through the og_groups_both array in node.tpl.php and generate the output from there, but it feels like a quite dirty solution. The ideal solution would be to have a $og_groups variable in node.tpl.php, similiar to how $submitted is used in node.tpl.php (see below). Example of how $submitted is used <?php if ($submitted): ?> <div class="submitted"><?php print $submitted; ?></div> <?php endif; ?> Should I use hook_load() in a custom module to insert the new variable $og_groups in $node? What options do I have and which solution would you recommend?

• HTML not appearing in Emails

  My website sends out html emails but most of my recipients are receiving them as HTML marked up source pages instead of the nice table layouts. The problem doesn't appear to be an email client issue since the emails display properly in web mail clients like gmail, yahoo, hotmail etc... They also display properly when viewed through outlook or thunderbird that are connected to gmail, yahoo, hotmail etc... However, I have one domain name that I registered with a shared hosting provider called 1and1.com. I tried viewing my emails through their webmail client, thunderbird and outlook, but in all three cases, only the html mark up showed up. Also, I assume most of my recipients use MS Outlook with MS Exchange Server because they are business/finance people. Unfortunately, I don't know how to get an email that's managed by an MS Exchange Server. I made sure I'm sending my emails with the following headers: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 Does anyone know what might be wrong? can anyone recommend a solution?

So I want to know the url to which the previous url redirected. In the above case, the redirected url is copenhagen.craigslist.org Is there any standard way through which I can determine which url the particular url is going to redirect. I know that when a url redirects to other url, the server sends an intermediate response containing a header field that tells the url which it is going to redirect but I am not receiving that intermediate response through the url.openConnection(); method.

• iOS Simulator is black on app execution

  I am running xcode 5.1.1 and have been trying to learn objective C / iOS development. Right now whenever I try to run my code on the emulator (I do not have an actual device atm) it comes up with a black screen. Code can be found here.   Hello, I have a problem with my slideshow script. I have embedding a flash video file into my website with this slideshow called monoslideshow, and everything seems to work perfectly. Trouble is, when I am clicking on another menu button that should jump to another frame, it still keeps playing the video and sound while displaying the new menu data. So I will probably need some code that stops the video instantly, when another menu button is clicked. But how do I write it and where do I put it? • how do i insert html file that have hebrew text and read it back in sql server 2008 using the filest

  hello all, i am new to the filestream option in sql server 2008, but i have already understand how to open this option and how to create a table that allow you to save files. let say my table contains: id,name, filecontent i tried to insert an html file (that has hebrew chars/text in it) to this table. i'm writing in asp.net (c#), using visual studio 2008. but when i tried to read back the content , hebrew char becomes '?'. the actions i took were: 1. i read the file like this: // open the stream reader System.IO.StreamReader aFile = new StreamReader(FileName, System.Text.UTF8Encoding.UTF8); // reads the file to the end stream = aFile.ReadToEnd(); // closes the file aFile.Close(); return stream; // returns the stream i inserted the 'stream' to the filecontent column as binary data. i tried to do a 'select' to this column and the data did return (after i coverted it back to string) but hebrew chars become '?' how do i solve this problem ? what I should pay attention to ? thanks, gadym

• What are Sharepoint(MOSS 2007) Developement/Deployment best practices.

  We are deploying sharepoint MOSS 2007 at our work. I'm trying to come up with a sharepoint development and deployment methodology. We have Dev/QA/Prod environments and I need a way, preferably automated to deploy changes from Dev to QA and from there to prod. We are creating site collections web parts etc. Some of it is done directly within sharepoint, some through Sharepoint designer or visual studio. I'm looking for a way to extract this and deploy it to other enviornments. I tried stsadm backup/restore import/export etc but they all move the data along with it as well. I just need the structure deployed. Content deployment paths and jobs does the same thing as well. We use MSBuild & Curisecontrol.net for other .net projects to automate build/deployment process. I'm looking for something similar with sharepoint if possible. What are your best practices for this? Since my team is learning we don't have a defined process and we are open to change our development process if needed.
