  • Connection manager detects network but won't connect

    I've just installed 12.04 on my home desktop. Because of where it's located, in order not to have my children tripping over cat5 cable, I've got a cheap 802.11n USB device plugged in, which uses a Realtek 8192CU chip. The house wifi is protected with WPA2. Ubuntu's Network Manager detects the network, but connecting to it just times out and asks for the password again. I'm sure I'm using the correct password. No other computers on the house network are having any difficulty. This device previously worked correctly with both Windows 7 and OpenBSD in the same machine. The linux-firmware package is installed (from the disc) at version 1.79, and /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/rtl8192cufw.bin is present. dmesg|grep rtl only shows the "loading firmware" message. I've tried Google, but I apparently can't find the right set of words to plug in, because I haven't found anything related (lots of "doesn't work at all," but nothing matching my circumstances). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How can I connect my HP Photosmart C3100 printer in 10.04 (regression from 9.x)

    My printer was working under 9.x. It is a an HP Photosmart C3100 series. When I open Admin-Printing no local printers are found. I try to add via Other (My local choices are Serial and other). I have tried many url's - ipp://localhost:631/ipp, http://localhost/ipp, localhost, 127.0.0.1, etc... None have worked. Under the networked I have tried JetDirect, using localhost and 127.0.0.1 and port 631. I have tried many options under IPP with different variants in the host trying to verify a printer. No luck .I tried LPD/LPR with localhost and tried the probe. no luck. I tried the cups admin via localhost:631 and that didn't work. On the old version its simply found the local printer, I might have picked the driver, I can't remember but it was the photosmart c3100 series that was working.I just can't get 10.04 to print.

  • Unable to connect to wireless network

    A real newbie here. Just downloaded Ubuntu 12.10, put on USB stick and have booted it on my other PC after modifying the boot sequence to boot from USB before hard drive where Windows XP lives. Have no problems with Windows and my wireless but not with Ubuntu. The PC is a Dell Latitude D630 laptop. According to Windows XP , the wireless card is a Dell Wireless 1490 Dual Band WLAN Mini-Card, my IP address is 192.168.0.193, subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, assigned by DHCP, SSID is HOME , type 802.11 and default gateway is 192.168.0.1. Ok, back to booting from USB and TRY option, I am Editing Network connections, I have created/configured "Wireless connection 1" with SSID of HOME and the only other thing I have changed is on the "Editing IPV4 routes for Wireless connection 1 I have enterred 192.168.0.193 , netmask 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.0.1 Anyways , no go.     i am trying to set up my laptop as an access point for my Android to use WiFi, so i knew that ubuntu sets the network as Ad-Hoc which is not discoverable by android, So i tried the method explained here -which i found on many other websites- but when i run hostapd.conf this error appears : nl80211: Failed to set interface wlan0 into AP mode nl80211 driver initialization failed.     We're running freebsd + jail, and lighttpd + fastcgi + php_cgi. We changed our domain and all of a sudden we are getting SPORADIC connection closes. We recently changed our subdomain from www to shop but really there have been no other major changes. When I modified lighttpd's server.max-read-idle from default 60 to 5 the connection close message comes much more rapidly however it has not corrected the issue.

  • OS X can connect to Windows machine, but can't access shared folders

    I can create new folders on my Windows XP machine, set them to "shared". On my Mac, I pick Finder → Go → Connect to Server → smb://192.168.1.4 → Connect → Name / Password. It even shows me all the names of the newly created shared-folders on my PC, but when I try to actually connect to any of them I get connection failed, there was an error connecting Any idea on what would cause that? The fact that it successfully gets so far—to actually showing me my PC share-names—must mean I have 99% of this working correctly, i.e. the physical connection, the IP address, the user name, the password, etc. Still, I can't seem to access the folders themselves. I've tried this with my Windows XP firewall on/off, and Norton AntiVirus on/off. Same problem. Everything did work fine, 4 months ago. Were there any odd OS X or Windows updates released recently? I always apply them all. smbclient on the Mac does correctly find the XP machine, my XP user name, and accepts my XP password. I get the following from that smbclient command: Doing spnego session setup (blob length=16) server didn't supply a full spnego negprot Got challenge flags: ... Got NTLMSSP flags: ... Got NTLMSP flags: ... Domain=[XPMACHINE] OS=[Windows 5.1] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager] tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_INSUFF_SERVER_RESOURCES I'm not sure why a standard XP box can't "supply a full spnego negprot". Whatever that means. Using XP's RegEdit to change my IRPStackSize from 11... to 13, 15, 20, 22... still gives that "NT_STATUS_INSUFF_SERVER_RESOURCES" error on the Mac.

  • Wireless connects but can not connect to internet

    I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 and I'm having trouble connecting to internet via wifi. Ethernet cable works though. So when I log on it auto logs on to my wifi connection at home but after about a minute or so it gives me a popup: network disabled something about .local domain and something about Avahi network (sorry if you need more on what the popup says I will reboot and look at it again). I am using Atheros wireless card. My laptop is Asus G73SW and on the forum at notebookreview.com G73SW Owner's Lounge people said they had no problem with connecting via wifi from install. Please help me because I would love to keep using this beautiful OS.

    Connecting as either MTP or PTP: neither allows one to see pictures saved as default by phone camera to DCIM folder on external SD card. Similar problems with previous models (e.g. S2) were solvable by 'usb utilities' in wireless & networking settings, but this is no longer present. Other suggestions have mentioned uninstalling various libraries... but I don't wanna just start cutting stuff without knowing it'll help. Any thoughts on how to mount a Samsung Galaxy S3 over USB?

    Possible Duplicate: Pidgin, how to set up facebook I've tried almost all options and used this guide (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pidgin#Facebook_XMPP) to set up Pidgin for my facebook acccount, but it is simply impossible. At the username section I am using my actual username....not the long copied link from facebook...so that cannot be the issue. Is there anyone out there who had had issues of the same type? Thanks

    Where there is VPN to remote server and then access to the database via local network interface, how can one establish a remote link between one's computer (with a programme such as Visual Studio 2010) and SQL Server (e.g. 2008 R2) ? Any attempts to create a direct link to the SQL Server are blocked. Whilst the SQL Server can be configured to allow external access, this provides its own host of problems. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hello all, I have a Reliance broadband + mobile broadband connection. It connects fine, but the only problem is it takes more than 2 -3 mins to get the connection started. If I plug in the USB datacard, the network manager applet dothes not show up the mobile broadband connection immediately. It takes a good 2-3 mins to detect the connection before I can select Reliance connection from the dropdown list. Is there any way of getting a shortcut of that connection on the desktop or on the panel? Thanks, Sayantan

  • Windows 2008 Server can't connect to FTP

    I have Windows 2008 Server R2, and I am trying to install FTP services. My problem is I can't connect from outside, FileZilla complains with: Error: Connection timed out Error: Could not connect to server Here is what I did. With the Server Manager, I've installed the Roles FTP Server, FTP Service and FTP Extensibility. In Internet Information Services version 7.5, I've chosen Add FTP Site, enabled Basic Authentication, Allow a user to connect Read and Write. In FTP Firewall support on the main server, just after start page, I've set Data Channel Port Range to 49100-49250 and set the external IP Address as the one I see from outside. If I click on FTP IPv4 Address and Domain Restrictions, and click on Edit Feature Settings, I see that access for unspecified clients is set to Allow, so I click OK without changing those defaults. In FTP SSL Policy, I've set to Require SSL connection, certificate is self signed. I tried to connect with FileZilla from the same host and it works, however it doesn't work remotely, as I said above. I've enabled pfirewall.log, but apparently nothing gets logged. The server is in Amazon EC2, and on the security group inbound firewall rules, I've set that ports 21 and ports 49100-49250 accepts connections from everywhere. What else should I be checking to solve the problem?

  • How to remotely connect using perfmon?

    Suprised there is not a ton of information on google when i search for this but there is not. Lot of people asking the question but i none of them have any good answers. I have a remote computer running hyper-v (server) running a Windows 7 x64 guest (guest). Occasionally i won't be able to remote desktop to guest. I will then remote to server and see that the guest instance is constantly using about 25% of the cpu. WHen i try to connect directly from server i will get the login screen but as soon as i type the password in it will just stay at the windows 7 login screen but the account names will disappear and it will not log in. It responds to pings though. I don't know how else to diagnose other than trying to run perfmon remotely. It only happens like every 3 weeks and i run it 24/7. So i'm trying to run remote desktop remotely. I tested this out on a local vm i have running under vmware. When i try to connect using perfmon to my local vm i get this error: "when attempting to connect to the remote computer the4 following system error occurred: the network path was not found" I found in another past to start the remote registry service and when i start the service i get this error: "No such interface supported" Anyways, how do i remotely connect to another machine with perfmon or if anyone has a better idea how i can diagnose the problem above then let me know.

    Is there any software available for ubuntu that can emulate Windows Media Center for connecting a computer to an xbox? I tried following the xbox wizard, but it says that I need Windows. I just want to be able to choose to show pictures, play music or video on my tv through my xbox instead of my computer. I can currently do something similar using my Samsung phone and wireless TV using AllShare. I just choose which video I want to play and where and it works like magic. The TV my xbox is connected to though doesn't have wireless so I was hoping to use the xbox for similar functionality. Thanks

  • Cannot connect to MySQL on RDS (Amazon Web Services) from my laptop

    I'm having some trouble connecting to a MySQL 5.1 server on an RDS instance on AWS from my laptop. The detailed description of the problem is here: https://forums.aws.amazon.com/thread.jspa?messageID=323397 In short: I have 2 MySQL servers, both with the same db configuration and firewall (security group) configuration. One of them works fine: I can connect to it from my EC2 instances (ie, from inside the AWS cloud) and from my laptop. The other one doesn't: I can connect from my EC2 instances but not from my laptop. The symptom: a connection attempt from my laptop just hangs, and then times out, as if there was a firewall blocking me (ie, silently dropping my SYN packets). I must say that everything has been working fine for a very long time, and this problem began suddenly, 3 days ago, without any modifications to DB parameters or the security groups. My current analysis of the situation: The firewall (ie, security group) cannot be the problem: both MySQL servers share the same firewall configuration -- I can connect to one of them but not to the other. Later on, I even added a rule to allow inbound connections from 0.0.0.0/0 (ie, I turned off the firewall), and nothing. Oh, I also created a new, fresh security group and changed this instance's SG to the new one (to which I first added my ip address, and then 0.0.0.0/0) but still nothing. The credentials cannot be the problem: I use the same from my laptop and from my EC2 instances -- and the user (which is what Amazon calls master user), in the database, has a host of '%'. MySQL is not blocking my IP due to, say, too many failed connection attemps: I've FLUSH HOSTS on the database, and also I tried to connect using many different source IP addresses, even from all around the world through a VPN proxy service. What could I be missing? I'm asking here because it's been about 36 hours since I've posted on AWS forums but got no answer at all over there... someone here might have a solution!   • Query specific nameserver for a particular domain upon VPN connect

    Some background: I have a work laptop with Ubuntu 9.10 on it. I have a small network at home where I've been running some basic services (for myself/my family) for 10 some years. In my home network there is a nameserver (Fedora) running Bind 9 with two "views". One view is the "outside" view and it provides name resolution (to the Internet at large) for email, a wiki, and a couple of blogs. The "inside" view provides name resolution (to the internal RFC1918 addresses of theses servers) as well as all the inside hosts, network equipment, ...etc. I connect with an openvpn client to my home network from outside (such as work). What I'd like to be able to do is resolve names on my internal network across this VPN (so I get the RFC1918 "inside" responses) without fully changing my resolver to the DNS server at my hose. For example, if I connect to the VPN from work, I can change my resolver (by editing resolv.conf) to the DNS server at my house (across the VPN) and then successfully resolve all of the inside DNS names on my home network. The issue I have with this is that now I'm no longer able to resolve "inside" names provided by my work's DNS servers (because I'm using my home DNS server). Alternatively, I can connect to the VPN and access my home severs via IP addresses directly, but this is inconvenient and causes issues with Apache name-based hosting (among other things). In the end, the effect I'm trying to achieve is as follows: When I connect to the VPN I automatically start sending DNS requests for *.myhomedomain.com to my home nameserver, but any other requests continue to go the the nameserver I was using before (the one I received on my company LAN via DHCP). When I disconnect the VPN, requests for *.myhomedomain.com go back to the local LAN DNS server (e.g. all requests are going there now). I'm looking for suggestion at to how this can be accomplished.

  • How do I find the correct Modeline to connect my computer to my Televsion

    I've been trying to hook up a Ubuntu computer with my Panasonic TH-42PA60A Plasma television for weeks now. My original question was asked here, which includes all the specifications about the Television in detail and how I've connected the computer to the televsion. So far, I've tried hooking up three other computers; 2 Ubuntu computers with fairly new graphic cards, and a Windows XP computer. None of them have been able to display an image on the television. The closest I've come to getting a picture up is with my small laptop running Ubuntu, however the image came out all purple and distorted. I had gotten the image by adding extra modes via the xrandr command, using a process similar to described here. I realize it might be possible to get this working if I had the correct modeline. I've checked the Modeline database, but the Panasonic TH-42PA60A is not listed. How can I find the correct modeline for my television. What commands can I use? I've read that there may be a danger of damaging my TV when doing things like this. What things should I avoid to prevent damaging my television?
