• Strange IIS/Asp.net Exception Message

  I have a standard asp.net 2.0 application running on IIS 6. I have noticed some strange exception messages in the logs. They seem to be caused by random spam bots trying to submit forms. They are strange because the request string is huge and all the exception details in the event manager are messed up, they have been replaced with %21,%22, etc.. as seen in the screen shot. Is this some kind of exploit or just a bug in the asp.net exception handler/logger ? UPDATE: I traced the requests that are causing this strange log event to a bug in IE8 that causes it to request scriptresource.axd?d={html from page} as described in these links: MS Connect SO - Invalid Webresource.axd SO - IE8 Dropping Memory Pages I am still not sure why these requests would break the IIS log event like seen above, they are just long strings of jiberish being sent to the server, maybe someone reading this can shed some light on it.

  Hello! I have such situation - I'd like to build timeline control. So I have UserControl and ItemsControl on it (every row represents some person). The ItemsControl contains another ItemsControl as ItemsControl.ItemTemplate - it shows e.g. events for the person arranged by event's date. So it looks as some kind of grid with dates as a column headers and e.g. peoples as row headers. ........................|.2010.01.01.....2010.01.02.....2010.01.03 Adam Smith....|......[some event#1].....[some event#2]...... John Dow.......|...[some event#3].....[some event#4]......... I can have a lot of persons (ItemsControl #1 - 100-200 items) and a lot of events occured by some day (1-10-30 events per person in one day) the problem is that when user scrolls ItemsControl #1/#2 it happened toooo sloooooowwww due to a lot of elements should be rendered in one time (as I have e.g. a bit of text boxes and other elements in description of particular event) Question #1 - how can I improve it? May be somebody knows better way to build such user control? I have to mention that I'm using custom Virtual panel, based on some custom Virtual panel implementation found somewhere in internet... Question #2 - I'd like to make image with help of WriteableBitmap and render data bound control to image and to show image instead of a lot of elements. Problem is that I'm trying to render invisible data bound control (created in code behind) and it has actualWidth/Height equals to zero (so nothing rendered). How can I solve it? • How to see ALT text in Firefox

  I know Mozilla thinks it's a bug that IE shows ALT text even after the image has loaded; while users think it's a bug that Firefox doesn't work exactly like IE. This disagreement is irrelevant to my question: How can I make my Firefox show the ALT tooltip when I hover the mouse over an image? Obviously XKCD is a bit tame without this essential functionality. I've tried the Firefox plugin Popup ALT Attribute but it doesn't work; after restarting the browser and hovering over an image with an ALT text, no tooltip appears. I reproduced this on several computers with several (Windows) OS versions.

• TLS-SRP ciphersuites support in browsers

  i'm doing some research on how browsers support TLS-SRP (RFC5054). I know that TLS-SRP is implemented in GnuTLS, OpenSSL as of release 1.0.1, Apache mod_gnutls, cURL, TLS Lite and SecureBlackbox. I don't find any fresh source of information, only this from 2011: http://sim.ivi.co/2011/07/compare-tls-cipher-suites-for-web.html I'm testing them manually at the moment, but as far as i know nobody seems to support it. My interest is then in understanding if browsers are planning to support these ciphersuites in the future, apart from the current state.   Has anyone been able to get BZR working on a mounted AFT or SMB mounted share? I've tried both (The AFP volume is actually coming off an Xserver.) and neither work. I have BZR 2.0.0 and am running it on a Mac with 10.5. I keep getting an error like this bzr: ERROR: Could not acquire lock "/Volumes/joeserver/Documents/bzr/remote_test/.bzr/checkout/dirstate": [Errno 45] Operation not supported I googled around a bit but only found a fairly stale (2007) bug report on launchad.com (Bug #313625 to be specific.) Any ideas?

• How can I stop Flash from leaving full-screen mode when it loses focus due to a mouse-click in the o

  On a multi-monitor system, if I'm viewing a full-screen video in Flash on one monitor, clicking the mouse on the other monitor causes Flash to leave full-screen mode and revert to normal size. What's the easiest way of preventing this that works on my version of Flash? My system is Flash 10 (10.0.12.36), in Firefox 3.5 on Windows Vista 64, but I think it affects all current versions. This is very annoying behaviour, but unfortunately, according to this bug report response it seem to be a security feature, rather than a bug: We understand that many users would like fullscreen on one monitor and to be able to interact with your OS on another monitor. However, due to security requirements, we require that Flash and Browser must be the current focus of your OS.

• Where are task scheduler event files stored on Windows Server 2008?

  I tried setting up triggers in Task Scheduler Windows Server 2008, but Microsoft needs to fix a bug that I documented on Stack Overflow. So I can't use triggers until they fix this bug. Here's where the XPath is stored for the Task Trigger XML tab (that I can't rely on): C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\ I cannot find where the events (or log files containing the event ids) of each task are stored. Does anyone know where to find these log files? The log name is "Microsoft-Windows-TaskScheduler/Operational".

  I restarted my slave to change configuration settings to skip reverse hostname lookup on connecting and to enable the slow query log. I edited /etc/my.cnf making only these changes, then restarted mysqld with /etc/init.d/mysql restart All appeared to be well but when I connect to msyqld remotely or locally though it connects okay a slight problem is that mysqld crashes whenever you try to issue any kind of statement. • xsl:include fails after upgrading PHP version; is libxml/libxslt version mismatch the issue?

  I'm running Windows XP with the precompiled PHP binaries available from windows.php.net. I upgraded from PHP 5.2.5 to PHP 5.2.16, and now the xsl:includes in some of my stylesheets stopped working. Testing each version in succession, I discovered that it worked up through 5.2.8 and does not work in 5.2.9+. I now get the following three errors for each xsl:include. Warning: XSLTProcessor::importStylesheet() [xsltprocessor.importstylesheet]: I/O warning : failed to load external entity "file%3A/C%3A/path/to/included/stylesheet.xsl" in ... on line 227 Warning: XSLTProcessor::importStylesheet() [xsltprocessor.importstylesheet]: compilation error: file file%3A//C%3A/path/to/included/stylesheet.xsl line 36 element include in ... on line 227 Warning: XSLTProcessor::importStylesheet() [xsltprocessor.importstylesheet]: xsl:include : unable to load file%3A/C%3A/path/to/included/stylesheet.xsl in ... on line 227 I presume this is because it cannot find the specified file. Many of the includes are in the same directory as the stylesheet being transformed and have no directory in the path, i.e. <xsl:include href="fileInSameDir.xsl">. Interestingly, in the first and third errors, it is displaying the file:// protocol with only one slash instead of the correct two. I'm guessing that's the problem. (When I hard-code a full path using "file:/" it fails, but when I hard-code a full path with "file://" it works.) But what could cause that? A bug in libxslt/libxml? But starting with PHP 5.2.9, libxslt was compiled against an older version of libxml than that which was included with PHP. Is this a problem with the distributed binaries or just a coincidence? To test this, I imagine PHP could be built with different versions of libxml/libxslt to see which combinations work or don't. Unfortunately, I'm out of my element in a Windows world, and building PHP on Windows seems over my head. Regrettably, I've been thus far unable to reproduce this problem with an example outside my app, so I'm struggling to narrow it down and can't submit a specific bug. So, do you think it is caused by a version mismatch problem in the distributed binaries? a bug introduced in PHP 5.2.9? a bug introduced in libxml 2.7? something else? I'm stumped.   Im having an weird bug on my MacBook Pro. When I start the machine, the dock have some graphic lag, the same when I open and close windows. The solution is simple, just open the AutoCAD and close it and the bug is gone. The same if I open AutoDesk Maya or other similar 3D program. My question where is not how to fix it, but why it happens. Its like Mavericks on the start thinks: Well you can only use a little memory of the graphic card! But if i open AutoCad, its like: Oh you are opening AutoCad so its better starting boosting the graphic card and giving you more memory. I bet there is something that is forcing Mavericks to think like this. Any help is welcome! =)

  Because of a show-stopping bug in Debian autofs 4, I just upgraded to autofs5. It is not honoring the timeout option in my auto.master file: /var/autofs/removable /etc/auto.removable --timeout=2 I use this map for thumb drives and so on; I don't want a general default timeout of 2 seconds. I did some digging and although the --timeout option worked in autofs 4, and it appears in some examples on the Web, it is not actually sanctioned (or even mentioned) in the documentation for the auto.master file. So I don't feel I can report the problem as a bug. How can I get autofs5 to timeout after 2 seconds only on designated filesystems? Update: I am using a Debian-packaged autofs5, version 5.0.4-3.2.

• High fan speed after return from suspend (on Ubuntu)

  Hi, I've got a HP ProBook 5310m laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 (32 bit). When I return from suspend, the fan speed is usually very high: FDTZ sensor reports "90 °C". Yes, the units are wrong, since FDTZ does not report temperature, but fan speed – that's probably just a small bug in reporting. Interestingly, when I plug or unplug the power cable for a moment, the fan speed returns back to normal. My questions: Where can I report this problem? Is it about ACPI support in the kernel? What is the address of the relevant bug tracker? As a workaround for now, how can I programmatically trigger a behavior equivalent to (un)plugging the power cable. More generally, how can I force ACPI to recalculate fan speed? Ideally, I'm looking for something like echo foo > /proc/bar. Thanks in advance!

• Minimizing windows to tray in xfce

  For XFCE (v. 4.8), I'm searching for possible options to minimize windows to tray (iconify). This means that 1) they're not in the window listing and 2) they're not in the alt+TAB menu and 3) when closed, the window hides (it disappears from window listing but still stays running). "alltray" has some weird GTK-related bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/alltray/+bug/589831; windows hide but unhiding doesn't do anything; they stay in the tray icon until the user undocks them). "trayer" complains that "another systray is already running" and there's no obvious workaround. This question here is to ask about possible minimalistic (as everything in XFCE is) solutions which don't involve manual compiling, and aren't an overkill like cairo-dock is (a rather bloated gnome-style application which creates a new large 'tray' instead of using the existing one).   Is it possible to install a proxy server that will transform passive ftp to active ftp? Details of my problem: I would like to deploy my web sites using Visual Studio's built in publish web site function. The problem is that my web hotel only supports active ftp, and unfortunately Visual Studio 2010 has a bug, so the publish function only works with passive ftp. My idear is to install a tiny local ftp proxy, that is able to transform passive ftp mode to active mode. I would then enter localhost as the publish server in Visual Studio, and the proxy would do the actual uploading of the files to my web hotel. • Java-Eclipse-Spring 3.1 - the fastest way to get familiar with this set

  I, know almost all of you at some point of your life as a programmer get to the point where you know (more or less) different technologies/languages/IDEs and a times come when you want to get things together and start using them once - more efficient and second - more closely to the real life situation where in fact just knowing Java, or some experience with Eclipse doesn't mean nothing, and what makes you a programmer worth something is the ability to work with the combination of 2 or more combinations. Having this in mind here is my question - what do you think is the optimal way of getting into Java+Eclipse+Spring3.1 world. I've read, and I've read a lot. I started writing real code but almost every step is discovering the wheel again and again, wondering how to do thing you know are some what trivial, but you've missed that one article where this topic was discussed and so on. I don't mind for paying for a good tutorial like for example, after a bit of research I decided that instead of losing a lot of time getting the different parts together I'd rather pay for the videos in http://knpuniversity.com/screencast/starting-in-symfony2-tutorial and save myself a lot of time (I hope) and get as fast as possible to writing a real code instead of wondering what do what and so on. But I find it much more difficult to find such sources of info especially when you want something more specific as me and that's the reason to ask this question. I know a lot of you go through the hard way, and I won't give up if I have to do the same, but to be honest I really hope to get post with good tutorials on the subject (paid or not) because in my situation time is literally money. • How to see external libraries code when debugging

  Hello!! First of all... this is my message #1 in this place, so... please be nice with me ;) I just started recently to study Gnome apps/libraries and I found that debuggers are an excellent way to learn, because seeing the code running helps a lot in understanding the structure of the program. But I have a problem. For example, debugging gnome-panel I found a lot of calls to external functions (basically the GTK+ functions), and although pretending to see all the code of all the functions applications like this call would be crazy, there are a lot that will be very interesting to see in action. The problem is that the debugger hasn't the code of those libraries loaded and it can't show it to me —at most it shows the line number where the execution is. I'm using Nemiver and when it tries to enter in an external function it claims because it can't find a file it supposed to be somewhere. For example, trying to enter in gtk_window_set_default_icon_name it tries to load /build/buildd/gtk+2.0-2.16.1/gtk/gtkwindow.c, and calling XSetIOErrorHandler, ../../src/ErrHndlr.c. So now I think that I'm doing something wrong... Why Nevimer are looking for those source files in those places?? My system does not even have the /build/buildd/ folders... and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or I need to install somethig or what. Any suggestion? • XML parsing problem

  I'm having this strange XML parsing problem. I have this XML string I'm trying to parse <?xml version="1.0"?> <response status="success"> <lot>32342</lot> </response> I'm using XPath with Java in order to do this. I'm using the Xpath expression "/response/@status" to find the text "success". However whenever I evaluate this expression I get an empty string. However I am able to successfully parse this string using "/response/@type" <?xml version="1.0"?> <response type="success"> <lot>32342</lot> </response> So why would simply changing the name of the attribute change the return string to nothing? is = new InputSource(testWOcreateStrGood); xPathexpressionSuccess = xPath.compile("/response/@status"); responseStr = xPathexpressionSuccess.evaluate(is); reponseStr is the string I posted earlier with the "status" attribute

• What is good about php/what is php good for?

  I have often seen php bashed around the webs as a loosely typed(loose typing as in a lot of type coercion and/or easy(and perhaps common) to cast object all over not dynamic typing) language without a great compiler/interpreter/vm, with even the standard library using a number of different naming conventions. A lot of people complain about perl but many (including a lot of the complainers) also give it a lot of credit for its regexes and general flexibility and power. Other then legacy code , giant web frameworks that can do tons(drupal,ect.), and easy cheap hosting what is good about php (,also what criticism are unfair, and how is the language evolving to overcome its problems). Why would i want to learn it? why would I want to do an independent project in it? The main thing I have heard is that its php codes simplicity is sometimes easier then the over-engineered complexity you find in certain Java frameworks and applications. I'm not just trolling, i'm genuinly curious what makes php programmers use it. try to convince me to put it on my languages to dabble in and languages to learn more in depth lists.

• Accept and Decline button missing in thunderbird when receiving an invitation

In the pretty little box in the mail (the one which contains all the details), there is no "Accpet" or "Decline" button... • Random BSOD ntoskrnl.exe (Windows 7)

  I get BSOD at random times and have been for a while now on my Windows 7 machine. It is really new, and I already tried wiping the graphic card drivers and installing them again (making sure that they are of course up to date). I get a variety of bug check strings on a few different drivers. The single file that is in all of my BSODs is ntoskrnl.exe Bug Check Strings - SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION - KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED - DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL - SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED - PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA I would rather not resort to getting a completely new PC, as I have already thrown a lot of money on my current one. • ODBC in SSIS 2012

  In August 2011 the SQL Server client team published a blog post entitled Microsoft is Aligning with ODBC for Native Relational Data Access in which they basically said "OLE DB is the past, ODBC is the future. Deal with it.". From that blog post:We encourage you to adopt ODBC in the development of your new and future versions of your application. You don’t need to change your existing applications using OLE DB, as they will continue to be supported on Denali throughout its lifecycle. While this gives you a large window of opportunity for changing your applications before the deprecation goes into effect, you may want to consider migrating those applications to ODBC as a part of your future roadmap.I recently undertook a project using SSIS2012 and heeded that advice by opting to use ODBC Connection Managers rather than OLE DB Connection Managers. Unfortunately my finding was that the ODBC Connection Manager is not yet ready for primetime use in SSIS 2012. The main issue I found was that you can't populate an Object variable with a recordset when using an Execute SQL Task connecting to an ODBC data source; any attempt to do so will result in an error:"Disconnected recordsets are not available from ODBC connections." I have filed a bug on Connect at ODBC Connection Manager does not have same funcitonality as OLE DB. For this reason I strongly recommend that you don't make the move to ODBC Connection Managers in SSIS just yet - best to wait for the next version of SSIS before doing that.I found another couple of issues with the ODBC Connection Manager that are worth keeping in mind:It doesn't recognise System Data Source Names (DSNs), only User DSNs (bug filed at ODBC System DSNs are not available in the ODBC Connection Manager)  UPDATE: According to a comment on that Connect item this may only be a problem on 64bit.In the OLE DB Connection Manager parameter ordinals are 0-based, in the ODBC Connection Manager they are 1-based (oh I just can't wait for the upgrade mess that ensues from this one!!!)You have been warned!@jamiet

Things I tried already: I googled and found a Ubuntu bug with apparmor (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.5/+bug/970366), I changed apparmor from enforce mode to complain mode: sudo apt-get install apparmor-utils sudo aa-complain /usr/sbin/mysqld sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor reload but it didn't help. I still can't start mysql. I also thought the issue may be because the InnoDB logfiles were a different size than mysql was expecting. I removed the innodb log files before restarting using: sudo mv /var/lib/mysql/ib_logfile* /tmp. No luck though. Workaround: I re-installed 12.04, made sure not to touch /etc/mysql/my.cnf in any way. Mysql is working so I can get on with what I need to do. But I will need to edit it at some point - Hopefully I'll have figured out a solution, or this question will have been answered by that point...
