  Hi, i try to create an AEP for my advantage Database. I create a AEP project on VS2008 and i,ve got the dll. I copy de .dll to the folder where is my datadictionnary. I tried to register my dll with regasm but i've always got the warning to give strong name, but i tried a lot of thing and i got this error again. So i tried to install the AEP but i haven't the ProgId required. Someone can help me to create and install an AEP? Thanks Julien

  Hi, I am writing my first wxWidgets application which aims to be cross-platform. The program uses dll file for plugins and in Windows, reads dll resource part for information regarding plugin name, author name etc. I have never used Unix or MacOS (little Linux though) and am wondering whether compiling binary for these other OSes will require changes to the code written for Windows. For instance, is there a DLL equivalent in Unix and MacOS? Are there any provisions of compiling resource strings and files into a such files? Thanks, Sanjeev

• Where are config files for class libraries physically located?

  My guess is that this question will fall under the category of "duh", but, nevertheless, I'm confused. When using config files in, for example, a Windows Forms Application, the config file can be found in C:\Program files\CompanyName\ProductName\Application.exe.config. However, with the class library I'm developing I do not see a "ClassLibrary.dll.config" file in the install folder after installing it (in tandem with another project) from Visual Studio. Even though I do not see the file anywhere, retrieving data from it works correctly. Plus, running the following code from a method within the class library returns the path you would expect: C:\Program files\CompanyName\ProductName\ClassLibrary.dll.config. • VIsual Studio and Ajax Control Toolkit

  In my web application VS 2008 solution, I have the AjaxControlToolkit.dll in my bin directory and a whole set of language directories for it (ar, cs, de,es, fr, he, etc...) I don't remember how the language directories got in there. If I am using other languages via the ACT, do I need these directories? If not, then I don't? When I do a rebuild solution, the dll (AjaxControlToolkit.resources.dll) in these directories disappear. If I need them, what do I need to do to keep them from being deleted during a rebuild?

  Hello all, I am just starting to learn JNI. I have been following a simple example, and I have created a Java app that calls a Hello World method in a native library. I'd like to target Win32 and Linux x86. My library resides in a DLL, and I can call it just fine using LoadLibrary when the DLL is added to the root of my Eclipse project. However, I can't figure out how to get Eclipse to export a runnable JAR that includes the DLL and the .SO file for Linux. So my question is basically; how would you go about creating a project in Eclipse and include several versions of the same native library? Thank you, Martin

• unable to find an entry point named 'interlockedexchange'

  Hi , I built an application in c# vs2005 .net . Everything works fine when i run the application in win 32 bit, But when running the application in win 64 it crashes while trying to call the pinvoke interlockedexchange(which is within the kernel32.dll) function . This is the exception : unable to find an entry point named 'interlockedexchange' I didnt find the interlockedexchange function within the kernel32.dll under system32 directory but it was found under the syswow64 directory(in the kernel32.dll) . I guess that the .net runtime is configured to the system32 directory and not to the syswow64 . How is it possible to change this configuration ? Can you think of any other problem that could cause this? any help would be appreciated! thanks , Miki Amit

I don't want to download this dll from anywhere as I'm not sure if I can trust it. However it also says: "After research on the web I found that I have to create new AxMSTSCLib and MSTSCLib DLLs. So I did" How do I "create" this new AxMSTSCLib ? Other link, doesn't use this dll but run an script instead. http://bytes.com/topic/c-sharp/answers/517024-remote-desktop-connection-c but that code throws Security Exception. So I cannot use it.

• Internationalize HelloWorld program .NET

  I have small test app which has 2 resource files (Resources.resx & Resources.de-DE.resx) with the same exact string names, but one has the strings converted to German. For my form I set the Localize property to ture. In my application I am getting the strings as such: this.Text = Properties.Resources.frmCaption; In my release folder I get a de-DE folder with a dll named International_test.resources.dll. I try to distribute this to a machine which is set to German and all of the strings pulled are still english. I tried keeping the International_test.resources.dll in the de-DE folder or just put in in my apps directory. What am I doing wrong or what do I need to do to get the German resource file to be used?

  What is an example (simple code) of how to zip a folder in C#? Update: I do not see namespace ICSharpCode. I downloaded ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.dll but I do not know where to copy that DLL file. What do I need to do to see this namespace? And do you have link for that MSDN example for compress folder, because I read all MSDN but I couldn't find anything. OK, but I need next information.   I have a project under which various distributed applications are placed; the whole project is under a single dll. Hence, if any issue occurs we need to re-build the whole application to run or import to our server. I am looking for the best possible way to make the build process faster and also bit worried about the size of the DLL. Is it a good way to have separate dll for all the modules or split the application in multiple projects??? Can, anyone suggest the best way or example to deal with this situation.   I have a set of numerical libraries in C++ and I want to call them interactively in a interpretive language like F# or IronPython. So I have two choices now: Compile the library in native DLL and use PInvoke to call functions in it. Compile the C++ library to .Net dll using visual c++ (/clr:pure compile option). The advantage of 1 is that it is very fast, however there are more work in it, e.g. I cannot PInvoke double pointer (e.g. float **), I must write another wrapper in the C++ library to make the interface friendly to .Net. The advantage of 2 is that I don't need to do know Mashaling strings, arrays, etc. However, the .net dll is slower compared to the native one. What others factors should be considered when choosing between the two?

One of the functions of the .dll uses name of the reader as argument. My problem is that I don't know how to get the name. • Unable to load assembly with windows service

  I have created a windows service in C# VS2008 that uses a reference to an external class library to wrote. I have added the reference to it in VS2008. When I run start the service it throws an exception when trying to access the external DLL: Could not load file or assembly 'vcribAPI, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. The DLL is in the same directory as the service.exe file. Is there something special that I need to do for windows services like putting the DLL in another directory?

• MySQL and Matlab

  I want to interact with a MySQL database from Matlab. I found a mysql "library" for matlab here and the same on mathworks. I followed the instructions to compile the library and the compilation seems to be successful. I get a mex32 file at the end. Only, the instructions on the first page refer to a Dll that I need to use (I guess that a Dll was supposed to be generated). I am not familiar with the mex compiler or with compiling external modules for Matlab. Am I missing something trivial? Where is the Dll supposed to be? Thanks.

• WinDbg can't find mfc90 version 9.0.30729.4148 symbols on msdl.microsoft.com

  I think the title states my problem fairly well. Where are those mfc symbols? Some background info: I have a crash dump that I want to analyze in WinDbg. My symbol path contains msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols (and it says h t t p first but I'm a new user here so I'm not allowed to write that twice. The 9.0.30729.4148 version seems to be installed by some Windows update When a dump contains an earlier version of mfc90, it is located by WinDbg on the Microsoft symbol server with the same settings. When I use !sym noisy, the output for mfc90.dll contains: SYMSRV: http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols/mfc90.dll/4A596D4939c000/mfc90.dll not found The same thing happens on two different computers Edit: See my comments below. The symbols are present on the server, but WinDbg can't get them.

• Why isn't WH_MOUSE hook global anymore?

  I have this global mouse hook setup in a DLL that watches for mouse gestures. Everything works perfectly but with a hook set for WH_MOUSE_LL which is a low-level hook and one that doesn't need to be in an external injectable DLL. Once I switch - to the more suitable one would say - WH_MOUSE mouse hook, everything falls apart. Once I click outside my main application (the one that installs the hook), the hook gets corrupted - ::UnhookWindowsHookEx will fail. I only found this guy saying at experts exchange: "No way, at least under Windows XP + SVP2 WH_MOUSE won't go global, you must use WH_MOUSE_LL instead." I setup the hooks correctly: in a DLL using a shared data section, posting and not sending messages from the hook proceduce. Why has this changed? And why is not documented? Anyone encountered this? Thanks! BTW: I've reverse engineered a bit the popular StrokeIt application and it uses a combination of WH_GETMESSAGE and WH_MOUSE hooks and still works on XP/Vista...

• Custom Build Step Paths Between x86 and x64 in Visual Studio

  For reference, I'm using Visual Studio 2010. I have a custom build step defined as follows: if exist "$(TargetDir)"server.dll copy "$(TargetDir)"server.dll "c:\program files (x86)\myapp\server.dll" This works great on my desktop, which is running 64-bit Windows. However, when I build on my laptop, c:\Program Files (x86)\ doesn't exist because it's running 32-bit Windows. I'd like to put in something that will work between both editions of Windows, since the project files are under version control and it's a real pain to change the paths every time I work on my laptop. If this were a *nix environment I'd just create a symlink and be done with it. Any ideas?

• Word Interop compile time error

  I am getting the following error when referencing the assembly Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word in my asp.net application. The type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.ApplicationClass' exists in both 'C:\WINDOWS\assembly\GAC\Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word\11.0.0.0_71e9bce111e9429c\Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.dll' and 'C:\WINDOWS\assembly\GAC\Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word\12.0.0.0_71e9bce111e9429c\Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.dll' Previously, I was getting the error but the 12.0.0.0 was in the PIA directory under Visual Studio, but the error message was the same, except pointing to a different path. Since then, I copied the dll to the GAC, but with the same error. I thought that .Net was supposed to take care of this. Can anyone give me some help? Thanks BTW, I am doing this using Visual Studio .Net 2008

Which technology can I use that now an external program can send data/commands to that dll, to steer the other program, or get data from it ?
