  Running openSUSE 11.2 x86_64. Here's what a nmap of my IP provides: PORT STATE SERVICE 23/tcp open telnet 80/tcp open http 2800/tcp open unknown 8008/tcp open http I would like to know How to view What service is causing Port 2800 to be opened? A few search engine results led me to believe that it is supposedly a port opened by a Trojan called "Theef". If it is indeed a Trojan, what can be done to weed it out? Is my desktop's security compromised?

• Cannot create Windows Service for MySQL (Vista)

  I uninstalled MySQL 5.1 from Vista as I lost the username/password, however I forgot to stop the MySQL service before doing so. Now whenever I try to reinstall it I get to the final configuration screen which then fails with the message "Cannot create Windows Service for MySQL Error:0". I've uninstalled MySQL and removed all related files/folders/registry entries but still no joy... Does anyone know a way to resolve this as I can't seem to find a fix online anywhere!

• Android Context.bindService always returns false and ServiceConnection object is never triggered

  I have followed the Local Service example provided by Google, but my Context::bindService(...) always returns false and there is ServiceConnection::onServiceConnected is also never called. I understand that Context::bindService() returns immediately, but my ServiceConnection object is never triggered. I don't know if these apply My activity is running inside a tabHost and I was wondering if that can affect service binding in any way. The Service itself may have a problem, but I can call start service to the same service with the same Intent and it works as expected. Does anyone have experience with this? Please help me out.   I've written a ListActivity for Android 2.1 which is used to display a list of event categories. As the user selects a category, the program calls a web service to retrieve a list of sub-events. For example, a top level event might be "soccer" and when the user selects this the web service would return various soccer associations (e.g. "english", "french", "german", etc.) and display them in a new list. The following code seems to work occasionally, however sometimes the call to the service (in EventsListTask) fails because the serviceBinder is null. Is there anything I need to watch out for when doing this? Am I calling the target intent incorrectly?   Hi, I am new to the Web services scene. I currently have access to a RHEL5 box and i need to deploy a java web service on it. It runs apache and i know this because i have a website hosted on this machine. Now, i want to deploy a web service on to this website to be able to just pass a link to someone when they need to access my web service. Could someone point out a resource or explain what all i need to get the webservice deployed using Tomcat/Apache Axis and Java. I have done this on Windows (hosted on localhost) but couldn't quite figure out things on linux. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Deepak.

• SP1 for MS-Windows Vista won't install because it requires SP1

  A laptop with Windows Vista (32-bit) installed (no viruses or SpyWare; the Sony Root Kit SpyWare was recently removed by MalwareBytes). It doesn't currently have Service Pack 1 installed, and although Windows Updates will download and execute it, the installation fails with an error indicating that Service Pack 1 is required. Has anyone encountered this problem and found a way to resolve it? I've tried rebooting, as well as clearing out the MS-Windows Update temporary download files (while shutting down the Windows Installer service), but the problem persists. Thanks in advance.

• How do I disable Windows Search Indexing Service while on battery on Windows 7?

  Since upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7, I've found laptop battery life is reduced. One issue is that the Windows Search Indexing Service is constantly running, even when on battery power. Using Resource Monitor shows it is often the top consumer of CPU time and top producer of disk activity. I imagine this is one of the primary reasons the battery is getting drained faster. I cannot find any options to tell Windows Search Indexing Service to not index while on battery power. The only solution seems to be to stop the service, and also disable the service (if you just stop it, it will restart itself after a while). Doing this gives me considerably more battery life, but it's a pain because I have to re-enable the service when plugged in again. Is there a better solution?

When running in IIS I can get to the metadata by navigating to the service or by adding service reference in Visual Studio. • ANDROID: inside Service class, executing a method for Toast (or Status Bar notification) from schedu

  I am trying to execute a {public void} method in Service, from scheduled TimerTask which is periodically executing. This TimerTask periodically checks a condition. If it's true, it calls method via {className}.{methodName}; However, as Java requires, the method needs to be {pubic static} method, if I want to use {className} with {.dot} The problem is this method is for notification using Toast(Android pop-up notification) and Status Bar To use these notifications, one must use Context context = getApplicationContext(); But for this to work, the method must not have {static} modifier and resides in Service class. So, basically, I want background Service to evaluate condition from scheduled TimerTask, and execute a method in Service class. Can anyone help me what's the right way to use Service, invoking a method when certain condition is satisfied while looping evaluation? • index help for a MySQL query using greater-than operator and ORDER BY

  I have a table with at least a couple million rows and a schema of all integers that looks roughly like this: start stop first_user_id second_user_id The rows get pulled using the following queries: SELECT * FROM tbl_name WHERE stop >= M AND first_user_id=N AND second_user_id=N ORDER BY start ASC SELECT * FROM tbl_name WHERE stop >= M AND first_user_id=N ORDER BY start ASC I cannot figure out the best indexes to speed up these queries. The problem seems to be the ORDER BY because when I take that out the queries are fast. I've tried all different types of indexes using the standard index format: ALTER TABLE tbl_name ADD INDEX index_name (index_col_1,index_col_2,...) And none of them seem to speed up the queries. Does anyone have any idea what index would work? Also, should I be trying a different type of index? I can't guarantee the uniqueness of each row so I've avoided UNIQUE indexes. Any guidance/help would be appreciated. Thanks!

• Hyper reference links in Latex document starts from the beginning of the page

  Hi, I have a latex document. I am using hyperref, makeidx and glossary packages for my document. Every thing is created fine; table of content (all references works nicely), glossary and index except that page numbers printed in the glossary and index are correct but they point to page numbers starting from the beginning of the document where initial 10 pages are in arabic numbers and then roman numbers from 1 starts. e.g. I have 10 pages for initial front matter (abstract, declaration, table of contents etc etc). After that, mainmatter begins and so does the page numbers in roman from 1. So on this page 1, I have an index entry "hello" Now in the index, it prints "hello 1" which is correct except that when one clicks on 1, then it goes to the right at the beginning of the document rather then numbered page 1. • Slow query with unexpected index scan

  Hello I have this query: SELECT * FROM sample INNER JOIN test ON sample.sample_number = test.sample_number INNER JOIN result ON test.test_number = result.test_number WHERE sampled_date BETWEEN '2010-03-17 09:00' AND '2010-03-17 12:00' the biggest table here is RESULT, contains 11.1M records. The left 2 tables about 1M. this query works slowly (more than 10 minutes) and returns about 800 records. executing plan shows clustered index scan (over it's PRIMARY KEY (result.result_number, which actually doesn't take part in query)) over all 11M records. RESULT.TEST_NUMBER is a clustered primary key. if I change 2010-03-17 09:00 to 2010-03-17 10:00 - i get about 40 records. it executes for 300ms. and plan shows index seek (over result.test_number index) if i replace * in SELECT clause to result.test_number (covered with index) - then all become fast in first case too. this points to hdd IO issues, but doesn't clarifies changing plan. so, any ideas? UPDATE: sampled_date is in table sample and covered by index. other fields from this query: test.sample_number is covered by index and result.test_number too. UPDATE 2: obviously than sql server in any reasons don't want to use index. i did a small experiment: i remove INNER JOIN with result, select all test.test_number and after that do SELECT * FROM RESULT WHERE TEST_NUMBER IN (...) this, of course, works fast. but i cannot get what is the difference and why query optimizer choose such inappropriate way to select data in 1st case.

• Can someone explain ORA-29861 error in plain english and its possible cause?

  I have an application implemented in Grails framework using underlying Hibernate. After it runs for a while, I got an Oracle DB error and resolved it by rebuilding the offending index. I wonder if anyone can propose the possible cause(s) and ways to prevent it from happening.   Hi, I have a database table which is full-text indexed and i use the CONTAINS-function to perform a search-query on it. When I do: SELECT * FROM Plants WHERE CONTAINS(Plants.Description, '"Plant*" AND "one*"'); I get back all correct results matching a description with the words "Plant" and "one". Some plant are named like "Plant 1", "Plant 2" etc. and this is the problem. When i do this, i get no results: SELECT * FROM Plants WHERE CONTAINS(Plants.Description, '"Plant*" AND "1*"'); Anyone know why?

• Createing a new Index in SQL when current records don't meet that index

  Hey all- I'd like to add an index to a table that already contains data. I know that there a few records currently in the table that are not unique with this new index. Clearly, MySQL won't let me add the index until all of them are. I need a query to identify the rows which currently have the same index. I can then delete or modify these rows as necessary. • Typecast to an int in Octave/Matlab

  I need to call the index of a matrix made using the linspace command, and based on somde data taken from an oscilloscope. Because of this, the data inputed is a double. However, I can't really call: Time[V0Found] where V0Found is something like 5.2 however, taking index 5 is close enough, so I need to drop the decimal. I used this equation to drop the decimal: V0FoundDec = V0Found - mod(V0Found,1) Time[V0FoundDec] However, eve though that drops the decimal, octave still complains about it. So, what can I do to typecast it to an int? Thank you.

• What Algorithm will Find New Longtail Keywords for *keyword* in PPC

  I am looking for the algorithm (or combo) that would allow someone to find new longtail PPC search phrases based on say one corekeyword. Eg #1 word word corekeyword eg #2 word corekeyword word Google search tool allows a limited number vertically - mostly of eg#1 (https://adwords.google.com.au/select/KeywordToolExternal) I also know of other PPC apps that allow more volume than google adwords keyword tool, But I want to find other combos that mention the corekeyword & then naturally sort for the highest volume searched. Working example of exact match: corekeyword: copywriter (40,500 searches a month) google will serve up: become a copywriter (480 searches globally/month in english) But if I specifically look up: How to become a copywriter (720 searches a month) This exact longtail keyword phrase has 300 more searches than the 3 word version spat out by google. I want the algorithm to find any other highly search exact longtials like: how to become a copywriter Simply because it was save significant $ finding other longtail keywords after your campaign has been running an made google lots of money. I don't want a concantenation algorithm (I already have one of those), because hypothetically, I don't know what keywords will be that I want to find. Any gurus out there? Becci
