  • Problem graphics with ATI Radeon x1270 (RS690M) on Ubuntu 12.04

    I'm Italian and so I apologize for my English! I'm a beginner to Ubuntu and I tried it on my desktop PC and it's fantastic, fast and fun! I decided to try it on my netbook Packard Bell DOT M/A and this is the configuration: AMD Athlon L110 1.2GHz 2GB of RAM ATI Radeon x1270 (RS690M) 150GB Hard Disk I installed Ubuntu 12.04 with Wubi (dualboot Windows 7 + Ubuntu 12.04), because the netbook does not have a DVD player! During the installation everything is OK, after it was installed I see mistakes in the graphical display! I see objects that are seen in different colors and moving (buttons, mouse pointer, text bar ... etc ...) At one point came not to see anything, such as this screenshot: The drivers are open, that is already installed in Ubuntu. Windows 7 video card runs fine, can run well Aero (transparent window effects), I can watch movies in HD and play some games with the Catalyst drivers from AMD. Now I ask a favor, you can help me solve this problem? Is there a fix for this driver or drivers different on the Internet? Thanks for your attention, good bye!

  • Sending Graphics to the C drive [on hold]

    I'm trying to create image files on the users' desktop. Let's say i have a picture of an orange in my eclipse workspace in the resource folder. When somebody downloads the project, I want to take that image of an orange and put it in a folder called fruit on their desktop. Whenever i export my game it can't read the images anymore which is wierd so I prefer to try this method. Just like minecraft has its' stuff in %Appdata%, I want to put a folder with my images the game uses on the desktop. There isn't any errors, I'm just asking how do i do this.

  • Mint 13 no longer using NVidia card after restart

    Here's the story; I bought a new graphics card, along with other parts, about a week ago. I put them in, install new drivers everything's working fine. Now after a restart I boot into some lovely 1024x768 resolution with only one screen on. I check in the NVidia X Server settings to see if my screen was changed there, there's nothing there except Application profiles and nvidia-settings. I check hardinfo to see if the card is actually recognised; VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK106 [GeForce GTX 660] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) I don't really know much about the graphics end of things so I'm not sure what I should be doing here to fix this, I don't even know what I should be looking FOR even, so any help is much appreciated!   • AMD 6870 Twin Frozr II video adapter issues

    Hardware: AMD 6870 Twin Frozr II (1GB), ASUS 990 chipset Software: Ubuntu 11.10 Built a new PC from scratch, loaded it with Ubuntu 11.10. It's displaying, but with poor resolution, unable to change, as it says no drivers are installed. Ubuntu indicates that there are 2 proprietary drivers available to download: ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX Graphics driver (Post-release update) ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX Graphics driver The first won't even finish downloading. The second downloads and installs, but when I restart the PC as requested it boots up, I see purple in the background, then the video feed just stops with a black screen. I can still hear ubuntu boot up though. It seems like I just need the latest drivers, googled around and not had much luck. I'm pretty new with Ubuntu, but have basic knowledge. Any potentially helpful information would be welcome.

  • Garbled display after Ubuntu upgrade to 2.6.32-2* kernel

    I was running Ubuntu 9 (Karmic Koala) with no problems. I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10 (Lucid Lynx) and cannot use it normally. After I log in, the screen scrambles (a purple/green mess)--impossible to see anything, although I can get out by marking the spot on the screen to click for a restart, so Linux is working behind the scenes. If I start in recovery mode with basic graphics, I have no problems at all (other than limited functionality). If I start the old 2.6.31-22 kernel, I see a bunch of "unmountable" errors in the startup script, but I can use Linux normally with no apparent problems. I'm running an IBM ThinkPad A30 with ATI Mobility graphics. Just to reiterate, the screen looks normal until I log in, at which point it goes bonkers. What do I need to change in order to fix this?

  • Ubuntu 12.04 graphics crashing when GVIM opens TEX files

    I am having a little problem everytime I open GVIM to edit *.TEX files.... the menus die, windows jiggle (maximize and minimize quickly) and I get a 'internal error ' crash report from ubuntu (12.04). It says the problem is at /usr/lib/unity/unity-panel-service. Any tips on how to solve this? It might be related to the Latex package of vim (also I get this message when I open gvim (with or without TEX files) on terminal: (gvim:5915): Gnome-WARNING **: Accessibility: failed to find module 'libgail-gnome' which is needed to make this application accessible (gvim:5915): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: cannot retrieve class for invalid (unclassed) type `' Issue is independant of theme I just checked...   • ATI graphics card, with gnome shell, screen flickers

    After installing gnome shell, without any problem, after log in the fonts are missing and it looks like crap...nothing is readable. Don't want to make it a double post, because my issue is similar to the one from this question but for me the problems have not been solved properly. After running the commands from that post, and installing the latest AMD 11.10 driver, the Gnome shell display issues have been solved. But each time I move the mouse in the upper left corner, to bring up the applications...my entire screen flickers. Without the applications been displayed, everything looks fine. Hardware: ATI HD4870, Intel Q6600.

    Well, I want to learn game development, I've already know a little bit about xna, ogre and DX but, I want to choose one of them and stick with it. I'm not trying to make a "directx vs xna, ogre vs opengl, etc." thread. Some people told me that it's better to learn an engine like Ogre because you can develop games directly and you don't have to worry about the low level details, I know that. Other people told me that it's better to learn a low level api before learning something like Ogre because you will able to understand how it works. Is it valuable to have experience with Ogre or another engine but don't know anything about a low level api? What do you recommend me? Thanks in advance.

    I install Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2, I found out the my graphic driver is "Unknown" and experience is "Standard". Please help me know how to install my graphic driver. as per my laptop specs: Mobile Intel GM965 Express Chipset with integrated 3D graphics, featuring Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100 with up to 358/3845 MB of Intel Dynamic Video Memory Technology 4.0 (8 MB of dedicated system memory, up to 350/3765 MB of shared system memory), supporting Microsoft DirectX 9.     I have a procedural approach to the game loop that runs various classes. it looks like this: continue any in progress animations check for used input apply AI move things resolve events such as collisions draw it all to screen I have seen a lot of posts about how drawing should be running separately as fast as it can, possibly in another thread. My problem is that if the drawing runs as fast as it, can what happens if it tried to draw while I'm still applying the AI or resolving a collision? It could draw the wrong thing on screen. This seems to be a well established idea so there must be an explanation to this problem as I just cant get my head around it. The only solution I have is to update the screen so fast that any errors like that get refreshed before we see them but that sounds hacky. So how does this work / how would you implement it so that they are in sync but running at different speeds?
