• How can test users access an unpublished iOS app?

  I am considering outsourcing the development of an iOS app to various independent developers. I will have have various testers of the app. We all work for separate companies. Some of these testers will be customers, who I would like feedback from. As there are multiple developers involved I expect there to be a new release on a daily basis. How can this be done? Would each of the testers need to buy some sort of license to avoid having to go through the app approval process? Is there any smooth way to do this so that it will not be a hassle for our friendly customers, who are willing to test our app?

One of my friend told me that your websites index is visible and its one step away to access the password file and he shows me that very simply using the Google search. How can i prevent this and i am hosting my site with a hosting company and i report about this to them but they simply replied to me still its secure so you no need to worry... am i really don need to worry and continue my site with the visible index of admin page?

• Windows Server 2008: How to tell if a user is a 'local' use or a 'domain' user

  I'm a developer, not a server admin, so please bear with me! I've been tasked with checking the installation of some software on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine in the cloud, within two scenarios: There is no domain, the software will use local users and groups for authentication There is a domain, the software will use domain users and groups for authentication I've done part 1, but I'm puzzled about part 2. I've just installed the Active Directory Domain Services role on the server, so now I have a domain of one computer. When I look in Active Directory Users and Computers, I see all my original local users and groups. Have they now been 'promoted' to domain users? Or do I not have any domain users yet? Is there a way I can tell the difference between domain users and local users now? Thanks

• Restrict SSH user to connection from one machine

  During set-up of a home server (running Kubuntu 10.04), I created an admin user for performing administrative tasks that may require an unmounted home. This user has a home directory on the root partition of the box. The machine has an internet-facing SSH server, and I have restricted the set of users that can connect via SSH, but I would like to restrict it further by making admin only accessible from my laptop (or perhaps only from the local 192.168.1.0/24 range). I currently have only an AllowGroups ssh-users with myself and admin as members of the ssh-users group. What I want is something that works like you may expect this setup to work (but it doesn't): $ groups jonathan ... ssh-users $ groups admin ... ssh-restricted-users $ cat /etc/ssh/sshd_config ... AllowGroups ssh-users [email protected].* ... Is there a way to do this? I have also tried this, but it did not work (admin could still log in remotely): AllowUsers [email protected].* * AllowGroups ssh-users with admin a member of ssh-users. I would also be fine with only allowing admin to log in with a key, and disallowing password logins, but I could find no general setting for sshd; there is a setting that requires root logins to use a key, but not for general users.

• How can I proxy multiple LDAP servers, and still have grouping of users on the proxy?

  I have 2 problems that I'm hoping to find a common solution to. First, I need to find a way to have multiple LDAP servers (Windows AD's across multiple domains) feed into a single source for authentication. This is also needed to get applications that can't natively talk to more than one LDAP server to work. I've read this can be done with Open LDAP. Are there other solutions? Second, I need to be able to add those users to groups without being able to make any changes to the LDAP servers I'm proxying. Lastly, this all needs to work on Windows Server 2003/2008. I work for a very large organization, and to create multiple groups and have large numbers of users added to, moved between, and removed from them is no small task. This normally requires tons of paperwork and a lot of time. Time is the one thing we don't normally have; dodging the paperwork is just a plus. I have very limited experience in all this, so I'm not even sure what I'm asking will make sense. Atlassian Crowd comes close to what we need, but falls short of having it's own LDAP front end. Can anyone provide any advice or product names? Thanks for any help you can provide.

  One of our goals for the Solaris CIFS Service is to provide seamless Windows interoperability: not just to deliver ubiquitous, multi-protocol file sharing, which is obviously a major part of this project, but to support Windows services at a fundamental level.  It's an ongoing mission and our latest update includes support for Windows remote management. Remote management is extremely important to Windows administrators and one of the mainstay tools is Computer Management. Computer Management is a Windows administration application, actually a collection of Microsoft Management Console (MMC) tools, that can be used to configure, monitor and manage local and remote services and resources.  The MMC is an extensible framework of registered components, known as snap-ins, which allows Computer Management to provide comprehensive management features for both the local system and remote systems on the network. Supported Computer Management features include: Share ManagementSupport for share management is relatively complete.  You can create, delete, list and configure shares.  It's not yet possible to change the maximum allowed or number of users properties but other properties, including the Share Permissions, can be managed via the MMC. Users, Groups and ConnectionsYou can view local SMB users and groups, monitor user connections and see the list of open files. If necessary, you can also disconnect users and/or close files. ServicesYou can view the SMF services running on an OpenSolaris system.  This is a read-only view - we don't support service management (the ability to start or stop) SMF services from Computer Management (yet). To ensure that only the appropriate users have access to administrative operations there are some access restrictions on these remote management features. We're looking into software to facilitate this, but somewhow typing "large file hosting" into Google gives questionable results.. ;) We've come up with the following requirements, and I hope any of you can points us in the direction of a solution that offers this functionality, or is malleable to our needs. Synchronization / revision management is of no concern, it's mostly single large (up to 1+ GB) file uploads & downloads we'll need. We'd like to make the downloads expire & be removed after a certain number of days / downloads, to limit the amount of cleanup we'd have to do. The data files exchanged sometimes hold confidential information, so the URLs generated should be random and not publicly visible. Our users are of the less technically savvy variety, so a simple webform would be best over a desktop client (because we also have to support a mix of operating systems). As for use of the system we'd either like to send out generated random URLs for them to upload their files, or have an easy way manage & expire users. Works on a linux (Ubuntu) server (so nothing .Net-related please) Does anyone know of software that fits the above criteria?   I use Sony Vaio VPCEA23en with graphics card ATI Radeon HD 5145 and have been using Ubuntu 11.10 and recently upgraded to 12.04 beta, however the problem of overheating (60-70) still persists. I have installed the graphics driver properly. Are there some features of Ubuntu that cause this problem? I would have no problem uninstalling them; Or will using a lighter version of Ubuntu (lubuntu) solve this problem? Right now I am using Win7 and would like to switch to Ubuntu ASAP.

• Active Directory: how to be SURE users can change their own passwords?

  Working on some project where a tool we have has to authenticate against AD connecting via LDAPS and perform password changes if required or requested. IN THEORY, the tool does that, and we have seen it work in other projects. IN PRACTICE, against this particular directory, it fails. Been driving me crazy. The particulars of the situation: Windows 2003 AD Defined a "technical user" for the LDAP connection with rights to change users passwords When password change is required - in this case, because pwdLastSet is 0 - the tool uses the technical account to go, bind to the controller and change the user password. If password change is not required but the user request it, then the bind is done with the user account. That last condition is the one that doesnt work. With the technical user the password change is possible, but with the user itself, it isnt. We get an error like this: LDAP access failed: javax.naming.directory.InvalidAttributeValueException: [LDAP: error code 19 - 0000052D: AtrErr: DSID-03190F00, #1: 0: 0000052D: DSID-03190F00, problem 1005 (CONSTRAINT_ATT_TYPE), data 0, Att 9005a (unicodePwd) no idea what DSID-03190F00 means cause it doesnt seem to be anywhere in google :-/ Been looking at several MS documentation pages and frankly, I'm not understanding one bit of it. There is some "control access right" called User-Change-Password that may, or may not, control what objects have the right to change their own password, which may, or may not, have to do with ACE and ACLs... There is GPO. There is maybe the password policy but it is only set to ask for passwords of 6 chars or more... Can anybody explain to me in easy-to-check steps how can I go and tell the AD admin guy (who is as lost as me) what to do to ensure that users in the AD directory (objectClass top,person,organizationalPerson and user) are able to change their own passwords by themselves?   I've had the same password for some sites for years with no regrets. Meanwhile, at work, I find myself being forced to change passwords every two to three months. My thinking is that if a password gets compromised, requiring that I change it several weeks out isn't going to protect me or the network very much. Moreover, I find that by being required to change passwords frequently, I degenerate into a predictable password pattern (e.g., BearsFan111, BearsFan222, ...) which results in easier to remember and easier to guess passwords. Is there a sound argument for requiring that passwords be changed periodically?

• Upgraded users to Win7. Now getting "path not found" when saving files or opening attachments

  We have a Server 2008 AD environment with about 5k users. We just rolled out Windows 7 SP1 (were XP) with great success. However, about once a day we get a few calls that a user opens a file from their Documents (the folder is on the server and redirected), edits it and attempts to save but Win7 reports that the path is not found either because it doesn't exist or no permissions. The only way to fix it is to delete the profile. In addition we get about the same number but different users saying that they cannot open attachments from Outlook 2010 due to no permission. We have to edit the temp Outlook storage path in the registry to fix it (or delete the profile). I think the two issues may be related. What scares us is that we rolled out 1 month ago and had no calls of this nature until about 2 weeks ago. It started off as one or two but seems to be growing. Any ideas? We're going to open a Microsoft ticket but I wanted to seenif anyone else has run into this. Thanks!

• How best to take a users signature online? (UK law orientated) [closed]

  Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but I can't seem to find any of the other SE sites that would fit better (unless there's a law one?) I'm building an application that will replace an existing paper based form, and this form would normally be signed by the person filling it in. Looking around, it's hard to find a good definitive resource to explain what I can and cannot accept as far as a signature goes. It looks like some UK government online forms accept just your name typed into a box, but I've also heard you should back up with an email - so that process would be type name into a box along with providing an email address, send out an email, then make them click a link within the email to finally complete the verification. Involving email seems very long winded and leaves the system open to spam filters blocking emails, forgotten emails that just sit in inbox's etc. So, does anyone have any knowledge in this department? Personally, I'd love to just get them to type their name into a box and be done with it!

• While using an ntfs smb share for mac users, do symbolic links and extended attributes work?

  We have a majority of mac users but we'd rather support their file sharing using a Windows server with an ntfs drive, or at least a Linux server with ext3. We've had trouble, much trouble, utilizing the OS X server software and after the years are now looking to abandon it. What's mostly holding us back is the fact that the mac users very often utilize symbolic links and other special features that exist for an HFS+ partition. The shared locations are mostly primary storage and not just used as an archive storage location. While there is an option to create symbolic links under ntfs, I'm curious if there is anything I need to look out for if I were to move the files over to a new partition that's hosted from a Windows server from the HFS+ partition; in addition, how well creating a symbolic link from a mac might work. I am also worried about windows backup software and if it will ruin these special sym links, and how placing permissions on sub-folders will work. Alternatively I could remotely backup the files using a mac and Bru, nonetheless I still want to get away from mac server for hosting the shares.

• How can I write data to a file that users can't easily edit?

  While working on game saving and loading I figured I could just write all the variable values to a file and then load that file from it's default location anytime. However from the very beginning it sounded like an odd job. I know about serialization and boost, but that seems so complicated, I figured I'd keep it simple, but I've ran across this huge issue: No matter what file I can write with C++, the user can get their hands on it, they can edit their position, they can remove a boss, or add new weapons for themselves. My question here is: How can I create a file in C++ which cannot be editted or openned with a text editor such as Notepad (I'm not trying to make a file which is impossible to open, but a file which will give the user a headache if he tries to edit it through usual methods.)

  Not a major problem, but I would like to understand more about how some websites can serve different pages to a navigating user, such that the browser doesn't visibly pass through a blank white page. Whereas some sites cause the browser to display the white page for up to a few seconds. I can imagine this is partly due to network latency, but are there any other factors?
