  Lets say I was to develop a small forum script, what types of topics pages would you find most helpful? I'd like to get an idea of what should be added. Viewing popular phpBB forums, they offer "Unanswered Posts", "Active Topics" and "Unread Topics". Obviously I'm already including a page to view your own topics and posts. My other question was, is it a big deal that I'm not tracking whether or not you've read a topic? I already provide the page showing all topics you've participated in... just not ones that you've "viewed". Would this be something forum users would only end up complaining about? I don't like the options available to track topics that are read/not read, that's the only reason I am not considering adding this feature at this stage. Many thanks everyone for any help.

• Delphi's OTA: is there a way to get active configuration while building (D2010)?

  I can ask Delphi to build all configurations at once - by clicking on "Build configurations" and invoking "Make" command: This will build all configurations, one after another. The problem is that we have an IDE expert, which must react on compilation events. We register IOTAIDENotifier80 to hook events. There are BeforeBuild and AfterBuild events - we're interested in those. IOTAProject is passed to each event. The problem is: the active configuration is never changed. I.e. if you have "Debug" configuration selected (maked in bold) - all calls to BeforeBuild/AfterBuild events will return debug configuration profile (even though IDE compiles different profiles one after another). I mean properties of IOTAProject here. I also tried to use IOTAProjectOptionsConfigurations, but its ActiveConfiguration property always return the same "bolded" profile, regardless of current compiled one. The question is: is there a way to get the "real" current profile?

  I have an example database, it contains tables for Movies, People and Credits. The Movie table contains a Title and an Id. The People table contains a Name and an Id. The Credits table relates Movies to the People that worked on those Movies, in a particular role. The table looks like this: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Credits] ( [Id] [int] IDENTITY (1, 1) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, [PersonId] [int] NOT NULL FOREIGN KEY REFERENCES People(Id), [MovieId] [int] NOT NULL FOREIGN KEY REFERENCES Movies(Id), [Role] [char] (1) NULL In this simple example, the [Role] column is a single character, by my convention either 'A' to indicate the person was an actor on that particular movie, or 'D' for director. I'd like to perform a query on a particular person that returns the person's name, plus a list of all the movies the person has worked on, and the roles in those movies. If I were to serialize it to json, it might look like this: { "name" : "Clint Eastwood", "movies" : [ { "title": "Unforgiven", "roles": ["actor", "director"] }, { "title": "Sands of Iwo Jima", "roles": ["director"] }, { "title": "Dirty Harry", "roles": ["actor"] }, ... ] } How can I write a LINQ-to-SQL query that shapes the output like that? • What is better for non-active directory stuff, WMI or ADSI?

  I've used both technologies in C# for some time now and thus far have not been able to figure out which is better (in terms of ease of use). It seems to me that because there is support for Windows 95 in WMI, it's an older technology than ADSI (which I assume was invented along with Active Directory). However, despite the hint that ADSI is "for AD", I've used it for several non-AD things, such as managing IIS and local users. So, for those sort of tasks (managing IIS and local users), which is more practical? WMI or ADSI? Consider also that I'm using C# to implement these technologies, not vbscript. However, this may equally apply to vbscript.

I need to join appearances on both the zone and installations tables. How can I do this?

• Drupal and Login Toboggan -- infinite redirect loop

  I'm getting a redirect loop when using Login Toboggan. It doesn't happen all of the time and I think I've narrowed it down to something with the session, specifically the active-tabs[last-active-href] value. Since it's intermittent, I was able to print out a session of a working copy and a non-working copy. Here are both: WORKS -- Array ( [active-tabs] = Array ( [last-active-href] = index ) ) toboggan/denied DOESN'T WORK -- Array ( [active-tabs] = Array ( [last-active-href] = user/register [user] = user/register ) [wantsEvents] = [wantsResources] = [wantsSupport] = ) toboggan/denied I've also noticed that if I comment out the following line the redirection loop stops (although no page loads): $return = menu_execute_active_handler('user/register'); Any ideas? Clicking on a buddy opens a chat window... this is much like the Facebook chat system. So in Firefox, everything works normally and as expected. I've tried setup to mode in odbc, to configure a system dsn, to completely use the activerecord support for sqlserver but no success at all.   There are a few dashboard widget that are useful even when not going in Dashboard. For example, SVN Notifier sends a Growl notification when commits are made to a repository you want to watch. Or, Delivery Status does the same for status update on tracked packages.   I have a Juniper Netscreen SSG-140. While experimenting with a VoIP service, I defined a custom policy that was to be used to permit the possible ports in use to be sent back to the VoIP server from systems connecting across the internet. Because I'd had problems in the past with VoIP systems getting broken when their UDP sessions were expired out faster than their keep-alives were generated, I set the timeout on this custom service to be 'never'. After much experimentation, I happened to notice that my session count on the firewall has grown from a couple thousand to over 36000. After discussion with the VoIP "expert", I set the timeout to be 30 minutes; however, all the sessions set up during the experimentation process are still there, more than 3 days later. Is there a way I can force these old sessions to get expired and removed from the session table, or am I looking at resetting my firewall? (Both firewalls, actually -- they are in a cluster.)

  Our DC is running Windows Server 2003. I've just set up Windows Server 2008 and have terminal server running on it. When setting the terminal server permissions, it was able to allow a group name that was read from the domain. In the DC the new terminal server shows up as a computer in the domain. I can also log in as a user within the domain even though that user doesn't exist locally on the new server. However, when I go to set sharing permissions on the new machine it doesn't show my domain as a location. Instead it is only looking at location "machinename" and not allowing domain to be seen or added. Is there something I'm missing? Ok, lots of errors in the event log. The issue was that I had changed from DHCP to static and put the wrong DNS server IP in. i.e. firewall instead of DC/DNS server.

• Can I temporarily leave other roles active when converting a 2008 R2 server to a hyper-v host?

  I currently have a Windows 2008 R2 box that I want to convert to a hyper-v host. Currently I have the following running on it: File Services, Web Server (IIS), and Sql Server 2008 R2 with a few different DBs. In the long term, I'd like to move all of those over to the VMs that will be created. However, in the short term I'd like to leave them running on the server. Are there any complications/problems with leaving them running on the hyper-v server for a day or two? How long will those services typically go down during the addition of the hyper-v role? Right now my plan is to back up everything, enable the hyper-v role, set up VMs, and migrate stuff off of the host. However, if there is a good probability that something may cease to function I might need to migrate everything over to a temporary host before doing the conversion.
