  • What could be causing Windows to randomnly reset the system time to a random time?

    My Windows 7 machine infuriates me. It cannot hold a date. At one point it all worked fine, but now it will decide that it needs to change the system time to a random time and date either in the future or past. There seems to be no correlation or set interval of when it happens. To remedy it I have: Correctly set the time in bios. Replaced the motherboard battery with a new CR2032 (even checked it with a multimeter). Tried disabling automatic internet synchronizing via "Date and Time" dialog. Stopped, restarted, left disabled the Windows Time service. Yet with all of these actions, the time will continue to change. Any ideas?

    I have set my auditd rules to log when the system time is changed However, our servers are VMs and thus have problems with the time drifting out. We needed to solve this issue so we used a VMware tool to regularly synchronize the time.   • Build of expect v5.43 fails with Tcl v8.5.8

    Hi, I'm trying to build "expect" from source v5.43, using Tcl built from source v8.5.8 on Redhat Linux. Tcl built fine, but my attempt to build expect fails. I run configure, then make, which gives me the error: `TCL_REG_BOSONLY' undeclared when compiling exp_inter.c. I did some digging around, and found the TCL_REG_BOSONLY value defined in Tcl file tclInt.h, but there is no #include for that in the exp_inter.c file. My question is, can "expect" be built from source with Tcl version 8.5.8, or does it require an earlier version? Version 5.43 is the latest for "expect" that I can find, and the current Tcl version is 8.5.8, but something doesn't seem compatible between the two. Any help appreciated.

The services/software that will run are (remember, is for personal and testing use only): SAMBA/CIFS SSH Server Apache 2 MySQL 5 Mercurial Repo PHP 5.3 Ruby on Rails OwnCloud Dovecot Webmin Postfix PureFTPd ClamAV The Hardware: Intel Dual Core E2180 2.0 GHz MSI P35 Neo Kinkston 1GB DDR2, 667 MSI Nvidia 7300le PCIe x16 256mb RAM HDD SATA WD Green 2TB x2 (RAID-1 with MDADM RAID Controller) 16 GB USB Pendrive (For server system installation) My idea is to build this system, using the pendrive for the Ubuntu Server software, and packages, and the RAID-1 for gross data storage.   • Ardour won't rewind when jack time master

    Using Ubuntu Studio 12.04, ardour will not rewind when it is set to the jack time master. I've read that this could be due to a jack/ardour version conflict, but I am not sure what the correct combo should be. The same thing happens with "ardour 2.8.14 (built from revision 13065)" and "ardour 2.8.12 (built from revision 10144)". The latter is the default installation with ubuntu studio 12.04 LTS.     player.vx = scroll_speed * dt /* Update positions */ player.x += player.vx player.y += player.vy I have a delta time in miliseconds, and I was wondering how I can use it properly. I tried the above, but that makes the player go fast when the computer is fast, and the player go slow when the computer is slow. The same thing happens with jumping. The player can jump really high when the computer is faster. This is sort of unfair, I think, because. Should I be doing this someway else? Thanks.

Commercial solutions like Deep Freeze offer this feature, and Microsoft once offered it via its Windows Steady State tool for Windows XP and Vista. However, Windows Steady State has been discontinued and doesn’t work with Windows 7. We’ll be using Reboot Restore Rx for this, as it supports both Windows 7 and Windows 8. Steadier State is another solid option, but it only works in Windows 7, and even then only with Windows 7 Enterprise and Ultimate.

  • Cron job fails for any time other than default * * * * *

    On Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot), my cron job run fine if I use the default * * * * * But if I want it to run at 17 hrs or any other time, it never runs. My settings are: 00 17 * * * wget http://www.abc.com/a.php I also tried: 00 17 * * * root wget http://www.abc.com/a.php I also tried specifying the path.   • Disk utility running for a long time

    I had a spare, old external usb hard disk which stopped working long time back due to improper removal of disk. I tried fixing it in windows (when I did not have ubuntu yet), however I couldn't fix it. So I tried formatting the disk and creating a new partition using the disk utility in ubuntu. However it seems to keep running without any indication of the progress or whatsoever. I have no idea what is happening. I have attached a screenshot below to show what I mean. As you can from the screenshot above it seems to be working on it but no indication on the progress or what it is doing. Any attempt to exit it or do any other task like safe removal or format partition leads to the the following dialog box. What should I do? Wait or restart the computer..???

    It’s been half a year since my last post.  My how time flies.  My new years resolution is to post more frequently.  After a short stint at a local company, which shall remain nameless, I’m back at Veracity.  Overall, Veracity Solutions is one of the best companies I’ve worked for, and I’m relieved to be back. So, this year, I’m going to do the following on my blog: Finish the Agile posts I started (IN MAY!!!). Blog about some code for a logging helper to make debug logging easier. Blog some resharper snippets to help with logging. Blog a Unity Container helper to allow you to specify dependency mappings with attributes on interfaces.     Ok so I have created a spiraling animation for a football and I want to be able to run it on 2 sprites at the same time. This is what I have done.     I'm considering developing a space opera game, having already done some game design. Technically, though, I'm coming from a business applications background. Hence I don't really know how I should handle time and duration. Let's state the matter clearly: what if something is bound to happen in 5 hours and on which other events depend. For example the arrival of some space ship in some system where some defense systems are present, hence a fight would start. Should I use some kind of scheduler (like Quartz in my java land) to trigger the corresponding event when due (I plan to use events for communication)? Something else?

  • Installation taking a very long time

    I am installing Ubuntu 14.04(32-bit) on my laptop (Compaq Presario V2000), and after about 7 hours, it is still in Congiguring bcmwl-kernel-source (i386) mode. The messages I read are as follows: ubuntu kernel: [22814.858163] ACPI: \_SB_.PCI0.LPC0.LPC0.ACAD: ACPI_NOTIFY_BUS_CHECK event: unsupported with the numbers in the square brackets increasing. I have had Windows XP professional on this laptop, and I am erasing it. I am not sure if I should turn off the laptop, and start all over again. About 4 years ago I installed Ubuntu on this laptop, and that was very fast. The only problem I encountered was my wireless, and could not make it to work, and switched back to Windows. I appreciate any comments regarding this installation taking such a long time.

Now we got a few questions, hope you can help us. In game play, using 'Surfaceview' only to achieve it. Is it best practice? On 'Surfaceview', a lot of difference button(Menu, pause, game object..etc) is on it, but I don't know how to code it? (actually, i have already done, but...so stupid way. Detect the user touch position (x, y) to identify where they touch[rect(x1,y1,x2,y2).contain(x,y)] Is it right? Teach me how to do if wrong. View / Surfaceview / OpenGL, which is suitable for us?     Access to our computer (not only to the internet) needs to be restricted for the accounts of my kids (7, 8) until they are old enough to manage this by themselves. Until then we need to be able to define the following: the hours of the day when computing is o.k. (e.g. 5 - 9 pm) the days of the week when computing is not o.k. (e.g. mondays to fridays) the amount of time allowed per day (e.g. 2 hours) In 11.10 all of the following that used to do the job don't work any more: Timekpr: for 11.10 not available through the ppa. The installed version from 11.04 does not work in 11.10. Timoutd: command line alternative, but in 11.10 removed from the repositories. Gnome Nanny: Looks great but repeatedly crashes to force restarting X-server. So we can't use or recommed this program at the moment. Are there any other alternatives?

  • Loading files during run time

    I made a content pipeline extension (using this tutorial) in XNA 4.0 game. I altered some aspects, so it serves my need better, but the basic idea still applies. Now I want to go a step further and enable my game to be changed during run time. The file I am loading trough my content pipeline extension is very simple, it only contains decimal numbers, so I want to enable the user to change that file at will and reload it while the game is running (without recompiling as I had to do so far). This file is a very simplified version of level editor, meaning that it contains rows like: 1 1,5 1,78 -3,6 Here, the first number determines the object that will be drawn to the scene, and the other 3 numbers are coordinates where that object will be placed. So, how can I change the file that contains these numbers so that the game loads it and redraws the scene accordingly? Thanks

    I would like to move my website from host A to host B I have uploaded a copy of my site to the new host, while keeping the old copy in place with the old host I will need to update the nameservers to point to the new nameservers. I'll want to change the DNS settings of domain name to point to new host b To avoid down time for the DNS change to propagate through the net, can I add the old nameservers and new nameservers together without causing problems, or must I delete the old nameservers first? What happens to my website when it points to two different nameservers?
