• virt-install error: Host does not support any virtualization options

  Completed CentOS 5.4 perfect install from howtoforge.com (ISPConfig 3). I have ISPConfig 3 deployed with a handful of sites. I installed xen: yum install xen kernel-xen i installed the recommended (linuxtopia.org) virtualization packages and started libvirtd yum install virt-manager libvirt libvirt-python libvirt-python python-virtinst i have damn small linux .iso in /root virt-install --name damnsmall --ram 16 --file=/var/lib/xen/images/damnsmall.img --file-size=1 --vnc --cdrom=/root/current.iso yields the error: ERROR Host does not support any virtualization options i have also tried this from GNOME (virt-manager) and i cant even add a connection. i read somewhere i need to reboot with the xen kernel--i dont think i want to do that--though, not really sure why. i need to keep ISPConfig untouched. • Linux Virtualization Options on EC2

  I need to subdivide EC2 (or perhaps other cloud provider) instances. I know you cannot run a full virtualization stack on another. For instance a Xen guest cannot host a VirtualBox guest. So this means I am left with operating system-level virtualization. EC2 kernels are only publishable by select vendors, so you cannot upload the custom kernels required for OpenVZ or Vserver. For Linux, I think this leaves me with lxc (on Ubuntu 9.10), User Mode Linux, or qemu. I'm having a hard time finding comparisons between them. Performance is a concern, as is the ability to provide SMP to the guests. I would also like to use COW/sparse roots to reduce guest provisioning. My question is, what are the trade-offs between these options?

• Magento MAGMI: Product attributes (custom options) not showing up in import

  When importing a CSV into Magento with the MAGMI importing tool, I am unable to import Custom Options (as in size: smalee/medium/large). The import manages to put in the basic products, but the Custom Options don't transfer accross. By custom options I mean the fields Title, Input Type, Is Required, Sort Order Title, Price, Price Type, SKU, Sort Order Title, Price, Price Type, SKU, Sort Order Title, Price, Price Type, SKU, Sort Order and so on ... Found in the custom options menu... Even using the example CSV from the MAGMI SourceForge Wiki: sku,name,description,price,Size:drop_down:1 T-Shirt1,T-Shirt,A T-Shirt,5.00,Small|Medium|Large T-Shirt2,T-Shirt2,Another T-Shirt,6.00,XS|S|M|L|XL ...it fails to import the attributes. So i'm simply using MAGMI with the supplied example data from SourceForge on a blank magento product list, and it doesn't transfer properly. Can anyone shed any light on what might be wrong? I am using Magento ver. 1.6.1.0 if that changes anything. Thanks.

• Options for a site-specific-browser app

  I would like to have our intranet site accessed through Firefox or Chrome, rather than IE. However we don't want users having access to any other internet sites apart from our intranet, unless they are using IE. I notice that Chrome has what they called 'Hosted Apps' and there is a Firefox spinoff called Prism. Does anyone know whether either of these are suitable? Can you install a Chrome hosted app without giving the user access to other sites through Google Chrome? What about Prism? Are these products stable?

  I'm migrating from an archaic version of Red Hat to Ubuntu 9. When going through my old nfs mount script, I found that it contained the -P option. So my script looks like: sudo mount -t nfs -o -P ... It looks like the -P is one of the -o options. My question is: what does the -P option do? I've searched every man page I can find, with no luck. Could it have to do with privileged ports?

  This question was originally on SO but it was closed since it is considered off topic. I am interested to build a mail service that allows you to incorporate custom logic in the your mail server. For example, user A can reply to [email protected] once and subsequent emails from user A to [email protected] will not go through until certain actions are taken. I am looking for something simple and customizable, preferably open-sourced. I am fluent in most modern languages. What email servers do you guys recommend for this? Mailgun looks promising, but are there any simpler options?

  I'm trying to get my Xen Dom0 distributing the irqs in an smp enviroment. As far as I know there are 2 Options: Use irqbalance Configure the kernel without cpu hotplug support My System is Debian Squeeze, Xen 4.0.4, Kernel 3.2.31. My Problem is: irqbalance segfaults due to a changed /proc/irq* layout or irq0 missing (this seems to be a very old bug existing since Lenny) To configure a kernel without cpu hotplug support you must disable cpu powermanagement which seems to be impossible through the standard wys (make config / make menuconfig) - the option CONFIG_PM simply defaults to "Y". Any idea anyone on how to get a debian dom0 kernel with a proper irq distribution?

  There is an SVN repository (single repository) http://example.net/svn The repository contains several projects (directories): http://example.net/svn/Project1 http://example.net/svn/Project2 User has full access to Project1 directory and has no access neither to root nor to Project2. Everything works fine for a while: user checks out http://example.net/svn/Project1, commits and updates it successfully. But sometimes trying to update leads to the following error: Command: Update Error: Server sent unexpected return value (403 Forbidden) in response to OPTIONS Error: request for 'http://example.net/svn' Finished! Why does TortoiseSVN request something in the root??? I have noticed that this happens after somebody else committed copy or move operation. Checking out http://example.net/svn/Project1 helps till next time... The main question: How to set up access rights for user to avoid these errors? Note, it's not an option to grant user any read or write access right on the root directory for security reasons.

• Getting error: "This webpage is not available" for my chrome app's options page

  My CRX had the proper html page options.html in it, the manifest declares it properly (it shows up as a link on the chrome://extensions page) but when I click that link, Chrome gives the error: This webpage is not available The webpage at chrome-extension://invalid/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. It says "invalid" but the app runs perfectly well (all the content scripts run, the background created a database and saved to it). Why would it show as invalid? Why doesn't it have the extensions' id?   I'm looking to create an SDL Tridion schema with a list of repeatable links while avoiding multiple fields per link. Hyperlink In a rich text field I have the following options for creating a hyperlink:* Component Anchor http:// mailto: Other When content authors create one of these hyperlinks, they have the option to select linked (visible) text as well as title and target attributes that function like typical HTML hyperlinks. "Richtext" means a Text field with Height of the Text Area = at least 2 rows with Allow Rich Text Formatting selected. Single Schema Field Link When creating a single schema field, I see these options: External Link (author options will include http://, mailto, Other) Multimedia Link Component Link (which can allow Multimedia Values) Current Ideas The best out-of-the-box (OOTB) setups I've found for this "list of links" is either offering: a single 2-line RTF with instructions to create a hyperlink (of any type) in that field separate fields for each type as well as additional fields for display name, target, and title (where the fields are assembled through template code), authors fill in only one of the fields (component link or external) Question Is there a way in the schema form designer, by updating the schema source, or through code to offer the same (RTF) hyperlink drop-down options, but in a single field? I could be missing something, but recognize this scenario isn't supported OOTB.

  I have a (elderly) colleague who has forgotten the password to his laptop - he generally signs in as Administrator, but can't remember the password, and has asked my help. He says the laptop contains some important data. What are my options? Thanks for any help. EDIT: I have just got hold of the machine and not all is as I was told... The password is not the problem... Before the login box appears I get an error message relating to savedump.exe: The instruction at "0x0..." referenced memory at "0x0...". The memory could not be written. Then when I login using the proper credentials, It logs me in for a tiny second and then logs me out again and 'saves my settings'. Any ideas on this one?

• TCP Tweaking options and Results: Any suggestions?

  I first tried with the default windows XP TCP option(It doesn't have TCPWindowSize option and TCP1323 in its Registry setting). I dynamically set those options using TCP optimizer. Here I list out the result with and without TCP Tweaking option. I see no major improvements in TCP after increasing window size optimally too. What value should I set to increase the performance?   One person (John) creates an Office document, and prints this document to his HP printer which is using HP Universal Printing PS (v4.7) driver. He has got Job Storage (Personal job) enabled for this printer, with custom username and a personal PIN. He later sends this document in an e-mail to his colleagues. Another person (Anne) opens the document, and tries to print the document to her HP printer (also using HP Universal Printing driver), but is not able to fetch it on the printer. The Job Storage options from Johns computer follows the Office Excel document, so Anne has to change this manually to her username and her PIN before she can print. What on earth is causing this, and how do we fix it?

• jQuery date picker not persistant after AJAX

  So I'm using the jQuery date picker, and it works well. I am using AJAX to go and get some content, obviously when this new content is applied the bind is lost, I learnt about this last week and discovered about the .live() method. But how do I apply that to my date picker? Because this isn't an event therefore .live() won't be able to help... right? This is the code I'm using to bind the date picker to my input: $(".datefield").datepicker({showAnim:'fadeIn',dateFormat:'dd/mm/yy',changeMonth:true,changeYear:true}); I do not want to call this metho everytime my AJAX fires, as I want to keep that as generic as possible.   Having run ./configure --help there is a list of options that can be tweaked in the future build, for example --enable-luajit Enable LuaJit Support --disable-env clearing/setting of ENV vars Though any option can be used with enable and disable prefix, some are presented as --enable-me and other as --disable-me in the help output. Is this supposed to hint me of default values, and if yes, how do I to figure them out? Because either way makes sense to me: luajit is disabled by default and therefore it is presented as --enable-luajit so I can enable it by conveniently copy-pasting it from help output to command line. being listed with --enable in help output indicates that luajit is enabled by default.

• Finding optimal ddrescue command line options where Accuracy > Speed

  I'm read up a bit about this tool and obviously looked at the man pages. The trouble is that ddrescue takes so long I need to get the command right first time.   I need to deploy some file integrity monitoring and intrusion detections software on AWS instances. I really wanted to use OSSEC, however it does not work well in an environment where servers can auto deploy and shut down based on load, because it requires server managed keys to be generated. Including the agent in the AMI will not allow monitoring as soon as it comes up because of that. There are many options out there, and several are listed in other posts on this site, however none that I've seen so far deal with the unique problems inherent in AWS or cloud based deployments in general. Can anyone point me at some products, preferably open source, that we might use to cover those portions of PCI DSS that require this software? Has anyone else achieved this on AWS?

But after reboot it again wants to do a system recovery. Safe mode doesn't work; it still wants to do a system recovery. Putting in the install DVD trying to do a repair actually brings up the very same System Revoery dialog again. Nothing has changed configuration wise. Any ideas?

• Set custom mount point and mount options for USB stick

  Hello, I have an USB stick which contains private stuff like the SSH key. I want to mount this stick to my own home directory with 0700 permissions. Currently I do this with this line in /etc/fstab: LABEL=KAYSTICK /home/k/.kaystick auto rw,user,noauto,umask=077,fmask=177 0 0 This works great but there is one minor problem: In Nautilus (The Gnome file manager) the mount point ".kaystick" is displayed. I guess Nautilus simply scans the /etc/fstab file and displays everything it finds there. This mount point is pretty useless because it can't be clicked when the device is not present and it can't be clicked when the device is present (Because then it is already mounted). I know this is a really minor problem because I could simply ignore it but I'm a perfectionist and so I want to get rid of this useless mount point in Nautilus. Is there another way to customize the mount point and mount options for a specific USB device? Maybe it can be configured in udev? If yes, how?

• PostgreSQL disaster recovery options

  My customer has quite a large (the total "data" folder size is 200G) PostgreSQL database and we are working on a disaster recovery plan. We have identified three different types of disasters so far: hardware outage, too much load and unintentional data loss due to erroneously executed bad migration (like DELETE or ALTER TABLE DROP COLUMN). First two types seem to be easy to mitigate but we can't elaborate a good mitigation plan for the third type. I proposed to use ZFS and frequent (hourly) snapshots but "ZFS" means "OpenIndiana" these days and our Ops engineers do not have much expertise in it, so using OpenIndiana imposes another risk. Colleagues try to convince me that restoring from PostgreSQL PITR backup can be as fast as restoring from a ZFS snapshot but I highly doubt that replaying, say, 50G of archived WALs can be considered "fast". What other options are we missing? Is ZFS an only viable alternative? Can we get a fast Pg DB restore time in the Linux environment?

  Hi all, I have a QDI Superb 4 board and, by default, it supports USB 1.1. However, I want it to support USB 2.0. How can I go about doing this? I know there are PCI expansion cards with USB 2.0 and there are also 3.5" floppy replacement panels with USB 2.0. Will these be supported by the board or will it be downgraded to USB 1.1? If so, are there better options than those already mentioned? Thanks in advance.

  I've just installed Aquamacs on my Mac. I have a .emacs file in my home, which contains all my customizations. Among these, I have a: (custom-set-faces ... ) set of lines, which seems not to be applied automatically. If I select the lines from the .emacs and manually evaluate them, everything works fine. My guess is that these options are overridden in some other place. How can I debug this? Where should I set my custom faces? Thanks guys.

I host it publicly for everyone to use, but I've gotten some requests to allow companies to host the entire application privately on their internal systems. I have no idea what I'm doing - I have no experience with deployment or server stuff. I'm just some person who learned enough JS and PHP to make a tool for my own needs. The application runs with Apache, MySQL, and PHP. What's the best way to package my application to let others run it privately? I'm assuming there's better options than just sending them all the source code. I'd like to find a solution that is: Does not require support to set up (I'm just a single developer without much free time) Easy to configure Easy to update Does there exist some one-size-fits all thing that I can give to someone, they can install it, and bam, now when they go to http://myapplication/ on their intranet, it works? • Slot load DVD burner options for standard desktop case

  I need a new DVD burner (internal) for my father-in-law's computer. He's apparently broken the current one - he forgot to push the tray back in after doing something and hit it with his chair. Given this, I'd like to get him a slot-loading DVD burner, so as to avoid the problem entirely. I need an internal device, and I'll be mounting in a 5 1/4" bay. He doesn't need any super-spec device - as long as it can read/write all the standard formats, it's good. I see a few options at newegg.com, but they all have mixed reviews. Are there any out there that are generally seen as reliable? How does one go about mounting slimline devices in a standard 5 1/4" bay? Is there a standard faceplate kit for that?
